Lying with statistics. We all do it, yet we all hate to be fooled by it. It’s fun to do, yet exasperating. Let’s see what happens when we apply it to the 2014 Dodgers:
- Their final record will be 85-77, good enough for third place and 18 games behind the Giants. The Giants finish the season at an incredible 103-59.
- Adrian Gonzalez leads the Dodgers with 36 HRs and 108 RBIs.
- Yasiel Puig finishes his sophomore season with 28 HRs and 116 RBIs.
- Dee Gordon steals 96 bases and is caught just 12 times.
- Zack Greinke and Dan Haren lead the pitching staff with records of 24-4 and 20-4, respectively.
- Clayton Kershaw is only able to chip in with eight wins on the year.
- Kenley Jansen has 48 saves, but 8 blown saves.
- Brian Wilson finishes with an 0-8 record and 4 blown saves.
- AJ Ellis has eight walks in 58 plate appearances.
Obviously, none of the above is going to happen. That’s why they play the games.
Here’s looking forward to the last three quarters of the season being more successful than the first one quarter.
I thought we needed a new post, so here it is.
But, Kershaw’s win percentage will improve from 48% in his Cy Young year of 2013, to 68% in 2014.
Not to mention…one hanging curveball will have kept him from going undefeated. Man talk about tough breaks!
Tonight’s Lineup
Gordon 2B
Puig RF
Ramirez SS
Gonzalez 1B
Kemp CF
Crawford LF
Turner 3B
Butera C
Beckett P
Still waiting on AJ Ellis’ return.
Ok, why Crawford and not Andre? He’s had two productive, great games in a row. What about Donnie’s saying he plans on going with the hottest hitters? I am shaking my head in wonderment and contemplating why he is still manager.
Allow me to add a few. First quarter, Ned adds one (at least one, maybe more) mediocre bench player (Figgins), which means by year’s end, we should se three more useless PVLs arrive on the scene. First quarter, Ned sends down a great bullpen arm (Rodriguez) for business/options purposes. By year’s end, Ned will send down three more really good players in favor of aging grunts out of options. First quarter, 70% of fans miss 97% of the games on TV (thank you ESPN, Fox1 for what little you have given us). By year’s end, 70% of fans will see diddly squat on TV. And let’s not leave out Donnie. In the first quarter (roughly 40 games) Dodgers have used probably 40 different line-ups (and probably an equal number of batting orders). By year’s end? Get a calculator…and then talk about consistency of player performance, or lack thereof…
Excellent additions!
Between this and Magic’s blunder of a tweet. I’ve had a pretty good laugh this afternoon. I’m sure Magic meant rotation, but still…
Just in case you missed it….
Earvin Magic Johnson @MagicJohnson 11m
Puig blasted a Home Run to lead the Dodgers in 6-5 win over the Marlins last night. Dan Haren has been an excellent addition to the bullpen!
Beautiful…
That explains why he was at the Clipper’s game the other night instead of the Dodgers vs the Gnats.
Magic has a lot of irons in the fire these days doesn’t he. I only became aware of this due his twitter account being linked to the Dodgers.
Play Ball
Let’s Go Dodgers, Let’s Go!!!
.
I’m hoping for a good game from Beckett, good location all night long.
With good energy from the bats tonight.
We never seem to score when he pitches. I’m not happy Dre’s not in there.
Such is true, and such is tru…
0-1…. inning ending DP!
You mean 13DP. don’t you?
My pc overheated again… Give him an earful tru!
A.Gon is slumping.
Hanley too!
This guy Turner is doing a job on us, tonight.
With an ERA of almost 7!
Well we did a job on him too.
Great hit for Hanley.
Also A.Gon, & Matt.
A nice merriy-go-round.
The merry-go-round continues wit CC & Turner.
Beckett did a good job. He deserves a win, if they can get it for him.
Not only is Puig’s mother happy so are we all with his RBI double.
She seems very calm and collected.
That’s how I am when I’m happy.
I hope you are very calm and collected in late October this year!
I hope so too.
And you along with me.
The Giants just lost.
3 1/2 back.
It was a good win last night. I am still concerned when Wright comes into a game. Let’s hope we can complete the sweep tonight.
Woo-Hoo, win streak……
Lately Tru, I am concerned with anyone from our bullpen….
I guess it is a work in progress… They need too start making progress or we are hosed…..
Yep…who would have thought League would be okay and the rest questionable?! 🙂
LOL Go figure… I guess you have to go with the hot hand….. I just wish we had a more dynamic manager capable of making these decisions….
I agree 100%. I keep thinking throughout the games how will Donnie blow this one?!
I won’t say Beckett has been a total surprise. It seems he had several good outings last season become unraveled by a handful of bad pitch locations.
So far this season, he has been outstanding. Props to him.
If you haven’t seen Dodger Digest yet this morning… Take a look at Puig mocking AGon. The underlined caption says “Pure Gold”
http://dodgersdigest.com/2014/05/13/dodgers-7-marlins-1-josh-beckett-is-good-yasiel-puig/
Everyone’s having fun again… ‘Bout dang time!!
I hope the Dodgers know enough about DeSclafani to not have him look like he’s the next coming of the Marlins. I recall on other occasions when teams bring up a rookie to face the Dodgers and the Dodger can’t hit him.
This is a time we really need a sweep so we can counter anything the Giants and Rockies do,
With Mahlolm going for us….it’s up for grabs. You watch, Donnie will put his rest-day lineup out there to boot!
Are you predicting an outfield of Figgins in center, Crawford in leftfield and Van Slyke in rightfield tonight, tru???
Never mind, don’t answer that! I’m off to the liquor store! What brand of Tequila would you like me bring back? 🙂
Pretty close! 🙂
I’m back… You didn’t specify which brand you preferred, so I decided to go with some Cabo Wabo for old time sake’s.
Now it’s up to the Boy’s to show us how we like to party!!
.
I read up a bit on him OBF (just a quick assessment though). It looks like he has a good hard curve, and a fastball in the low 90’s. Coming out of college he had some control issues, that seems to have been corrected some since though. 2 walks per 9 now I think?
If this video is any indication:
It seems he likes to work rather rapidly. That being said and this being his 1st appearance on a grand stage, perhaps patience at the plate will be a virtue. He is going to make mistakes. Capitalizing when he does, while slowing his rhythm down a bit, may force him to maintain composer against the likes of proven MLB players, such as whomever Donnie trots out on the field tonight?
I have a good feeling the momentum stays on our side of the ball field again tonight.
Have a little faith, they did some damage against the last youngster they faced. I forget who it was though?
Randy Wolf exercised an opt-out clause with the D’Backs earlier this afternoon and has a new team just hours later. The Marlins have officially announced the signing of the Wasserman Media Group client to a one-year, Major League deal. Wolf will reportedly slot into Miami’s rotation, though it sounds like he’ll be backing up rookie Anthony DeSclafani in tonight’s game.
AJ is back!
Gordon 2b
Puig rf
Ramirez ss
Gonzalez 1b
Ethier cf
Crawford lf
Turner 3b
Ellis c
Maholm p
No Kemp! I would of put him at third base, put Dre in Crawford’s place and called up Pederson!
I mean he is a 5 tool player, claims he can beat Magic in a game of one on one. Third base ought to be a cinch.
Matt Kemp: Super Utility Man
Hanley is bad enough. Could you imagine the holes we would have on the left side of the infield with Kemp at 3b and Hanley at ss?
I dunno, I’ve seen him field balls with much skill, that roll into the outfield. How hard can it be man, were talking about Matt (freakin’) Kemp. Uribe could become the valued bench bat and keep everything loosey goosey in the dugout. You know maybe fill in once in a while.
Per Eric Stephen
Miguel Olivo optioned to @ABQTopes. Similar to Chone Figgins earlier
I’m trying to figure out what the Dodgers record is since enchanted announced he was going on a month long sabbatical?
.
If the Boy’s win tonight, enchanted will become MVP of the dang blog without even trying.
I may even pen a song in his honor…
The Beav walked out after the May 8th loss to the Giants (first in the series). The Dodgers are 3-2 since then.
Open up a whole new record label…
.
Big E’s Sabbatical Studios
Okay then, maybe I’ll give it some more time.
That record label sounds kind’a wicked though, don’t it!
You’re gonna need some Ozzie Osbourne!
Perfect, crash!
.
I was just envisioning E sitting in his big ole office. Ya know it has one of them fake lagoons in it. Kind’a like the Mirage in Vegas. Anyhow, he’s just sitting in his office under some false palm trees, being fanned by some cute and young Dodger girls. Probably doesn’t even have to pen his own tunes anymore. He just dictates and Beyonce or someone sings into a recorder.
.
Man, I hope this thing works out… That way we can schedule another ITD/OTD tour and go see him. Imagine what his liquor cabinet looks like. Boy! Oh! Boy!
.
Maybe E will have the Rolling Stones or someone fly oldbrooklyn in this time as well.
My introduction to Ozzy; By D4
Ozzy got me in big trouble my freshman year of high school. On the last day of the school year, kids were using black permanent markers writing his name on everything in sight. After a while of observing, I decided to join in on the mayhem. The vice principle busted me and me only. He asked me what Ozzy meant. I said I dunno? I was expelled for the first 3 days of the next school year.
I was like are you kidding me, my punishment is extra summer vacation. Ozzy does rule!
Knowing E, he’ll probably be an instrumental figure in bringing back the old 50’s sound with a modern twist. Sign him an all girl band and name them the Warm Fuzzy’s. Can’t ya’ just see them ladies now, all decked out with their bee-hives and pony tails, wearing them knee high socks, short skirts and comfy cardigans with the Big E stitched on the front.
First things first though… The Boy’s need to keep rolling along and keep on racking up the wins…
Plus, I need to cook some supper.
.
I hope to be back on later. That is if my PC will cooperate. Lately, I have a hard time multi-tasking during the broadcast.
Not to mention hearing Vinny again, brings me back to my youth, sometimes all to far though. I have a tendency to drift off as I did when my parents used to put me in the car as a toddler and drive me to sleep.
Enjoy the game everyone…
Miami won
.
They beat Brooklyn tonight.
Top of 1st….whew!
2nd, not much better…..geez!
Ooops
The Dodgers have there work cut out for them
I’m really glad Beav isn’t here tonight!
Sloppy defense makes the work harder..
Okay Donnie! Kemp doesn’t need two days off, put him in the game, take Crawford out and send him to Flagstaff ahead of the team. I know the team isn’t headed to Flagstaff, but there’s a good chance Crawford doesn’t. Dude looks lost in L.A.!!
This is so typical of Mattingly.
You could see Donnie shaking his head after Crawford made that error. Which begs the question, why does he continue to trot him out there?
Counting the first ball hit to him in the spring until now, including the two almost collisions with Hanley and Kemp. He has had a brain freeze at least 5 times. We haven’t even played a third of the season yet!
Not to mention, he plays despite 4 other guys that are better than him. 5 counting the youngster in AAA!
I know…even Vinny said poor play.
Donnie doesn’t want him pouting. He’d rather piss off Andre!
I think Donnie is a speed freak! Crawford reminds him of the old black beauty’s.
he reminds me of Juanpy!
You’re giving him to much credit, I think tru. He makes Juanpy look like Willie Crawford!
🙂
Reed Johnson must love to hit against us.
Awe heck Donnie, take everyone out except Crawford, Maholm and Butera. We can try and trick the Marlins into thinking it’s a game of over the line.
I would love to see Puig pitch tonight.
Me two, and three. I seem to have an evil twin today!
We have 9 guys on the field and the Marlins are playing over the wall. Let’s rest 6 of them and play over the line.
It’s not a good thing when the team implodes so early in the game. Gonna find something other than the NBA to watch tonight.
There’s bound to be some old re-runs of Leave it to Beaver, or I Love Lucy on spark. Or, my favorite, Bonanza… Bumdidy, bumdidy, bum, bum. Gee Paw! Little Joe is gonna run for Mayor of Dodge City. Just so he can rename the place something called DodgerTown!
Puig 14 game hitting streak. Well at least that wasn’t stop.
Scully doesn’t know it, but I’m keeping score.
I have never kept score of a game…which has me thinking. I need to purchase a book. It also has me wondering if DodgerEric, is using his time these days doing the same.
. Oh, Yeah… you deserve another AttaBoy! Oldbrooklynfan!
Best way to stomach this team sometimes is to watch the Kings run in the Stanley Cups and thank the Time/Warner and the Guggenheims for not televising this trash.
Crawford ties Andre in homers with 2.
Terrific outing for Butera.
This was the highlight of the evening…Butera displayed a nice sinker/curve and hit 90+ on the gun.
It was just one of those games when you get beat by a lot of runs and you only score a few but all in all it was just another loss.
4 1/2 games back.
Enchanted is right…this team may still be horrible a month from now!
If he is right, and, I’m beginning to believe he is, Mattingly will be out the door….contract or not. So, I see it as a silver lining. However, I also think Dre will be traded (much more value than CC) and that is a dark cloud for me, even though it will be great for him.
Ned claims he has no intention of trading one of his outfielders. That at some point one of them will become injured or just flat out fail to produce? He also claims that if such is not the case, having 4 outfielders, all producing, isn’t a problem.
.
According to an L.A.Times write-up.
I understand the sentiment that if Mattingly can’t get these guys to produce, he should be replaced. I’m still behind winning the whole enchilada though. Even as y’all say, despite Donnie!
And yes, I think Dre is the better player.
Hats off to the kid who faced us last night though… He kept fooling one of the games best hitters in AGon with the hard curve/slider, which most of the time dropped out of the strike zone.
The team need not worry about the Giants, Rockies or anyone else in the division. Akin to a golfer who fails to look at the scoreboard, and concentrates on the course ahead down the homestretch. Just worry about your game, against the days opponent. These guys have enough of a challenge in doing just that.
Likewise, don’t go off on “let’s pee in their pool”. Just win the games, one game at a time.
I think that’s easier said than done. I thinks it’s in ours and the team’s nature to keep a daily watch on the other teams.
BUT if you can keep your eyes off what the other teams are doing you’re a better man than I. It’s what they call tunnel vision or what you only see if you look down a pipe and not see outside it. or only see what’s in front of you and not what’s on the sides.
Tough but if you can do it, good for you.
Obf, to be honest, I only pay attention to our team. I couldn’t tell you where any of the other ball clubs currently place in the standings. And could probably only name a few of they’re players.
I do research teams and players from time to time. Although, I have somehow trained myself to forget things easily these days. This doesn’t just apply to the game of baseball unfortunately.
Just as an example, I’ve been celebrating my 50th birthday for years… I hope to celebrate it soon, when and if, (God Willing), it actually happens..
When we all look at the standings in September the Dodgers will be a playoff team–wild card or what have you. But honestly, I am not very interested in this bunch. Part of it is the TV nightmare, and part of it is the malaise of this team. I applaud the die-hards like oldbrooklyn and D4–I used to be like you, many Neds and Mattinglys ago–and I’d like to muster up the passion. But I can’t. The Dodgers I fell in love with in 1969 had ownership that kept prices down, the PA volume down, and the hype down. The O’Malleys created a nice getaway from reality. McCourt and Guggenheim was/are business-first entities that seem to forget that, at the end of the day, beyond all the sparkling do-dads, this is a kid’s game. Something is broken in Dodgerland. Maybe all pro sports are broken. Probably.
I have the same feeling towards the business part of the game. What amazes me is no matter how dysfunctional the leagues, the players and MLB, treat the fans (there’s too many things to describe them all), use the strike years as one example. The fans just forget and forgive and then continue to allow said business to go on as usual.
Any business in the world would be ecstatic to have such control over their customers.
The other thing that has me thinking…about the tv deal and what you describe above. Is just how far apart were the bids for the rights to broadcast the next 25, or so years of Dodger baseball? How much money is really keeping the loyal customers from the cherished likes of Vinny and the Boy’s in Blue. Are we talking 7 bone steak money, or prime-rib dollars. I mean, if Vinny has been hi-jacked, so to speak, for what amounts to 7 bone steak. That is just bad business in my opinion. And my assumption’s tend to lean towards the tougher cut to chew.
My point is that, foresight and wisdom may have been able to choose a plan that better suited the cherished and loyal followers of your/our beloved Dodgers.
I must admit, it disheartens me, and take the moment to humbly apologize to have used Vinny and the Boy’s in Blue, in my analogy of the situation at hand.
I wonder if those who employ the above mentioned treasures…feel the same way?
I thank you kahli, for the acknowledgement of my passion for the team. But, when it comes to preservation. Oldbrooklynfan stands alone in a league…most of us can only hope to achieve.
And that…earns him another AttaBoy!
Nicely stated Kahli… And, it echoes my sentiments. I can’t really get psyched about this team. And, a big part of that is the ownership and management… I can get behind the players, but, I cannot get behind what the Guggs are doing with the TV thing.. I cannot get behind a team that employs an imbecile for a GM and a moron for a manager.. I did not subscribe to MLB audio/TV this year because I am not into this current team. Starting at the top…..
I think we should create a perseverance award…
At the end of each series, the Dodger player who overcomes the most adversity, will be given the distinction of being the holder of the Oldbrooklynfan AttaBoy Award.
The honor of choosing the series.. award recipient, will come from the heart of oldbrooklynfan himself.
It’s clearly his call. That is if he is willing to do so?
No, that would be too much for me to do, I’d rather keep doing what I’m doing. It’s enough to just follow the team during the games.
Thanks anyway.
No worries, oldbrooklynfan… I wouldn’t want to do anything that your not comfortable with, or disrupt the enjoyment you receive through the games.
I second the motion, D4!!!
I agree also.
My next suggestion is…perhaps someone with some photoshop skills, design the award. Maybe dig up a photo of Oldbrooklynfan finally being reunited with the Dodgers in L.A.! Maybe the shot of him on the hill at Dodger Stadium or anything along those lines?
Perhaps a short detail about adversity, perseverance and Oldbrooklynfan ..
This is not my forte, so a little help would be appreciated.
Our long lost friend, DodgerEric would be perfect for this detail.
Although, I am sure there are many others with equal skills, it just seemed like something DodgerEric would enjoy doing? And that it would be nice to hear from him again!
We can put the winner and the award on the next series post. (akin to the old MLB Top 100 thing)
And of course, discussion about who deserves the series award. If any? Would always be welcomed.
That leaves me out …. I have no photoshop skills 🙂 I think last nights award should go to Vinny ….. he had to endure that fiasco and keep us willing to watch with his remarkable skills.
He did keep me in the game… or tuned into the game. Vinny was magnificent last night, I agree.
Butera, was the highlight for me… that change up, followed by the 95 mile an hour fastball to end the game, brought a chuckle from the dugout and Vinny too.
So…we have co-atta boys 🙂
Works for me 🙂
Charles just keeps plugging along…
Why not? He seems to be having fun!
Humm, 5 games back. I guess how far out that is all depends on how the Dodgers fare. If they stay inconsistent it may take a long time to make up the ground unless both the Giants and the D-backs collapse. So now the Dodgers have to go on a winning streak of some length to get back in it.
It looks like a rough road ahead.
Eight HR for Puig.
We need more runs….a lot more runs!
A little better.
Niice clutch hits by A,J, and Greinke.
Wow…SVS too!
SVS 4th HR.
My computer is running very slow,, so I’ll do the best I can.
Rockies won.
A 7 run lead.
A.Gon hasn’t been hitting.
Let’s go Beard.
Puig is just a triple sort of going for the cycle tonight.
Sort means short
Use the edit to correct your post.
The win is big.
Finally…a good game!
The Marlins beat the Giants 7-5
Kings crush Ducks!! Kings are a gritty, tough bunch. So I got to thinking, which Dodgers are hard-nosed, won’t-take-losing kind of guys. I got Kershaw, Greinke, Beard, Puig. Kemp is close………..
Dee-termined to succeed… I’d say our second baseman is making a good case.
Big win last night as they all are at this time. It’ll either mean we gain on the Giants and the Rockies or we keep pace with them. I hope the Dodgers don’t have trouble figuring out this rookie, Chase Anderson tonight, like they had with Anthony DeSclafani last Wednesday. They always seem to have some trouble with new pitchers.
I’m going to Junior’s Restaurant today. They are planning to take it down temporally to build a a skyscraper. Junior’s is famous for it’s cheesecake and also for displaying Brooklyn Dodger photographs on the wall. I just hope they put the pictures back up when it returns.
.
Well Junior’s is still open and no one of the workers I spoke to knew if and when it will close. I had meatloaf, mash potatoes and corn on cob. Their oringinal cheese cake a la mode (vanilla ice cream) for desert..
(718) 852 5257.
This must be the place you speak of? Aye, oldbrooklynfan!
http://www.juniorscheesecake.com/juniors_cheesecake/Juniors_Cheesecake_Home/About_Us.php
I’m on a diet at the moment, but I did peak at the menu. It looks darn good!!
Yes that’s the place.
Did you know that QVC (shopping channel) sells Junior’s cheesecake? A bit expensive, but definitely worth it!
The link had an option to order over the web… I don’t know if that means anywhere? But, if I had mad money! I’d be able to answer that question. I have a cheat meal from time to time.
Not a good inning for Kershaw.
May 14th deja vu?
Well, isn’t this fun tonight?!!!
The Dodgers better get started before this game gets out of hand…(lol)
Tony LaRusso was hired today by the D-backs as Chiel baseball officer, Now the D-backs must think they’re the Cardinals
9-5 on CC smash.
Andre comes through 9-7.
I was called away from the game, to help a family member. We were just starting the second inning…How did Kershaw give up all the runs? How did we get most of them back? I may have to re-watch this one later.
If you can re-watch it, do so. There’s to much to explain.
I can once the game is over…I want to take a look at Kershaw, for sure.
Dumb-ass Donnie lets him throw to Goldie!!!!
Withrow tried to throw it right past Goldy. Right over the plate. He hit it.
That pitch was a mistake…A.J was set up low and outside. Withrow’s pitch…Very top of the zone and over the heart of the plate.
We don’t have a decent bullpen.
Rally Time!!!!
.
Let;s CRASH this party!!
Tryouts are starting…I hope Butera comes in and shuts them down. He can be the new set-up man. You know, when the beard isn’t throwing his knuckleball.
Crash says, yeah let’s crash the party! Need base runners and lots of ’em!
Vinny wins the “AttaBoy Award” again! Any objections?
It’s Butera time.
These games just keep getting uglier.
The Giants and Rockies also lost so we remain 4 games out.
Ned has to be texting like a mad man… I’ll trade you a pitcher and a catcher (to be named later), and two utilitymen (you name them), and a guy that can hit, and almost catch and throw. A bullpen guy not named Withrow, or my closer, what’s his name?
No can’t trade Either, he has a bobblehead doll.
I need a starting pitcher…The Magic Man (My big boss), wants Haren in the bullpen.
The Big boss has a bobblehead too. That’s one of the reasons we’re collecting them.
Ned’s shaking his head like a bobblehead now. While he text’s, Come on whose got a bobblehead they can get rid of???
Seriously the bullpen has shown us better days. We’ve always had a strong bullpen but at the moment it’s one of our weak spots. this has to be straightened out or the Dodgers won’t go anywhere.
Yes, it does.
The D-Backs got to Kershaw, too though. I’ll give them some credit. They were dialed in, and they hit well last season.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-tv-20140518-story.html
I gotta say I’m guilty. Dodgers are fading in my life right now. When I was in high school, Vinny did the radio broadcasts every night, seven innings, he and Doggett; I listened to every game for decades. And, even sweeter, going to games and listening to Vinny on my transistor. Now, with no TV and little Vinny, what’s to miss?
Only counts as one, as Alston said after a major ass kicking in Cincinnati.
*
Pretty disgusting having a catcher pitch this often. This is why I no longer travel to the games. It’s expensive and chances are you are not going to see a major league effort. Maybe this will turn around, but I do not see why anyone would go to a Dodger game the first two months of the season.
In this day and age I don’t see why anybody would want to line the pockets of this Guggenheim group. I hold them individually responsible for the lack of televised games, and in many respects they’re far worse than the McCourts ever were. Of course, the McCourts are not gone, only hidden, through their collusion to get the franchise to the Guggenheims. The major blame, of course, goes to Bud Selig who’s been a f”ing wimp through his whole tenure.
Yes sometimes it gets to feel like somewhat of a grind when the team is struggling but it’s a part of our lives and when you got a lot of time on your hands it takes up a lot of it.
I follow the team the same way in good times and bad . They’ll go through good times, bad times and in between times but I keep up with them no matter what.
I’ll be at City Field from Tuesday to Thursday this week and win, lose or draw I’ll find a way to enjoy myself.
oldbrooklyn-I do admire the way you hung in there with the Dodgers, even after deserting you for LA. At one time I was also a big Rams fan, but gave them up once they left for Missouri. My interest in them just went away.
I wish I could say the same thing.
Although Hanley’s only hitting .254 that’s his 6th HR.
A.Gon’s 10th
A rough game but at least we’re still in it.
Eric Chavez didn’t even start this game.
It keeps getting worse.
Actually IMO Haren didn’t do that bad. Except for a few bad pitches.
Maybe they should keep League in there until he screws up.
It’s up to Andre
Almost.
This is it.
Another day that’s not ours.
Phooey!
Yawn…and our manager has this team a robust one game better than break-even ball as we approach June. Very nice.
There sure aren’t many things about this season that are pleasant to watch. Donnie and Wallach seem to be no different than Donnie and Hillman. The bullpen is horrendous, everyone has struggled. Donnie’s uninspiring style of play has now trickled over to the front end of the pitching staff, somewhat. Kershaw was down for a while and his arm may need some tuning, Ryu was down and who knows what shape his delivery is in? Haren made costly mistakes…Ma’whom is dangling by a thread! The minor league prospects don’t show much promise for relief soon. And it’s only June…injuries are still on the horizon, which will make it even harder to climb out of whatever hole they eventually finish digging…and yes, they are still digging.
I know hindsight is 20/20, but with Gordon’s ability to bunt for a base hit these days…And the right side of the infield playing deep (or not), in a tight game needing runs to stay alive. Why not execute this option to get to what may be…the games best offensive player in Puig. Who can change it with the swing of his bat?
Get used to it Dodger faithful… This team is flawed from the front office on down to the field…
The bullpen sucks, the bench sucks, the defense sucks, and the offense sucks…
Not exactly a winning formula…. And we thought the Guggs and Kasten knew what they were doing…
I’m waiting for their grand plan to come to fruition….. ….. ….. Yep, still waiting……. ……….. Geez!!! What a bunch of morons….
I can see it coming now… The Dodgers will fire the hitting coach or the bench coach.. And maybe a base coach or two… But, they will once again miss the point… You need to fire Nedcompoop and Dildon…. They both suck and we will not win a WS with them on board… This team needs to go in another direction… Unfortunately, this probably means the ownership as well….
I think Donnie will be fired…no Puig to save his ass this time! There are rumblings that the players really do not like him.
🙂 LOL!! Yep Tru, there is no Puig coming along to save Dildon this time… We suck right now and if we continue to suck, the consolation I can take is that maybe Dildon and Nedcompoop will be shown the door. It should have happened 3 years ago…
Yes, it should have happened.
The Dodgers are coming to my town tomorrow and my buddy’s TBW, Ron Fansince 53 & 85 along with a party of Mets fans will join me at Citi field for the 3 game series. I hope our presence brings some very badly needed luck to the Dodgers.
Alex Guerrero needs to be on this club. He’s raking. I know he’s learning a new position…but in effect, so is Gordon. Maybe even the kid shortstop, as well. This defense is abominable. Figgins alone should get Ned fired…oh hell, this whole bench and bullpen should get Ned fired. His philosophy of waiting two months to “find out what you need,” is laughable. What other GM touts that kind of nonsense? And what made management think Mattingly was going to morph into a managerial powerhouse after all these mediocre years? Because he whined and pouted about being a lame duck? That passion play should have told Kasten everything he needed to know about the Donnie’s grit and leadership. Pardon my living in the past, but Lasorda and Campanis would have this team steamrolling by now. I know I sound like sour grapes because the team is scuffling along…but nothing is changing year to year under Ned and Donnie.
Seems like little has changed for the Dodgers and the fans. The talent seems to be there but the results on the field don’t measure up to the talent. There is still plenty of time for this team to make a move and hopefully that will happen.
lbirk, I always consider you the calming voice of patience. But I’m curious. If you had your druthers, would Mattingly be your manager? I have no agenda here…just respect your opinion.
And on a more exasperating note:

I wonder if the merger of AT&T and Directv will make a deal possible? Maybe, that was a sticking point for a while.
I would not pay to watch this current team… They suck….
🙂 Yes, they do stink right now.
Well as much as the Dodgers suck and I doubt if any changes will be made, I’ll be out there in person tonight to watch my beloved bums take on my home town Mets. It will be good to be out there win or lose but a lot better if we win. I’ll be wearing my Dodger road jersey and a baseball to be autographed. I’ll be back there tomorrow and Thursday hoping we can win a few.
