Dodger fans will be out in force at Pac Bell Park. I’m hoping for two games out of the three.

CC is still nursing his sore hammy. So, here is the lineup for tonight:
Hairston, LF
Punto, 2B
Matty, CF
Agon, 1B
Hanley, SS
Dre, RF
A.J., C
Cruz, 3B
Kersh, P
I hope they give Kersh enough runs for the win.
GO DODGERS!
Ted Lilly to DL….Matt Magill recalled to pitch Saturday. Praise the Lord!
Just a thought on the non existant running game we were talking about earlier. I am gonna guess that if you want to run more, especially with a guru like Lopes, and Wills in the organization. You don’t do it by loading up on players who were born in the 1970’s.
Wild Childs of Neds 70’s
Uribe – (79)
Punto – (77)
Hairston – (76)
M. Ellis – (77)
R. Hernandez -(76)
Schumaker misses this group by about 44 days – (Feb 3 – 80)
.
Early 80’s that can’t exactly run like crazy
Ethier – (82)
Gonzalez – (82)
A.J Ellis – (81)
Speedsters with previous bouts of hamstring problems
Kemp – (84)
Crawford – (81)
Youngsters who rarely get on base
Cruz – (84)
Sellers – (86)
Everyone else
Ramirez – (83)
My math is good …although ,I have somehow ruined my short term memory?? Schumaker misses the 70’s group by 34 days…
Great analysis, Dodger4life!
Update: The everyone else category is no longer valid…Hanley looks to be joining the speedsters with hammy problems category.
Just another observation on youth in todays game…
When it comes to position players, the team we face tonight has a much younger group of guys than what Ned continues to assemble…
http://giants.mlb.com/team/roster_active.jsp?c_id=sf
Crap…Adrian scratched from lineup.
….so, Hairston moves to 1st and Schu will play left. Poor Kersh..unless Matt, Hanley & Dre step it up!
I’m going to ask somebody like OBF to help me out here with my memory. I can’t remember any period of time that guys like Furillo, Snider, Pafko, Billy Cox, Reese, Robinson, Hodges, or Campy were disabled during a baseball season. It seems to me like they just played through every game. The same for Erskine, Newcombe, Roe, Podres, Joe Black – they just took their pitching turns. What’s with the current crop of players all over that seem to go on the DL almost once every season with some crap of an excuse? Is my memory just fooling me here?
I agree with you Bear, Would Gil Hodges be out with a stiff neck!
I don’t even remember a disable list back then.
Tonights game will be interesting around the Kershaw emotional mentality, with the recent death of his father. I know the gnat fans are thinking sweep, in fact the ones I run into (all too frequently) claim that they were just a Kershaw HR away from a sweep in the season opening series. So I trust Kershaw will throw a no-hitter to honor his father, He sure could use it with the team BA in this line-up.
This will probably be a tough night for me. This game isn’t on MLB extra innings and I’m using my very weak MLB.TV which I never know when it will shutdown.
I don’t know that this will help OBF, but I find that if I run my cleaner and defragmenter before watching MLB.TV, it seems to run better. On my older computer with less free space… I turn off the sound and adjust the quality of the picture to where I can at least follow the game…even if it isn’t as clear as it should be.
Although, I have no subscription, so usually I rely on gameday and highlights…I usually play music and try to channel good vibes… now that the russian guy is no longer with the team…
And as luck would have it our good friends over at DodgerLyrics have amassed quite a selection of motivation songs to select from…One can usually find something that fits the occasion 🙂
Thanks Dod4Life but I don’t have enough knowledge to do all that but so far everything is fine.
Like I said… I am not too sure it would help even if you did OBF…glad to see evrything is working good so far.
Needless to say the Dodgers are 0-5 with RISP.
Surprise, surprise 😉
Kershaw with the lead off double….
…and, he comes around to score!
WTG Punto.
Oh shit Hanley!
….and, he’s hurt, also!
That’s what I mean. If he was patient, he could have just scored!
Cruz aint cutting it! He needs to be sent down!
I’m surprised Scully hasn’t mentioned it but it’s now 1-10 with RISP.
Dangit! Now we need more runs.
Come on AJ! Your battery mate needs you here!
…no such luck, just another ofer RISP.
How in the h___ can we have 15 baserunners in 7 innings and only score one run????
From what I have seen tonight …we have failed to hit the ball out of the infield…luckily though Punto’s grounder managed to squeek by.
Cruz really looks like shit at the plate – golf swings at pitches two inches off the ground.
Maybe next time he’ll bring a 9 iron, or a sand wedge.
He is stinking it up bad at the plate. . .
Hairston – just another pop up with RISP.
You’d think after the first 2-3 dozen injuries this year, and all of the injuries over the years since Ned brought his SF crone down with him, that they might start looking at the medical and training staff to figure out why this team has more pulled hamstrings, stiff necks, toe jams and farts crossways than any other in baseball.
Yep, you would think someone with an ounce of baseball acumen would have noticed our inordinant amount of injuries….
Of course, like you pointed out earlier, when you employ an old team, you can expect alot more injuries…..
And they’ll give more ABs to a worthless pile of shit like Cruz rather than call up Gordon or anyone else. I’m through with this crap until they make some changes where they need it most – the front office and manager.
I think we are all frustrated as all get up with this current team and management…Any chance I talk you into wearing the papersack again and sticking around???
Amen my brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Baker’s dozen left on base–so far (13)
Hey, Donnie…even the guys on MLB Network say….”BUNT”….or “HIT AND RUN”…..you will never learn!
………and then you put the sorry-ass BelliSorryO in to lose the freaking game!
Dildon is clueless…. Totally unacceptable…..
Damn Beli – he was getting wild and now gives up the gopher ball.
Wake me up in July.
PFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTT!!~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
A really rank putrid one!!!
I’ve been a Dodger fan for over 64 years but I have to say that the best team won.
I think ownership tolerate’s Ned, just so that when things don’t work out… they’ll have a scapegoat!!
Donnie on the other hand …won’t make it that long.
I hope you are right……. Nedcompoop and Dildon need to be gone…. I’ve been saying it for 2 years in Dildons case, and since Nedcompoops 2nd year.
I was just rescued from a deserted island after a year and, damn, that McCourt just has to sell this team. Mediocre talent, mediocre manager, mediocre GM, mediocre excuses. Can’t wait until we get real ownership with some cash and some brains. Maybe then the Dodgers can start righting all the wrongs…and maybe, just maybe, start playing at least .500 ball with some semblance of excitement and urgency. Can’t wait. 25 years and counting……..
Another frustrating loss to a team that finds a way to win. Their big time players come through. Not much more to say about that.
However, I would like to give my two cents toward the question about injuries and how past players dealt with them. We seem to think players from past eras were tougher than today’s players. I am sure players did get hurt in the 50’s and 60’s but the game has changed a lot since then. There were fewer teams and therefore fewer jobs so players most likely played through injuries for fear of losing a job. They also did not make the kind of money players make today. They also did not have the level of medical care or concern we see today or agents to protect them. They had bum knees or bad arms, not torn rotator cuffs and all the other maladies with fancy names nor the remedies.
So are today’s players less tough than past eras? I think they are more aware and at times more cautious. Some of the injuries seem so random and weird. Is it just bad luck? I just don’t know.
lbirken’s point is well taken. I think it’s fair to say the old timers were tougher, but they also had to be. If Mark Fidrich (The Bird) played in today’s game, perhaps his rotator cuff would have been diagnosed and his short career extended.
*
Meanwhile, the two runs given up last night should not have been a killer. Our scoring machine (sarcastically) should have been able to overcome that.
This team is weak…… Good Grief as Nelly would say….
Fire Nedcompoop and Dildon soon…..
I would agree that it is a different era now…and that players from the time when money was an issue were tougher, cause they had to be. They had to work regular jobs in the off season. I also wonder if being from a warm climate like Los Angeles, has something to do with how we prepare for a game…I am just saying do our players get injured in colder climates vs warmer climates?? Does the fact that Donnie juggles the line up so much have anything to do with injuries. I know when I am working construction missing a day takes a small toll on me. I remember last year or the year before Donnie was wondering if it was something in the water in L.A. that was causing all the hamstring injuries? With all the available medical expertice and funding these day’s, you’d think someone would have researched this problem and taken steps to correct it…
Back to the thought of having a running game…I know there are ways to move runners without stealing a bag…However with all these injured above replacement guys going down like flies and the likes of Cruz, Sellers, Hernadez and Uribe to fill in when they do…It would be understandable, if Donnie is hesitant to get guys moving on the bases. Did anyone notice after Hanley was thrown out at third, that Wallach just gave him a look, like he was disgusted, then after noticing that Hanley was limping… turned back around and stared at the bag. I am not knocking Wallach, or even Hanley, just saying there didn’t seem to be much immediate concern for a guy who just returned from the DL. Talk about being laid back…I think it’s time for across the board change…I don’t care if Donnie says that would be like hitting the panic button or not!! Maybe we should call it pulling the fire alarm to get the trucks a coming, cause that would be just plain smart if you noticed your dreams going up in smoke!!!
The pitching is sub par on both ends
The hitting especially with RISP is sub par
The physical therapy and medical staff is sub par
Game time management is sub par, as a whole
Player accusition is sub par…playing a man down, with a sub par bench and bullpen
Ned has his mark on all of this…He should be the gone before I can manage to post this…
A search for overall replacements on the field should be underway as well.
It won’t be long now and season tickets will start to go unused, and will be filling up a “Whole New Blue” garbage can near you…
2010, 2011, 2012 and now 2013…4 years now of getting our behind’s handed to us by our hated rivals…this alone should be reason for change in my book!!!
I am not purosely trying to be negative…I have just decided that these guy’s don’t deserve an inch of leeway…
🙂 No, they don’t…..
Once again…
I am not purposely trying to be negative…I have just decided that these guy’s don’t deserve an inch of leeway…
These days all I can do is support them with my heart…I can just imagine how upset I would be …if I had the means to support their high lifestyles with my pocketbook too!!!
Unacceptable!!!
Oh well, it’s just another game…
Hey!! Wait A Second!!
The Raiders and Broncos is just another game
The Celtics and Pistons is just another game
World Cup Soccer is just another game
Ping Pong is just another game
Monopoly on New Years Eve is just another game
Jacks with your sister is just another game
We aint playing just another game
I ain’t sure what we’re playing these days, but it ain’t just another game!!!
“I just think the whole environment is better here. You’ve got the right type of leaders here. You’ve got the right type of guys. And you know, it’s just a good atmosphere that we have.”
That’s a quote from an interview with Loney, who’s currently streaking at a .375 clip with the Rays. I’m glad for him – can’t really blame the Dodgers for giving up on him, but I wonder whether he’s got a point about our disfunctional organization at the field level.
Even Kasten should be wondering by now whether he’d have been better off canning much of the existing front office and the field management organization. I could have told him YES, JUST DO IT.
Looks like Hanley is back on the DL….Mark, probably also. Just wish it was BeliSorryO and GrrrRear!
🙂
Dee Gordon called up.
I don’t know where you get your info from but you do. I wonder if it’s to play shortstop, which most likely is, I think that’s where he belongs. They should forget about 2B, for Dee.
My Facebook Dodger fans must have Twitter…they seem to get all the information.
The team is going through a tough time and has been for quite a few years. I think if things don’t improve quickly a lot of changes will be made. Mark McGwire will probably go if only for the sake of change like others before him. I guess the batting coach has to take the blame or there will be a big turnover with position players, which is probably where the problem lies.
This new ownership, if they still have enough money, will have to go to the drawing board.
I personally hope this ownership loses its ass, especially blow-hard Magic Johnson. Baseball people instead of big money should have bought this franchise. Nothing too bad can happen to the Guggenheims as far as I’m concerned. The only regret I have is that the Dodgers will have to go through it, and I don’t have that many years left waiting to see them on the top again.
Stack the front office and the bench with Dodger people. If this team is going to lose, at least it can do it the Dodger way…whatever that means, anymore.
Lineup tonight:
CC, lf
A.J., c
Yo-Adrian, 1b
Matty, cf
Dre, rf
Uribe, 3b
Schu, 2b
Gordon, ss
Magill, p
GO DODGERS!
I hope Dee does so well that Hanley will play third base the rest of his career here. And given Ramirez’ hamstring, that might happen anyway, with or without Gordon. Oh, and memo to Donnie: take the Clydesdale out of the two hole and put Gordon there.
The Clydesdale part made me laugh, heck, I think it might even of made A.J. laugh….
Now I envision Donnie reading this and saying ” But he’s a mudder Kahli, he’s a mudder I say!!”Then Hillman taps Donnie on the shoulder and say’s “The field is projected to be dry tonight boss!” Donnies response…”Well then have Belisario sabatoge the sprinkler system…I am counting on that mudder tonight!!”
Agon scratched from lineup…Hairston at 1st.
Before long, we’ll be back to these June 7, 2012 type lineups:
Gordon ss
Herrera 3b
Rivera lf
Hairston 2b
Loney 1b
Castellanos rf
Gwynn cf
Treanor c
Harang p
GIDP – WTG Kemp
This news kinda makes one wonder if Crawford is actually healthy…I am glad they decided to sit Agon rather than risk a more severe injury. But Jeeze Louis, he went from I can’t move my neck… to the starting line up… to, I am guessing…available in case of an emergency?? Did Donnie make this call, was it Agon, maybe Ned chimed in, perhaps Magic dialed a number and put his .50 cents in…Who the heck is in charge???
The first of many Dee errors.
Gameday says…”Pagan doubles on a pop up to shortstop Dee Gordon”???
Matt couldn’t see the ball….sun right in his eyes,,,,Dee had to try and get it.
Thanks tru…
The homeplate umpire sucks!
…he will not give the kid a called strike!
I just noticed that Donnie replaced Cruz who was hitting .100 at the plate, with Uribe who is hitting ,200 at the plate. It’s hard to fathom that there isn’t a better option out there somewhere?
I know a guy who plays for the Padres who would fit nicely.
I think there is a guy on just about every team that would fit better than Cruz and Uribe…but Headly would be the cream of that crop, yes.
I wonder if enchanted needs any help doing whatever it is, he is doing tonight???
With Magill lasting less than 2 innings, and having Agon and M. Ellis on the roster but unplayable…we are currently 3 players short…I think management is carrying this “positive thing” a little too far, by handicapping the current “World Series Champs”….3 roster spots!!!
Sorry…Dee Gordon still sucks!
Hi Everybody
I was watching the game on MLB.TV and the Nets-Bulls game on TV but I couldn’t do anything else on my computer without losing MLB.TV.
The basketball game is over (Brooklyn lost) and now I got this game on MLB Network.
You’re not going to believe it…..I think Hairston just hurt himself!
Whew…he’s at bat!
We’re in the lead.
This inning is like old times.
Hairston’s O.K. that’s good.
Thank goodness!
Nice to see ya OBF, looks like you came just in time…we managed to score a few runs…Now if we can just get the bullpen on the same page…we just might have the makings of something good.
Hairston’s out of the game so he might be having some trouble.
I saw that….Javy just gave a run back!
What team disguised as the Dodgers just put up 7 runs in one inning? Surely it couldn’t be the same lunch meats that have been wearing Dodger Blue so far this season! 😉
I know…who the hell were those guys?!
Yes very unusual, these days.
Vinnie pulled an Eric Collins on Sandoval’s fly out to Kemp.
A Javy implosion!
Deja vu!!
Yep…he still stinks.
….and, Dee’s glove work sucks!
Can anybody tell me why we have a guy that hits .098 playing first base??
Just a hunch here…M.Ellis isn’t on the DL and Scott Van Slyke is in AAA…
Hairston was playing 1st but, he hurt himself running the bases.
BeliSORRYo…really, Donnie?!
i can’t remember the last time his sorry ass held a lead!
Me either.
Aside from the runs this game is ending up about the same as most Dodger games.
Gordon’s speed is changing the dynamics of the slow offense.
Yes.
League is not starting out well – who walks the first batter?
WHEW!!!
Do I smell divine intervention cooking here?
Hope so!
I generally think negative but I thought of that DP just as it happened.
Crap!
You don’t deserve this crap Tru…..
POOF!!!
I’m fed up with this bullpen!! It needs a drastic overhaul!!!
This time I was wrong, I expected Quiros to strike out.
Well we did have some offense tonight.
Lost on a walk off HR by a career minor leaguer, while our career minor leaguer is hitting .097 and playing 1B.
Looks like we will be competing this year……..
…..with the Padres for last place.
Hits with RISP, Wow! and still hitting in to DPs. One inning of hitting won’t convince me ITis fixed, but I am hopeful!
These are the times that try Dodgers fans souls.
The way this team hits with RISP, factored in with the lack of quality starts from the pitching staff and thrown together with a bullpen that underperforms night in and night out…I don’t think anyone will even notice if and when Dee Gordon commits a few errors…
This bullpen is the weak link…Other than Kenley, I have very little confidence that anyone can get the job done…
I think Ned should be the first to go…This would be a wake up call of sorts, it doesn’t mean that Donnie and most of his staff shouldn’t be let go as well….just that Ned’s future, at least to me belongs elsewhere ..So why not try and shake things up and see if those who inhabit the dugout, step it up.
It also seems to me…That there is no better time to send this message than after losing not one, but two early series against the rival Giants!!
Not to mention we have taken just one series against our division rivals as a whole…
.
Unacceptable!!!
🙂 Nicely said my friend…..
This team stinks…. On every level. Our bullpen is horrendous…
Beav was right about League. He’s a worse rendition of Grear.
I’m not onboard with anything going forward with Nedcompoop and Dildon…… This group needs a major overhaul……. They suck..
I am not disputing your “They Suck” commentary Wally…I am merely stating my thoughts, that it is easier to get rid of Ned now and put in an interim GM or perhaps someone whom has already been selected, than to replace Donnie and his staff at this point.
Point well taken…. Ned built this piece of shit, he should take the fall. Dildon will be gone after the All-Star break when this bunch is below .500 and still stinking it up….. This team needs a complete face lift. I’m not so sure about our new owners either…. Starting to resemble the Fox group… Throw alot of money around and think it will turn out OK…
I have no clue as to the validity of what I have read, nor do I remember where I read it. But Somewhere it was written that MLB was worried that Guggenheim could sell the Dodgers if they didn’t get a satisfactory deal when it comes to sharing the proceeds of the new media deal…They have also broken up this media deal I think it was said, so the new owners would only get a portion of it’s proceeds…factor that in with the fact that the parking lots have already been broken up by Frank, meaning that any new ownership after Guggenheim would have to rent the entire space or move… all while assuming $600 million in debt…This would devalue the price clubs could claim they are worth in the future…Not to mention, devalue the fan base of such a storied organization such as the Dodgers…
This guy Bud Selig is anything but a genius…The hard part to swallow is that stuff like this is being done before all eyes to see, and is acceptable, because we as fans need baseball at any and all cost!!
Oh and I wish Magic Johnson would become a silent partner…
Nothing against Magic…I am just tired of his part time basbeball commentary.
I guess when it comes to Magic and I understand he is an investor in this ballclub, it’s his money that helps fund the day to day operations…I would like to see more passion if he is going to become a public figurehead…I would like to see that the Dodgers are first and foremost on his agenda…Even if he has other commitments abroad, doing so many other things, let the world know that today and everyday… you bleed blue!!
Oh, by the way, this is Unacceptable!!!!!!!!!
Anyone know which Hello Kitty Cat is available to come out of the jacks and bouncy ball bullpen today…and does it even matter???
Where to start lol…..I agree Ned should be out of here…Should of been gone along time ago….League does suck what a waste of $ and yrs….Pathetic…Hope you all are doing well
Zona
Ned and Donnie get a huge reprieve because of injuries…hell, they’re probably the ones tweaking these guys in their sleep to save their arses. L.A. Times says Kasten looking at long-term structure of organization/player development…says the expensive roster is an interim fix. No commitment yet to either Ned or Donnie in the future. Hooray!
Aside from Kershaw, Ryu is the best man to have on the mound tonight to avoid the sweep. I know we all know that but I’m just saying…………
Ryu has been a bright spot so far this season, let’s hope he continues to shine like a beacon from a lighthouse and keeps the Dodgers afloat on this Cinco de Mayo…
Happy Cinco de Mayo by the way everyone….
All joking…worrying…griping…guestimating… or personnel bashing aside….I always want this team to WIN and under NO circumstances EVER…do I want them to get swept by our long time Rivals, from the North….
So we’re putting tonight’s game in the WIN column and THAT is THAT!!!
.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!
Television set to ESPN ~ Check
Dodger cap and foam finger on ~ Check
PC charged up and tuned into OTD ~ Check
Pitcher of sweet tea and glass of ice close by ~ Check
Bucket of salted in the shell peanuts filled and ready to go ~ Check
Pitching arm loosened up and ready to go ~ Check
Tossing peanuts for strikes into the forehead of Angel Pagan ~ Soon to be checked
Have no fear… typing should not effect my soon to be… Cy Young, peanut throwing finger and I have no intention of pulling a hamstring in during any part of either process…
I’ve been seeing this for a few years now but can someone explain in a few words, What is Cinco de Mayo?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo
Thanks D4life
🙂
Glad to get out of that inning with only one run scoring.
That could of been much uglier. 1-0 OK dodgers lets GO!
Make that 2.
Just got home from a wonderful day at the Monterey Bay
Aquarium and now….WIN THIS GAME BOYS!
Nice to see you/
monterey! Quite a weather change from what has been! and what did people think of the “dodgers motivation” evaluation that inning from ESPN crew? Doonie will go. Kemp must become the leader, start hitting!
Can they fire someone already
0-7 w RISP.
Good pickoff.
Just like that it’s 4-0.
Ethier gets his hit with nobody on, This hitting out of sync is maddening, 0-9.
This team totally SUCKS! Kemp and Andre SUCK! Gonzo is a total “pain in the neck” ASSHOLE, who won’t even show up on the field!
FIRE DONNIE!
FIRE THE ASSHOLE WHO BROUGHT HIM TO LA!
NED? Well, what does it matter anyway.
BUNCH OF LOSERS!
I don’t think Mark McGwire is doing his job along with John Valentin. I think it’s time for the Dodgers to find somebody else.
.
Also it could be just mental.
Ned has to looking over his shoulder wondering who it is, that is going to replace him???
I really need to find my glasses soon
Ned has to be looking over his shoulder wondering who it is, that is going to replace him???
Thank goodness its the cinco de mayo, plenty of tequila around, this game deserves it , GRRREARRR!
Yeah, I’ve had a few Margaritas, but it isn’t helping much. I don’t even like the mix that we picked up this year. Maybe I’ll have some Tequila straight.
Kemp becomes the 10th man…….ISP
Correction Uribe is the 10th batter.
Now it’s Cruz., the 10th
Make it Gonzalez…and he comes through 1-10.
Maybe we’ll have another 7 run inning. (smile)
CLOSE but no cigar.
We’ve clawed our way back into it….
Well we scared them a little but I must say the Giants have one of the best teams again.
But maybe being swept will wake the Dodgers up.
O for the month of May with Capuano on the way….
I know they know that they are a 1/2 game out of the cellar. It’s time for Mattingly to start to ball them out instead of making excuses. He better because it means his job and the rest of management.
It’s time to get out the cat of nine tails.
Some thing some how has to give. I mean they have the 2nd highest payroll and they are 5-13 against the NL West. It’s time to do something. If this doesn’t happen then Ned has to get his whip out before it’s too late…for him.
“I feel better about our club walking out of here right now than I did walking in,” said Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly, whose team has dropped three straight one-run games. “We played them tough the whole series. I feel great about coming out of here.”
Stan? Magic? Anybody?
What the freaking hell? How can Donnie-boy say that he feels great about being swept by the arch-rival Giants? Geezus (excuse my french). This is just another in a long list of examples of how poor his competitive nature is. Does anybody wonder why the Yankees (the storied Yankees, the Yankees who have far more championships than any other team) could never win a thing as long as Donnie-Boy was on the team??
I am so tired of Donnie-Boy. He’s gotta go even before Nedcompoop. Or just send them both off the deep end together.
Better to be thought of as a dildo, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. What a dope…..
Please, fire Nedcompoop and Dildon soon…… The team is not going to go anywhere with either of them still employed…
It is the perfect time to shake things up. There is nothing lose.
Can them and send a message……. Geeeeeeeez!!!!
I agree 100%.
….it’s pretty bad when the baseball commentators question Donnie-boys moves. I know, it’s the players on the field but, he’s the field general and is doing a poor job of putting plays in motion….his pitching changes also suck.
Yep Tru, Dildon is a tool without the tools. He needs to go.
Ownership needs to really shake this team up.
Fire Ned and Dildon… Conte can also go….
As much as I would probably like Donnie as an individual…As the skipper of my beloved Dodgers I don’t share the same setiment. The only problem I have in letting him go at this point, is unless you already have a replacement staff picked out and ready to go…I don’t know that it will help much. Also if and when we choose to go forward in another direction I don’t want to do it hastily…I want to find the best avalible options to put in place for the future…However, like I have said before, it is my belief that ownership has someone in mind already to succeed Ned, this person may even already be on the payroll? By making this change it clearly sends a message a) That not just that Donnies job is in jeopardy, but if things don’t turn around quickly, many other jobs will be in jeopardy as well… b) That losing series against not just the Giants but against the division isn’t acceptable!! If the players like it in Los Angeles, and like Donnie Ball… they may step up the intensity levels just enough to avoid dissaster…And with what we have to put on the field these days, it’s going to take plenty of intensity and focus to turn this season around and have a shot at the big shabang!!
The way we are playing at the moment, by the end of May we will be come sellers at the deadline and not buyers…And I don’t believe Ned is the guy we want making these moves in any event.
.
I haven’t given up on the season…It is baseball and anything can happen…But it is also a thinking mans game, so it would help to have the best thinkers in the game on your side.
And making a comment that getting swept in a series by one run, two runs, or ten runs (to the division rivals nonetheless)…is a good thing…isn’t good thinking!!
Donnieboy: “I feel good about losing three to the Giants”.
Donnieboy II: “I would like to feel good some more – let’s lose three to the Diamondbacks.” (not an actual quote from Donnieboy, but this is the inference I get from his asinine quote of last night.)
The Dodgers being in the “sellers” position in another month or so is really not a tenable position – just who are we going to sell, and for what. We have assumed our share of heavy salary contracts that nobody else wanted, and have added a few of our own that are not producing any results. So tell me, just who do we have to trade – Sellers, Cruz, Shumaker, or Uribe? I declare that there isn’t a GM out there comparable to Ned in gullibility, so we’re stuck with what we’ve got. The only option in my mind is to remove Donnie, because he doesn’t know how to maneuver or inspire the existing pieces, and Ned because we don’t want the existing situation repeated into the future.
I would bet that in the event that we are forced to become sellers…There are teams out there that would find some players on our roster appealing (even with the salary complications)…I may be wrong, as I have been on many occasions in the past. It also would seem to me that if this ballclub doesn’t make post season play…There is a fairly good chance that the competition for an outfield spot next season will present itself in a more urgent and timely manner.
But as I said …I still believe that there is reason to have hope for this season…even with Donnie as the skipper!!
One more thing I would like to say…How has Neds last acquisition, the catcher that was to provide stability and pop off the bench been helpful in recent days???
He is providing support to Luis Cruz, who can truthfully state, “I am not the worst hitter on this team!”
I think something has to be done. Something to shake things up. Like firing the hitting coach which has been done several times in the recent past. With the failling to hit with RISP an obvious big problem the hitting or batting coaches have to be the scape goats, I mean we need somebody else for them to listen to.
Regardless a move has to be done to show that this team is serious about winning. Even if it means firing Ned or Donnie or both.
Pitching always seemed to me what keeps this team running but lately even that hasn’t been too good. Honeycutt better watch his butt.
Whatever, a surprise move might do the trick, that is if this sweep by the Giants hasn’t meant anything to this team already.
The Dodgers to me right now are just 30 or some individual players with no chemistry. Something has to be done.
How many 3rd baseman has Ned put on the roster…
Uribe
Hairston
Cruz
Sellers
Hanley
The only one who could possibly start for another team, if he was healthy…Is Hanley and he has been cemented in as our shortstop.
How many shortstops has Ned put on the roster…
Gordon
Uribe
Sellers
Hanley
Cruz
I think it is highly possible that none of the above could start for another MLB team…
Whom has ned acquired as our backup 1st baseman in the event that Agon is injured…
Uribe
Cruz
Hairston
I am almost certain none of the above would be replacements elsewhere at first base…
He has gambled on League, Belisario, Guerrier and Howell as the backbone to our bullpen…with what was assumably was an unlimited budget during the winter??
In my opinion, Ned has handed Donnie a $200 million house of straw and asked him to keep the wolf at bay…Not that I believe that Donnie is the right guy to keep the wolf at bay…But from what the players say…they believe he is.
Our pitchers have about as good a BA as our most of our 3rd baseman…and most of our 3rd baseman double as our back up 1st baseman…and there aren’t much better options in the minors…Van Slyke isn’t even on the 40 man roster, but could at the very least provide some pop off the bench…It is not like Ned values his future so much that he needs seasoning in the minors. He was cut loose and passed through waivers…yet is having a good season to date.
Meanwhile Ned continues to let the team play several players down while using the likes of Sellers and Cruz as bats off of the bench.
Last night on Dodger Talk, Kevin Kennedy was advocating bringing up Scott Van Slyke and Tim Fedex. I agree. I would do it today.
It was reported that the team saved $2MM in the trade for Hernadez while according to Ned adding some pop off the bench…Of course he may have been reffering to an extra tub of Bazooka Bubble Gum that sit’s atop the upper shelf???
Yep, Bazooka has more pop than our bench!
Having a catcher with pop doesn’t provide pop off the bench unless you carry three catchers or are willing to use your last catcher as a pinch hitter. Once again, Ned proves that he is Nedcompoop.
Sellers at the deadline? No way. There is plenty of time left in this season…and plenty of talent here already. But playing with intensity and singleness of purpose has NOT been a part of this season…injuries notwithstanding. I guarantee other managers could win regularly with this line-up. That the players are “comfortable” with Mattingly and that he, himself, is “feeling great” about his team’s effort and play coming off a sweep at the hands of the Gnats tells me nothing will change.
Kahli, if Kemp and Eithier didn’t look lost at times and Beckett Belisario and League…weren’t performing at sub par levels according their own capabilities…We probably would be winning more often…But the fact remains that they are not…and like you say…everyone seems to be in the let’s kick back and enjoy Lallapalooza mood, no worries, cause the winds of change are bound to shift any day now…So let’s just breathe in and breathe out. Kemp in my opinion is like Tigger the bouncy cartoon character…he needs to be energetic and having fun… He doesn’t look like he is enjoying the game or even playing like one would expect a cartoon Tigger to play…Forget needing a leader, just have some fun, play with passion, but do it with good solid focus.on the game itself…Dre kind of reminds me of Yosemite Sam…He is at his best when fired up…Belisario resembles Mutley the dog, so I suppose Guerrier could be Dick Dastardly…I somehow envision Uribe stealing pic-i-nic baskets and Sellers sems to have a knack for Boo-Boo.’s ..I could go on and on…but Tom and Jerry just came on so….I’ll spare y’all….Donnie could be the Hillbilly Bear, cause I am never to sure what the heck he is mumbling about anyways…but he is laid back!!
I’m feeling better about this squad Ned has assembeled already….
If there’s a lesson that I’ve learned, it is that I would not take a player from another team who’s got a big long term contract in place and has not lived up to it in the past season – there is a complacency factor in this game once the big bucks come your way. I think the Boston trade was a disaster. Look at how Boston is doing without all these great players they gave up.
There might be a consideration here about how many of such huge contracts you want to give out to your own players. I can’t blame Kemp for having a hard time coming back from his injuries and surgery – time will tell, but Andre and Bills never did enough to deserve their contracts, and I think Andre is too complacent, and Bills may never recover his form, whatever that was. Kershaw will be a tough decision. We almost have to sign him, but realistically health is always an issue for a pitcher with a huge and long contract, so I understand the team’s willingness to put it off until you have to deal with it. I don’t really care about the money, or how much of it the Guggenheim people lose; I don’t like to see the complacency and loss to injury when so much money has been handed out.
Since ownership has already invested a lot of money into this team and it’s actually playing worse than before the investment, I have a big feeling that a big CHANGE is about to happen.
Boy, I hope there’s a big CHANGE coming! Would love to see a few people GONE and the troops shaken up, especially if they don’t like it.
Donnie’s comments even bothered me although I think I understand what he is thinking. Face it, although it seems as if the Giants totally dominated all three games, the fact remains al three were one run victories and the Giants had big leads in two of those games. Perhaps these games say more about the Giants than the Dodgers. The Giants are getting the most out of what they have. They are doing what it takes to win. Cannot say the same thing about the Dodgers.
Consistently losing one-run games is more damning, to me, than getting blown out. It speaks to strategy and in-game management skills, otherwise known as bullpen and little ball. Bottom line: this team is under-performing and has been for more than a season…or two. Sometimes nice guys DO finish last.
I see they’re going to have a Kings vs. Ducks game in Dodger Stadium in 2014.
Apropriately, the Dodgers are playing like might ducks.
Oh wait, that’s mighty fu…
NEVERMIND.
It’s time for the Boy’s to back up what they and Donnie have said…that even know they were SWEPT by the Rivals from up North…they have a good feeling about how they played…The only way these comments have an ounce of validity, is if you start winning, and winning consistantly…
