Wishing for a prosperous winter meeting and a happy new year.

  2. lbirken says:

Happy belated Thanksgiving to all and best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

  3. nellyjune says:

Jhall – Congrats on your Buckeyes win today. I know how huge that rivalry is.

    • JhallWally says:

Thanks Nelly. Yeah, it is a huge rivalry and game out here. Finishes off an undefeated 12-0 season. Darn shame they can’t play for the Big Ten Championship and a possible national title shot.. Oh well, we’ll be back in the mix next year. Thanks again.
      Go Bucks!!!!!

      • nellyjune says:

Looks like they would have played Notre Dame! Yea, its too bad, and all the other teams are saying “Thank God we don’t have to play them!” including Notre Dame – lol!!!

I pulled up on one of our job sites a couple of days ago already in a not great mood which immediately got worse when I observed the condition of the work zone. At the same time a fellow working adjacent to the job came running yelling “How about those Giants?”
He’s from the Bay Area and a big fan. Believe me, the last thing I wanted to do was talk about their season, their players and the playoffs, but I did. He’s always been decent and acknowledged the Dodgers when they did well, so I did the same for his team. What a day.

  5. It’s funny how any discussion on say sports, politics or religion goes, it always seems to depend on the attitude of the person that you are talking to.

  9. Looks like Dee Gordon is being shopped. And James Loney is about to become a Tampa Bay Ray!

  10. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gordon is traded, since this would ease the situation between short and 3rd.

  11. My head is spinning from all the deals we’ve been making…

    • trublu4ever says:

      ( 😉 )

    • It must be very tough on Ned to not have to rely on his dumpster diving. Hoping he’s on a 12-step program to control this addiction.

      • Saw an interview with Stan Kasten who says they want to do things smart. Unfortunately with Ned in charge he’s going in unarmed.

        • Dodger4life says:

All Ned has to do is open the door and say “There is another agent here to see you Mr. Kasten, would you like me to show him in?” He can’t possibly screw that up can he…

          • Dodger4life says:

Never mind…Ned will probably say…”In previous years I was taught to follow available free agents around the hotel…Now that they are all following me like an entourage…I’m confused, which room is Mr.Kasten in again???

  12. Dodger4life says:

Ah never mind…What do y’all say we head to Memphis for some B.B.Q??

    • nellyjune says:

Memphis has some of the best BBQ in the country, but North Carolina wasn’t too shabby either. Nashville is about 3 hours from Memphis, and I have been to the Opry Hotel….gorgeous!

      • Dodger4life says:

Ned again: Memphis Bar-B-Que is only 3 hours from Nashville…
        .
The mate was a mighty sailing man,
        The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
        .
I’m buying Boy’s…there is no budget…I repeat… there is no budget these days…
        .
I plan to head that way myself Nelly…you know when there is no budget…

  13. Dodger4life says:

I will say “That it is nice change to see the Dodgers name being mentioned in everything on Gods Green Earth baseball related…”
    .
I forgot to say “Hello Nelly”…I am sure you enjoyed your recent trip to N.C.! I know I enjoyed some of the benefits of it…Thanks again 🙂
    .
Have a wonderful afternoon everyone… All of the sudden I am in the mood for smoking some ribs and drinking some sauce…
    .
    Go Dodgers!!

  14. trublu4ever says:

So good to see you, Enchanted, and Nellyjune back here. Can’t wait until our group is in full swing once again!

  15. Victorino on his way to Boston. Hope he finds success there. Although it was difficult to cheer him on in the beginning of his short stint with the Dodgers, I grew to love his “give it all for the team” attitude. But one thing is bothering me during these meetings – although the rumor has been put down, there’s still more speculation about Andre getting traded! Don’t these writers read????

    • I was just reading that Mattingly told Andre’ not to pay attention to rumors of talks about trading him, but of course I know this is just routine, but it seems to me that those rumors have stopped.
Lately it’s more about Dee Gordon.

  16. kahliforni says:

Dear Donnie, please don’t let Hanley play shortstop. Be a real a manager and demand defense. And while we’re at it, dear Ned, please don’t stock the line-up with nothing but prima donna stars (we all know the Dodgers want Hanley to play short so they can bring in Mike Schmidt or Brooks Robinson to play third); a team needs grinders, too, like Cruz.

    • Dodged that bullet. Choate sucks big time. No reason Paco can’t be the LOOGY. They projected him possibly making the majors last season and he did. Hell, he pitched college ball, its not like he just came out of high school. When are they going to start showing a little faith in the young guys?

  17. ZonaDodger says:

Um who cares lol…..I’d rather have Sean Burnett

  18. Dodger4life says:

Ned again: Just a quick note, while in Nashville I am currently in discussions about the King…No not King Felix! Elvis Presley!!…Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Love and Blue Suede Shoes Baby!! And y’all though I didn’t know what I was doin’!

  19. ZonaDodger says:

    Just seen that Tru..thx

  20. Dodger4life says:

Ned with another small note: It turns out that when I signed Uribe to become the RBI guy…He was under the impression that RBI’s were a Dyslexic rib joint…So while in Memphis last night with the gang, I offered him straight up for a big old plate of their finest ribs… I’m sorry to report they found no use for him as well…Anyhow…I hear that Elvis guy has a sweet swing…

  21. ZonaDodger says:

    LOL…Angels will regret signing Blanton

  22. kahliforni says:

Losing Choate no biggie…that said, he’ll probably own Ethier.

    • Don’t all lefties? 🙂

      • kahliforni says:

Yes…so if Choate, a journeyman hack, owns Ethier, we’ll all know he can’t hit ANY lefty.

        • trublu4ever says:

          Tru is not amused!

          • kahliforni says:

We’re just trying to fire up Andre,…you know, how Kobe disses, I mean fires up his teammates in hopes of delivering him his precious next ring. Seriously, I enjoy Ethier and consider him a great player. But he’s a bit of an enigma….

          • trublu4ever says:

I know…he will be fired up, you’ve got my word on it…..after all the talk this off season about him being traded, he will be awesome this year!

      • nellyjune says:

He hit .260 something against left-handed starting pitchers, which isn’t bad considering some of our team wasn’t hitting .260 against any pitcher (left or right). As for relief pitchers, most of them were specifically brought in to get Andre out, and because I see things through more of a pitcher’s perspective these days, I credit the pitcher coming and doing his job rather than Andre not doing his.

        • trublu4ever says:

          Amen!

        • JhallWally says:

Excellent observation and point Nelly!! We need a lefty mashing pinch hitter to pinch hit for Ethier late in games against lefty relievers. Dildon probably doesn’t pinch hit for him because he doesn’t really have any good pinch hitting options.

  23. trublu4ever says:

Looks like Texas is going to get Greinke….not sure, but, I wish he’d make up his mind. I have a feeling Dee Gordon is going to be traded. So far, for me, a Dodger fan, this has been another snoozer of a winter meeting.

  24. So far it looks like Ned’s not going anywhere in these meetings but time will tell and there’s still plenty of it.

  25. trublu4ever says:

I’m hearing Stan & Ned have left the meetings…..no deals done….nothing new!

  26. kahliforni says:

As far as Ned’s shopping list, if he never signs Ryu, fine with me. Just more Scott Boras armed robbery, as far as I’m concerned. Make Boras blink first this time. Dodgers will be fine without the Korean lefty. Same with Greinke. Given the Dodgers’ experience with Kevin Brown and Jason Schmidt, pitchers do, indeed, break. Six-year contracts for pitchers are ludicrous. Give Kershaw the freaking money. The Cardinals and Gnats have shown the last two years that a fantasy-league roster doesn’t translate into wins. Grit does…as well as a few power arms. Let’s not forget the power-armed “kid” pitchers the Dodgers have. Youth wins, these days. Just look at the Lakers… I mean, does anyone really want to trade Dee Gordon and Zach Lee for 38-year-old R.A. Dickey? I sure as hell don’t!!!

    • The latter will be a typical Ned panic move.

Couple people have floated the idea though of Gordon and a prospect or two for Seager’s brother up in Seattle. That I’d be down for. Wouldn’t hurt to have a real third baseman.

Ryu I’m on the fence about. Can’t possibly be worth the Boras hype, but on the other hand the thought of Harang/Capuano/Lilly in the rotation is worse.

  27. Dodger4life says:

Living in the northwest and hearing Mariner news frequently, it has been speculation that they won’t be able to afford King Felix in terms of dollars and years. This was before the recent speculation of acquiring Hamilton ( thought to happen if Texas signs Greinke. ) I have also heard the Mariners and King Felix are going nowhere in extension talks…With the M’s moving in their fences I can see them wanting a speedy Gordon to go along with Hamilton ( if this actually becomes a reality. ) I like the idea of Seager at third, although I love the idea of King Felix so much better and don’t we need another bona fide arm more than anything else. I was just kidding around about Ned signing the King but he did go out and get us an Elveys..Dare I say King again?? ( Now watch him get Louis the 8th to go with Harang and Capuano…

  28. ZonaDodger says:

I could care less if Greinke signs with Tx…..King Felix wow

  29. ZonaDodger says:

    Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN

Agent points out as a factor in Greinke talks:Because of taxes, LAD would have to offer about $180m just to match a $150m-ish offer from TEX

  30. ZonaDodger says:

If that’s true walk the hell away

  31. ZonaDodger says:

Dodgers should trade Gordon and other prospects for shields, then sign ryu then try for lohse or another cheap option. Success in my book…..Just my opinion folks

    • A lot of people think Lohse’s good season or two is an anomaly, plus we’d have to give up a draft pick to sign him. If we have to go the FA route, I think Sanchez has a lot more upside than Lohse without the draft pick loss.

Shields I can see going for though.

Yes, the stupid people of California voted a $6 billion tax increase on themselves and drug the rest of us with them. Its pretty much what can be expected when the number of voters exceeds the number of people working.

Ho is it in AZ AZ? It and Texas are my next choices if and when I can get out of Dodge again.

  32. ZonaDodger says:

Hearing Ryu Hyun-jin passed a physical today. Still hasn’t agreed to terms, but will be absolutely floored if deal isn’t complete by Sunday

  33. ZonaDodger says:

Nice out here enchanted…Been in the middle 70’s for temps….Thanks for asking

    • Nice!

How is it for weather around Prescott Valley/Central AZ? The only thing that scares me about AZ are the temps in the summer. I know Phoenix and Tucson are WAY too hot for me. I should’ve never left southern NM.

  34. I was thinking of a trade of Gordon for Dickey, Just thinking of it, that is. It’s hard to tell but I think the Mets would get the better of the deal. I, like others, feel that knuckleballers have a short life span. Dickey’s fine if he continues this way, but I have my doubts.

  35. ZonaDodger says:

    Enchanted,

To get into the cooler weather in Az i would recommend Flagstaff,Prescott and the White Mountains…Show Low,Pine Top etc are nice…I live in Tucson and yes it get’s warm here lol

  36. 32and53fan says:

    OBF,

I think knuckleballers have a long playing career. Tom Candiotti, Charlie Hough, and Hoyt Wilhelm are a few ex-Dodgers who lasted quite a while, ending their careers at age 41, 46, and 49 respectively.

  37. JhallWally says:

I see there is alot of interest in Dee Gordon from other teams. Perhaps Nedcompoop can unload Uribum as part of a Dee Gordon trade. I’m still not sure why Ned and Uribum are still associated with the Dodgers. Regardless of how, they both need to go away!!

I would not trade for Dickey. He is basically an old journeyman pitcher who had one great year. He won’t replicate it going forward. And please, don’t go after Lohse or Dempster. Both are extremely overrated.

I hope the Dodgers can acquire a lefty mashing outfielder to play against tough lefties for Ethier and pinch hit for him late in games when the other team brings in a lefty specialist to get Ethier out. Nelly made a really good observation about Ethiers struggles against lefty specialist relievers.

    • trublu4ever says:

I heard Neddie was trying to shop Uribe….surprise, surprise, he was met with chuckles! 😉

    • nedisajerk says:

The thing with Dickey is that Ellis and T-Fed probably have no experience catching a knuckleballer pitcher.

    • I wonder if it would help if Ethier would take BP against left-handed pitchers only. I know if someone suggested that to him he’d probably would get mad but maybe he can figure out a way to have more success with them.

  38. messagebear says:

I see where Andruw Jones is going to play in Japan. Didn’t see the name of the team, but Kobe would seem appropriate – well, maybe not as a player, but mascot? I remember referring to him as the Curacao cow; now Kobe beef.

  39. trublu4ever says:

Hold on to your hats…it now appears the Zack will be a Dodger….reporting all over the place….will let you know when it’s official.
