Honoring A Legend

Honoring A Legend

It’s Vinny’s bobble-head night. This is one game I wish I was attending. He is even throwing out the first pitch….how exciting is that?!

    And, here is our lineup:
    Punto, 2b
    Victorino, cf
    Gonzalez, 1b
    Ramirez, ss
    Ethier, rf
    Cruz, 3b
    Rivera, lf
    Ellis, c
    Kershaw, p

  2. trublu4ever says:

With Billz and Jansen probably finished for the year….what the hell are we going to do? Is Ned going to get pitcing, or will we bring several up from the minors?

  3. lbirken says:

Lucky me, I will be at tonight’s game and hopefully will get there in time to see the festivities.

It would be tough enough to lose either Jansen or Billz, especially with the way he has been pitching. Losing both along with Elbert makes things that much harder.

I finally checked out the Dodgers remaining schedule vs. that of the Giants. Now I know what everyone was talking about. Dodgers will be VERY hard pressed to not only catch Gnats, but even secure a wild card. Too bad. I thought September was about playing within the division; guess that was a long time ago when there were only two divisions per league. Instead, Dodgers get Cards, Nationals and Reds. Ouch. Gnats don’t play anybody decent.

  5. crzblue says:

Very excited to be here. hisla rge family will be here too!

I saw you in the audience at the town hall meeting with Stan Kasten on Dodgers Live after tonight’s game.

  6. messagebear says:

Just what is the team’s fascination with Punto?
And, I thought we got Victorino because we needed a proper leadoff man. Does Donnie know what the hell he’s doing?
    Well, don’t even answer that.

  7. grizzy says:

Guess that’s why it’s said you can never have to much pitching.

  8. crash24now says:

    Look out! Guerrrrrrrrier is back!

  9. How many different line-ups had Donnie used in his not quite 2 years? Team chemistry? He wouldn’t know what that was if it came up and bit him in the ass. Not going to go anywhere as long as he’s the manager, and that includes this year making the playoffs.

    • trublu4ever says:

Let’s say there are 30 games left this season ……so, Donnie has managed 294 games ….. of those, I’d say he’s used the same lineup around 4 times……Ta-Da….the grand total is 290 different lineups 🙂

  10. I see Donnie’s really got the troops motivated again tonight.

  11. Hope the great Punto experiment has run its course.

Well, that’s ballgame. Guess I’ll check back in on Sunday to see if we’re 7 1/2 out.

  12. vl4eccjr says:

Well that could have been much worse. That was a timely twin killing!

  13. trublu4ever says:

I’m sure glad Punto is playing instead of Ellis!

  14. trublu4ever says:

    Phooey!

  15. vl4eccjr says:

    Disappointing!

  16. Runs are at a premium…

  17. 32and53fan says:

Lately, I’ve been watching games that I recorded on DVD. Either live or prerecorded, it’s been torture watching the team sinking fast.
With the new, high priced talent, I still have hope for this season.

  18. messagebear says:

Gee, what’s this country and the game of baseball coming to if you can no longer buy a championship?

  19. As Ron White said, “You can’t fix Donnie.”

Oh wait, that’s “You can’t fix stupid.”

  20. Maybe we can buy a few runs . . . .

  21. kahliforni says:

I’m hoping Kasten is taking notes during the free fall. No excuses and no injury alibis. I’m still waiting for Donnie to put a play on; seems he plays not to lose, fearful of any gambles. It’s the National League, for heaven’s sake. The stagnant offense is no aberration. We should have Dodger pedigree running the show, not a Gnat GM and a Yankee manager.

  22. JhallWally says:

    Hello Gang….
I’m still around and following our Dodgers… Alot has happened since I last posted. Seems like our new owners have alot more money than brains. I guess we will see. The Ethier contract was ill advised in my opinion. He’s great in April and May but doesn’t do squat after that. I’m glad to see the Loney era over. I can’t really get behind the team until they get rid of Nedcompoop. And, Juan Uribe…..

  23. JhallWally says:

Miss you Tru!!! I’ll be back soon…..

  24. Wally!! Good to see you, sir! Hope all is well, or at least reasonable, with you.

  25. crash24now says:

    Good news comes in threes???!!!

    1) Hey Wally! Good to see you!
    2) Giants lost to Cubbies today 6-4
    3) Kemp is back in the lineup tonight.

  26. lbirken says:

You know it has been a disappointing night at the ballpark when the highlight of the evening is watching Vinny, via his grandkids, throw out the first pitch. Not sure how many of you heard the postgame show on the radio last night but Kevin Kennedy and even Rick Monday sounded like many of you when questioning why anyone needs rest at this time of the season and why the Dodgers don’t have the best players available on the field.

    • kahliforni says:

Resting regulars this late in the season is how Joe did it…and Donnie is Joe’s clone. I really am kind of shocked that Donnie hasn’t carved more of an original niche for himself. He even knows how to ding pitchers’ arms like Joe. If new ownership is all about winning, I’m not sure how Mattingley has any kind of job security. It’s not like he’s “hit the ball out of the park” as a manager these past two years.

  27. DodgerZona says:

I would rather see Ethier bat in front of Hanley but does it matter?

  28. trublu4ever says:

    Please Harang…..don’t let them hang!

  29. Hi everbody
I’m watching the game on my Netpad, MLB.Extra innings has the Dodgers on a bad channel and I couldn’t get MLB.TV up on my PC.
I’m listening to it on the audio KLAC on my PC.

  30. DodgerZona says:

Come on Harang…Please have a great game

  31. DodgerZona says:

    Need a win boys

  32. DodgerZona says:

    Damn Andre

  33. DodgerZona says:

    Normally catches that

  34. DodgerZona says:

    Whew got out of that

  35. Donnie’s got probably the best coach of running in the game in Lopes, that’s why they brought him in in the first place. So why is it they never run, never hit and run, never bunt, never run and hit. Nothing.

You would like to think that the average human being would be intelligent enough to learn and get a better grasp of things in two years of on the job training, but I seriously doubt Donnie could grasp what it takes to even be a Wal-Mart greetor.

  36. DodgerZona says:

    run and hit….Damn Harang u can’t lay a bunt?

  37. Now I have Charlie and Rick.

  38. DodgerZona says:

    Come on Dodgers

  39. DodgerZona says:

    nice Harang….RUNS

  40. kahliforni says:

Billingsley has started 25 games, Harang is starting his 26th. They each have FIVE sacrifice bunts. Do the math. Just what DID the pitchers do in spring training with the bat?

  41. DodgerZona says:

So much for Donnie’s meeting…Goodnight game over

  42. vl4eccjr says:

    Harang is hanging his pitches.

  43. Kind of hoping for Cahill to make some mistakes.

  44. DodgerZona says:

    They have booed enchanted

  45. DodgerZona says:

Sorry didn’t mean to get in between u 2 lol

  46. vl4eccjr says:

Wow! Punto really scorched that one!

  47. trublu4ever says:

Nice slide Punto….Way to go Mark!

  48. DodgerZona says:

    wow 2 runs

  49. That was 2 for 3 with RISP.

  50. crash24now says:

Donnie needs four runners on base to score any runs. Station to station at its worst.

  51. Good to see Kemp draw a walk, steal second and tag up and go to third.

  52. trublu4ever says:

    Way to go Dre!

  53. DodgerZona says:

Nice now let’s win this damn game

  54. trublu4ever says:

GrrrRear coming in….keep your fingers crossed.

  55. I’m sure now that they’ve tied it that there’s nothing to worry about. Afterall, we’ve got League and Choke in the pen 😉

  56. DodgerZona says:

    Nice job Tolleson

  57. What a bench we have!!!

  58. Whew! Beli was worrying there.

  59. DodgerZona says:

Enchanted…Alb is in the playoffs…Sorry if u knew that

  60. trublu4ever says:

    Cruuuuz,, awesome play!

  61. A play like Cruz just made could give me hope.

  62. trublu4ever says:

Nice job League…..wow, I thought Sellers had a lot of tattoos…this guy is loaded….I like him!

  63. Think next time we see any mention of our bench it’ll be in the obituary column.

  64. Thought we traded Loney to Boston…

  65. trublu4ever says:

    Oh, crap, guess who’s pitching?!

  66. vl4eccjr says:

    POOF!!
    Thanks Grrrear!

  67. DodgerZona says:

Figures …game over for sure now

  68. trublu4ever says:

I don’t know why League couldn’t go one more inning….he hardly threw any pitches!

  69. I understand that Kubel was long overdue.

  70. crash24now says:

    Damnit Guerrrrrrrrrrrrier

  71. Sure hope AJ comes through – Uribe’s on deck! No es bueno!

  72. You know, a real manager might’ve had Hanley try and steal second so he could score on a single.

  73. And so ends another night of watching Donnie fail as a manager.

  74. Well we almost won. I guess the D’bags still own us.

  75. I’m off to watch Star Wars – see you all tomorrow night.

  76. kahliforni says:

Guess it’s Donnie-bashing night…nothing else to do. My one beef with the bottom of the 11th inning was the 3-1 pitch to Cruz. Donnie HAS to run and hit there. Now, that was the pitch Cruz singled on, and even running, Hanley probably stops at third; it was a hard-hit ball. But the message Donnie sends to his players is a negative one. The worst thing that Cruz could do on a 3-1, run and hit, is to swing and miss. Anything else is fine. And even then, Ramirez has a good chance of stealing 2nd base. So Donnie is basically telling Cruz you’re going to swing and miss and he’s telling Ramirez you’ll get thrown out. The SAFEST thing to do is just what Donnie did. What would Lasorda do…or better yet, what DID he do a million times? Take the gamble.

  77. grizzy says:

Fast pitch softball used to be a big deal in this region, some pretty good teams in Utah and Colorado. I was on a team at one time that was loaded with talent, but personalities never meshed, and the team was flat. We were consistently outplayed by lesser teams. But that is where any comparison to the Dodgers ends. I guess the point is, these fellows have not had the chance to jell as a unit or may never do it at all. It rather looks like to me they are being pushed out of the race by a bunch of also rans. You’d think these millionaires would start to earn their pay soon, but they may not.
Pretty disappointing, but like Johnny said, “I don’t like it, but I guess things happen that way.” Maybe they’ll turn it around, it’s Sept. 1st, so it will have to be soon. Like now.

  78. lbirken says:

Grizzy, not sure why some teams go flat but never having been in this situation myself, I can only relate to what I see as a fan. We hear about “chemistry” all the time in sports but most of us have no idea what it really means. I caught part of an interview with Davy Lopes on the radio pregame show last night and he was talking about it sometimes helps to have some player conflicts and a little anger. He was also asked how Lasorda handled the tough times and Davy commented about how Tommy would constantly remind each player about how much better Tommy believed that player was over the opponent. I got the sense Davy was disappointed at how the players have responded to the challenge. He made it clear he believed the problems have nothing to do with effort or desire but all about execution.

  79. grizzy says:

lbirk-thanx for the Lopes comments. I don’t get that stuff out here.

  80. Hi Everybody
Ready for another night of Dodger baseball.

  81. trublu4ever says:

I see Fed-Ex, Ely & Guerra were called up for the expansion. I’m glad they didn’t call up more….However, a “bat” would have helped.

  82. That was sure a strong first inning for Beckett.

  83. So much for that rirst inning.

  84. trublu4ever says:

I see you! Finally an early run!

  85. That’s HANLEY’s 9th HR as a Dodger, already.

  86. trublu4ever says:

    This HP Ump is pathetic!

  87. trublu4ever says:

At least Upton’s homer was a solo!

  88. That lead certainly didn’t last long.

  89. Sure a gruesome twosome we have leading off.

  90. Can make it a threesome when you add Adrian Loney.

  91. trublu4ever says:

I would have Cruz or A.J. up there….of course, I’m just a dumb fan!

  92. Another pretty sharp inning for beckett but Wheeler made him work.

  93. Cruz hit it hard again but to no avail.
    0 for 5 with RISP.

  94. crash24now says:

Doesn’t this offense ever do ANYthing? They ought to watch the Ducks football team. That offense knows how to get things done.

  95. Glad Donnie had that talk with them. I hate seeing this team when it isn’t all fired up.

  96. trublu4ever says:

    Thank-you Andre!

  97. trublu4ever says:

    Uh, oh….pitching change!

  98. Beckett pitched another nice game and I hope he gets the win tonight.

  99. Hey we got a run!

Beckett pitched a nice game tonight.

  100. nellyjune says:

    I know it’s late………yeah Hanley and Andre!!!

  101. trublu4ever says:

Please get them out Mr. Wright!

  102. crash24now says:

And now we test the Jansen-less bullpen with a one run lead.

  103. Hey…Shane draws a walk.

  104. Hey Donnie, see what can happen when you actually run.

  105. crash24now says:

Gotta score Shane now … runner on third, no outs. Come on, offense!

  106. crash24now says:

I’d rather that he tries and he’s out, than that they never try anything at all.

  107. Why am I not surprised?

  108. trublu4ever says:

    I’m having another Pepto moment!

  109. Nice closing job by League.

  110. vl4eccjr says:

    FINALLY!!!
Maybe they can at least salvage a split for this series. . .

  111. crash24now says:

Holy crap! We won a game!

  112. grizzy says:

Great job by the pitchers, making a whopping two tuns stand up.

  113. lbirken says:

Just got home from the game. Beckett looked good tonight. He had great control and the breaking ball kept the hitters off balance. Nice to see a couple of Dodger home runs but the offense still struggles. At least tonight they hit some hard balls but right at someone. Let’s hope tonight marks the beginning of a long win streak and the Dodgers find a way to finish the season strong.

  114. All the team needs is a pep talk from Tommy Lasorda. He’d get them going.

  115. trublu4ever says:

Almost same lineup today…..except Treanor will catch Cappy.

  116. trublu4ever says:

    Abreu called up from AAA.

  117. Hi Everybody.
Just when I was getting myselve prepared for a non-postseason finish, I noticed that the Dodgers are only 1 1/2 games behind that Wild Card game tied with the the Bucs behind the Cards. No rest for the wiery, I quess.

  118. Why is Ellis leading off yet again?

  119. trublu4ever says:

    Beast Mode is back!

  120. trublu4ever says:

Another hit off a lefty for Dre!

  121. And RISP drought continues.

  122. trublu4ever says:

    Crap!

  123. The D’backs always seem to come right back.

  124. And the hit parade just keeps on coming from our top 3. Guess Donnie likes their consistancy.

  125. trublu4ever says:

    Crap, Cappy!

  126. When I least expected it, D’backs take the lead.

  127. Good news The Nats beat the Cards 4-3.

  128. 32and53fan says:

WTF is going on with these guys? I thought last night was a sign that they were going to turn things around. Now I just checked the MLB scoreboard only to find out that the offense is just as anemic as ever. We need rallies, not just a couple of solo homers now and then. Everybody is saying that the Dodgers should win on paper. Well, we all know that the game is played on the field and the only paper relevant to the team is toilet paper… to help flush away the awful stench that they are producing right now.

  129. kahliforni says:

Unless the Dodgers go berserk the last few weeks, just what has Donnie done to warrant coming back?

    • trublu4ever says:

Nothing! However, I read this morning, that Lyons, Collins, Steiner and Monday are all coming back….so, it doesn’t look good for us to lose Ned, Donnie or Bunnynutts.

      • kahliforni says:

When Vinny isn’t on TV I turn down the sound. Collins and Lyons never stop talking. “Three and one to the batter…one more ball and he gets a free pass.” Really?

        • trublu4ever says:

I do the same thing. What’s even worse is Charlie on the radio thinking every warning track ball is a homer! And, he never lets Monday talk.

  130. More positive news, the Brewers just beat the Pirates 12-8.

  131. Nice going Andre’ that brings in Matt.

  132. MAN it’s hard to score runs.

  133. oh o.. this doesn’t look good.

  134. These D’backs don’t even give us time enough to think before they get our runs back.

  135. Nice clutch hit for Victorino.

  136. 32and53fan says:

I’m leaving. I hope I have a nice surprise when I get back.

  137. grizzy says:

Kennedy? I thought Abreu was brought up.

  138. messagebear says:

Donnie’s saving Abreu in case we get into extra innings.

  139. Everytime the D’backs get a man on, I think the’re going to score.

  140. trublu4ever says:

    YO,,,,ADRIAN!

  141. vl4eccjr says:

    Yo Adrian!

  142. We’re now a 1/2 game behind the Cards for that wild card game.

  143. koufax1963 says:

Now thats earning your money, with Gnats winning already, it was pretty bleak, till that inning. Way to go Dodgers!

  144. 32and53fan says:

    That was a nice surprise!
