Off-Season Thoughts

With almost $50 mil coming off the books, and what looks like a sudden youth influx of good to OK talent, what do we need but a bat that isn’t named Uribe.  Who knows what this off-season may bring, but something that probably will occur is Bud Selig’s insistence that if Frank is still owner during off-season, that any money he takes out in loans or which way attainable, are used exclusively for the team. Pujols, Prince, etc. Maybe that Yu Darvish fellow? Who knows, but for now, this team rides the trains with the baggage they have, and a sudden resurgence of Loney and Ethier amongst others have helped ease the pain most have felt throughout the season.

Do we need more help in the rotation, or do we re-up with Kuroda-San, and keep the team as is. Do we go all in with the chance at luring Prince or getting a now 30 year old Pujols, who some consider is now in his decline. Maybe, just maybe we become buyers this off-season, probably buying way above value just to get people to sign. Or do we get new management, new front office brain-trusts, and lure someone with the promise of a new direction. All that assumed, can we as Dodger fans actually see a brighter future around the bend?

This Day in Dodgers History

September 5, 1955 – In an 11-4 win over the Phillies, Dodger pitcher Don Newcombe hits his seventh homer establishing a National League record for home runs by a pitcher in a season. The victory is Newk’s 20th of the season.

I think what happens to our team depends on who owns it….if Frank is still the owner, I see more of the same old junk he has fed us for years.

I do like the idea of a youth movement. Dee & Justin add some fun to the games. But, knowing the way Ned & Frank do business….one will probably play and, the other, will either be traded for an old piece of washed up crap or spend his good days in AAA. Afterall, we MUST play Uribe (Ned’s prized acquisition).

Unless of course Urectum twists a fart, or tweaks something else in next years training camp to go back on the DL.
We all know that since Navarro left, the team’s been playing better. Personally, I believe NOT having Uribe active has alot to do with their offensive improvement.

        • trublu4ever says:

Me too, vl. When Urectum was on the active roster, Donnie always found the need to play him! Just like the idea of keeping Eugenio4ever…oh, boy, he can pinch run.

  2. Nellyjune says:

When I first started reading ITD, we were all about the youth movement then, but then Ned and Joe Torre had other ideas. This year with Donnie, it started out the same way as it started out with Joe, thinking PVLs were what was needed to protect Matt and Andre and provide more pop in the lineup. Funny, how all the injuries to PVLs have shown Donnie that the kids can play and probably should’ve been playing all along. I do think ownership will play a part in where this team is headed. Where that direction is, nobody knows.

I would love for the Dodgers to end this season ahead of the gnats.

  3. trublu4ever says:

I’m not going to post it but, todays lineup sucks!

  4. vl4eccjr says:

    Matt keeps doing his thing!

  5. trublu4ever says:

    MVP,MVP, MVP!!!!!

  6. trublu4ever says:

    This umpire is awful!

  7. JhallWally says:

Rivera started off hot but hasn’t done much in the last week or so.

  8. trublu4ever says:

    F*ck!

  9. vl4eccjr says:

Well that lead was short lived. . .

  10. trublu4ever says:

Typical for Kuroda….with 2 freaking strikes too!

  11. JhallWally says:

    Shit!!! Kurpowda!!!

  12. vl4eccjr says:

Bunnynuts better bring a tourniquet out to the mound to stop the bleeding.

Wish that the above were possible, but if there is one thing that Bud Selig has shown it is that he’s not capable of “insisting” on anything, nor making anything stick that the MLB supposedly stands for. Selig and MLB have been shown up by Frank to be total limp winnies, or pussies, if one prefers that reference. The bankruptcy judge will determine all, and this game will probably go on for a long time. Good Bye the 2012 season at least and maybe longer.

  14. trublu4ever says:

I can’t believe they are bringing back Collins and Lyons…they are pathetic!

    • trublu4ever says:

Suppose you can tell I’m in a pissy mood today! 😉

      • vl4eccjr says:

Hell! Just looking at the lineup would put most in a dismal state of mind! LOL

        • trublu4ever says:

I figure if Donnie thinks Gwynn and Gordon can hit a leftie so can James and Dre!

          • JhallWally says:

Well, Ethiers’ stats over the last 2-3 years show that he doesn’t hit lefties very well. With the knee issues, probably a good idea to rest him. With Loney, I’m a bit miffed. DilDon basically took the bat out of his hands the last couple of games by having him bunt with runners on. Even though he has been the hottest hitter on the team. Donny being a dildo again. I think they need to keep Loney in there to see what he does the rest of the way as they have a big decision to make on whether to tender him this off season. Unless they have already made up their minds.

          • trublu4ever says:

Okay…I can see resting Dre but, as you say, James should be in there.

      • JhallWally says:

LOL!! I wish I could lock you and Ned in a room right now!!!

  15. trublu4ever says:

Hmmm…there are more Dodger fans at the game in Washington than at our games at the Ravine!

  16. trublu4ever says:

Nice catch Gwynn..probably saved Kuroda from another run.

  17. trublu4ever says:

    Sheeeeit!

  18. JhallWally says:

Well, didn’t take Mitchell and Gwynn long to snuff out that opportunity.

  19. vl4eccjr says:

Anyon know what Sands status is? If they could keep a ML turd like Velez, and bring up a dud like Mitchell, what gives?

  20. trublu4ever says:

We always have good questions, Jhall, but, never seem to get very good answers 😉

    • JhallWally says:

And therein lies the majority of the problem. We are assuming that the people in charge have a clue about what they are doing. It has become obvious that is not the case with NedPlug and DilDon.

  21. vl4eccjr says:

Well, after that 1st inning HR derby, Kuroda has settled down. I just hope this lineup can provide some offense to get back in this.

  22. Colliethec says:

Well I did want Uribe last offseason but I also wanted to trade for Morse & Uggla as they were both on the trading block. We sure could of used their pop this year.

I’ve been busy with work & family so not here much lately but still watching and listening to all the games I can. I’ll chime in later with moves I’d make.

  23. vl4eccjr says:

    OO-oooh that smell! (_l_) ~ ~ ~Pffffffffft! ~ ~ ~

  24. See we’re getting back to normal now.

Pathetic freakin line-up. Mitchell doesn’t belong in the bigs period, and what the hell’s Carroll doing starting? They should be evaluating Gordon and Sellers as a DP combo this entire month.

Mattingly doesn’t belong in the bigs as a manager either.

  25. And what the hell’s the point of teaching Mitchell to catch? Just so there’s one more position he can’t hit from? I’m getting tired of them always having to have guys on the team that can play just about every position [poorly.] Why in the hell can’t they actually get some guys in for that position?

    • trublu4ever says:

Mitchell claims he has caught before in instructional league. Big deal, he still can’t hit worth shit!

    • vl4eccjr says:

The only thing he would be good for is warming up relievers in the pen.

    • I guess what really pisses me off is that they’ll waste time with guys like Mitchell, trying them here and there when its obvious to everyone (well, except Nerd & Dildo) that they just aren’t that good to begin with, yet they’ll give away guys like Trayvon, and sour on guys like LaRoche without ever giving them a real chance.

Then again, everything this organization does pisses me off.

      • trublu4ever says:

Xavier Paul comes to mind too.

        • trublu4ever says:

They would rather play has-beens like Gibbons and Thames.

        • Yup. But they couldn’t give Paul a chance when they had the great Gibbons and Thames.

Nothing this freakin organization does ever makes sense. And it sure as hell doesn’t know a good ballplayer from a bad one.

Speaking of which, during their little spurt they were playing the best players. Then look at today’s line-up. Look at Dildo making Loney bunt in fron of your best hitter so they walk him. Stupidity runs rampant from top to bottom.

      • JhallWally says:

I hear ya my brother. It is frustrating how they stick with the washed up has beens or no talent schmucks like Mitchell, and don’t give guys with some potential a decent shot.

  26. trublu4ever says:

And, Miles is a LOUSY 3rd baseman, to boot!

  27. trublu4ever says:

My mood quickly has gone from pissy to dam fu*cing pissed off!

  28. trublu4ever says:

I’m hoping for a rain out tomorrow….not looking forward to the pitchng match up.

  29. trublu4ever says:

Tattoo! Sorry, but you should have started the game! But, Donnie is an idiot!

  30. Nellyjune says:

    No excuse whatsoever!!!
    .
As it stands, I’m hoping for a D-Backs/Tigers World Series.

  31. Man, I miss Alex Cora and Cesar Izturis..Couldn’t hit much, but one of the best MIF tandems this team has ever seen.

  32. grizzy says:

    I liked those two myself.

  33. grizzy says:

As long as we’re stuck with McCourt, the on field product will not be as good as it should. But if we’re rid of the jerk, I’d go after a big bat, and then pitching. I guess the next question would be where this big bat played. I’d go for third or left and keep Loney.

  34. Hi Everybody
I don’t think there’ll be much action over the winter, but the little that will happen will be big.
    Just my opinion.
