Game 1 starting lineup:
Puig, rf
Pederson, cf
Turner, 3b
Gonzalez, 1b
Kendrick. 2b
VanSlyke, lf
Hernendez, ss
Elliis, c
Kershaw, p
At least it’s not totally a right handed lineup!
Are we gonna suck against the Cubbies just because they are over .500 this year???
Come on, Let’s Go DODGERS!!!!!!
Kike puts us on the board first!
Puig is a dumb ass!
I’ve seen a lot of Dodger outfielders but I can’t remember anyone better than Pederson on defense.
He is awesome!
I’d like to see Kershaw get that 10th K and I hope the Cubs bring in a pitcher the Dodgers can hit.
See yas tomorrow night.
Well these ain’t the same doormat Cubbies the Dodgers have gotten used to over the last few years.
Two solo homers, five hits, four walks, and a big-time base running blunder. What an offense.
When is Puig going to learn not to make bone headed mistakes on the bases?
He took the bat out of Turner’s hands by getting picked off. Mattingly will handle that behind closed doors, but I wish we all could hear what went on.
Kershaw is still getting strikeouts, but he is making a lot of mistake pitches this year. I hope he gets his act together. He is not pitching like a 30 million dollar pitcher.
I saw an article on ESPN early this morning about the dingers Kershaw has been giving up. Although one of them yesterday was hanging slider, the commentators were saying his curve has not been as effective, not getting the bite, as years passed and the hitters are looking for fastballs when they get into a hitters count. No doubt other teams scout Kershaw and the word gets around about what is working against him. He’s not getting hammered, so to speak, but no run support means we’re not getting the results we’ve become used to. These are, after all, big league hitters. In a nut shell, that’s what seems to be what’s going on, right now anyway. We’ll have to take oldbrooklyn’s advice and hope this turns around soon.
It’s frustrating that the Dodgers continue to lose to teams that are playing above .500 and also on the road to almost anybody. Also we can’t feel to confident in winning the games that Kershaw and Greinke start. This can either get worse or turn around and get better. We can just hope it’s the latter.
No matter the reason, it is still quite troubling how many games the Dodgers have lost that were started by Kershaw and Greinke.
Turner’s Day Off
Puig RF
Pederson CF
Kendrick 2B
Gonzalez 1B
Grandal C
Ethier LF
Callaspo 3B
Rollins SS
Greinke P
Hector Olivera pulled his hamstring 😦
Of course he did. So now management can delay deciding if and when to bring him up to the big league club.
Greinke got out of a jam. Now can we capitalize with some offense???
Doesn’t look good so far!
That was an awesome catch by the guy bottle feeding the baby!
I guess Collapse-O is playing because he’s the only guy that can get a hit.
Hey, Dodgers…..WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One hit?
ONE MEASLEY HIT???!!!!!
So depressing!
Another Greinke type game.——Thanks to Hammel.
Another road loss.
POOF!!!
Does this seem familiar?
Yet another sterling offensive performance.
Yet another steaming pile of dung.
Giants are winning 2-0 through the seventh. Looks like tonight will be the night they draw even with us. Likely tomorrow night the Giants will be in first place.
I’ll wait until the morning for the Giants final score.
Greinke must wonder if he ever wants to re-up with this club. When do we stop calling this an offensive slump and start calling it a team that is mired in offensive boredom? Glad I didn’t listen to the game.
Hard to understand how a team with this much talent can struggle so much to score runs and win close games.
Until just recently we had the best pitcher on the planet and teams can score against him. So why is it that our team continuously gets shut out by just any journeyman that gets stuck out on the mound?
This makes no sense what-so-ever. This isn’t bad luck. These guys need to knock off the cutesy videos and turn over a few tables.
Kershaw
Greinke
Jansen
.
Maddons young ball club just beat up on some of the league’s top tier pitching.
.
What has Mattingly’s ball club done… other than change Donnie’s horseshit excuses from swinging at bad pitches… to… I trust my guys.
.
“The biggest thing that I do is trust these guys,” said Mattingly. “I trust what we’re going to be able to do. I acknowledge we haven’t been scoring consistently. But if you think I’m going to sit here and think our offense is not going to be any good and we’re not going to be good enough to win, I’m not there. I trust our guys.”
.
http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/132550918/zack-greinke-not-worried-about-dodgers-bats
.
Hold your caps everyone…we’ve shifted into trusting mode…
Other quotes from Donnie not reported (and not truly said, but just go with it):
“It’s time to be complacent. Complacent about not hitting. Complacent about losing. We don’t need to change anything, we’re just fine. I trust my guys. I trust my use of the bullpen.”
If the Dodgers end up this year in first place, they don’t have to worry about their won and lose record as they’ll be in the postseason, BUT if they don’t their won and loss record will have to be good enough to qualify for the wild card game.
So they better start winning.
Dodger musings:
I knew the cubs were good, but for them to beat us vs our kershaw /Grienke tandem, Wow! If the gnats were to play reasonable, we would be well out of 1st.
Puig:No smiles. Is he not happy or is this his new “no-nonsense approach” ?
He may be alone with uribe and hanram no longer there, and Gonzo isnt baby sitting him. NO big fault with his play (yes the pick off still is fresh) and cant single him out over anyone else, swinging at first pitches and popping up, or hitting in to DPs.
What would be like to have a lights out Bull pen. I saw one last night when teh padres played the Gnats from benoit to kimbrel they just shut the bats of the gnats up, I remember the Dodgers had that, not so long ago.
and another observation, clearly I am not intimate with the situation of anything related to Dodgers play/strategy, but I might not of put Peralta, upon his return, in such a tight game.
I think the dodgers need a vacation, return refreshed.
More of the same…Gonzalez will get hot and, after all, the Dodger offensive universe revolves around him. Or could it be that sometimes you need a new voice in the room? Mattingly’s “good guy,” “calm communicator” approach has now been in play for 4 1/2 years, after failing to land mangerial jobs with the Yankees (2007) and Indians (2010), before be handed the job by Uncle Joe and Ned in 2011, with no interview process to speak of. I’ve NEVER liked the mood of the team under his leadership. Too laid back, too whatever. I know I dump on Donnie regularly but, really, does anyone still think this is the guy to get this team over the top? Dodgers might start a 20-game winning streak today and I still wouldn’t change my mind.
Watching the Yankees game. They are up 10-0 in the top of 9. Their pitcher gives up a lead off double, RBI single and then goes 2-0 on the next hitter. The catcher goes out and talks to the pitcher. The next pitch is a double off the wall.
After that the pitching coach goes out and talks to him.
I bring this up because this/these are the little things that Donnie doesn’t do while leading his team. I don’t feel he manages. For one, IMHO based on watching him manage for the last few years, he wouldn’t of had the catcher go out and talk to the pitcher when he was struggling until a few batters later nor would he of had the pitching coach out there until 2-3 runs had scored and a couple more runners were on base.
This is an example of one of the reasons why I’m now anti Donnie. He is a nice guy and a patient guy – which can be good – but there has to be a balance. Not moving Rollins down in the order for so long or giving him a day off is another example to me.
Last night he didn’t go to KJ until the bases were loaded. He did this a few times last year with Wilson and the year before with League. I remember they couldn’t throw a strike and walked the bases loaded before anything was done either a visit by the catcher or coaching staff. I didn’t read his reasoning but my guess based on his past moves is that he didn’t want to use KJ until it was a close situation. With runners on 1st & 2nd and no outs you are in a save situation. You aren’t going to get to a save situation if you don’t bring him in there. It’s like a football coach that doesn’t want to use his challenge play on an important scoring play in the 4th quarter because then he might not have it later. That coach would be skewered.
This is what gets you eliminated during the post season – not playing to win but playing for the next inning or the next day & that is how Donnie manages. You don’t see Boche manage that way which is one of the reasons why they’ve won 3 in the last 5.
Hernandez 2B
Pederson CF
Turner 3B
Gonzalez 1B
Puig RF
Ethier LF
Grandal C
Rollins SS
Bolsinger P
Rally banana to lead off and get the offense started?
I can live with that. Too bad we still have to deal with Rollins…..at least he’s not batting behind Dre!
The way this teams offense has been sputtering. I’d of guessed Axel Foley stuck the Rally Banana up Mattingly’s tail-pipe!
LMFAO!
~ 🙂 ~
Puig scratched from lineup …. hmmm
I guess his hand hurts….boo hoo!
That’s something to write about: Turner’s 3 Run HR. An unusual event for the Dodgers.
I’ll say!
These guys have a knack for hitting home runs this season, but when will they begin to drive in runners that are in scoring position? It’s one thing to hit bombs against pitchers in the same class as Hendricks and another to hit bombs against the likes of Mad Bum and Scherzer.
.
Not that I’m giving any runs back, just sayin’!
4-0 works so far tonight
WHEW!!
Pretty scary! I hope we can drive VanSlyke in….every run is important.
Way to go Joc!
Nice that Peralta was able to come back tonight and get his job done.
It probably saved Donnie’s job!
In that case, I wish Peralta blew it again tonight.
We won this one.
well played game, putting nicasio in,gets hit by the righty, donnie leaves him in, face lefty ( nicasio is like 300 BA with lefties) gets him out, so what is the big deal of the L/R match up?
saw puig smiling in the dug out was refreshing! bolsinger with the double saved that inning , well done!!
Nice throw by Scott Van Slyke to end the game.
So this team can put together a complete game.
Holy shit….we will be lucky to get 2 runs today:
Kike, cf
Howie, 2b
Justin, 1b
Scott, lf
Yasiel, rf
Alex, 3b
Jimmy, ss
AJ, c
Frias, p
Frias is a loose canon out there too….which to me, doesn’t look promosing!
Another all-righty lineup against the lefty Lester. Led by the slumping Kendrick in the 2-hole. Also featuring AJ (no-hit) Ellis as catcher. Yep, another yawner. Way to build on yesterday’s momentum, DonnieBoy!
Not a good way to attack a must win situation trying to hold on to first place.
Puig Scratched – New Lineup
Hernandez CF
Rollins SS
Turner 1B
Van Slyke RF
Kendrick 2B
Guerrero LF
Callaspo 3B
Ellis C
Frias P
I don’t know how, but somehow the lineup just got worse compared to the one above that Tru posted. Puig out (probably because of his blister – no comment). Collapse-0 in. Guerrero moves to left field, where his defense is worse. Rollins moves back up to the 2-hole, not sure why. Kendrick in the 5-hole to take Puig’s place.
Good grief!
It’s a lot worse.
BUT Ya nevaknow.
Hey Howie! 2-Run Double! Way to go! That’s hitting with the bases-loaded!
Guerrero and Collapse-0 foil the rally by both striking out with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Geez. Just hit the ball already.
we will take what wildness lester has, Kendrick good job, would of been nice if AG or callapso would of singled in the first
Kike with the RBI triple! I like the extra base hits!
Rollins cashes in Kike! Way to go! Jimmy gettin’ it done today!
Keep it going now! Frias needs more run support!
Ummmmmm…what’s that rule? Don’t make the third out at third base? Don’t they teach that in little league anymore? In high school? In the minors? In the Phillies organization?
Dumb ass! With Frias we need all the runs we can get!
you know J-roll got it going, the attempt steal? is a positive sign, even though it didnt work. that inning could of gone nothing, but at 4-0 Im loving it
He was already in scoring position with two outs. Don’t need to get to third base. What he did effectively was (1) take the bat out of Kendrick’s hands with two ducks on the pond, and (2) hand the Cubbies a free out. We only get 27 outs to play with.
He’s running on Lester.
It helps that the bottom of the Cubbies order is as inept as ours. David Ross = AJ Ellis
Cubbies helping Frias with the double plays. So far so good. But we could still use more run support.
So far this lineup has luckily scored 4 runs. Hopefully it can score more since no lead seems safe these days.
WOW Coghlan was out from me to you as Vinnie would say.
with lester out of the game, will JOC, GOnzo and Dre enter?
The defensive priority would be to bring in Joc in CF, then shift Kike to LF and get Guerrrero off the field.
Of course not…..that’s the problem with an all righty lineup!
I like the way Frias pitched out of that.
Frias got out of a 5th inning jam by himself with two k’s. Donnie needs to install the better defense.
Did you ever wonder when was the last time we successfully stole a base? Yeah? Me too! It’s been like forever!
The last time was 2 1/2 weeks ago. On June 7th, Andre Eithier stole second base against the Cardinals when Tony Cruz was their catcher.
I’m not sure, but I think that’s pathetic. Especially in the National League.
Finally got the defensive change I suggested.
Triple for Turner! Triple for Turner! Triple for Turner!
Six more outs to get.
And the Dodgers go quietly against another nameless pitcher……….
We needed that one with the Giants leading 7-0.
Very impressive! with the way this series began, I was sure the Dodgers would be swept, but not getting too optimistic, but the team really turned a corner in these last two games.
Considering the starting line up, well done, all around!
I have to admit, I’m pleasantly surprised. I had very low expectations with this lineup going against Lester today.
Kudos to the bullpen!
Madden surely like to moved his players around a lot. I bet Denorfia and Coghlan are tried of switching position.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/los-angeles-dodgers-chicago-cubs-350625116/
Another nice job by the bullpen!
What goes on? Two good games in a row.

Friedman has said the Dodgers are actively talking to other teams about starters. I think we’ll get one, I just wonder who we’ll have to give up to get it done.
When I left my house to go out to eat the Giant/Padre score was 9-5, I got really excited when I got to the restaurant, a sports bar, and saw the score was 9-8. Well we all know how it came out but that’s just one of the reasons I love this game.
