Nice to see he’s still icing Crawford.

Does this mean that even in the playoffs he’s going with his RH line-up against lefties instead of the best players? Its worked out swell so far.

  2. koufax1963 says:

I see SVS gets the nod, must be facing the Lefty today. Hmmm.
Of course the Cubs want to be a spoiler. Just like the ROX were to us, like the snakes tried to be for the gnats, but the gnats elevated and pulled out 2 Wins, on close games.

  3. Dodger4life says:

It’s gonna be another tequila game for this kid today…I just shelled out more money fixing my truck than it’s worth…But, heck…the next time I go to the post-office, 4 blocks away…she’s gonna purr like a kitten, all the way there and back…
    .
I’m calling it now…Both Charlie and I, shall be busy calling shots tonight…

    That ball was right

    It looks to be…

    Nope, stuck in the ivy…
    Another classic Wrigley Field
    Double-shot, folks…

I’m confident Charlie’s version will be much better…In fact, I now find myself, rooting for Charlie’s home-run calls…

  5. kahliforni says:

Gnats off today. A Dodger loss brings No. Cal. to within one game in the loss column. I’ve been a Dodger fan since ’69, and I just don’t “feel it” this season.

  6. messagebear says:

I haven’t much “felt it” since the Guggenheims took over. Seemed too much like “buying it” – no wonder I’m half delighted when it isn’t working. Then keeping and rewarding Ned and Donnie didn’t much help either.

  7. crash24now says:

It’s the eighth anniversary of the 4+1 game. Maybe that will help us cut the magic number to eight tonight.

  8. oldbrooklynfan says:

These games are like going to Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Around and around she goes and where she stops nobody knows. If you really know how this game will turn out tonight, or this series, or the next series for that matter, well you’re a better man than I am.

  9. lbirken says:

I still say this is all on the players. At the moment I don’t care about ownership.

  10. trublu4ever says:

    Uh, oh!

  11. oldbrooklynfan says:

Right back where we started from. I hope we don’t have deja’vu.

  12. oldbrooklynfan says:

    WHEW!!!

  13. lbirken says:

Not good when the #2 guy struggles. The thing about the Dodgers this season that bothers me most is the inability to build or sustain momentum. The 6 game lead of a few weeks ago went to two, back to 4 but now in danger of dropping again. The big series against the Giants was followed by a horrible series against Colorado. Where would this team be without Kershaw?

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Birk, I really think this is all on Donnie. I really feel a team plays to the personality of its manager, and Donnie has the personality of a turnip. His constant jumbling of the line-up. His first half of the season playing people out of position. His constant insistence on a RH line-up against LH pitchers even though it hasn’t worked all year. His hair brain use of the bullpen. Ill advised bunts. His total lack of understanding of in game strategies and anticipating his and his opponents next move. I honestly feel any other manager would have at least an 8 game lead with this team, maybe more. And I do mean ANY other manager.

      • trublu4ever says:

        I agree 100%

      • lbirken says:

I don’t know if you are right or wrong but I understand how the manager is in the spotlight and why you think think this way. I just look at all the strike outs, the lack of so called clutch hitting and all the runners left on base and wonder why. Is this on the manager too? I suppose it is if the team fails to win.

        • enchantedbeaver says:

All team’s players are going to fail at least a league average amount of the time. Its inevitable. But Donnie’s teams execute so poorly, they appear to make failure a religion. I doubt 2/3 of the team can perform basic baseball fundamentals, and that’s on Donnie and his coaching staff. I’d bet that only 2-3 players know what their rolls on the team are. Can’t build any kind of continuity either with a line-up that changes everyday injury or no. What manager in his right mind takes out his hottest hitter (Crawford) down the stretch in favor or a line-up that hasn’t done squat all year? Hell, even Vinny questions his in game decisions. And his ill use of the bully is well documented.

When this team gets to the playoffs, and it will, just watch how outmanaged he gets by the opponents manager. Donnie’s solely dependent on Kershaw, Greinke and Ryu to get him through the playoffs and if one falters, he’ll go down like a house of cards.

  14. griz says:

Floating around out there at the Hyperion.

  15. griz says:

Good inning, Boys!!! That’s showing them!!!!!

  16. oldbrooklynfan says:

If you ask me, I’d say the Dodgers were really pressing in that inning. I think they gave it away. I think they were trying too hard.

  17. griz says:

The Del-Tones look as inspired as the heart of our order.

  18. oldbrooklynfan says:

Well at least we got the run.

  19. 32and53fan says:

On any given day, any team can beat any other team. I hope the next four games are not given to the Cubs.
So far, it’s not looking too good.

  20. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Greinke isn’t fooling anybody.

  21. lbirken says:

And to add.to.what bothers is now often it seems the Dodgers score runs on plays that result in an out rather than a hit.

  22. lbirken says:

And the difficulty to overcome deficits. There, I am done complaining. I just expected more from this team.

  23. trublu4ever says:

Now, they have a righty in there…how long before we see CC? Or, Dre? or Joc?

  24. kahliforni says:

The team seems disconnected. It’s been implied all year. Now it’s bubbling to the surface…little dugout spats…newspaper columns. It’s true, it’s on the players. But sports is an emotional game. Without the fire of comradery it’s hard to get up for a game.

    • lbirken says:

Makes me wonder again about the Donnie contract debacle after the season ended last year. Not so much that he was resigned but how it happened. I can’t help but think some in positions of power were not sure what to do.

  25. Dodger4life says:

    Big-Guns
    .
    Work your magic…
    .

  26. oldbrooklynfan says:

I’d say at the moment the Dodgers are feeling pressure. I think it shows in their play.

  27. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Looking good.

  28. oldbrooklynfan says:

    We are tied at 4.

  29. oldbrooklynfan says:

    6-4 Dodgers!!!

  30. oldbrooklynfan says:

I was so busy watching the game I forgot to comment. I might say I was a little in shock.

  31. lbirken says:

Wow, the boys had quite an inning. Interesting how Dre and Crawford impacted this he. Now it is up to the pen.

  32. Dodger4life says:

It’s up to the bullpen to kick this thing into the win column now…

  33. nedisajerk says:

Dang D4life you changing avatar like Tracy change relievers lol

  34. oldbrooklynfan says:

Good eye by Butera to make it 7-4

  40. trublu4ever says:

    Whew!

  41. trublu4ever says:

Early game today. Hope Kersh has his stuff and the boys give him some run support.

  42. koufax1963 says:

OK, Last Night, Grienke’s pitching didn’t give donnie a chance to make a mistake. So pat on the back to donnie for his choice of Pinch hittters, turner and Dre come up big. Crawford should have been in from inning 1. So that was impressive.
Yea dodgers control their destiny, but they need help, in so many way I dont even want to start.
Last night the Dee Gordon pick off just frosted me.

  45. oldbrooklynfan says:

Here we go. Can clinch playoff berth today.

  46. crash24now says:

It’s been 46 years since an NL pitcher was chosen as the MVP.

  47. oldbrooklynfan says:

    YES!!!!

  48. oldbrooklynfan says:

Nice comfortable start with Kershaw going today.

  49. koufax1963 says:

Im at work. Gamedaying it. Nice start. although there was a “injury delay” on game day; Are all our Dodgers safe and healthy?

  50. crash24now says:

Dodgers hang a 4-spot on Edwin Jackson (so far).

Matt Kemp is back in Beast Mode (at least with the bat).

  51. trublu4ever says:

    WOW!

  52. oldbrooklynfan says:

    HR #2 for A.J. Can’t believe a 6-0 lead and Clayton hasn’t even thrown a pitch yet.

  53. crash24now says:

    AJ!!!!

That closes the books on Edwin Jackson – a 5-spot.

Don’t ya just love it when the big innings go in our favor?

  54. Dodger4life says:

I’ve always been a fan of pitchers…from before I can even remember…back when I was about 3 [I’m guessing], my father taught me the everyday line-up…He would usually ask me to announce the days players…I’d get 8 out of 9 correct…My pitcher was always Drysdale…He’d try to correct me…but, I never caught on. After that, as I grew older, it was Sutton…but the two that stick out in my mind are Valenzuela and Hershiser…The thrill and suspense of him chasing, then surpassing, Drysdale’s record…will always be one of the most cherished moments in my memory bank. Kershaw is certainly going to be another. [Koufax retired when I was just an infant.]

  55. oldbrooklynfan says:

The long wait may be affecting Kershaw.

  56. crash24now says:

Don’t ya just hate it when the big innings go against us?

  57. oldbrooklynfan says:

It didn’t take the Cubs long to cut the lead in half. I hope Kersh settles down now.

  58. oldbrooklynfan says:

I was just thinking of Ellis hitting another one (believe me). He’s got a lot of catching up to do.

  59. crash24now says:

AJ needs to play more day games.

  60. oldbrooklynfan says:

Nice to see Clayton looking better.

  61. Dodger4life says:

I stepped out for a sec…Y’all say,” A.J. hit another one out!” Awesome!!

  62. crash24now says:

Kershaw has 64 pitches through 3 innings of work. Clearly, this isn’t his best day. But he does seem to have settled down a bit. If he can pitch through the seventh inning, that’s probably the best we can hope for.

  63. oldbrooklynfan says:

Amazingly, no fault of his own, the sun (Kemp) and misjudgement by Crawford, Kershaw got out of that inning without a run scoring.
    Awesome.

  64. oldbrooklynfan says:

Looks like it for Kersh with the 5 run lead.

  65. crash24now says:

Kershaw continues to labor with about 20 pitches per inning. Donnie needs to take him out soon to save his strength for the Giants game on Wednesday.

    Can the bullpen pull through????????

  66. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Great shot by Yasiel.

  67. enchantedbeaver says:

Looks like the Cubs pitching is in the Schlitter.

  68. crash24now says:

Menu for a successful Dodgers offense from now through end of October –

Dee triples or single plus steal
Puig single, double, triple or the occasional HR
Gonzalez does his butter n egg thing
    Kemp continues his hot streak
Hanley stays healthy, needs to get hot
Crawford – Donnie – keep playing him, he’s hot
Uribe contributes like he has all year
    AJ with a few bombs

This could be great! (If only we could play the rest of our games at Wrigley with the wind blowing out)

  69. crash24now says:

    Dodgers: Two Touchdowns
    Cubs: One field goal

  70. oldbrooklynfan says:

    1….7…3

  71. crash24now says:

Magic Number is down to seven

  72. lbirken says:

How quickly this series turned around for the Dodgers. With Kershaw and Greinke spots done, will the boys finally be able to build some momentum to finish strong?

  73. griz says:

Got to watch today on WGN and realized Kershaw is human? Sort of felt bad for Edwin Jackson. He was one of ours once.

    • nedisajerk says:

You shouldn’t be and he’s beat us back in LA and the Giants pounded him his next start causing him to go on the DL.

  74. trublu4ever says:

Brewers lost…we are in! Giants are losing right now….even better!

  75. nedisajerk says:

    Down to 6.

    Jerry Hairston (2012-2013)
    Aaron Miles (2011)
    Tony Abreu (2007)
    Kenny Lofton (2006)

    Brent Mayne (2004)
    Jolbert Cabrera (2003)

    Sam Leslie (1933-1935)
    Lefty O’Doul (1932-1933)

  76. oldbrooklynfan says:

Good to get an early game in. I hope there aren’t any rain delays. I’d rather see the game called early and play two tomorrow.

  77. oldbrooklynfan says:

Good start, AGon launches a 2 run shot.

  78. oldbrooklynfan says:

Roberto not looking too good giving up that HR to Coghlan.

  79. oldbrooklynfan says:

I knew it, I had the feeling, AGon is ripping it.

  80. oldbrooklynfan says:

Even with the 5 run lead I’m not to comfortable with Hernandez in there, at the moment.

  81. oldbrooklynfan says:

I think if he keeps the ball low in the strike zone, he’ll do very good.

  82. lbirken says:

I wonder if a team has gone to post season play with both starting and back up catchers hitting under .200.

  83. trublu4ever says:

Once again, Henandez is losing it!

  84. oldbrooklynfan says:

Not looking good with Rizzo up there.

  85. oldbrooklynfan says:

Hernandez was navigating pretty well but it may be better to have Paco instead.

  86. oldbrooklynfan says:

Magnificent catch by Puig and double play.

  87. trublu4ever says:

    WOW…PUIG JUST SAVED OUR BUTTS!

  88. oldbrooklynfan says:

I generally don’t make a big deal out of these outfield diving catchers but the situation and the throw to the cut off man (by Puig) was something (I think) to brag about.

  89. oldbrooklynfan says:

This looks like a good pitching change by Mattingly.

  90. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Nice going Baez.

  91. oldbrooklynfan says:

J.P.’s having trouble this inning in a 7-3 game.

  92. oldbrooklynfan says:

WOW I didn’t expect that 3 run homer by Alcantara. Just what we didn’t need to happen.

  93. griz says:

Never dull with our bullpen. You can never have enough runs, doesn’t matter who is out there.

  94. griz says:

Lovely. Wilson comes in and so does my nuts mother-in-law and the whole thing goes to hell both here and in Chicago.
    *
We are in the playoffs, so I guess it’s OK to say we are out loud, but I can’t see how we’re going to navigate through those good teams with these guys. Can’t blame the offense. They have been scoring.

  95. lbirken says:

Wow, how quickly things have changed in this game.

  96. oldbrooklynfan says:

I think they should remove Wilson before it’s too late.

  97. griz says:

Somebody please go out there and get Wilson while we’re only down one.

  98. oldbrooklynfan says:

It’s up to Puig, Gonzalez and Kemp.

  99. oldbrooklynfan says:

It looked like we had this game in the bag…but we lost.

  100. kahliforni says:

Every pitcher except Baez was horrible today.

  101. griz says:

Part of me can’t believe this crap and another part is not surprised. Just when you think they are starting to get a handle on the race, someone tries to give it back.

  102. oldbrooklynfan says:

I just hope the team doesn’t take this loss to heart. It’s tough to lose after taking a 5 run lead but they just have to turn the page, as they say. Tomorrow’s another day and we’re still in first place.

  103. Disappointing loss today. The merry-go-round that is Dodger baseball continues.

  104. enchantedbeaver says:

Three things are highly evident when it comes to Donnieboy. 1. He still doesn’t believe relievers can throw more than one inning. Ever. 2. He’ll let a struggling pitcher hang out there way too long hoping they’ll “find it.” 3. He still hasn’t learned Wilson is not a set-up man nor even a good pitcher.

  105. messagebear says:

I hate the f***ing Beard; I’ve always hated the Beard.
I hope they don’t keep the f***ing Beard on the playoff roster.
I’d like to shoot the f***ing Beard!

  106. oldbrooklynfan says:

We really came close to winning another big game en route to the NL West crown but we just couldn’t hold on to the 5 run lead and we lost. Well better luck tomorrow. GO Padres, tonight.

  107. koufax1963 says:

I liked the early game before the gnats play, a win puts extra pressure on them, not today. You know, this BP has vetran guys that have delivered, but all year they just havent had it, at the trade deadline the focus shifted to Beckett and haren and what should we do, hernandez and correia were the call, and the freaking, stinking BP remained, and JP Howell has become worse.
roll it up and forget about this one, but this really has shades of the Washington Afternoon extra inning game the dodgers lost, and it is painful. GO Padres!

  108. lbirken says:

Not much more to say about today’s game. Hard to accept another come from ahead loss but what else can we do but look forward to tomorrow. I can only imagine how Donnie feels after a game like this.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

After a series of poor managing decisions, if last October is any indication, I imagine Donnie’s probably feeling he should get another contract extension.

  109. kahliforni says:

Hate the Beard…but the three-run homer, with two outs, served up by JP was the killer. Suddenly, Dodger pitching is a real Achilles heel. How in hell will they navigate the playoffs when they can depend on NO ONE in the pen, except Jansen?

    • lbirken says:

Signing Wilson seemed like such a good idea after last season and my guess is he had other offers. But clearly things have not worked out as anyone thought.

      • kahliforni says:

lbirk, the funny thing is, I still love the Beard. When push comes to shove in the playoffs, I still think he’s got the best mental approach of anyone in the pen, including Jansen. If he could just somehow summon his stuff/mechanics. His pitches just seemed so blah today. He was lights out having to pitch only one month last season. It looks like a big toll has been taken on him pitching the full six-month season.

  110. oldbrooklynfan says:

Hi ya folks, I went out to eat and a birthday party and I’m back. it looks good so far with the Pards leading 3-0 in the bottom of the 8th. I hope I don’t jinx them.

  111. oldbrooklynfan says:

Maybe I should turn off the T.V.

  112. oldbrooklynfan says:

    This is not looking good.

  113. oldbrooklynfan says:

    YES. Magic # is 5.

  114. oldbrooklynfan says:

I took today’s game pretty good, I mean the loss didn’t bother me that much.
Coming home on a bus though, I think I was mentally breaking down a little. I can’t explain it.
Now watching the top of the ninth, I was somewhat shaky.
Now that the Padres won I feel normal again.
    Tomorrow’s another game.
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  115. koufax1963 says:

OBF I so admire you! GIants came close to a win but were held off. Lucky Us! Cashner was great. one batter too many, but their closer made it a “torture” just like wilson, I am so pissed at wilson, …..
GO Dodgers! a win tomorrow is imperative put the heat on the gnats, and swat them to oblivion!

  116. oldbrooklynfan says:

If anyone thinks they know how this thing will end up, he or she is crazy or a genius .

  117. griz says:

I see the Pads helped us out last night. Still disgusted with yesterday’s game and that debacle with the Nats. We should have a lead now the giants would not be able to overcome in the series with them. I think we’ll win the division in spite of the bullpen, but it’s going to take some super human efforts from Kershaw and Greinke to advance. Haren is going to give it his best, that we know, but it’s doubtful he’ll be able to go deep enough in his start to keep the pen on the bench.

  118. Dodger4life says:

I missed the game yesterday…it was blacked-out in my area. I will also miss the game today, or part of it, as I have an early dinner date with my youngest daughter…
    .
    Go Dodgers, Go…

    • Dodger4life says:

I see Howell, who has been solid all year…had a few hiccups. It happens…bad timing as it is… The Beard, will be the Beard…whatever that is these days…

      • Dodger4life says:

My thoughts on Haren.. If all the planets align, including the one the umpire is calling the game from…he will give us a good chance to be successful…if not…well, as grizz says, it could be a short outing…
        .
Meaning…Haren will either throw a great game…or get touched early. I’m gonna guess, good Haren will show up.

Now that my truck is running well again…and needing to escape for a bit…I’ve been kicking the idea around of maybe catching the team play in person…That was until I found out what the price would be to make this a reality…Not to mention the 32 hour round trip…Maybe after a long cold winter, I’ll be willing to trek through some snow and see them in Arizona…

  121. oldbrooklynfan says:

All I want to say is…………….GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!

  122. oldbrooklynfan says:

MVP oh I mean AGon puts us on top 1-0.

  123. oldbrooklynfan says:

    HAMRAM makes it 2-0.

  124. oldbrooklynfan says:

Now we’ll see what Jamey has to offer.

  125. oldbrooklynfan says:

Coghlan cut the lead in half.

  126. oldbrooklynfan says:

Too bad this didn’t happen yesterday in the top of the ninth.

  127. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Hanley not husling.

  128. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Alcantara makes it 4-2.

  129. oldbrooklynfan says:

Maybe if the Cubs can keep it close we won’t have to worry about blowing a big lead. (LOL) Just kidding.

  130. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Puig is physically inhuman. Unhurtable.

  131. oldbrooklynfan says:

He proves it running around third to come in to score on Kemp’s hit.

  132. lbirken says:

Kemp is starting to look like the player we all hoped for this season.

  133. oldbrooklynfan says:

How quickly the tying run comes to the plate.

  134. oldbrooklynfan says:

That didn’t take long, 5-4 now.

  135. oldbrooklynfan says:

Frias has shown us everything he has. Good and Bad.

  136. lbirken says:

This pitching by committee is a tough way to win a game and hopefully it will work.

  137. oldbrooklynfan says:

Good to see SVS come through. 6-4.

  138. Another RBI for Matty – 7 to 4.

  139. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Oh oh bases loaded.

  140. enchantedbeaver says:

I just don’t get Mattingly. Perez throws a good inning. You didn’t have to bat for him. So why not let him try going another inning and maybe save some wear and tear on an already taxed bullpen that’s going to have to fly cross country and get used extensively again tomorrow?

  141. lbirken says:

Perez and Paco get the job done.

  142. oldbrooklynfan says:

I liked that AB by Pederson

  143. oldbrooklynfan says:

    I hope we don’t have deja’vu here.

  144. nedisajerk says:

I wish Saxon would shut his mouth up.

  145. oldbrooklynfan says:

    8-5 on Uribe’s hit.

  146. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Finger’s crossed.

  147. lbirken says:

Kenley could have gone to a movie ny the time he got into this game.

  148. lbirken says:

I am.sire the Dodgers have had enough of Coghlan.

  149. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Maybe they should walk Rizzo.

  150. oldbrooklynfan says:

Game’s over and the 4s are up.

  151. enchantedbeaver says:

Kenley just wanted to make it interesting there at the end.

  152. lbirken says:

Good finish to this game. Hopefully the bats will still be alive at Dodger Stadium to finish off the division.

  153. oldbrooklynfan says:

I see the Padres just lowered out magic # to 3.

  154. kahliforni says:

And with six games left in the season…TV!!!!!!! Helluva job, there TWC and LAD. And helluva job, Pods. Thanks for the sweep.

  155. nedisajerk says:

We just had to give the Cubs that game yesterday man 2 would’ve been a lot better.

  156. Dodger4life says:

It sure is nice to come home and see the Boy’s won today…
    .
    Nice Job!!

I can’t believe I miss 5 no I didn’t that game on Saturday was just terrible.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

It’s hard to believe I remember guys like Billy Cox. He was sort of like Mark Ellis, didn’t hit much for average but was good in the clutch. He never made it to the ’55 team but I’ll always remember him in the infield with Reese, Robinson and Hodges. Snider and Furillo were the best in the outfield of that time. Pafko for a few years was in left.

      • messagebear says:

I remember all of those guys, and actually thought that Billy Cox complemented the rest of the starting nine greatly – he was quite good with the glove, but probably wasn’t what you would think of a third baseman to day, with power. Those were the days when Channel 9, I believe, showed a lot of the games. That was what really addicted me to the Dodgers. I never got to Ebbets Field from Jersey except for one double-header, another thing that you don’t see much scheduled today except in emergency makeup games. The Dodgers won both ends of it with the same 7-2 score against the Braves (Boston at the time). I believe Newk pitched one of the games; maybe Erskine the other.

Glad to see the Padres can be tough on somebody besides the Dodgers. Now there is no way for the giants to get out of Los Angeles in first place, they will have to sweep and get help from the rocks. As shaky as things get at times, I don’t think that will happen.

  159. JhallWally says:

Woo-Hoo, ugly win…. I’ll take it…… Get’em any way you can… C’mon Ryu, get healthy….. We are going to need you to win a WS…….

One more win against the Giants and the Dodgers will clinch a tie.
