Can’t believe it’s already been a year since Yasiel’s arrival. Here is our winning lineup for tonight:
Dee
Dre
Yasiel
Hanley
Adrian
Matt
Chone
Drew
Dan
And, today, Puig was named NL Player of the Month.
Turner’s been swinging a pretty decent bat lately, so of course Dummie sits him in favor of Sultan of Not.
I know. Don’t understand it either.
Dummie being dumb. Not so hard to understand. I just don’t know why he’s still here.
Donnie likes to play lefty/righty.
G’nats getting clobbered 8-3 through 7 innings by the Reds.
What, no more panties?
Happy Anniversary to Puig.
That was a really quick 2-0 deficit.
Haren ….. wtf!
The Cards just lost, that’s good for the Dodgers even though no one’s interested in the Wild Card right now.
Nice going Dee.
G’nats lost. Now back to this one.
They got that run back rather quickly.
How is it night after night after night these “superstars” can’t hit mediocre pitching? Time to fire McGuire. Whatever he’s preachin’ they ain’t coming to the sermon.
I agree. Even Puig gets hitting tips elsewhere 🙂
And the deficit gets bigger.
Dee, Dre and Agon better get their shit together!
…and Hanley…and Kemp…
….to me the only solution is get rid of Donnie. They won’t fire the entire team!
Good news: Rockies lost again.
Bad news….so are we!
It has always been my understanding that there is only so much a hitting coach can do. The Dodgers have had hitting issues for as long as I can remember and I cannot even name the hitting coach McGuire replaced. I can understand it if the hitting coach or any coach cannot connect with the players but I doubt this is an issue. So I don’t think getting rid of McGuire will make much of a difference. The problem is most of the Dodgers hitters are good mistake hitters but not very good at making adjustments.
I think all of Mattingly’s different lineups is the real problem. Not smooth running … nobody seem to know each others tendencies.
I do think that contributes as well.
Dave Hansen.
Before that it was Mattingly.
Enough said.
McGwire hit lots of homers because of the steriods, not because he was a good hitter. As a career .263 hitter, he was slightly above average, which corresponds to the current hitting of Dee, Dre, Hanley, AGon, and Kemp.
Mattingly, similarly, was a Yankee, but he was never a winner.
Phew….we stink!
It’s nice of us to give the pitcher his first win of the season.
The guy’s lost like 14-15 games in a row until tonight.
Been doing that a lot lately.
Only difference between last night and tonight is that the Sox aren’t helping.
How in hell is this team over .500?
We got lucky and faced a lousy Dbacks team a lot.
Yup. That plus Beckett’s no-no.
Kemp,Figgins and Butera
Let’s go !!!!!!!
And take Hanley and Dre with you!!!
Go where?
0-7 w RISP 12 LOB so far.
Also 6 hits and 7 walks.
Just can’t get those runners home.
That’s All Folks
I’d like to say our team stinks, but that would be an insult to stink everywhere.
Vinny – And, the Dodgers roll over.
Its all they ever do. You can bet the farm if they’re down going into the 9th, even if its by a run, they’ll lose.
The top six in the lineup less Puig were 1-20 tonight. That ain’t no way to run a railroad. The offense is so bad right now that Donnie might as well do a “shake it up” lineup tomorrow, such as:
Figgins lf
Puig rf
Turner 3b
Pederson cf
Guerrero 2b
Van Slyke 1b
Arruebarrena ss
FedEx c
Beckett p
The result couldn’t be any worse than that of tonight.
You know, they should bring up Joc and put Arruebarrena and SVS in, and make the so-called stars EARN their positions back.
@BillShaikin
#Dodgers top prospect Joc Pederson yanked from game for “lack of effort,”
Must be ready for that call up. That fits right in with the big club.
I call bullshit on Shalkin. What this really means is that there is a lack of effort in LA. To rectify the situation, they pulled Joc from the game, so he can fly to LA.
We’re waiting (as in when are these guys going to start to play ball).
Unacceptable… We’ve got all these overpaid so called star players, and, they aren’t doing shit…. It is time to rethink this whole mess…. Fire Dildon and Nedcompoop first… Then trade Crawford and Kemp. Do not extend Hanley….. You will regret it….
Dildon-agree, Ned-agree, Crawford-agree, Kemp-agree, Hanley-agree.
We’ve got the starting pitching, but we don’t have the defense to go with it. Bring up Joc as the center-fielder and move Ethier to lf. Let Arruebarrena have shortstop. Trade Hanley, Kemp, and Crawford for a top-notch catcher who can hit, play defense, and manage the pitchers.
I’m hearing Matt is not a happy camper. It’s going to come to a boiling point when CC comes back. Even though I don’t care too much for Carl, we were winning when he, Dre and Puig were in the outfield. I really believe if we don’t turn things around ASAP, Donnie will be shown the door.
I hate to say it this early in the year, but here goes. Maybe the best thing for the Dodgers long-term is to have a terrible season, not go to the playoffs, and have the Guggenheims get all upset and fire Ned and Donnie. Which is what they should have done within ten days after buying the team.
What’s Kemp got to complain about? He plays and hits like shit and still collects $20M a year. I’d venture a guess that there aren’t but maybe a couple teams out there that would even give him a sniff on the trade market.
In fact, save Kersh & Greinke, the whole friggin team is untradeable given their contracts vs. their production.
Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock…this team, this year, has been about as much fun as watching the second hand spin on a dial clock.
We’ve got a little ways to go ’til the trading deadline, and if the team has not gotten on track by then it should be necessary to start making some/all of the moves mentioned above. I don’t feel as strongly as a lot of you regarding the players or management but if this crap continues on the field by July’s end something needs to happen. The payroll could damn near erase the national deficit and they can’t consistently score.
Griz, I can guarantee that if we’re playing the same way at the trade deadline that Ned will still be a buyer rather than a seller. Not once, no matter how crappy or far out this team had been at the deadline has Ned ever been a seller, including the year we got Dotel.
What with the two wild cards, we would have to be way below .500 to convince Kasten, and therefore, Ned, to be a seller.
Last night was a bad night because we lost and couldn’t make up any ground on the other teams, but the good news was that the Rockies, Cardinals and Giants also lost, so the Dodgers didn’t lose any ground.
Guess who else isn’t happy? Bleacher Report claims is our one and only Hanley.
What they, the Times and any other media outlet should be reporting on are the FANS not being happy.
Hanley can go F himself.
The media always looks out for their own. The Times should have a daily front page headline about the travesty of keeping the LA fan base away from the National Treasure named Vin Scully.
The angst is getting pretty strong in here. As it should. On the night of May 1st, we were 17-12 and 1/2 game out of first place. Following the double-win in the Twins doubleheader, we are 14-17. We’ve just been wallowing around in the muck.
Lineup against lefty John Danks (3-5)
Gordon 2B
Puig RF
Ramirez SS
Gonzalez 1B
Kemp LF
Van Slyke CF
Turner 3B
Butera C
Beckett P
I seem to sense that this may be the summer of our discontent…
Depending on how you want to look at it though – sadly because all the other teams are even worse, or encouragingly because as bad as they are playing they’re still better than most, our boys actually have the 4th best winning pct. in the NL.
R.I.P. Don Zimmer.
Yes, I heard about it on MLB Network. My condolences to the Zimmer Family.
I remember him when he first played for the Dodgers when I first became a fan and his career as a coach and manager.
I always liked Zimmer, no matter the team.
I also remember him fondly.
Sorry to hear about Zim, a good, smart baseball man and not afraid to mix it up. I still get a kick out of the way he went after Pedro Martinez. A lot of the credit Torre got for the success the Yankees had could have gone to his bench coach Zimmer.
I don’t think the Dodgers should bunt with Gordon on first. They should let him steal second first. Bad move by Puig.
I agree.
Popeye RIP
May I ask a question?
Why would you ever have Puig bunt? In the first inning? With a fast runner on first? What a waste of an AB. Whether that was called or whether Puig did it his own, the poor display of baseball sense is astounding.
Vinny was shocked too! Me, I used a F-bomb! 🙂
I almost follow the game anymore just to see how big the next gaffe is going to be.
And you might as well. These guys play baseball like the F Troop.
That, they do! I scare the hell out of my dogs with all my swearing.
Great AB by Kemp. Really made him work.
I really think he is itching for a trade.
By the way, the Giants committed three errors tonight and, still won the game. That’s what happens when you are hot.
They’re just a better ballclub right now by far. They play as a team, and Bochy’s able to get a lot more out of a club that has 2/3 the talent of ours. On the other hand, Mattingly takes a talented team and gets far less than the sum of its parts.
Dodger pitchers are giving up a lot of HRs
I hope that isn’t the game.
I don’t know why that came out in block letters.
Danks sucks, but these guys make him look like an all-star. I’ve never seen a team (except ours over the years) that can consistently go out night after night and not hit a lick.
The guy last night hadn’t even won a game. That’s how bad we are.
I don’t think it matters who pitches against us. None of these assholes can hit.
Well, isn’t that peachy keen …. down 2 now!
Probably the game.
Dunn’s closing in on 500 HRs.
SSDD – Same Shit, Different Day
Love it!
They ought to bat Kemp 9th. Maybe a little public embarrassment would help. Nothing else does.
This team lacks a leader… the teams attitude as a whole is less than enthusiastic. They mope their way through a ballgame. If Beckham would have made 2 errors, instead of 3 errors, on the ground ball A-Gon hit, he would have still been able to throw him out. A-Gon was halfway to first before he decided to hustle. Kemp, has no clue at the plate.
Isn’t that Mattingly’s job?
A lot of baserunning.
Like I’ve always said, these guys couldn’t score in a women’s prison holding a fistful of pardons.
🙂
So Beckett has runners at first and third and Dunn at the plate. I go fart around for maybe 4-5 minutes max, and not only has Beckett gotten out of the inning, our great hitters have already been up and out again.
At this point, what have they got to lose by bringing up Pederson? Not a damn one of these guys play like they have a pulse.
It won’t matter who they bring up or who they decide to trade for, if Mattingly is still in charge.
At least 2 of those minutes were spent with Ventura arguing a stolen base. apparently the umpire awarded Dunn first base on ball 3 and Abreu went to second. He was eventually sent back to first due to the umps error. However, Butera should have known the actual count and thrown him out.
Maybe Butera didn’t have a play though. The ball did bounce in the dirt and he had to block it…I can’t remember
Somethings got to give here.
http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/11034128/don-mattingly-blames-los-angeles-dodgers-lack-cohesion
Typical Donnie, throw the players under the bus. What the hell’s he talking about? Its the same friggin team they had last year, save a few bench players. If there’s any discord, who created it with asinine line-ups, players playing out of position, out of their normal order, and getting benched after a good game? Donnie never wants to look in the mirror to see who’s responsible.
A consistent lineup would create a little cohesion. Dumb ass Donnie!
Man, Danks is pitching some hell of a game.
One hit. Wonder what Coach Sutter would say to the Kings if they were out-shot 9 to 1.
Great Goaltending?
No, I mean shots on goal.
Why the hell not just forfeit the game? Its obvious no one wants to play.
They should forfeit every game they play against a lefty starter. They sure can’t hit against them.
What? League crap in Donnie’s sunflower seeds? Or at $7M per he can’t go two innings?
And Hanley has to wonder why he’s taken out for a defensive replacement late in the game?
Dee Gordon 2 for 4.
Rest of Dodgers 0 for game.
Since that’s what the first 2/3 of the year is evidently for, I wonder what Ned’s busily trying to figure out we need to put us over the top at the trade deadline this year .
I’m hoping he decides its a whole new team.
The starting rotation is pretty good, and then there’s Puig.
25-5-1=19. Ned just needs to get us 19 new players.
Well at least Dee knocked Danks out.
Worse now with first base ocupied.
There’s our run for tonight.
There goes the shutout.
Maybe that’s all.
A hit! A run! Wow!
Its a new concept for this team, but I doubt it catches on.
We’re getting pretty good at scoring one run. Looks like it will be two nights in a row.
Well this is it. do or die.
Well lets see. Belisario vs. Kemp. I see a strikeout.
Ye of little faith. A weak grounder for Kemp. Van Slyke gets the K.
Dre must have crapped in Donnie’s sunflower seeds too.
Oh yeah, where’s the righty/lefty switch for SVS against Belasario?
That’s it. Maybe they’ll remember how to hit when they get to Mile High Stadium.
Ought to be a good battle. Neither team’s worth a shit.
Another crappy night!
Pathetic….. No one is getting it done….. This team needs a major overhaul……. Starting with the departure of Dildon and Nedcompoop………… I’m not real happy with our new ownership either… They don’t seem to have any baseball acumen… Just how to cash in the TV Money….. Geez!!!
Its official. This team is unwatchable.
You are right Beav… I didn’t subscribe to MLB audio or video this year. This team is not worth my time and money…..
I have Extra Innings and I WANT A REFUND! 🙂
Right now Tru, I don’t blame you… This team is not good… I don’t see it getting any better until Nedcompoop and Dildon are gone… Along with Crawford, Kemp, and Hanley…… Just unload them and eat the salary. You will be better off……
I agree.
The only thing that makes watching bearable is Vinny and his wonderful story telling.
Almost nothing doing tonight.
I have to admit I do love it when an old player of ours comes back and sticks it to Ned & Donnie. Couldn’t even get a ball out of the infield.
I’m not to sure we can lay the lack of motivation all on Don. Seems like you’d play with a little bit of pride, suck it up and play some team ball, but maybe your ego grows along with your pay check. Too bad, really, ’cause we’re stuck with these guys. I was tired of saying it last year, but all we can do is be patient and wait for this to turn around. Second thought, I’m tired of patient. I expect a major league effort. This shit (thanks Donnie) we’re seeing is why I do not travel to games anymore.
Hey, all of our players have their big contracts… They’re set…
And it shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This team sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This team needs a wake-up, shake-up call.. This club needs one clear cut leader in the clubhouse. I would find a way to make this Puig’s team. Puig’s locker-room. I would let Hanley know that after the season, he is free to seek his mega-contract elsewhere, whether he stay’s healthy or not. I would replace his bat, when the opportunity presented itself. I would find a nice partner in the A.L. to take Kemp. He only displays enough leadership skills for me, when all is well, and in my mind would hamper Puig’s ability to take control . Kemp’s presence on the field can be filled by Joc.
If they start by inserting a manager and general manager who are better suited to do things the Dodger way…all the better.
From Donnie Pass-The-Buck Mattingly:
Mattingly says #Dodgers players should explain this mess:
“Talk to them. I’m tired of answering the questions.”
And that in a nutshell says all you need to know about Donnie’s leadership skills.
Someone needs to take responsibility, but its obviously not going to be the “player’s manager.” Where’s Kasten to go down, chew a few asses in the clubhouse, fire Donnie, and put Ned on notice that if this club doesn’t make the playoffs, he’s out on his kiester too? How bad do things have to get before changes are made?
Actually, Donnie is a bit of a dick. He uses the press like a little snitch. Couldn’t walk into Kasten’s office for the extension…had to pout at a press conference. Says too many players are looking out for #1…to the press…when most of us know he’s talking Kemp, who ought to be more than pissed off for not only throwing him under the bus, but also for starting Van Slyk in center…….Van Slyk in center??? Are you kidding me? Did Lasorda EVER take his dirty laundry to the press? Donnie gives me gas. Someone in her said bring in Kevin Kennedy. I guarantee he’d turn this bunch into winners.
And why is it they have no problem moving Kemp to left against his will, but they won’t move Hanley to third?
New line-up:
Gordon 2B
Pederson CF
Puig RF
Gonzalez 1B (platooning with SVS)
Hanley 3B
Ethier LF
Butera C
Arruwhatshisname SS
These guys play everyday until someone better comes along. Other players don’t like it, make them [really] earn their way back into the line-up.
I’ll stay with Kemp. Get him a manager that breathes some confidence in him. Dave Stewart is right. Kemp smashed and battered himself for the sake of this team. Like I say…Donnie is a pr**k.
Its easy to find things to criticize when things are going wrong and it’s true there must be something that must be changed or is not being done right. We needed a change in ownership and that was accomplished. I think the new owners did what I considered the right thing and that was to spend more money .Now it’s managements time to see what ever changes it can make to get this team moving in the right direction.
I’m sure things will be changed, when management figures out when and how.
If management fails to get us out of this dilemma in a satisfactory time I’m sure that ownership will take the responsibility and make some changes in management, Like who goes Colletti or Donnie, but right now let management see what it can do first.
Personally I think things will work itself out, without any major changes and the team will suddenly be on the move and start winning again as it did many times before.
OR maybe a shakeup, right now, will do the trick.
An excerpt from a Saxon article:
http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/dodger-report/post/_/id/10360/don-mattingly-were-just-not-that-good?src=mobile&rand=ref~%7B%22ref%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Foutsidethedodgers.wordpress.com%2F2014%2F06%2F03%2Fhappy-anniversary%2F%22%7D
“So, until we have more information, or until this team starts winning enough for nobody to care, we have to assume that these guys either don’t like each other much or simply don’t work well together. That seems to be the upshot of Mattingly’s pregame/postgame attempt to communicate, through the media, with his team.
This is how a passive-aggressive person tries to communicate and get their way. An assertive leader would have a closed-door meeting face to face and chew some ass. Unfortunately for us, this passive-aggressiveness worked with management and got Donnie a new contract. This shit don’t work with players though. Its obvious that Donnie doesn’t respect the players. You have to have respect to earn and build respect. I wouldn’t want to go into a firefight with this little bitch having my back. I don’t suspect anyone on the team would either.
I have to admit, I am stunned by the status of the Dodgers at this point in the season. I am wondering what happened to all the cohesiveness and camaraderie and good feelings we heard about all last season and during the Spring. I am wondering why this team all of a sudden has selfish players, why any player on this team would not give 100%, why Donnie would even bring all of this stuff up if he did not believe it.
Here is what I do know. On paper this team should be running away with the division but we all know the game is not played on paper. The problem of how the Dodgers would deal with 4 outfielders who consider themselves everyday players was supposed to be a good problem but has not proven so. Matt Kemp looks lost at the plate and in the field. He has kept healthy but clearly is not the player he once was and now is being asked to play left field while still trying to find his stroke at the plate. Ethier has been solid in the field but so-so at the plate and lousy against lefties. Crawford? Donnie did make the right decision to keep Puig in the lineup everyday but the others are obviously not happy about their situation. And Hanley? I am sure he is trying as hard as he can but in a contract year with no extension on the table he is making it easy to let him walk at the end of this season.
I cannot help but go back to the end of last season when Donnie held that famous press conference suggesting he would not be back if he did not get a contract extension. I still think management was unsure what to do with Donnie and he forced management’s hand. I still believe Ned wanted him but perhaps there was indecision above Ned. What message does this send?
So now we have a team that its manager is questioning in public. We have a team that struggles in front of its home fans. We have a team that maybe is suffering from a lack of motivation to give 100% on every play or every at bat. Something has to change.
