Here We Go Again

Welcome to Opening Day,  Part 2.

It is not often that a team is 2-0 before 28 other teams have yet to play a regular season game,  but that is the position of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The pitching staff that many consider the best in baseball has already had their share of minor injuries.   The presumed opening night starter,  Clayton Kershaw,  has been scratched and has been placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career.

Let’s hope that the Dodgers have learned from the sloppy play in Australia  that,  while not costing them any losses,  has caused a little concern in the management and broadcasting ranks.

If this team can stay healthy,  and convert base runners to runs,  it should be the team to beat in the NL West division.

Have a fabulous Opening Night (round 2) Dodger Fans! Happy Birthday Dodgereric! Hoping the Dodgers continue their win streak! Let’s go Blue!

  4. trublu4ever says:

    Happy Birthday Dodgereric.

  5. trublu4ever says:

    Go Dodgers!

  6. JhallWally says:

Happy Birthday Dad/Eric…. Hope to see/read you more here this season. Same with you Mom/June/Nelly….

    Go Dodgers!!!!

  7. Nice bit of clutch hitting by CC. to break the ice.

  8. Happy Birthday Dodgereric

  9. enchantedbeaver says:

    Happy Birthday Big E!!

  10. I expected that HR Seth Smith.
    Ryu was magnificent.

  11. Nellyjune says:

All that work Ryu did gone with one bad pitch by Wilson.

  12. He shoulda left Ryu in but he didn’t. Wilson just didn’t have it tonight.

  13. messagebear says:

    The Beard SUCKS!

  14. Nellyjune says:

Well, that kind of sucked. The good thing is we are still in 1st place with 159 games to go. The day off will do them (and us) good to get rid of the bad taste of that last 2 innings of tonight’s game. That was dreadful! Looking forward to see how the rest of the league does tomorrow.

  15. I’m missing something here. Was Ryu limited to about 80 pitches? Why was he taken out?
Well I quess it was just another tough loss.

  16. kahliforni says:

Pretty predictable evening. Hard to restart the motor after sweeping the Snakes a week ago and then coming back to exhibition play. Ryu was awesome; no need to stretch him out in late March. 88 pitches is plenty. The game set up well…Beard just didn’t have it tonight. Oh well. Can we now dispense with the “trade Kemp” or “Kemp sucks” banter? Crawford and Ethier are not even in this guy’s neighborhood when he’s healthy.

  17. JhallWally says:

Tough loss… I guess Wison just didn’t have it tonight… The Dodgers failed to take advantage of some early opportunities to score and put the game away….. Alot of times, that will come back to haunt you… Boo!!!!!!!!!

  18. enchantedbeaver says:

Aren’t going to win many games scoring 1 run. Just seems so typical of this team year in and year out. I think if you put the ’27 Yankees in a Dodger uniform they’d magically not be able to hit anymore either.

Can we start the Crawford sucks banter Kahli? I’d just as soon they played Pederson.

    • kahliforni says:

No problem there, enchanted. If Kemp stays healthy, Crawford is my 4th outfielder. #4 in arm strength, #4 in power.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

        I’d say Crawford is more like a #2 – he’s definitely a turd.

        • kahliforni says:

Reminds me of an announcer’s call a few years back on a pop-up, which my daughter found very funny: “Pujols (read ‘pooh hole’) squeezes out #2.”

        • JhallWally says:

LOL!!! And the Dodgers are on the hook for 3 or 4 more years of his act… It won’t be pretty….

From what I understand, the Dodgers ate the Beckett and Crawford contracts to get AGon… If the wheels fall off of AGon before 2017, we took a huge bath… I’m still not sold on our new managements judgement…. Keeping Ned around just underlines my point…

  19. Cashner was tough to hit obviously and we were lucky to manage a run last night. Getting our hopes up too high is what makes it hurt to lose. I guess it’s time to remember that it’s not going t be easy to get back to the postseason.

  20. lbirken says:

Disappointing game last night and it brought back memories of opening day at Dodger Stadium last season with the Dodgers scoring only one run. I am sure the players are exhausted so having an off day today is just in time.

  21. I guess everybody has turned the page on Sunday night’s game by now and we’re ready to put it behind us now as Greinke will crank it up again.

  22. crash24now says:

Yes, Greinke will be ready since he was smart enough to stay in Arizona and get ready properly.

Now, the offense on the other hand…gotta start getting some hits!

  23. 32and53fan says:

Buster Olney just reported on ESPN that Clayton Kershaw’s injury is much worse than expected, and that he will be out at least 20 weeks. Major Bummer! Good thing we have Maholm to take Clayton’s place.

    Happy April Fool’s Day!

Today if you have a Chrome browser, you can go in the Menu and translate any Web page to Emoji. Really, no joke.

  24. trublu4ever says:

    We’ve got this today!

  25. crash24now says:

    Lineup time!

    Crawford lf
    Puig rf
    Ramirez ss
    Gonzalez 1b
    Ethier cf
    Uribe 3b
    Ellis c
    Gordon 2b
    Greinke p

  26. crash24now says:

ughhh…Kershaw could be out several weeks.

    • 32and53fan says:

Jurickson Profar of the Rangers injured the same muscle and could be out for three months. Profar has a tear, while Kershaw supposedly has only inflammation, so he should be back sooner.

It looks like Paul Maholm will get to start some games after all

  27. lbirken says:

Here’s hoping Kershaw will be o.k. and not out that long. I suppose the good news this happens at the beginning of the season instead of later.

  28. lbirken says:

Just wondering as I watched Dee foul off outside pitches if he really can hit major league pitching and he finishes off the at bat with a single. Nice bit of hitting.

  29. crash24now says:

    Dee with a big RBI!

  30. Hi Everybody, Just taking in the game.

  31. crash24now says:

Oops! That damn Seth Smith! There goes the perfect game, the no-hitter, the shutout.

  32. Seth Smith seems to have our number.

  33. trublu4ever says:

    Uh, oh….Zack’s in some trouble.

  34. It looks like smethings wrong with Greinke or he’s tired.

  35. Withrow holds’em

  36. kahliforni says:

Found out today you can’t even stream the Dodgers’ flag ship radio station, Fox Sports LA 570, on the computer. What is going on here???? Ridiculous. Somebody really dropped the ball for us “common” fans.

    • 32and53fan says:

The Dodgers radio station KLAC can be heard on the computer or phone/tablet with the MLB At Bat app or GameDay website, http://www.mlb.com/GameDay Audio.
It costs $20 for the year. After the game, KLAC resumes coverage with the post game shows and Dodger Talk. It is available on iHeart.com or the iHeart app.

  37. Thanks Howell, we’re still alive.

  38. trublu4ever says:

    WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. I was just reminded how my fingernails taste 🙂 Was able to monitor the game on Game Day along with a very horrible connection to the Padres’ radio station.

  41. kahliforni says:

OOOOOOOOOPS…Beard goes on the DL with nerve irritation in the elbow….

  42. enchantedbeaver says:

Skated by again tonight. They’re very fortunate to be 3-1. Aren’t going to win many games when the 3-4-5 guys are “hitting” .067,.077 and .133.

Looks like Ned is going to have to rely on the very kids he wanted to send down by acquiring a bunch of crap veterans.

    • JhallWally says:

Bingo!! You hit it my brother….

Very fortunate to win a game when your 3-4-5 hitters go 0 for 11 with a walk….. A nice job by the peripheral players and the pitching….

When AGon, Ramirez, and Ethier get on board, we could be nasty…

  43. grizzy says:

Looks like some of Ned’s signings were not so dumb after all.

  44. enchantedbeaver says:

Wondering if Ned will even have to make any trade deadline acquisitions this year. We’ve got a whole frigging team of better players than anything he could go out and get. Kershaw, Billz, Pederson, Guerrero, Arruewhateverthehell his name is.

Whether he actually uses the latter three is a different story.

  45. We can’t expect everything to run smoothly. I also don’t think we should worry about how we’ve been winning. We should just feel fortunate that we are winning.

  46. kahliforni says:

Speaking of Time-Warner, I’m no fan of greed and all that, but the sticking point for providers like U-verse, Direct TV, et al, for carrying the boys in blue, seems to be $4/month (at least for the 1st year). Now…..I know for a fact that my combined TV/internet/phone bill from U-verse is about $200/month. Geez, just typing that hurts like hell! Still, I’m pretty sure another $4 won’t bust the bank.

I understand the need to make a point, but like many articles have already noted the past few months, I’m already pretty much priced out of going to the stadium. In 1971 I attended over 40 games; 2011, 2012, 2013, I attended two games total. At least let me have Vinny.

  47. crash24now says:

Same lineup as yesterday, but this time against Tyson Ross. Last year he gave up a lot more hits to lefties, so look for big games from Crawford and Gonzalez. Hopefully Dre too, who still owes Tru and me a tater from yesterday.

  48. crash24now says:

If Kemp starts on Friday, where would you put him?
    —center field or left field?
    —batting second or fifth?

  49. 32and53fan says:

I got lucky… TWC apparently has public Wi-Fi hotspots at or near the locations where they have cable customers. I kept noticing one within range of my house, but I thought it was private. I used my mother’s credentials, and was able to connect. Then I got the TWC app for my phone and saw that some of the channels can be watched from a hotspot. Others have to go through the Wi-Fi at the place where the set-top box is located.

To my surprise, the Sportsnet LA can be watched on a computer /tablet /phone through a TWC Hotspot. It is not perfect, the frame rate is slow in spots and the buffer sometimes empties, requiring a reload.

I still am anxiously awaiting for Verizon FIOS to add it, though not quite as anxious as before.

  50. trublu4ever says:

If you are outside the L.A. area, like me, Directv has the game on Extra Innings….channel 748

  51. 32and53fan says:

It looks like the middle of the lineup has had their bats smiled upon by Jo-bu. Nice RBI at bats by Hanley and Adrian.

  52. trublu4ever says:

    Yay,…even Dre got a hit!

  53. crash24now says:

Padres are chipping away. We need some more runs.

  54. trublu4ever says:

    RBI for Dre!

  55. trublu4ever says:

Good job Dan. Now, some more runs would be nice.

  56. trublu4ever says:

    Yes, more runs!

  57. crash24now says:

Dee Gordon is really getting the job done so far this year.

  58. crash24now says:

Uribe, Puig, and Gonzalez have really got some chemistry going in the dugout. The funnier part is when Hanley scares Uribe!

  59. crash24now says:

News flash: Puig hit the cutoff man.

  60. crash24now says:

Puig is still learning. He missed the steal sign, fouled one off taking the steal away from Crawford, then grounded into a double play.

  61. Nellyjune says:

Way to go Dodgers! Woo Hoo!

  62. trublu4ever says:

    Nice game boys.

    • JhallWally says:

Hi’Ya Tru… Nice win…. Haren was nails… Somebody is going to have to step up while Kersh is gone..

  63. crash24now says:

Two game winning streak, yeah, baby!

  64. grizzy says:

I was wrong about the level of interest in baseball in Aussieland, but I don’t think you’ll see any pitchers volunteering for that duty again.

  65. oldbrooklynfan says:

I watched the game on MLB.TV and was pleasantly surprised that it worked well without any trouble. I only tried it out because the game on MLB.Extra Innings never came on because of the length of the Cub/Pirate game. It was great to extend the record to 4-1.
Now bring on the Giants.. ……. .

  66. Dodger4life says:

    Hey everyone…

OBF, I am glad to see your MLB.tv feed was working well… Mine was looping all over the place last night. So much so, that I finally gave up and went to sleep.

Grizz, I seen a photo online of Ryu’s ball cap and it appeared to have the black band as well. When this changed… I have no clue?

I am glad that the team is 4-1. Although, I do think they could be playing much better than they have.

After Kershaw’s last start, I was thinking to myself how fortunate we are to have him on our side. That he is such a complete and dominating talent. Then the next thing I see.. he is unavailable for a while. If everything pans out as they say it should (him needing rest to heal), he should have plenty in the tank for a good strong finish.

It seems that I read somewhere that Brian Wilson claimed… to come to camp ready to pitch? If I am correct in this… the statements made recently that he didn’t have enough time in the spring to get ready… seem to contradict each other? He did throw a knuckle-ball as his first pitch of the year to boot. I hope this is all on the up and up and he comes back, whenever… to assist the team the way it has been expected.

It seems like Ned’s utility prospects are getting younger… As he grabbed yet another one yesterday.

Did y’all see Uribe almost (he thought about it) leg out a triple the other day..then advance to third anyway’s on the error… (okay maybe you didn’t… but it was quite the late March/early April sight). Way to hustle Juan!

Happy belated birthday to OBF, J Hall and DodgerEric…

Oh yeah, and I hope everyone gets to see and hear Vinny real soon…

  67. grizzy says:

Thanx, Dodger4life. The pictures I’ve seen are also black. I’ll keep trying til I find one that fits decently.

    • Dodger4life says:

I adjust mine by the amount of hair I let grow out… (sides only, the strands on the top of my scalp seems to be on the DL)… My old cap was too small, so I had to clip it all off. My new one has a little breathing room.
