Public Enemy No. 1

201304112325843553796-p2

Zack Greinke was signed for six years for $159 Million, giving us a pair of aces. I don’t know that he’s as excellent as Clayton Kershaw, but Zack is a close second. His performance for the lowly Kansas City Royals was phenomenal, including one Cy Young award. After leaving the Royals, Greinke compiled a 31-11 record with the Brewers and the Angels.

In his first two games as a Dodger, Greinke walked only one batter and struck out ten in eleven plus innings. Hopefully he will be back on top of his game by June to help lead us to our first NL pennant in twenty-five years.

I can’t wait until Monday, when the Puds come to town. I’ve got him as Public Enemy No. 1. Where do you rank him, in comparison to the following? Who am I missing from the list?

Carlos Quentin
Gerardo Parra
Shane Victorino
Barry Bonds
Juan Marichal
Frank McCourt

Still waiting to hear the length of Quentin’s suspension.

  2. Dodger4life says:

The Giants are Public Enemy #1 in my mind
    .
After that, I really don’t care how you list the rest!

  3. Right now it has to be Quentin. Anyone who would purposely harm an opposing pitcher is truly a low life bum.
Greinke showed last night that he’s definitely a Dodger asset. The team has a lot to make up for in his absense.
I hope baseball gives Quentin a stiff suspention.

Remaining 2013 series against the Puds:

    April 15-17 in LA
    June 3-5 in LA
    June 21-23 in SD
    August 30 – Sep 1 in LA
    Sep 20-22 in SD

Each shall prove interesting. My guess is June 3rd will be the next time Quentin comes to bat against a Dodger pitcher. Which one will be the first to feature Greinke pitching to Quentin?

  5. JhallWally says:

Right now it is Quentin…. What a bush league thing to do..
He is nothing but an ignorant punk…. I’ll be hoping the baseball fates will deliver nothing but failure and misery to his sorry ass for the rest of his career….

  6. crash24now says:

    Notes on the lineup:

Uribe batting fifth after his two jacks at Petco. But did Arizona move in their fences???

Donnie Baseball starting Hairston and Kemp while he can, before any suspensions handed down. Too bad he can’t do the same with Greinke.

  7. trublu4ever says:

    Zack having surgery tomorrow…..out about 8 weeks…damn you Q!

  8. trublu4ever says:

Heard Q got 8 game suspension.

  9. lbirken says:

As much fun as it is to have a public enemy, the Dodgers need to move on and take care of the next opponent. Hopefully this incident lights the fire.

I saw “42” today and urge everyone to see it. While this movie might not win an award for best picture, the story is well told and some of the baseball action is fun to watch. I loved the portrayal of the old stadiums, uniform and equipment (and the cars). Harrison Ford is great as Branch Rickey and even though there is little in this movie that baseball buffs like me didn’t already know, seeing it on the screen is still powerful. Jackie Robinson was a special person and his story is still important.

  10. trublu4ever says:

    Matty…no suspension…..Hairston 1 game.

  11. crash24now says:

    We need some hits!

  12. vl4eccjr says:

ZZZZZzzzzzz. . . A real sleeper so far.
I keep hoping the Dodger bats will awaken from their slumber. . .

  13. vl4eccjr says:

In my mind I keep hearing Serrano from Major League. . .
    “NEED TO WAKE UP BAT!”

  14. vl4eccjr says:

I can only sum up the terrible RISP stats in one word. . .
    PITIFUL!!!!!!

  15. crash24now says:

    Damn it, Tolleson!

  16. vl4eccjr says:

    Now Tolleson can’t throw strikes. . .

  17. vl4eccjr says:

    PFFFFTT!!!! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
They just stunk it up tonight floating a rank putrid air biscuit!!!

  18. crash24now says:

Here’s an idea – don’t use Hairston as a leadoff hitter.

  19. grizzy says:

Marichal is still my #1. Quentin didn’t take his bat with him.
    *
I keep preaching patience, to myself anyway, but this failure to drive runs in is plain disgusting.

  20. The Dodgers have to stop leaving runners on, especially in scoring position. It’s got to a point, like it usually does, that when there are RISP, it doesn’t really feel like they actually ARE in scoring position.
This is a tough series, as usual, but we have to start winning games against the D’backs, again.

  21. lbirken says:

As a fan, I was hoping the incident with the Padres might inspire the Dodgers to take it up a notch but perhaps that is just wishful thinking. Still, I find it hard to accept the Dodgers were “flat” last night. The pitching has been good enough. Clearly Matt Kemp has to start hitting and hitting for power, not just home runs but the gap shots as well. He needs to drive in runs. He knows it, everyone knows it. I just wonder if the shoulder injury is still not fully healed.

  22. Dodger4life says:

I am starting to wonder if these guys are going to let Mattingly get fired before they decide to flip the switch and play better baseball???

    • trublu4ever says:

Donnie should be fired! Sitting our hottest hitter and batting Uribe 5th!

      • Dodger4life says:

I think that is dumb too, true…I might not be opposed to Uribe playing over Cruz at this point…but Crawford or Puig should be playing…

  23. Dodger4life says:

Of course Kasten being the top puppet master of the group will pull on Ned’s strings and have him do some talkin’ to the Boy’s first. Just like last season…

  24. trublu4ever says:

Here’s a good one for you: the Dbacks owner, seeing a group of Dodger fans (in gear) sitting in the ritzy seats (paid $3000 for them) asked them to either move or change their clothes. I saw them there, thinking how cool…Dodger fans sitting up close and, then they were gone. Boy, another POS!

    • trublu4ever says:

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine was asked to remove her Orioles cap at a Yankees game.

      • crash24now says:

I would tell Kendrick to his face:

        1. I paid for these seats
        2. I’m not moving
        3. I’m not changing my clothes
        4. If you don’t like, call the cops.
        5. When the cops come, it’ll be the ol’ they’ve gotta carry me off bodily.
        6. I will sue Kendrick’s ass off if the cops carry me away.

        • trublu4ever says:

Somebody said there is a disclaimer (probably teeny weeny print) that says you cannot wear opposing teams apparel in those seats….still BS to me!

  25. kahliforni says:

Time for Dodgers and Angels to make a trade, straight up: Torre’s hand-picked-Ned-rubber-stamped-non-Dodger successor for Dodger-bred Mike Scioscia.

  26. crash24now says:

All the hand-wringing about hitting with RISP is a little bit premature, in my opinion. It seems to me that we were complaining about the same thing last year. But looking at baseball reference tells us that the Dodgers hit .252 with RISP in 2012, exactly the same as their overall .252 batting average.

Over the timeframe of the total season, the hitting with RISP will likely even out That said, I still am impatient about Kemp’s hitting.

    • lbirken says:

Premature, perhaps, but I think it is safe to say we all hoped for a better start. The Angels seem to be having the same problems.

      • crash24now says:

With a 2-8 record, including a 5-0 drubbing by the Astros last night, I’d say the Angels are having a lot more problems than the Dodgers. Unfortunately, both teams have lost top starters in Greinke and Weaver.

  27. Hi Everybody
Thought I’d join you for the game.
We need to start beating the D’backs, they seem to have the Dodgers’ number.

  28. crash24now says:

Poor pie.ce of hitting by Hernandez GIDP

  29. Dodger4life says:

    Rah! Rah! Rah!
    .
    Let’s Go Dodgers, Let’s Go!!

  30. Dodger4life says:

Looking at the BA of today’s line-up one would think we have 5 pitchers in the game.

  31. crash24now says:

Nice double by Ryu. I hope that gets the offense started.

  32. Dodger4life says:

With the actual pitcher in the game having the highest BA now…Nice Double Ryu!!!

  33. trublu4ever says:

    Ugh!

  34. Dodger4life says:

RBI wise…Uribe and A.J. both have 3. ( other than AGon, they are leading the roster)..and they are riding the pine!

  35. crash24now says:

Kemp needs to take hitting lessons from Ryu. Just kidding. But seriously, he looks awful up there.

    • Dodger4life says:

I haven’t no video, so I have no clue as to what Kemp looks like…One would think that whatever is behind his slow start will change soon though?

    • Dodger4life says:

      Atta Boy AGon!!
      .
RBI #9…he has 3 times as many as anyone else…we need to look no further than the heart of this line up for some answers…

  36. trublu4ever says:

    Ryu 2-2…lol

  37. trublu4ever says:

    YAY…another run!

  38. trublu4ever says:

    Poor Matty…he’s pressing so hard.

  39. crash24now says:

    Kemp chases the outside pitch.

  40. trublu4ever says:

    There’s my boy!

  41. Great Going Andre’

  42. crash24now says:

    Tattoo was safe!

  43. trublu4ever says:

    OMG….3-3!

  44. trublu4ever says:

    CC is the man!

  45. trublu4ever says:

Way to go Matty! Finally came through!!

  46. trublu4ever says:

    YO ADRIAN!

  47. vl4eccjr says:

You gotta love a 3 run rally with 2 outs!

  48. What’s goin’ on here?

  49. vl4eccjr says:

I’d get the hook. Ryu is gassed.

  50. trublu4ever says:

    Crap! Belli not good!

  51. trublu4ever says:

We better not blow this for Ryu!

  52. trublu4ever says:

    Uribe…back to normal.

  53. trublu4ever says:

Finally score some runs and he BP blows up!

  54. A rough inning but Jansen held them,

  55. Great clutch for Hernandez,

  56. trublu4ever says:

    Insurance runs never hurt.

  57. Let’s go Brandon.

  58. A great battle and we prevail.

  59. vl4eccjr says:

Sure got dicey late in the game. . .
    Rubber game tomorrow!

  60. trublu4ever says:

Way to go guys. Wasn’t easy but, we got it done!

  61. crash24now says:

A great game by Ryu tonight. I think he got the offense on track, if that makes any sense. Hopefully they keep it up tomorrow. It was nice to see Kemp get a hit with the bases loaded, too.

  62. nellyjune says:

I would like to add Padre fans to the list. They gave CQ a standing O when he came in to pinch hit against the Rox tonight. That is just wrong.
    .
Also, saw “42” today. What a fabulous movie! I was teary-eyed throughout the movie because it was that good in how they brought what I’ve always read about to life through the big screen.

  63. crash24now says:

Bud Selig and Joe Torre are hurrying up with the appeal to make sure that Quentin doesn’t show his sorry ass at Chavez Ravine on Monday. I don’t know if that will be enough to forestall another brawl on the day that all players on the field will be wearing #42.

  64. 32and53fan says:

This is how Zack’s surgery may have looked:

  65. 32and53fan says:

Or maybe they used a plate. Update: this is the type of surgery Greinke had, screwing a metal plate on the bone.

  66. Dodger4life says:

Even with Gameday and no sound…The victory last night was a fun one…I also have been enjoying all the clever nicknames everyone has been coming up with for Baby Ryuth/Harmon Killebryu…I mean as Jon Weisman stated the Ryuf has been raised…
    .
Anyone care to guess what happens to Ted Lily next??

  67. I just saw that Quentin has dropped his appeal and will start serving his suspension today. Guess the timing is coincidental – NOT!

  68. Hi everybody
I, for one, would be surprised if Lilly returns to the team.

  69. The D’ backs are saying farewell to Joe Garagiola, today, If you’re interested.

  70. Typo, that should be D’backs, no space.
Yes, I always liked him too.

  71. Except when he played against us.

  72. RISP
    oops over already.

  73. Saw the tribute
    Good Luck Joe.

  74. TB4, So you remember Garagiola when he played.

  75. Nice shot by Adrian
Do you remember Jackie Robinson playing?

    • trublu4ever says:

I think so. My Dad took me to a game when we went back to New York for a visit. I’m sure he was playing.

  76. grizzy says:

Lead off double and can’t get ’em in. Can’t advance the runner, can’t sacrifice, can’t.

  77. grizzy says:

Not much, but at least we have something you can count on.

  78. enchantedbeaver says:

The reason why, so goes Kemp, so go the Dodgers is because Mattingley’s too frickin’ stupid to take him out of the 3-hole no matter how poorly he’s doing and drop him down in the order until he picks it up. When you’re wasting all those ABs with guys on for a guy not even hitting his weight, that’s not very smart baseball. Not to mention Little Joe doesn’t have a clue to what a running game is to try and generate runs.

Compound the fact that SURPRISE, Cruz really does suck and the fact that Sellers has no business being in the major leagues so that there are 7-8 more ABs per game of nothing and this team is even more unwatchable than in years past.

  79. grizzy says:

I do not have the words. All of you have probably used them already.

  80. 32and53fan says:

Beckett pitched great… he didn’t deserve to lose. Need clutch hits.

  81. Dodger4life says:

Losing by one run in a one run game is a tough way to walk off the field…This team has so much more ability than what they are portraying at the moment. It’s only 3 games ( Dang Giants Series), I mean 12 games and we’re only 11/2 games back. Problem I have is after 12 games, I have seen very little in the way of WANTING to have FUN through WINNING ballgames and that brings me back to losing the opening series against our heated rivals…
    .
    Happy Jackie Robinson Day Everyone
    Think Blue
    Think #42
    Let’s Go Dodgers, Let’s Go!!!

  82. JhallWally says:

    Absolutely Pathetic…..

  83. Hi Everbody
Man, the Dodgers better beat the Padres tonight or the crap will really hit the fan because we don’t want to fall any closer to them in the standings..
I’m planning on seeing the movie “42” today.
    It’s an important game tonight.
    GO DODGERS!!!

  84. koufax1963 says:

“Patience” dodgers buddies, it is a word, that is spoken softly, Branch Rickey Heard it, Jackie robinson lived it, and as Dodgers fans we must we uphold it, for with it is the hope that things will not always be like this, that a change is coming, and you all know it to be true, Hanley will return, Grienke will return, Kemp will Hit and the BP will execute. Perhaps everyone needs to take a deep breath, exhale and have some fun. Soon this team will fire on all 9 cylinders and as fans we will support and rally this team through the post season.
