It is always a great feeling on opening day, win or lose. But winning is so much better!
Clayton Kershaw, feeling sick from the flu, gutted it out (and whatever was in his gut came out) to pitch three scoreless innings in the opener. Despite the offers of Mattingly, Honeycutt and Colletti to bypass the start, he showed his grit and determination and proved that he can be a masterful pitcher despite having less than optimal stuff on the mound.
Matt Kemp came out of his Andruw Kemp Mode to return to Beast Mode, going 2 for 4 including an opposite field 2 run home run to give the Dodgers a four run lead.
Kenley Jansen was touched for a home run but the bullpen held the lead and gave the Dodgers their first victory of the year.
Magic Johnson, who sat next to the dugout, was excited to see his team-to-be close up. He showed less than perfect sense by sitting with the reviled Frank McCourt during the game. Maybe he figures he has so much teflon skin that he can avoid being damaged by such an unpopular act.
Now, its time for Dodger baseball, day two…
GO, DODGERS!
Timmy and the Gnats lost….boo-hoo 😉
Damn…thought Matty hit another one!
Andre!!!!! I knew he could hit lefties!!!!!
Way to go Andre!!!!
Way to go Billz!!!
Dang Uribe that wasn’t nowhere near the strike zone. I want Hairston at 3rd.
I want Sellers at 3rd 😉
Happy Good Friday Dodger Fans! I’m glad Timmy got roughed up in the desert!
Glad to be viewing a freebie on MLB TV
Wuz up everybody???
Way to go Dre! & Off a lefty.
Billz got out of it.
Hi vl & Collie….good to see you two,
Ditto tru! The natives ARE restless aren’t they!
I’m loving it with the Puds giving up cheap runs like this!
Me too! Billz is going to need all the help he can get.
Holy shit…this is a comedy of errors 🙂
WOW! So unlikely the flares & bounces going our way for a change!
Big strike zone. At least the ump’s consistent. Dre better zip it before he gets the boot. .
Even Enberg said they caught a break on that call.
How are you getting Enberg when I’m getting Vin?
Hey 4 runs – cool!!
….and, it’s our side, not theirs 🙂
Nice — way to take advantage of the gifts that are bestowed to us…
I love gifts that keep on giving 😉
As do I!
Who is this imposter? Shirley this isn’t OUR Chad.
I think Billz got a little a little bit of Andre’s chip in his shoulder. So far so good for Billz!
I’m glad Sergio is ok Nelly. Good news. Being concussed sucks.
That CNN SI article is scary. I was a little worried about the deal — didn’t believe it until I saw it. I thought it was over and done. I was worried that on the 1st McCourt was going to say APRIL FOOLS!!!!
What Eric posted is things that are a concern and potential. I hope I didn’t pop that cork too soon.
Collie – he was released from the hospital last night. The doctors claim he didn’t suffer a concussion, but they put a neck brace on him. I’m not sure what exactly is wrong, but hopefully more is found out at the game tomorrow. Either way, he’s on the DL for a while.
Scary stuff.
That definitely is our Uribe though.
Turtle…
He’s our Eugenio4ever this year!
Tru — He is from the church of grip it and rip it!
I’d like to grip & rip something of his 😉
Ouch!!!!!
Hey there Tru!
Dang Ellis make him throw a strike to you and I really hate 2-0 pop up.
Dee was robbed!
Padres announcers are saying Gordon was safe too 🙂
Yep…he was safe!
I guess the Pud’s errors are rubbing off on the umpires.
Umps and Refs always are biased to the home town crowd. They seem to get intimidated. Read it a couple years ago in Sports Illustrated.
ANDRE IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who was predicting two extra base hits for Dre?
Guess Dre came to play tonight.
Two extra base hits off the lefty, nonetheless!
WTG DRE!! A 3 bagger! Just missed a dinger! Should have been 3 RBI’s instead of 2 with Dee getting hosed!
ANDRE ETHIER ROCKS!!!
Way to go Dre!!!
By the way — I just saw something a few minutes ago on the Padre broadcast that makes me need a hug…
What did you see?
These 3 strange Friars. YIKES!!!
Okay. I’m getting the KCAL broadcast with Vin. What gives?
Ned needs to make Uribe go away like he did the other Juan.
Donnie could bench his ass!
Si! Por favor! ( ( 🙂 ) )
This team strikes out entirely too much, and Kemp doesn’t even have one yet.
i think Uribe is now officialy…BooRibe!
Yawn……..0for7
I’ve got to give it to Bills — he manned up tonight when it was needed. The Bully was pretty taxed last night and needed him to go deep.
Great news!!!!! Uribe didn’t K!!!
He sure did a great job! I hope he gets his confidence back after this start. It would be great to have a great 1 & 2 on our staff.
Tru!
Isn’t that 2 DPs already for Uribe. How many K’s? The guy is worse than worthless.
I’ll give Uribe two weeks before I start to condemn him.
I wouldn’t mind see Bills finish it off but dang I didn’t want to here that Vinny.
Donnie’s gonna let Billz go for the CG Shutout!
In the days of 32 and 53, CG shutouts were pretty common (at least by those two), it is nice to see pitchers get a chance to go all the way now.
I know what you mean. I don’t remember having middle relief and closers. Maybe once in a while…but, not pitchers only going 5 or 6 innings.
Alston would have left Billz in with a 6-0 lead and one out.
I guess Mattingly wanted to make the Wright move.
( ( 🙂 ) )
Way to go Billz!!! You were magnificent!!!
That was one of the finest games Billz has pitched in the majors.
Don’t blow it for Billz, Wright!
Awesome job by the entire team….minus one! Two in a row!
Who’s the one there Tru? 🙂
LMAO!
Turtle —
Do those of you with MLB game audio get the Dodger post game show? I can get it OTA on KLAC570 but it is full of static. I thought that am570radio.com might pick up the show since it is not the game but they are playing their alternate program.
If I wait a few hours, they will put up the Dodger Talk Podcast with Kevin Kennedy at http://www.am570radio.com/cc-common/podcast/single_page.html?podcast=DodgerTalk
Kennedy’s Dodger Talk is on over the air on Fox Sports LA 570 but it is not playing on the Internet. I doubt that it is on MLB game audio either. I’m not going to pay $20 for MLB radio if I can’t get the Pre or Post game shows. All the games are on TV so I don’t really need the MLB audio package.
BILLZ was fantastic tonight. The pitcher he is very, very capabile of being. An adjustment in spring training or whatever. I just like to see him run off a nice string of victories. He’s been a .500 pitcher. Let’s just see what happens.
How about that ANDRE’?
It’s very early but it’s great to have these wins under the belt.
That Andre was pretty awesome tonight 🙂
Great games by both of those two!
I don’t really mean to take anything away from Billz’ performance tonight, it was great, but it’s safe to say he’ll be wishing for more Meals behind the plate calling balls & strikes this season. More ‘W’s’ & more ‘K’s’.
G’night all!
That’s a good point but I’m hoping, getting the win under his belt will build his confidence. Aside from that he did pitch well, very well. Just hope he can do that a lot more times than he doesn’t and gets off his roller coaster.
Kemp on track for 81/81 !
Uribe is on track for 0/0 !
Uribe is also on track for 300 pounds!
Great start. Encouraging play from a couple of “question marks” coming in to the season. We’ll obviously have to get more production from the bottom third of the lineup, and I tend to think the new owners will not allow a black hole to exist at third. I’m for giving Uribe every chance, but if we are in the race at the dead line, go get someone else.
Woo-Hoo, win streak!!
A pair of “Outstandings” to Billz and Ethier.
First Place! Time for Ice Cream!
It’s the only place I can say this without pissing a bunch of people off, especially those in my family, but the GNATS LOST AGAIN!!! YEAH!!!!
Boo-Hoo….the gnats are 0 -2 🙂
Hey Tru – Brox watch:
1IP (non save situation), 2H, 1 R (earned), no BB, no K. Hit 96 once and 95 2-3 times. ERA 9.00.
He’s done! Poor guy,
I see where Beckett gave up 5 dingers and 7 runs in 4 2/3 innings…I hat the Sox! and, Kuroda aready gave up 2 in the 1st inning.
Uribe not in lineup tonight 😉
In fact…..no Juan’s tonight…..Gwynn Jr. and Adam Kennedy playing.
Cool! 😉
Now that was good fundamental baseball to manufacture the run..
YAY…we’re on the board!
Hi’Ya Tru…
Right back at ‘ya, Wally 😉
Wow…nice play, Mr.Gordon!
WTG MATT!!
Way to go guys….another run!
YAY….DRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙂
Nice one – two punch there! Dre’s going to be a doubles machine this year. . .
I also think Ellis is going to do a fine job in the #2 hole.
Hope its Ned’s.
( ( ( 🙂 ) ) )
Just stopped by for a quick howdy.
I’ll try and catch y’all later.
A.J.!!!
Wow…way to go AJ!
AJ!!!! Nice…
Wow!!! What team is this? Pitching, power, RISP and good defense. Granted, it’s just the Padres, but at least it’s a sign we should be okay in our division.
Yeah, really, who are these guys? I suppose the Padres are giving us a second spring training season.
Ruh Roh!
Crapped out!!!! Geez!!!
Holy Shit!
The wheels are coming off the wagon!
Nice relief pitching.
Glad Ned picked up Wright. Where’s Coffey?
Way to give up the lead. Let’s get a couple back in the sixth.
Pfffft!!!! Unacceptable!!!!!
Much smaller strike zone tonight. Looking at the gameday Capuano was getting squeezed & not getting the calls low in the zone.
No excuses for the bullpen though!
Loney’s off to a rousing start.
😦
Capuano got hosed. He didn’t pitch that bad.
McDooDoo warming up.
Trumom bailed, not a good sign….
Great hustle from Matt!
As D4 used to say…. RALLY CAPS…..
Have I ever mentioned that Juan Uribe sucks?
Ned should get slapped every time Uribum strikes out as a reminder of how stupid he was to get him.
LMAO!!!! Amen VL…..
Uribum is this years Eugenio-forever.
Uribum is not going to last very long. He is an injury waiting to happen. He will pull something swinging at the high hard ones every pitcher knows he can’t catch up with.
Won’t doubt he’ll come down with one of Ned’s patented “mystery” ailments either. What a waste of baseball flesh.
Another worthless player that goes out rich on the Ned retirement plan…..
And some of those fools over on Gurnick’s blog think Ned will do better with more money?
Yep, I quit reading them. They are bigger fools than Ned in my book…
I hear ya. I’ve retired from there now that the season started.
C’mon Beav, they love you….. I love the way you stick it in their face and they don’t even realize it..
Last comment I made over there some idiot either misread it or couldn’t read (it IS after all the L.A. Times) and told me I was on crack, this after his comment lacked a certain syntax.
Gosh I hate playing the Suns in Phoenix.
Gee, I didn’t know we had World Peace in Los Angeles.
Crap, all they had to do was throw the ball over the friggin plate and this game would’ve been over.
Loney continues his torrid hitting…
I’m sorry, horrid hitting.
Coffey’s on!
With Bushmills please. This snoozer deserves one with an Irish kick!
Woo hoo!
WTG Dee!
Way to go Dee!!
Sweet… He’s probably already got as many RBIs as Carroll had last year.
🙂
This isn’t fair bring back Phil Jackson and the triangle.
About time yahoo what took you so long? Guerra finally got a picture.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8929
I’ve never been thrilled with Guerra as the closer.
Bear down, Javy!
If you tell him to push, I’m outta here!
Push, Javy, push!
I just returned from having dinner with my family and, am glad the boys are waiting to finish the game now that I’m home.
Javy says: JA…FUQ 😉
Hasta la bye bye!
🙂 Adios MFs
Javy nails it down!
Thank-you “boys” for making us 3 – 0 …..feels great!
And Mr. Coffey walks away with a win.
Quite a feather in Ned’s cap.
I had a feeling Javy would finish it, once Tru came back.
Of course…..Javy is the man! 🙂
Trumom is our secret weapon……..
Woo-Hoo, win streak!!!
Just found….. Jamey Carroll’s great-grandfather, Scrappy Carroll. He was the true grinder!
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/carrosc01.shtml
HA! Numbers are just about right. BTW, Jamey Carroll is 0 for 7 but does have an RBI!!!
Believe It, or Not!!
A big “Outstanding” to AJ, Dee, and the bullpen (after Wright and Elbert)…..
Both the Dodgers game and the Kings game were no fun to watch, but at least the Dodgers came out on top. At least the bullpen kept the game close in the later innings. So that was a positive.
Amazing win, really one for the books. To come back and win after blowing a 5-0 lead was purely fanrastic. They didn’t lay down and die. they kept playing and they pulled it out. Some good bullpen work and clutch hitting did the trick.
GO DODGERS!!!
