And now, the rest of the season…

It is always a great feeling on opening day, win or lose.  But winning is so much better!

Clayton Kershaw, feeling sick from the flu, gutted it out (and whatever was in his gut came out) to pitch three scoreless innings in the opener.  Despite the offers of Mattingly, Honeycutt and Colletti to bypass the start, he showed his grit and determination and proved that he can be a masterful pitcher despite having less than optimal stuff on the mound.

Matt Kemp came out of his Andruw Kemp Mode to return to Beast Mode, going 2 for 4 including an opposite field 2 run home run to give the Dodgers a four run lead.

Kenley Jansen was touched for a home run but the bullpen held the lead and gave the Dodgers their first victory of the year.

Magic Johnson, who sat next to the dugout, was excited to see his team-to-be close up.  He showed less than perfect sense by sitting with the reviled Frank McCourt during the game.  Maybe he figures he has so much teflon skin that he can avoid being damaged by such an unpopular act.

Now, its time for Dodger baseball, day two…

    Way to go Andre!!!!

  5. nellyjune says:

    Way to go Billz!!!

  6. nedisajerk says:

Dang Uribe that wasn’t nowhere near the strike zone. I want Hairston at 3rd.

  7. vl4eccjr says:

Happy Good Friday Dodger Fans! I’m glad Timmy got roughed up in the desert!
Glad to be viewing a freebie on MLB TV

  8. colliethec says:

    Wuz up everybody???

Way to go Dre! & Off a lefty.

    Billz got out of it.

  9. trublu4ever says:

Hi vl & Collie….good to see you two,

  10. vl4eccjr says:

I’m loving it with the Puds giving up cheap runs like this!

  11. trublu4ever says:

Holy shit…this is a comedy of errors 🙂

  12. vl4eccjr says:

WOW! So unlikely the flares & bounces going our way for a change!

  13. vl4eccjr says:

Big strike zone. At least the ump’s consistent. Dre better zip it before he gets the boot. .

  14. enchantedbeaver says:

    Hey 4 runs – cool!!

  15. colliethec says:

Nice — way to take advantage of the gifts that are bestowed to us…

  16. enchantedbeaver says:

Who is this imposter? Shirley this isn’t OUR Chad.

  17. nellyjune says:

I think Billz got a little a little bit of Andre’s chip in his shoulder. So far so good for Billz!

  18. colliethec says:

I’m glad Sergio is ok Nelly. Good news. Being concussed sucks.

That CNN SI article is scary. I was a little worried about the deal — didn’t believe it until I saw it. I thought it was over and done. I was worried that on the 1st McCourt was going to say APRIL FOOLS!!!!

What Eric posted is things that are a concern and potential. I hope I didn’t pop that cork too soon.

    • nellyjune says:

Collie – he was released from the hospital last night. The doctors claim he didn’t suffer a concussion, but they put a neck brace on him. I’m not sure what exactly is wrong, but hopefully more is found out at the game tomorrow. Either way, he’s on the DL for a while.

  19. enchantedbeaver says:

That definitely is our Uribe though.

  20. colliethec says:

    Hey there Tru!

  21. nedisajerk says:

Dang Ellis make him throw a strike to you and I really hate 2-0 pop up.

  22. vl4eccjr says:

    Dee was robbed!

  23. nellyjune says:

Padres announcers are saying Gordon was safe too 🙂

  24. trublu4ever says:

    ANDRE IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. vl4eccjr says:

WTG DRE!! A 3 bagger! Just missed a dinger! Should have been 3 RBI’s instead of 2 with Dee getting hosed!

  26. nellyjune says:

    ANDRE ETHIER ROCKS!!!

  27. colliethec says:

    Way to go Dre!!!

By the way — I just saw something a few minutes ago on the Padre broadcast that makes me need a hug…

  28. enchantedbeaver says:

Ned needs to make Uribe go away like he did the other Juan.

  29. enchantedbeaver says:

This team strikes out entirely too much, and Kemp doesn’t even have one yet.

  30. trublu4ever says:

i think Uribe is now officialy…BooRibe!

  31. crash24now says:

    Yawn……..0for7

  32. colliethec says:

I’ve got to give it to Bills — he manned up tonight when it was needed. The Bully was pretty taxed last night and needed him to go deep.

    Great news!!!!! Uribe didn’t K!!!

  33. enchantedbeaver says:

Isn’t that 2 DPs already for Uribe. How many K’s? The guy is worse than worthless.

  34. nedisajerk says:

I wouldn’t mind see Bills finish it off but dang I didn’t want to here that Vinny.

  35. crash24now says:

Donnie’s gonna let Billz go for the CG Shutout!

  36. nellyjune says:

Way to go Billz!!! You were magnificent!!!

  37. enchantedbeaver says:

That was one of the finest games Billz has pitched in the majors.

  38. crash24now says:

Don’t blow it for Billz, Wright!

  39. trublu4ever says:

Awesome job by the entire team….minus one! Two in a row!

  40. colliethec says:

    Turtle —

  41. 32and53fan says:

Do those of you with MLB game audio get the Dodger post game show? I can get it OTA on KLAC570 but it is full of static. I thought that am570radio.com might pick up the show since it is not the game but they are playing their alternate program.
If I wait a few hours, they will put up the Dodger Talk Podcast with Kevin Kennedy at http://www.am570radio.com/cc-common/podcast/single_page.html?podcast=DodgerTalk

    • 32and53fan says:

Kennedy’s Dodger Talk is on over the air on Fox Sports LA 570 but it is not playing on the Internet. I doubt that it is on MLB game audio either. I’m not going to pay $20 for MLB radio if I can’t get the Pre or Post game shows. All the games are on TV so I don’t really need the MLB audio package.

  42. oldbrooklynfan says:

BILLZ was fantastic tonight. The pitcher he is very, very capabile of being. An adjustment in spring training or whatever. I just like to see him run off a nice string of victories. He’s been a .500 pitcher. Let’s just see what happens.
    How about that ANDRE’?
It’s very early but it’s great to have these wins under the belt.

  43. vl4eccjr says:

I don’t really mean to take anything away from Billz’ performance tonight, it was great, but it’s safe to say he’ll be wishing for more Meals behind the plate calling balls & strikes this season. More ‘W’s’ & more ‘K’s’.
    G’night all!

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

That’s a good point but I’m hoping, getting the win under his belt will build his confidence. Aside from that he did pitch well, very well. Just hope he can do that a lot more times than he doesn’t and gets off his roller coaster.

  44. crash24now says:

Kemp on track for 81/81 !

  45. grizzy says:

Great start. Encouraging play from a couple of “question marks” coming in to the season. We’ll obviously have to get more production from the bottom third of the lineup, and I tend to think the new owners will not allow a black hole to exist at third. I’m for giving Uribe every chance, but if we are in the race at the dead line, go get someone else.

  46. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, win streak!!

A pair of “Outstandings” to Billz and Ethier.

  47. crash24now says:

First Place! Time for Ice Cream!

  48. nellyjune says:

It’s the only place I can say this without pissing a bunch of people off, especially those in my family, but the GNATS LOST AGAIN!!! YEAH!!!!

  49. trublu4ever says:

    Boo-Hoo….the gnats are 0 -2 🙂

  50. trublu4ever says:

Uribe not in lineup tonight 😉

  51. trublu4ever says:

In fact…..no Juan’s tonight…..Gwynn Jr. and Adam Kennedy playing.

  52. JhallWally says:

Now that was good fundamental baseball to manufacture the run..

  53. trublu4ever says:

    YAY…we’re on the board!

  54. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…nice play, Mr.Gordon!

  55. vl4eccjr says:

    WTG MATT!!

  56. trublu4ever says:

    Way to go guys….another run!

  57. trublu4ever says:

    YAY….DRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. vl4eccjr says:

Nice one – two punch there! Dre’s going to be a doubles machine this year. . .

  59. enchantedbeaver says:

Just stopped by for a quick howdy.

I’ll try and catch y’all later.

  60. vl4eccjr says:

    A.J.!!!

  61. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…way to go AJ!

  62. nellyjune says:

Wow!!! What team is this? Pitching, power, RISP and good defense. Granted, it’s just the Padres, but at least it’s a sign we should be okay in our division.

    • crash24now says:

Yeah, really, who are these guys? I suppose the Padres are giving us a second spring training season.

  63. vl4eccjr says:

    Ruh Roh!

  64. JhallWally says:

    Crapped out!!!! Geez!!!

  65. vl4eccjr says:

    Holy Shit!
The wheels are coming off the wagon!

  66. enchantedbeaver says:

    Nice relief pitching.

  67. enchantedbeaver says:

Glad Ned picked up Wright. Where’s Coffey?

  68. crash24now says:

Way to give up the lead. Let’s get a couple back in the sixth.

  69. JhallWally says:

    Pfffft!!!! Unacceptable!!!!!

  70. vl4eccjr says:

Much smaller strike zone tonight. Looking at the gameday Capuano was getting squeezed & not getting the calls low in the zone.
No excuses for the bullpen though!

  71. enchantedbeaver says:

Loney’s off to a rousing start.

  72. enchantedbeaver says:

Capuano got hosed. He didn’t pitch that bad.

  73. crash24now says:

    McDooDoo warming up.

  74. JhallWally says:

Trumom bailed, not a good sign….

  75. vl4eccjr says:

    Great hustle from Matt!

  76. JhallWally says:

    As D4 used to say…. RALLY CAPS…..

  77. enchantedbeaver says:

Have I ever mentioned that Juan Uribe sucks?

  78. vl4eccjr says:

    Uribum is this years Eugenio-forever.

    • JhallWally says:

Uribum is not going to last very long. He is an injury waiting to happen. He will pull something swinging at the high hard ones every pitcher knows he can’t catch up with.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

Won’t doubt he’ll come down with one of Ned’s patented “mystery” ailments either. What a waste of baseball flesh.

  79. nedisajerk says:

Gosh I hate playing the Suns in Phoenix.

  80. enchantedbeaver says:

Crap, all they had to do was throw the ball over the friggin plate and this game would’ve been over.

  81. enchantedbeaver says:

    Loney continues his torrid hitting…

    I’m sorry, horrid hitting.

  82. crash24now says:

    Coffey’s on!

  83. vl4eccjr says:

    Woo hoo!
    WTG Dee!

  84. enchantedbeaver says:

    Way to go Dee!!

  85. nedisajerk says:

This isn’t fair bring back Phil Jackson and the triangle.

  86. nedisajerk says:

About time yahoo what took you so long? Guerra finally got a picture.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8929

  87. enchantedbeaver says:

I’ve never been thrilled with Guerra as the closer.

  88. crash24now says:

    Bear down, Javy!

  89. trublu4ever says:

I just returned from having dinner with my family and, am glad the boys are waiting to finish the game now that I’m home.

  90. trublu4ever says:

    Javy says: JA…FUQ 😉

  91. vl4eccjr says:

    Javy nails it down!

  92. trublu4ever says:

    Thank-you “boys” for making us 3 – 0 …..feels great!

  93. enchantedbeaver says:

And Mr. Coffey walks away with a win.

Quite a feather in Ned’s cap.

  94. crash24now says:

I had a feeling Javy would finish it, once Tru came back.

  95. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, win streak!!!

  96. crash24now says:

Just found….. Jamey Carroll’s great-grandfather, Scrappy Carroll. He was the true grinder!

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/carrosc01.shtml

    • enchantedbeaver says:

HA! Numbers are just about right. BTW, Jamey Carroll is 0 for 7 but does have an RBI!!!

      Believe It, or Not!!

  97. JhallWally says:

A big “Outstanding” to AJ, Dee, and the bullpen (after Wright and Elbert)…..

  98. nellyjune says:

Both the Dodgers game and the Kings game were no fun to watch, but at least the Dodgers came out on top. At least the bullpen kept the game close in the later innings. So that was a positive.

  99. oldbrooklynfan says:

Amazing win, really one for the books. To come back and win after blowing a 5-0 lead was purely fanrastic. They didn’t lay down and die. they kept playing and they pulled it out. Some good bullpen work and clutch hitting did the trick.
    GO DODGERS!!!
