I was disappointed, pissed off actually, when Lo Duca was traded to the Marlins, but it was just after that the whispers about ped’s began to surface. I always have thought that had something to do with Lo Duca leaving. And, no, he doesn’t belong on the ballot. One all star appearance, and that’s about it.
I have no clue why and how La Duca is in the ballot.

I’d just like to know why the print is so small on this tread. I had to go up to 200% to read it. I also wouldn’t worry about LoDuca. Apparantly everybody thought the same way you did, since he didn’t get any votes and is gone from the ballot.
The comments are O.K. though but just the caption is in tiny print on my screen.
It is small because after I spent 90 minute struggling to create the new post on a hacked tablet computer, having the first draft disappear, trying to figure out how to select text, etc., I just put up a screenshot taken as a backup in case I could not finish. When I pressed the Publish button, the computer locked up. Frustrated because I had to get up early, I just posted the image of the screen instead of trying to publish it for the third time.

I’m wondering if it has to do with a certain amount of service time in the bigs that automatically puts your name on the ballot. There are several players every year that you just look at and go, “Really?” Since he got 0 votes, we never have to hear mention Paul LoDuca and HOF in the same sentence ever again.
Unless the veterans committee brings it up in a few years… nah, they wouldn’t, would they?

I think any player who has been out of baseball for at least 5 years (and possibly has a certain amount of service time but I am not sure about that) is eligible for HOF consideration. What gets me is how some voters leave off names of deserving candidates while other voters give votes to players who clearly are not deserving on consideration. Just look at the some of the names that received one or two votes.
As I have mentioned before… Having lived in mostly rural communities and until the internet came along, following the Dodgers was difficult. Just that fact that I barely know who Paul Lo Duca is… should say quite a bit about his Hall of Fame chances.

Thanks D4. Hard to believe then that LoDuca played parts of 10 seasons. I remember his one good season. I don’t remember him sticking around for more than 3 or so others though, let alone 9.
I recall Paul LoDuca as an exciting player for the short time he was here but also a player who started the season strong offensively but slowed down considerably after the All Star Break. As a catcher he played a lot of innings because the team was short on quality hitters and he was a good hitter. He even stole a bunch of bases his first season. He was very popular with the fans and as I recall it was a big shock when he was traded at the July 31 deadline.
I woke up this morning and read Dodger Insider… Jon has a piece about Don Mclean’s American Pie… which trickles into a piece about today’s youthful Dodger fans. This is what I enjoy about Jon’s writing.
Which made me think about Northstateblues… He had the same kind of talent I always thought… North, I hope all is well… Go Dodgers!

The Dodgers and Tanaka keep getting mentioned in the same conversation, but I don’t think I’d be willing to pay the price for him right now. Beckett will be back, and Billz a little later with a couple of kids waiting in the wings. I’d concentrate on the players we have now. Take care of them financially.

I guess the only question is will he come back after his suspension is over. It looks like most are saying he’ll be unable to make it back because of his age. They are also saying that the Federal court will not take his case because they usually don’t in these cases. It’ll be something if or when he shows up to ST this year. The LI Ducks said they’ll let him play if it’s O.K. with the Yankees.

I too am tired of hearing about A-Rod and the whole steroid mess and clearly A-Rod stands to lose a large chunk of money that comes with whatever suspension he gets. All indications are he cannot win a case against MLB but I suspect MLB is doing anything it can to make sure this case never gets to court.
I agree that Bud Selig is as much responsible for mismanaging the whole steroid era as anyone and I cannot imagine he would want to disclose anything in court. While many will remember him for making the playoffs a lot more intriguing with the wild card and such, Dodger fans will most certainly remember him for cramming the McCourt’s down our throats and then almost choking on them himself trying to get rid of them.
Yes Les, I believe Selig has been a failure… The whole steroid issue came on his watch… He turned a blind eye in the 90’s. The Mc Court debacle is of his making…. Seligs tenure will go down as a huge setback in the overall history of baseball.. He wasn’t awful(close to it at times), but, he wasn’t very good at any time…. Overall, I’d give him a D+ for his body of work…
As I’ve said in the past, I think Aaron and Maris still hold the home run records. I was like some others who hoped a clean A-rod would break the career mark and legitimize the record once again, but no, he had to cheat too. Now the dumb ass should shut up and take his medicine. Hopefully a black list is on his horizon.

Like Clemens (and I’m sure we’ve heard the last from him, I hope), A-Rod is just going down the same blind alley and I’m sure he won’t stop until he hits that brick wall like Clemens did. Bonds was smart enough to know when to stop, although he waited around for nothing.Now they’re all in the same boat..
As you say most all were smart enough to invoke their right to remain silent… at least to some degree.
Imagine if A-Rod accuses MLB of cherry picking who they have exposed to steroids and who they haven’t in the past. Further cementing speculation that some who have been elected to the Hall are among this list?
I am not saying my thought has any validity… I am just saying A-Rod seems like the sort of (insert your own word), that would entertain this without much thought as to anyone, but himself.
Personally, I hope he comes to a sound decision and just takes whatever money he has coming to him… and does, well, whatever, wherever, we don’t have to be reminded of what a (insert word again) he is!
