The folks in Texas are a friendly bunch. You can ask Enchanted and vl4eccjr.
Maybe they won’t be as friendly after a two game sweep by the boys in blue. The schedule for the next four games is weird. The Dodgers play the Rangers in Arlington Monday and Tuesday, then both teams fly to Los Angeles for a two game series on Wednesday and Thursday at Dodger Stadium. I don’t remember a back to back series against the same team in each other’s stadium, other than to make up for a rainout or in the post-season.
The Dodgers flight from San Diego to DFW* experienced a malfunction and had to divert to LAX. Airline travel is extremely safe, if you go by the miles per accident stats, but planes do go down occasionally. I shudder to think of the disaster that would occur if a MLB team plane were to crash. Though nobody likes to think about it, there is a contingency plan in place if the unthinkable were to happen. Scott’s father, Andy Van Slyke, teamed up with longtime St. Louis baseball writer Rob Rains to write “The Curse”, a novel whose premise revolves around the Cubs suffering a tragedy in which 23 members of the team lose their lives.
*Located roughly halfway between the major cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, DFW spills across portions of Dallas and Tarrant counties, and includes portions of the cities of Irving, Euless, Grapevine and Coppell. It has its own post office ZIP code and United States Postal Service city designation “DFW Airport, TX”.
Hoping for a win tonight.
The lineup is almost the same….except Dre has moved behind JT with Yas following. I guess Donnie finally figured out Andre is actually hitting the ball.
AGon is DH…..Turner is playing 1st base.
Tonight’s #Dodgers lineup at TEX:
Pederson CF
Puig RF
Gonzalez DH
Kendrick 2B
Turner 1B
Ethier LF
Grandal C
Rollins SS
Callaspo 3B
Bovada has the over/under on Dodger runs scored tonight at 4 1/2
Texas is at 4

Texas,,just another place on earth.
When I was in Texas, everyone at the airport had a beer in their hand and they were free to take that beer wherever…I truly enjoyed this part of Texas.
I think the territory was known as Love Airfield…
My sister used to live in Fort Worth and decided to move back here to Idaho. I flew into Dallas Forth Worth Airport to meet her and help her drive back. She was flying in from New Orleans at the same time and had her car all ready to go in the parking lot. Only problem was she lost her parking ticket and couldn’t remember where it was at. She is so freaking dumb, she asked the guy sitting next to her on the tram if he knew where she parked at. Then later asked the skycap…meanwhile I am carrying all her freakin’ luggage as all I brought was a small dufflebag. I must have followed her around the parking garage for 2 hours while she asked me if I’ve seen it? I have never seen it, not once. I pointed to the yellow Corvette, but that wasn’t it? Finally I sat on the curb with the luggage and told her to go find it….making sure she knew my location. About an hour later she came walking back and said I found it! I asked why she didn’t drive it back and she played dumb….now we have to find it again, which went a little quicker, but she didn’t just walk right to it. We get the car loaded up and drive out into the circle…she made 3 loops around that circle trying to find the exit. I finally told her hey there’s only one sign and it has two directions you can go…pick one! She picked the wrong one…
But that took us to a Marriotts where she decided we would bunk down for the night….keep in mind she guaranteed me that she had enough funds to make this journey. She had me return the luggage to the car after hearing the price for a room. Now I’m worried, sorta. I have enough funds to make this trip 100 times, but I’m keeping this a secret until I have to share. She eventually finds a room more suited to her budget, albeit she does confess first thing in the morning that we’d have to drive straight through the rest of the way… While in Texas she bumped the car in front of her at a stoplight and backed into a car behind her leaving the gas pump…and she refuses to let me drive. The date is Dec 10th and there is a severe storm that stretches from the border of New Mexico and Colorado, all the way to Idaho.
.
She has old highway tires on her little Texas car…and she apparently was trying her best to pop them, because all I heard for miles and miles were those bumps that warn you you’re about to leave the highway…bump-bump-bump-bump……
She promised me a steak dinner over the phone. I must of read 10 billboards as we came into Amarilla that said 72 ounce Porterhouse. I even hinted that we should stop and eat…9 times.
She wouldn’t even look that way as she drove right on passed it. She did find what was probably the dirtiest Waffle House ever, in the middle of Nowhere Texas. Where upon getting out of the car to go in, two crackheads tried to rent us a room at a local motel. I guess we stuck out!!
Man, I hope these guys score before me and my sister get to Colorado…yes we make it to Colorado.
We can’t score and of course, Frias is imploding!
I see they’re all standing around waiting for AGon to do something again. Great offensive plan.
I call game over. Nice talking to y’all tonight.
Frias should of been out of there after the second walk in the sixth, he never pitches well out of the stretch.
Big 6th inning for the Rangers
Another good pitching performance, this time by Frias, until the 6th inning. The way the Dodgers execute they’ll always hit into a lot of DPs.
Phooey!
Well that was quick.
Can’t get a win streak together when all you can do is wait for a bomb.
It would be nice to see the team try to play some small ball but maybe Donnie knows they aren’t capable of it…
I guess the Dodgers are a station to station team. I like Kendrick but I miss Dee Gordon. It’s almost looks like it’s rendering Davev Lopes irrelevant.
He is OBF and there’s no reason for it. Joc stole 30 bases in AAA, Puig obviously has speed, and its about the only thing Rollins is half way decent at.
I’d also like to know what idiot really thinks Turner is a middle of the order bat.
Hope they slap a heavy fine on the Cards when this hacking ship gets done hitting the fan. They steal signs, they hit your best players with the intent of injury. POS organization that tries to pass themselves off as the best in baseball.
I agree 100%!
Anderson better settle down.
The home plate umpire too!
See we have our offensive juggernaut in action again tonight. This team is so boring its not worth investing my time following. Call me when they actually start to play real baseball.
It ain’t over yet.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Y…E…S
New ball game!
Now it is.
Well, crap!
Another dud.
These guys can’t even score some runs off the Rangers pitching with their “A” line-up. They can’t win on the road. Plodding station to station baseball. Spotty relief pitching. And I’m glad we have that PVL Rollins in those big RBI spots like last night in the 9th and not Seager. .200 is much better than .300.
Does anyone harbor any illusions this team is capable of doing anything in the playoffs?
You mean to say there are other players on the Cavs besides James? According to all the news I saw, you’d get the impression he was the only guy out there for Cleveland. The media are such dumb asses most of the time. They get started and head a certain way and you might as well try to stop a train rolling down a track.
I’m just hoping the Dodgers have more luck against Wandy Rodriguez than they had against Chi Chi Gonzalez.
As most of you, I am baffled by the offensive troubles the Dodgers have had for quite some time. Fortunately, the Giants have had their own problems which has helped the Dodgers stay in first place. Still, it does seem as if the Dodgers have not recovered from the three game shutout losses to the Giants a number of weeks ago as the whole team went into a funk at the same time. The pitching has been good enough. So what has happened? I know most of you believe Donnie is to blame for the lack of offense and perhaps some criticism is warranted for his unwillingness to change things up beyond moving guys around in the lineup. The Dodgers were more than a station to station team the first few weeks of the season but as Agon has cooled, so has the rest of the offense.
I know a lot has been said about the lack of team speed and the unwillingness of Donnie to play “small ball” but as I recall from reading the book “Moneyball”, team speed and stolen bases were not too important to the stat geeks pushing all the numbers. The main thing that mattered was on base percentage. The current Dodgers don’t run but they do get on base. The problem is they don’t score, which brings up what has plagued this organization for a long time. I do think the analytics used by major league baseball has its place but I do have to remind people that Billy Beane and all his genius have yet to produce a championship. I also wonder how important the manager is to the stat freaks in the intangibles we all think a good manager should have in order to win. Where does in game strategy come into play in all of this?
So what happened to all the good at bats the Dodgers had early in the season? Are Dodger hitters too predictable? Clearly they have not been able to do much against decent pitching. Some may argue good pitching will usually prevail but I maintain the Dodgers are getting mostly good pitching while still losing close games. This means the opponent is doing enough to win. Why can’t the Dodgers do the same thing? I am not convinced all the blame can be placed at Donnie’s door but it does seem as if he is much more willing to accept things than I am. But then again I have that luxury as a fan.
Are the Dodgers hitters too predictable? One would think… if it is known that your philosophy to hitting is to be patient and wait for your pitch, or a favorable pitch to swing at. You’re kind of severely behind the 8-ball after the pitcher gets ahead in the count. Plus, if they have a stat sheet that shows what type of pitch you swing at favorably, they should be able to get ahead in the count? Which would leave a player a) protecting the plate, or b) complaining about a bad 3rd strike call by the umpire?
I might not be around for tonight’s game…I may pick up the tempo and watch some C-SPAN instead….
2 players have an OBP above .250 against Wandy Rodriguez.
Jimmy Rollins at .444
Chris Heisey at .333
Correction above….OBP instead of OPS. Others in tonight’s starting lineup who’ve faced Wandy.
Ellis .167
Kendrick .000
Gonzo .250
Turner .200
Heisey and Gonzo each have 23 at bats. Heisey has 3 home-runs. Gonzo has 1
Turner also has 1 home-run in 10 at bats.
Kershaw is +750 at Bovada to throw a complete game. He’s -1800 if you bet him not too. Gotta think he wants to excel against the likes of the Rangers? Might be worth betting a marble to get 750 back in return?
Things usually are better for the Dodgers when they play in LA, so there’s a better chance of winning tonight.
That should be true OBF. They have fared better at home this season.
I’m going to try and look alive tonight…But I agree with enchanted’s earlier statement that Donnie’s ballclub is boring. It’s like you’re watching the same inning for the 250th time…just with revolving participants. I keep waiting for the camera to pan over into the dugout and catch Donnie using opera glasses.
Definition of insanity…
I see Donnie is at it again tonight. Pulling the lefties against Wandy cause he throws left. Anyone notice that Fielder, Gallo, and other lefties are playing for Texas?
Your #1 & 2 hitters get on – 1 out and 2-0 & 2-1 on Kendrick and no one going? No hit & run… just standing and waiting for him to hit a bomb.
Players like habit – a routine – Donnie changes that based on who the other team is playing. He doesn’t play to win – he plays not to loose. He’s almost defensive with his lineups.
Just really making me get more and more frustrated.
Texas just tried a hit & run on a 2-1 count by the way….
Fricken Donnie.
& I agree with what Birk had to say. Some of what is going on might be the philosophy of the FO & not just Donnie’s call. But based on his prior seasons I’m guessing he’s cool with it.
Analytics have a place in baseball – but there should be a mix of who you have on your team as well.
Look at the Giants – they are mainly station to station & keep the line moving. No one is there swinging for the fences – they go 1st to 3rd. Guys are in motion – hitting to the right side if a runner is at 2B, etc…
How many runs did they score last post season without a hit? I have looked but can’t find the total – but they basically won the WS by doing it.
Leadoff double and the next guy grounds to 3B.
Nice situational hitting.
I might add that I like Puig’s excitement but not the temper tantrums when he’s batting. If I’m a pitcher I know I’m in his head.
Sorry about the binge posting – just I finally have a night off and was looking forward to coming home and enjoying the game and then see the lineup and it just hacks me off.
I’m in a foul mood I tell ya!!!
Oh and Choo is playing – yup he’s a lefty.
Oh and a lefty just hit one out against our lefty – Kersh.
Yes Wandy is a lefty – but he’s not an ace pitcher.
I just don’t get it.
Donnie is by far the most stubborn POS I have seen! I am furious that he gets away with this crap……And, you’re right no other manager revamps the entire lineup with a fucking lefty in there! Only good thing is if he keeps this up we will no longer be in first place and maybe he will finally get FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, AJ is completely useless! I am so pissed off at this crap night after night!
He did just get a nut!!!
Big deal!
Being home isn’t helping.
I normally don’t comment much on lineups but I noticed the same thing you all noticed right away about how Texas has so many lefties against one of the best pitchers in baseball and scored 4 runs off him while the righty heavy Dodger lineup keeps leaving runners in scoring position on base.
Even Vinny mentions it!
Actually, it doesn’t seem to matter who bats for the Dodgers when facing a lefty.
That’s what he says….so, wouldn’t Donnie know that?! And, if that’s the case, why not at least put your best defense out there!
I sure can’t blame Kersh for his frustration. With this weak assed lineup, there is no margin for error.
.
.
Oh BTW, can we forget the Heisey experiment, and just kick him to the curb? He can neither field or hit.
I’m all for that! I just switched over to the Giants game and guess what…..Seattle has lefties hitting against Bum and they are winning 2-0
Well, at least SVS made it interesting!
Not shut out tonight! Without the home runs the Dodgers might never score. And, is it just me or does Texas pitching coach Mike Maddux look as if he has been eating mud?
🙂
I’m glad I didn’t actually bet that marble…I just peak at the odds to see what Vegas is thinking. I sure thought Kershaw would have an outstanding outing after his last showing, especially while facing his home state team, Texas. Go figure!
.
Brighter note we’re on the board!
Interesting story about Texas manager getting one plate appearance in the big leagues. And then he brings in a righty to face a righty and now a lefty to face a lefty. They all do this stuff.
He let Freeman pitch vs Howie & Turner & SVS…
That’s a little better.
Giants lost 2-0
They seem to have the same problems scoring runs as well. The NL west does not seem to be as strong as we all thought, at least so far.
They really miss Pence when he isn’t there.
Keep wasting opportunities with these GIDP’s!!
Deja vu all over again!!
Another HR off Ravin.
Prince is a strong kid.
Must register around a 4.2 when big boy trots around the bases.
Hard to believe he doesn’t eat meat.
…..and, that’s why I do! 🙂
🙂
Another dud!!
I’ve got nothing to say!
Another loss in a game started by Kershaw. Hopefully Greinke can stop the bleeding tomorrow but the offense needs to do its part regardless of the lineup.
Well, we didn’t lose any ground.
Dud.
When I saw the Dodgers and giants are scheduled Sunday night on ESPN, I cringed. Literally.
I wonder if the Rangers brought their brooms.
If the team had been playing half way decent ball, they’d have build a decent lead to tale into July and the all-star game. Instead we’re leading what looks like a really blah west. Something obviously needs to happen to shake these guys up, as we’ve discussed in the past, but right now I’m mostly wondering where Gonzalez has disappeared to. Has anyone seen anything about him?
It’s getting to where fans are going to start looking to see if the opposing pitcher is a lefty before buying tickets.
Just a fluky game last night, Kershaw was not ON, a balk, the opposing pitcher gets a hit, a Lefty hits a HR, and even ellis let him down by not finding the strike 3 pich between his legs!
Now if Pederson and gradal had started, I would think a different outcome. and there goes Donnie adjusting, pedeson goes in to ceter making catches Heisey never could, and gradal comes in to catch, just a little too late…………
The giants are in their annual June swoon and the dodgers cannot run away with it, so we meet this weekend for the battle of the slumps.
I cant blame donnie for the lack of execution on the field(although I like too) but not being consistent with the line up and the BP choices made are on him.
PUIG nd Gonzo could of realy put this game as a win if they executed.
And oh My, this AL team actually steals bases an puts the hit and run on, and bunts players over. Besides hitting HRs
this is all very frustrating.
Last nights game was an example where sitting Joc because it was a lefty pitcher shows the lack of vision by Donnie or the FO (Who ever is making these decisions).
Because they are then sacrificing the defense that you get with Joc.
Seems to me as whoever is making these decisions are making them not in a play to win attitude – but a play not to lose attitude. Almost like they are playing on their heels.
The team as a whole seems to be pressing – and it is especially evident with Puig and Kersh. Kersh looks rushed and frustrated and I’m guessing he is also tired of the lineup that is being trotted out behind him. I know I would be.
I agree!
They better look hard and far for their hitting shoes tonight, so they can, at least, maintain this 2 1/2 game lead, as they go into this big weekend series with the defending champs. They can’t depend on help from elsewhere.
With the lack of posting activity for tonight’s game, I’m thinking most think the Shit kickers have brought their brooms. . .
Another good pitching performance but, shitty hitting once again…..getting tired of this crap!
Unbelievable
What’s there to say? Just more of the same. Something needs to be shaken up.
At least Donnie tried a hit & run. Justin who’s been money just wasn’t.
He’s been our hottest hitter and didn’t even start!
That’s Donnie’s way – sit a guy when he’s on a roll.
Maybe they’ll score now that Greinke is gone.
One can only hope OBF!
I know it’s whats always done but I hate using the closer in a tie game in the 9th.
There won’t be a save opportunity so why not use him?
Come on Dre — get gappy!!!
Another GIDP!! So predictable!!
What an UGLY way to win!!
.
We’ll take it! Whatever it takes!!
We win on a damn balk!
I was hoping for a wild pitch……………….A balk………WE WIN!!!
Kevin Kennedy called it a “Balk Off Win”.
Never seen that before! The Dodgers win without getting a hit in the inning, even hitting into a double play. Only the Dodgers could do such a thing.
I agree Im still Laughing, i was so pissed at the DP before, now Ha Ha
Seriously? A balk-off? That’s the only way we can score?
*
The way this is going we can expect some call ups soon, but in the mean time I don’t expect any panic from the office. We are, after all, in first place and this has got to turn at some point. If this is still going on at the break, I’d seriously start to consider who I want to keep rather than who I’m stuck with. That’s probably going on already.
After the auto pilate win last night, I’m just hoping our luck continues.
