Colorado Comes to California

The division leading Rockies are here for a weekend series.  The Dodgers,  who trail by one game, are expected to bring up pitcher Adam Liberatore to fill the roster position, vacated when Carlos Frias was optioned to OKC.

The Dodgers are looking to increase their four game winning streak against the hot Rockies, who have won their last three games.

Interesting article in the Times about how the Dodgers are utilizing stats much more now with regard to positioning outfielders. Some of the outfielders were surprised at how accurate the information has been and I especially enjoyed the part about how the Dodgers were worried about Joc because he tends to “walk around” between pitches. However, the coaches noticed Joc always ended up where he was supposed to be so they are no longer concerned. Even Puig seemed to appreciate the help. I was at the game Tuesday and I noticed Lorenzo Bundy waving a towel to position the outfielders on a number of occasions, much more so than usually happens.

I’m hoping to take at least 2 of 3 this weekend. GO DODGERS!

    • The Beav says:

Dammit, lets take 3 and put the Rockies back in their place!

I transferred in Denver yesterday and it was friggin snowing. Had to wait for them to de-ice the plane.

      • vl4eccjr says:

Better the new D.I.A. than the old Stapleton. That old place was a nightmare!

        • The Beav says:

Yeah, they made me run from gate 81 to 29 too!!

Got home and was greeted by a hellacious thunderstorm late afternoon/early evening. Think we got 4-5 inches of rain in a few hours.

Cali was nice though. Left my wife there. 🙂

  3. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Hi folks
Just hoping Clayton looks more like himself tonight.

  4. oldbrooklynfan says:

    AGon 10 RBI.

  5. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Howie makes it 3-0.

  6. The Beav says:

Wish they let little Pedro (Guerrero) play third and use Uribe late in the game for defense. Uribe’s bat is useless.

  7. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Damn Tulo.

  8. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Good throw by ‘DRE.

  9. vl4eccjr says:

    WTG Dre!

  10. trublu4ever says:

Woo-Hoo…my boy throws him out at the plate!

  11. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Thank you.

  12. The Beav says:

Uribe is back to how he was 3 years ago.

  13. vl4eccjr says:

    Gifts gladly accepted! 😉

  14. trublu4ever says:

Donnie has to move Joc up in the lineup! I’d even switch him with CC. Actually, Id prefer if CC didn’t play at all 🙂

  15. vl4eccjr says:

  16. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Kershaw is struggling.

  17. JhallWally says:

  18. trublu4ever says:

Uh, oh…as Vinny says…we’ve got a ball game!

  19. The Beav says:

Damn our staff is giving up an awful lot of HRs.

Can’t wait for McCarthy to throw against these guys.

  20. The Beav says:

Why is Rollins batting leadoff? I knew he was going to be the shits.

  21. trublu4ever says:

    That’s better…thanks Adrian!

  22. oldbrooklynfan says:

    AGon MVP

  23. vl4eccjr says:

    And THAT”S Howie do it!
    Sorry. I couldn’t resist. 😉

  24. oldbrooklynfan says:

We got those 2 runs back and I think we’re going to need them.

    • The Beav says:

That’s one way this team is different than the last few years. Seems up til this season they’d score 3-4 runs early, then take the rest of the night off. They seem to have more spunk than they used to and go right back out and score some more.

  25. vl4eccjr says:

Joc just missed that one. 😦

  26. 32and53fan says:

The fan who reached for A-Gon’s hit almost cost a run. People still do this even after the announcement and message on the board telling them not to do it. I hope security took him up to the concourse for a stern lecture and warning about ejection if it happens again.

  27. trublu4ever says:

AJ’s defense is much better….and, Kid K is comfortable with him….I neither catcher is hitting so, why not give our Ace who he wants?!

  28. oldbrooklynfan says:

Kershaw, Even when he’s bad he’s good.

  29. vl4eccjr says:

Glad Kersh got out of that jam. He didn’t have his best stuff tonight, but still kept it close.

  30. vl4eccjr says:

Rollins sure has been in a funk lately. . .

  31. The Beav says:

Glad Rollins is batting leadoff. Really gets on base a lot.

  32. The Beav says:

I don’t care what time of year it is, it always tickles me when the Giants lose.

  33. trublu4ever says:

    Good job, Paco.

  34. vl4eccjr says:

    A-gone still locked in. . .

  35. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Waytogo Andre’

  36. vl4eccjr says:

    Nice Dre!
    Never too much insurance.

  37. trublu4ever says:

    Give me a Y….give me an I …… give me a M …… give me a I and, yes, we’ve got YIMI….great job!

  38. The Beav says:

Think Rollins needs to sit a game or two and let Turner start.

  39. The Beav says:

I didn’t know Liberatore threw that hard.

  40. vl4eccjr says:

Nice job by Paco, Yimi, & Adam coming out of the pen tonight!
    First Place!!!

  41. trublu4ever says:

Awesome performance tonight, boys….let’s do it again tomorrow!

  42. oldbrooklynfan says:

    The bullpen was fantastic.

  43. The Beav says:

G’nite folks. Thanks for the game talk.

  44. koufax1963 says:

Reading the recap, of interest to me, the infield shift is off with Kershaw pitching, they tried it before and now the sabremetrics guys say, Kershaw just doesn’t have the same arm slot position as other lefties, so the ball coming off the bat does not translate the same as a shift would be helpful. Well glad they figured that out.
I wonder if there is a “bat phone” from the sabrmetrics suite to the dugout to make in game changes?
Really happy about the way the dodgers are trending. NO Australia trip this year bodes well.

  45. oldbrooklynfan says:

I noticed that people seem happier that Ethier is playing, then worrying about when Puig is coming back.
This may be due to the winning steak but there are still plenty of Ethierholics in the crowd, including me.
Whether this will help Ethier remain a Dodger or will lead up to his departure, time will tell.

  46. lbirken says:

I still think Ethier is going to be a big part of this team. Not sure why I think that but I do. And if you don’t like Rollins as lead off hitter, who do you think would do a better job? Puig? And I agree, Joc will probably move up in the order at some time assuming he continues to have good at bats.

  47. 32and53fan says:

There will be a lot of opportunities for Ethier to play between rest and injuries, big or small. The question is will he accept his position? I hope he stays and thinks getting a ring is better than starting on a losing team.

  48. crash24now says:

Eventually, [no jinx] Gonzalez will cool off. Then others are going to have to pick up the pace on offense. Who? Puig. Uribe will need to be replaced by Guerrero.

  49. trublu4ever says:

    Lineup for tonight:
    Ethier (YaY)

  50. oldbrooklynfan says:

It’s amazing how Uribe has slumped again.

  51. oldbrooklynfan says:

Not a good start for Greinke.

  52. trublu4ever says:

    Yay…we’re on the board!

  53. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Well we took the lead.

  54. trublu4ever says:

    Way to go Agon!

  55. oldbrooklynfan says:

Butter & egg man for MVP.

  56. oldbrooklynfan says:

Damn, He should’ve took him out.

  57. oldbrooklynfan says:

    WTG Jroll and Puig.

  58. trublu4ever says:

    That’s more like it!

  59. oldbrooklynfan says:

We got both runs back. Go Howie.

  60. crash24now says:

The Puig bat has come back to life. The Uribe bat remains dormant.

  61. trublu4ever says:

    Nice job JP!

  62. trublu4ever says:

    Dodgers win again!

  63. oldbrooklynfan says:

    6 in a row.

  64. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, win streak!!!!!

  65. The Beav says:

I’m liking how when the opposition gets a couple runs this team goes out and gets them right back.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

Yes, this is truly a pleasant change. This is a good offense that constantly fights back. A never say die spirit.
And the bullpen has been marvelous so far.

      • 32and53fan says:

That’s because we lost a couple of Prima Donnas who were more interested in swinging for the fence instead of going with the pitch to advance the runners.

  66. oldbrooklynfan says:

It’ll be interesting to see if McCarthy will continue to get strikeouts while being vulnerable to the long ball, today.

  67. oldbrooklynfan says:

I came in with McCarthy seemly struggling in the sixth, but now it looks like we’re having fun.

  68. The Beav says:

Looks like they’ve brought the broom with them today.

  69. The Beav says:

I gotta say, I do like the depth this team has. Even a “Sunday” line-up is formidable.

  70. koufax1963 says:

wow! Take this stuff to San Francisco this week, the bench with Turner, SVS and Ellis putting some hits together today. Gonzo quiet? really beginning to see the depth and fortitude of this team.
Colorado was on fire before they came to town, now they’re
    burnt up

  71. The Beav says:

I gotta ask the question… why did Liberatore bat if he wasn’t going to pitch the 9th?

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

      A very good question.

    • nedisajerk says:

To be honest why waste a PH when you’re up by 7 runs? The 1st 2 games of the series I though Kershaw should’ve had hit for himself because it make sense since I hate wasting PH in the 6th inning leading off when being up by 3 runs and their no rules saying you having to used a PH for a pitcher when your team is up by 3 runs if this was his last inning. Why not let Paco pitched the 7th and 8th or Garcia 8th and 9th is that too much to ask for? I’m not a big fan of wasting a PH when we’re up by 3 runs. I’m shock Donny didn’t double switch when he brought Garcia in with Turner going to 3rd for Uribe. I wish he didn’t PH for Kershaw than we could’ve had Guerrero at 3rd on that double switch. I still don’t like it and I think Paco could have gone 2 innings or Garcia but to bad Donny had to waste another PH.

  72. oldbrooklynfan says:

    That’s 7-0 for 7 in a row. Lucky!!!

  73. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, win streak!!!

  74. JhallWally says:

Hey Dildon!!! Ride the hot horse… VanSlyke. And Ethier… Crawford should not see the starting lineup for quite awhile… I like this lineup without Crawford and Puig… Please FAZ, make Crawford go away….

    • JhallWally says:

I just don’t get the play Crawford everyday bullshit.. Just because he makes tons of money and came over in an ill advised trade…. I have never been a proponent of the trade and I dislike the way it has impacted this team going forward.. Especially with regard to Crawford… He has put up as many roadblocks as Juan Pierre.. And he is not as good a Pierre was… Good Grief!!!!

      • trublu4ever says:

I agree. But, we all know Donnie too well. Lucky for Dre that CC has been ill….we shall see if Dildon has the guts to go with what is working.

        • The Beav says:

Fortunately there’s enough depth on this years team that any line-up he puts out there is pretty good.

        • JhallWally says:

Hey Tru. I don’t see it.. Dildon will play Crawford as soon as he can.. I don’t understand it. Unless he has a mandate from up above… And I don’t mean heaven, I mean Kasten and company….. From what we’ve seen in the last couple of years,
Dildon has no guts.. He is a Torre clone. And, Torre was overrated and sucked…

          • trublu4ever says:

I agree…he will play CC. However, playing the rough outfield in SF, he will screw up or get himself hurt. And, Dre loves to hit in the Bay Area! Of course, Donnie boy doesn’t care!

  75. griz says:

I’ve never been down on the Boston trade. Punto did a good job for us and I think you can say the same about Becket. I think everyone will agree we got a first baseman that can hit. The Crawford part of the deal hasn’t worked out quite as well. What to do with Carl? The money part doesn’t bother me so much. As the Rockies commentators say, the Dodgers throw the stuff around like monopoly money. They sounded jealous.

    • JhallWally says:

I agree Griz… The money is the least of the problem… My main contention is letting Crawford and his contract slow down the evolution of this team… He’s a freaking hairball in the drain.. He needs to go away….

  76. 32and53fan says:

I have no idea why Donnie would play Puig yesterday knowing that he is healing from a hamstring injury and there was an off day today. He clearly tweaked it again. If he needed to be DL’d, they could have back dated it. Now, the clock restarted and he would have to miss 15 games.

  77. griz says:

Donny is supposed to be considering inserting a call up to start Thursday’s game instead of Greinke to give the staff an extra days rest. I usually do not second guess Donny that much, but I’m wondering about this one. The giants are down, but they probably will not stay down and a better chance to win should be taken. I haven’t looked at the schedule and there is probably more things going into this line of thought, but I’d take the extra day later.
