The team has played well enough to find themselves sitting a top the N.L. West, on this first day in September. They have managed to improve upon the early season errors and overall lack of good fundamentals. Josh Beckett and Clayton Kershaw have given us two no-hitters that will forever be looked upon as bright spots. Matt Kemp has turned a frustrating few years, back into one of potential. Puig has maintained a nice line across the board in his sophomore season. We have a guy in Gordon who has pleasantly and somewhat quietly taken over and improved upon the lead-off spot and second base position. Kenley Jansen has been for the most part all business when given the chance.

As far as I can tell, everyone on this blog, that was here in [was it late February] when Boy’s embarked upon 2014… Is still around as we head into the final stretch. Over 3 million fans have shown up to watch the team in person. Season ticket sales were up across the board, so much so, that after closing down sales, the Dodgers then re-opened ”said sales”, even if at a higher premium than before. The faithful have even endured a season in which the beloved Vin Scully has only been view-able to a select few. A season in which he announced his intentions to return in 2015.

I don’t know what the Dodgers September song will be???
I do hope it will be one with an upbeat tempo…I do hope it will be a prelude to an October chart buster…I hold out hope that the September Song will showcase the talents of Kemp, Hanley, Gonzo, Puig, Uribe and yes, even Ethier lighting up the billboard. I trust that Kershaw, Greinke and Ryu will give the teams song a solid foundation on which to perform.
The team has one road trip remaining. Which takes them through San Francisco, Colorado and Wrigley Field in Chicago. Meaning, whatever song the team decides to sing…the majority of it will be sung in front of the hardworking, and loyal fan-base, in what once was referred to as DodgerLand..
It sure would be nice to see the Boy’s put together something that has us all humming the same tune… A tune that will forever stick in the minds and blue-bleeding hearts of us all…

Not that it means much…but the Giants play the majority of their September games on the road… which will take them through Detroit of all places…
For me, it’s a win-win. Either the Dodgers do well…or the Guggs start cleaning house upstairs and on the bench. As for fan enjoyment (because, really, a couple days after the World Series ends, who cares anymore???), this has been a lost season without the Dodgers on TV. They are my backdrop to the summer and it borders on ridiculous and pathetic what the Dodgers (yes, the Dodgers, not Time/Warner) have allowed to happen to such a loyal fan base.

This team just doesn’t stack up against a well rounded team like Washington that can pitch AND hit. Our team’s been one-dimensional all year and folds against anything but mediocre pitching.
Things may look glum, but we have to remember that we’ve been hanging on for a couple of weeks now. Who knows? Maybe the Giants will never shake us loose. You know what they say, things are always darkest before the sunsrise.
OK I was wrong, NO increase in our lead, padres in extras took that out, a positive thing, the brewers just went cold, it was not so much the gnats were better. hoping Rox can be tough in their park vs the gnats, because these Nats are tough, a bad pitch will be launched by the #8 hitter as well as the #3 hitter.

With Kershaw in dominant form and zeroing in on his 3rd Cy Young, I wonder how many more years of this dominance can the Dodgers expect? In other words, how large is the window of opportunity? Pitchers are the most vulnerable of all to injury. So I say the window is small. That said, Ned’s work this season is his worst yet…and that’s saying something I know we bang on him a lot, but really, with Kershaw in his prime, this bench and bullpen is an embarrassment to a team with title aspirations. The paper this morning quotes Ethier as saying this team, as assembled over the winter, has what it takes to get the job done, that adding new players needn’t have been a priority (Ned obviously agreed). He says it’s on them, the players. Sounds great. OK…go win a world championship. Brian Wilson (the other one) said it best for Ned and Donnie in respect to Kershaw: “God only knows what I’d be without you.”
Ned never has known, nor ever will know how to build a team.

That was a nice home win the Boy’s displayed last night. I missed most of the game, as I’m still dealing with some side pain [rib contusion], although, with medication now which makes me sleepy. I did see the risky base-running that turned out in our favor due to errors. It was like old times when all I had was Gameday without audio…re-watching the highlights over coffee. So how does one of the OFs get hot, because that is the decision I would go with, who is hitting gets to play. Sure Joc should get some playing time. What did puig do to get off the bench? Perhaps Puig will show us something today. If not, then the carousel continues. yes pretty hard to position yourself for success when all you do id PH once a game, and then you play one game then get to sit the next. Wow, the whole season’s frustrations and shortcomings all in one game.
Kevin Kennedy took all of 15 seconds on the post-game wrap-up to second-guess Donnie concerning the bottom of the 11th inning. Luckily, I wasn’t listening to the game at that time. I think Kennedy is right, but you be the judge. Dodgers get the first two runners on with Pederson and Kemp due up. Donnie bunts (Kennedy not happy), Pederson advances runners. OK, first base open, Kemp up with Butura on deck. Gee, what would you do? Same thing Matt Williams did. The rest is history. I know it’s easy to blame the manager for everything…but Donnie is a bit of a dullard. Nice guy, great hitter, but a bit……………………..slow.
I was watching the game at the time of this situation and Vinny said Kemp would be walked if Pederson’s bunt was successful so Donnie had to know that would happen. My guess is he would rather have a veteran player up at bat than an untested rookie, who already had failed at some big at bats. Still, the Dodgers had other chances to win this game and failed at those.
I’d give Kennedy a chance to manage the club if they fire Matronly. He makes sense on the radio and knows how to handle pitchers. He also wouldn’t take crap from the Dodger Divas.

After yesterdays performance I was ready to make a comment about what a fine collective choke that was and how this team just doesn’t have what it takes to be champions. I’ve thought that for awhile. We’ve got two very capable backup shortstops on the bench – Rojas and Arruebarrena. No reason to play Turner at shortstop. It’s like asking Matt Kemp to play catcher just because he’s good with the bat.
I’m not trying to be an antagonist here…but Donnie said Ari is dealing with shoulder issues and was only available to pinch-run.
But, I agreed with your call, that Turner isn’t a shortstop yesterday when you made it.
Woke up this AM, with this game still on my mind, and the Gnats fans I work with got a little tickle out of that and they made sure to tell me. Im done with bashing the ownership (guggies, magic, kasten, walter) and NED and Donnie must of conferred as to what the make up of this team would be by the time Australia went live, so they built this team and adjusted to DL concerns all through the season, and did not make big changes by the trade deadline.
So it comes down to performance on the field, so I excuse NED from first pitch on, What I observe is Donnie doesnt really know the limits of his players. Go to the 8th, Wilson gets two outs, I know it was not like he was 1,2, 3 and done, but he struck out the last guy he faced, but then wilson was taken out, with what I view as not a game endangerment situation, why not let wilson finish the 8th or until a run was scored? This is not a Hindsight reply, it is a evaluation of a process to win a game, just like the failure to pinch run for Ellis when he was at 2nd with puig coming up…………

Sorry but our top 3 pitchers will not help when it gets to the 8th and 9th to win, it is on these players to meet the challenge, and I must say they really tried yesterday despite our manager not positioning this team to win.

All I can say is I hope Donnie learned a lesson from his mistakes. Especially not pinch running for Ellis. I can’t get over the fact that he didn’t score the winning run and the Dodgers eventually lost the game. We all know that Ellis is slow of foot. This is one game we should have won. If we lose the division by one game, this was the game.
Donnie also said in his post game presser…that there was no-way…he scores from second on that hit. No-way is a bit of a stretch…There was no-way Kershaw the night before is safe going to third…and no-way, Gordon scores from second on a ball hit to the shortstop…
I just wish Mattingly was a better manager, whatever that means… My gut feel says he’s constantly feeling his way to see what works and what doesn’t; he has no resume to know what is a good gamble and what isn’t. Learning on the job ought to take place at AAA.

I read a little story the other day…That had Steve Sax claiming they once held Tommy Lasorda down in the locker room and scribbled on his nuts…[I can only imagine the things Tommy was saying to them as this went about]. Steve added that they loved Tommy and would walk through the gates of hell for him…or something to that effect.
I felt that way as a FAN!

Concerning the Dodgers’ marathon and Mattingly’s questionable moves Wednesday, Plaschke of the L.A. Times ended his column this morning on a nice note:
“There was so much questionable strategy coming from the Dodgers’ dugout late last season that Colletti replaced bench coach Trey Hillman with Tim Wallach. If there’s heat again this fall, expect it to fall squarely on Mattingly.”
I usually hardly ever put the blame on the manager but after Wednesday’s game, I’m having second thoughts.
I doubt if this will change anything, So I hope DM knows what his mistakes were and it will help him in the future.
