I was happy to see the Mets were harmless last night as they can really surprise you when you least expect it.
some surprises last night. AJ Hits. Turner runs. Kemp gets RBIs and Haren pitched a good one. oh and the mets made errors.
I think the NATS will get back to winning ways and with Grienke “sore” this is a telling game today, what his future may be, the only problem is it may be a lingering thing

Correia isn’t fooling anyone today. Off day tomorrow, but I see no real reason to burn through the bullpen. Correia was hired to be the long man, so I wonder if he shouldn’t stay out there and take his medicine. As I’ve said earlier it’s games like this is why I quit traveling to Denver and Phoenix.
I believe Carlos Frias was also hired for the same thing. I think he’ll pitch a few innings.

Puig tried to score from second base on a 5-4-3 double play. He did this on his own and did not even slide although it probably did not matter. This makes the second triple play against the Dodgers this season, both with Puig running into the third out.
I would not go so far as “deport” Puig but clearly something is not right with him right now. He is showing little plate discipline and what he does hit is pounded into the ground. Is he wearing down playing his first full season?
Why did the Dodgers even continue to play this game? Just enact a mercy rule or something…like this team was going to come back from a 6-run deficit…which has now ballooned to 8? Very soft 2014 version of Dodger Blue.

I don’t get why a fellow would run into a triple play while his team is down a bunch of runs. this guy was supposed to be getting smarter. Maybe they have a lot of triple plays in Cuba.

In my opinion Puig does the things he does out of desperate enthusiasm trying to wake this dead-ass team up. In all my years following the Dodgers I have never seen such a zombie-like team. Sounds like a manager I’ve seen at work.
With the loss the Dodgers retain the 4 1/2 game lead over the Giants they had at the start of the day.
I am beginning to just accept the way Puig plays. Would I prefer he make better choices? Of course and honestly today’s base running gaffe made little difference in this game. I still think he has the ability to help the Dodgers win more games than he helps them lose. Today is just another forgettable game for a division leading team.
Maybe all of the above is true: Puig stupidly tries to wake up these duds and we should just accept it?….OK….In the end the giants got the shit beat out of them too and we lose no ground.

I didn’t watch the game today…somehow I pulled an oblique muscle, while sleeping last night. If you’ve never pulled one, the pain is constant with every movement and excruciating.

My thoughts on Puig are…He seemed to be a little banged up going into the All-Star game. I’m not saying it was anything major that would prevent him from playing but nonetheless he had been battered around out in right field with his style of play.

I wonder/suspect he was given a little education by his peers at the All Star game. Not in a disgusted way, but in a way that mixed joking around, with some seriousness as well. We seen some evidence of this when they played the Angels. He doesn’t seem to be as brash as he was last season. Last season he was all out, in all aspects. We seen McGwire talking to him the other day in the dugout, and as a person that has read lips since the 3rd grade. I can tell you McGwire told him to relax.

He has been adjusting to a new position too. Why does he make mistakes, especially on the base paths…My guess is in Cuba these things work. He might have been a spark-plug there, the way Gordon is here…by speeding up a game to the point errors happen…just my thoughts here. He has had a lot to digest in his short time with the team and for the most part has handled it pretty well. So in a sense, I think kahli is right in the fact that he is trying to generate some excitement.

My thoughts on the team overall…2014 to date has been ho-hum, ho-hum, for the most part. Although, they sit in first place and have the second best record in the National League….20 percentage points behind red-hot Washington. I’ve heard many times, the thought that getting hot, going into the playoffs is a big boost. That time is approaching…and we have seen a little more life as of late…at least in the way of fun games. Games that are being played with several key players injured. You can call me crazy, or whatever you are inclined to call me…but, I think we will see a different team if they manage to hang on and join the post season…and I believe they will.

The team took 2 games both from the Padres and the Mets…Without Ryu, and by using Kershaw, once, and Greinke once. The latter being linked to elbow soreness to boot. I’m not going to complain too much about that…

Take care of business on the road trip…get healthier, both physically, and mentally, and have us a little fun as we wind down the August part of the schedule. September is sure to be a dog-fight.
Yep D4L, we took the series… That is the bottom line…. That is all we have to do from here on out…. There are going to be ugly games like tonight along the way… It is just the nature of baseball… Just keep winning series’, and we will be OK….

One thing we tend to forget about Puig is that he’s only 23 years old. In a lot of ways, he’s just a big kid. I agree that he’s trying to spark the team by doing outrageous things. Some things are smarter than others, but, like Manny Ramirez, he’s trying to interject some fun, too. With the flat play the team’s been showing lately, it’s not altogether a bad idea.
If it wasn’t for Puig’s dash around 3B, I doubt if we would’ve had much to talk about after a game like that.
Concerning the triple play yesterday. Here are two different approaches to the media:
Puig did not address the play after the game.
“It’s just the wrong play,” Mattingly said. “It’s what we talked to him about. We always go back to, on those types of plays, you play the scoreboard. Today it was the wrong play, and he’s going to make mistakes, and we’re going to live with that and we’re going to keep teaching him. But the disappointing thing is I think that’s the second time almost that same exact play happened, and you … want guys to learn from their mistakes.”
Memo to Donnie: Keep it in house. How about a simple,” We’ll address it with Yasiel,” and keep it at that. I know we all want sound bites, but the player comes first, not the fans. DM has an annoying habit of airing dirty laundry in public.
He tends to be transparent about stuff like this and opaque about things that matter. Very annoying indeed.
