    Let’s do this boys!

  2. Here come the Braves, ready or not.

  3. trublu4ever says:

    Here’s the lineup….if anybody cares:
    Gordon
    Puig
    Gonzalez
    Kemp
    Crawford (BOO)
    Turner (Uribe with night off)
    Ellis
    Rojas
    Correia

  4. The Dodgers are on ESPN (Braves)but I got Charlie, Orel and Nomar on MLB Extra Innings.

  5. The Braves are on the board.

  6. trublu4ever says:

    ….and, CC still sucks!

  7. 80th RBI for Ol’ Reliable.

  8. lbirken says:

Wow, a hit with the bases loaded. Can they do it again?

  9. lbirken says:

We’ll take it but you have to be hoping for an extra base hit in this situation.

  10. Turner makes it 3-1.

  11. lbirken says:

As Charlie said, all charity accepted. Fortunate to get three runs.

  12. lbirken says:

Sorry to say but Allana Rizzo adds nothing to the Dodger TV broadcasts. I don’t think it is entirely her fault but her interviews after.the games are not very good.

  13. An outstanding outing for Correio

  14. I wonder who’ll pitch the 8th for the Dodgers.

  15. Dodger4life says:

I’ve been small children sitting today, as will I be all week. So, I am just tuning in…from the comfort (I’m exhausted) of a BED!! I have the Braves broadcast tonight…SNLA’S feed was fuzzy.
    .
I see the Boy’s are ahead, and the new guy fared well…
    .
    Let’s Go Dodgers!! Let’s Go!!

  16. lbirken says:

Wow, the Braves have come apart.

  17. Andre’s getting a lot of BP up there.

  18. That was the Wright stuff.

  19. trublu4ever says:

    Way to go boys.

  20. enchantedbeaver says:

    Unexpected win.

Those first two games by the new guys make Ned look like a genius.

    • crash24now says:

We shall see how the new guys look by the end of August.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

Now Crash, you know what will happen Both of them will do great so that Ned signs them to his patented 3-year contract this offseason. They won’t fall off a cliff until April 2015.

        • crash24now says:

Yep. Then one will have a career ending injury on April 15th. The other one will just suck Tomko-style for three years.

  21. crash24now says:

Well, the ninth inning wasn’t pretty, but they got the job done.

    Winning streak = two !!

  22. nedisajerk says:

RIP Robin Williams. The news had a clip on show like (Mork & Mindy and Happy Days) bring back some old memory and I was so young when these was on and not to young to see Mrs. Doubtfire. I’ve been waiting for a 2nd sequel and even though he root for the wrong team (Giants) he’s going to be surely miss and I can’t believe they have the nerve to show a picture with him and the Giants mascot on the ch 11 news here and I live in Compton which is in between Los Angeles and Long Beach.

    • JhallWally says:

Yep Shad, very sad news… I hope Robin has finally found the peace he could not get in life here…

      • lbirken says:

Funny how we react when someone we admire turns out to be a fan of a rival team or a team we don’t like.

        • oldbrooklynfan says:

Regardless of what team he rooted for, he was a fine comedian and actor.
May he RIP, my condolences to his family, love ones and friends

  23. Dodger4life says:

To me, what made Robin Williams so unique…was his imagination… I will miss his spirited humor. R.I.P. Robin!

  24. crash24now says:

I think we just found something that Crawford can do and Ethier cannot do:

    Crawford LF
    Puig CF
    Kemp RF
    Van Slyke 1B
    Turner SS
    Uribe 3B
    Ellis C
    Barney 2B
    Haren P

  25. The lineup always looks awkward without Dee leading off.

  26. Barney opens up with a hit and RBI.

  27. enchantedbeaver says:

    BARNEY!!!

  28. All even on Justin Upton’s bloop.

  29. For those of you who may not remember or are too young, the Dodgers had another Barney back in the day.

  30. BJ Upton’s HR puts the Braves up 2-1.

  31. enchantedbeaver says:

BTW, great line-up we have in there tonight. Real exciting.

  32. All tied up again and the Dodgers go ahead 3-2 on Kemp’s hit.

  33. trublu4ever says:

I think Dre should try the catchers position. AJ and Drew can’t hit a lick. 🙂

    • It’s a tough situation with ‘Dre. When it comes to playing time.

    • JhallWally says:

Hey Tru. I think the Dodgers are playing the percentages…. I believe their thought is, if we keep running Crawford out there everyday, he will get injured…. And, then Andre can step in and platoon in left with VanSlyke… It is only a matter of time until Crawford gets injured… He is like Hanley… Very fragile…. I hope we do not resign Hanley… And, I wish we could get rid of Crawford…… I guess I am not a fan of overpaid, underperforming prima donnas…..

      • trublu4ever says:

I think so too. I just think, if given the same amount of playing time, Dre could perform as well as CC. And, in my humble opinion, is much more pleasing on the eye 🙂

        • JhallWally says:

🙂 Crawford will end up on the DL…. Andre will get his shot… And, yes, I believe he will do as well as or better than Crawford (it really wouldn’t take much to outdo Crawford)…. I just would like to be done with Crawford….

  34. Haren had a good outing. 1HR.

  35. I was hoping for a WP and we got it 4-2 Dodgers.

  36. trublu4ever says:

    WOW…BARNEY IS A STUD!

  37. Nice catch by Barney.

  38. enchantedbeaver says:

Keeps the pressure on the Gnats.

Good to see Haren find a little groove again, but his contract will undoubtedly vest for next season so its a double edged sword.

  39. trublu4ever says:

Very good win….now, off to watch the Giants lose 🙂

  40. kahliforni says:

The three new guys are all contributing, just glad to be out of the cellar in Philly, Minnesota and ChiTown. Some of the more complacent Dodgers might actually get inspired.

  41. messagebear says:

The Giants are plainly a lousy team, and they won’t be anywhere near the playoffs by the time October comes. There is no really good team in our division – we’re mediocre on the positive side as a team, but probably the best in starting pitching. The Brewers seem to have it together and look to me like they could get through the playoffs. The Nationals, I don’t know. They seem to be playing well, but other than the Marlins I don’t see anybody in their division really challenging them. I think the Braves are also pretty lousy this year. Now, when it comes to the American League, I think they have the class all around. It would take someone like the Dodgers with outstanding starting pitching to give the AL opponent a real battle.

  42. oldbrooklynfan says:

I have to ask my friend TrueblueWill (Again) if he has any ideas how to celebrate if the Dodgers just happened to reach the World Series. It would be the first time since we met on the internet as Dodger Fans. Will lives in Manhattan.

  43. crash24now says:

    Regular Lineup

    Gordon 2B
    Puig CF
    Gonzalez 1B
    Kemp RF
    Crawford LF
    Uribe 3B
    Ellis C
    Rojas SS
    Ryu P

  44. lbirken says:

Interesting how things seem to work out for the Dodgers. Carl Crawford is Donnie’s choice for everyday left field and while he started slowly, he has been playing well lately. Moving Kemp into right field seemed to revitalize him and there have no real issues with Puig in center field. Ned trades for two guys about whom most of us probably knew very little and both those guys have done well in their debuts. Ned also trades for another guy with a funny name and when he is pressed into action, he performs. Time will tell if these players can continue making positive contributions but the proof is a six game lead over the fading Giants.

But as good as things are going right now, I do agree that playing in a weak division helps. It is great the Dodgers overcame a 9 1/2 game deficit but most of us felt this team should never have been that far behind in the first place. I think credit is due to Donnie for not letting things fall apart and for making the tough decisions, any of which could have backfired.

All that being said, I think it is premature to wonder how to celebrate a World Series victory. We all agree that while the competition in the NL West might not be all that good, there are a number of good teams standing in the way come playoff time.

    • Dodger4life says:

      As always, well said, lbirken.
      .
It looks like I will get to watch the game tonight…It’s been hit and miss the past few days. I really haven’t seen much action since Saturday.
      .
It’s nice to hear that the new additions to the club have filled their roles adequately, so far. Let’s hope this trend continues…
      .
      Dare I say, “4 in a row”, tonight…
      .
      Let’s Go Dodgers, Let’s Go!!

    • Regardless of how weak the NL West is the Dodgers have as much of a chance to reach the World Series as any other team. They almost made it last year. You never can tell how things will work out. Nobody said anything about celebrating a World Series victory. You have to get there first.

  45. After the Jints win today, Let’s hope the Dodgers can bring the lead back to 6.

  46. CC’s HOT 1-0 Dodgers.

  47. The Braves cut it in half.

  48. messagebear says:

CC is certainly justifying Donnie’s faith in him, so unless he succumbs to the DL we’ll probably see very little of Andre. I still don’t understand how Andre could peak so early and then decline in his career. I didn’t think he was a great player, but he certainly was a good one for a couple of years.

  49. The Braves are hitting Ryu well, it seems.

  50. I hope Ryu isn’t hurt bad.

  51. I’m glad to see Santana out of there, he was tough.

  52. We have to get going with Braves leading 3-2

  53. crash24now says:

    Ryu pulled a butt muscle.

  54. crash24now says:

Excellent long relief job by Wright.

  55. Well, that’s the game – we’ll get ’em tomorrow!

  56. Well I guess the Braves were due to beat the Dodgers.

  57. messagebear says:

Great job of SUCKING by Puig!

  58. lbirken says:

Tough game to lose with the opportunity in the 9th inning to tie or take the lead. Hard to believe the Dodgers have not won a game yet this season when they are behind after the 7th inning. Puig has looked a bit out of sorts at the plate the past two games but maybe the Braves pitching has something to do with that. Still a lot of Dodger strikeouts but at least the defense is solid. Hopefully the boys can bounce back tomorrow and take the series.

I feel bad for Andre Ethier losing his spot but he has only himself to blame. Perhaps we expected too much from him. Clearly Kemp is a better all around player than Ethier. Crawford probably is not all that much better but has something Andre does not have: speed. Still, if Andre had hit better the choice to sit him for Crawford might have been harder to make. I do think Donnie (as well as Rick Monday and the rest of the broadcast crew) believe in Crawford’s ability to hit better while at the same time believe Andre can come off the bench and still help the team. I hope he can.

  59. trublu4ever says:

I’m glad Dre is doing what is asked of him (no, I’m not happy about lack of time) but, to me, Puig is becoming a pain in the ass for me….it’s more like he thinks about himself more than what is best for the team.

    • messagebear says:

I absolutely agree. It’s not so much that anybody can’t strike out four times in a game, but his performance in the ninth inning really irritated me and proves your point exactly. With two men on and no outs in the ninth, does that not call for some situational hitting for any major league player? You don’t go in there swinging for the fences (which hasn’t been very successful for him anyway), but you at least shorten up, try to hit it the other way, all so as to move the runners over. Striking out in that situation is the last thing you want to do. But to Puig it seems to be, “I’ll win it all or nothing”.

      • trublu4ever says:

        Exactly!

      • JhallWally says:

The kid is still learning… Obviously…. To your point Bear, this is where the coaching staff and manager need to take a firm hand……My god, you have to put the ball in play at least…. Unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. Dodger4life says:

    Morning Baseball…Dodger Baseball!!!
    .
    Woo-Hoo!!

  61. Dodger4life says:

    Gordon
    Puig
    Gonzalez
    Kemp
    Ethier
    Uribe
    Rojas
    Butera
    Hernandez

  62. JhallWally says:

Wow, what happened to AEllis… Our catching has become a huge black hole when it comes to offense…. Something else that needs serious consideration in the off season… It would be nice if they could find a quick fix in the waiver wire trade deadline….

    • crash24now says:

The boys on the tube (Steiner, Orel, and Nomar) said that AJ is squaring up on the ball better.

But it sure doesn’t show by his monthly splits. He’s had one good month this year – his OPS in June was .728. But that’s been followed by .496 in July and .502 in August. Crap, he’s only passed the Mendoza line in June – look at his batting average by month:

      April .167
      May .174
      June .279
      July .161
      Aug .147

That makes for a big black hole at the bottom of the lineup, especially now together with Rojas. The 7-8-9 part of the order just ain’t gonna produce.

  63. Dodger4life says:

Speaking of A.J…. (And, while we wait for today’s game. This is a nice read!)
    .
He talks about how he prepares to catch Kershaw.

  64. trublu4ever says:

If we don’t score lots of runs on our old buddy Harang….we are stinky 🙂

  65. Hi Today feels like a Sunday to me. Only I’ll get to see the whole game before I leave the house. Here’s hoping the Dodgers can get back on that winning track.
    GO DODGERS!!!

  66. Dee on third with no one out and lo and behold Puig singles him home.

  67. crash24now says:

Dee Gordon goes pedal to the metal and puts himself into a situation where he can score a run.

Yasiel Puig gets picked off the basepaths yet again. TOOTBLAN.

  68. Butera sends one out with Miggy Rojas aboard. 3-0

  69. zonadodger says:

    Nice HR Drew

  70. koufax1963 says:

Going back to last night’s ninth inning, Puig must not know how to bunt, in his at bat a NL manager should have had Puig bunt, if executed properly then one out 2nd and 3rd, gonzo’s hit may of won the game. The same could of been done with Kemp’s at bat, bases loaded, but NO, Donnie plays for the win with the hit or perhaps the Fly ball for the tie, did not work. So you wonder why the dodgers may not not advance in the play-offs, look no farther than donnie.
I actualy applaud NED in his acqusitions, did not get rid of farm.
Puig has been catching the ball with two hands, no recent taunting, just needs to be careful about the bat flips after a walk, and BTW puig getting walked speaks to his patience at bat.
Looking at the scedule, the dodgers control their fate, Gnats have days off for rest, last monday and today, and we both play the brewers, but otherwise it will be how each team plays within their division in September, and the padres have been remade and are pesky to Dodgers. I don’t see the gnats laying down, so the dodgers better not lay down either unless it is to lay down a bunt, which seems only allowed by Gordon.

  71. zonadodger says:

    SB Dee

  72. crash24now says:

Dee is picking Harang’s pocket all day long.

  73. crash24now says:

Puig FINALLY moves the runner over.

  74. crash24now says:

Butter ‘n Egg man gets his RBI

  75. zonadodger says:

    Nice going Adrian

  76. 81st RBI for A-Gon.

  77. zonadodger says:

    Come on Kemp

  78. Pitch count going up for Roberto.

  79. Ol’Reliable meat, butter, potatoes & eggs man A-Gon get’s his 82nd RBI.

  80. That’s all for Harang.

  81. zonadodger says:

Damn…Would of been nice if Andre came thru there

  82. I called that DP. ‘Dre’s hitting the ball hard to the wrong place.

  83. koufax1963 says:

bases loaded, shades of last night, I sure hope Ryu is good to go next start because Roberto is running out of gas

    • crash24now says:

I just hope Ryu is good to go for the playoffs. You are right – the fewer starts he misses, the better off we are.

  84. It would be good to get another inning from Hernandez.

  85. lbirken says:

If I were an opposing team I might be happy when the Dodgers load the bases; it has been a sure thing to kill a rally.

I love these discussions about bunt situations. We have all watched a lot of baseball games over the years and some things just don’t change. I will go out on a limb and say very few major league players know how to bunt and can be relied upon to do it successfully. This is not a new phenomenon. While at Dodger fantasy camp around 18 years ago (has it been that long), this question came up in a discussion with Reggie Smith, a Dodger coach at the time. He said you cannot make a major league player do what he does not want to do. He did not go into any details. So asking a player who is paid to drive in runs to bunt does not make a lot of sense. The idea is to put the player in the best possible situation to succeed. If bunting were that easy, we would see more players do it. Look how often a big hitter comes up and the third baseman plays deep. He knows that player will not bunt, even in bunt situations. There will be exceptions but normally you would not expect to see Adrian Gonzalez or Matt Kemp bunt. Of course, Puig has speed so I would not be surprised to see him attempt a bunt once in a while. And speaking of Puig, he still has a lot to learn about this game but he just made a spectacular catch in center field. I still think he will win more games with his talent than he will lose with his mistakes.

  86. messagebear says:

Andre is totally useless to this team any longer. I’m sure he would clear any waivers, and we really ought to let him go for both his sake and our sake. Let’s get a couple of prospects and give Andre a fresh start someplace else before the season is over.

  87. Personally I really liked Roberto Hernandez’s performance today.

  88. crash24now says:

I guess Puig knows how to bunt after all.

  89. He better get Wilson out of there.

  90. zonadodger says:

Wilson just plain sucks..Uribe should of had that GB

  91. crash24now says:

…here we go with the Beard…

  92. This game seems to be sinking away…

  93. After all that it’s hard to believe we’re still alive.

  94. crash24now says:

    Fear the Beard!

  95. griz says:

Fear the Beard is right! BS situation to have the game in hand and have to have Jansen come in for a two inning save. Just when you thought it was OK to back in the water.

  96. zonadodger says:

    RBI Machine

  97. zonadodger says:

    Adrian

  98. The BIG MAN get’s his no. 83 a big one for A-Gon..

  99. zonadodger says:

    I hope Wilson,Perez r gone next yr..Just my opinion

  100. zonadodger says:

    Let’s do this Kenley

  101. I hope he pitches around Freeman.

  102. Maybe we lucked out on Freeman’s double.

  103. Whatta game.
I know these games have to take a toll on my life.

  104. zonadodger says:

Nice going Kenley…I’ll take 3 out of 4

  105. crash24now says:

Amazing Dee Gordon scores four runs in one game. Three RBIs for A-Gone.

  106. 32and53fan says:

Well, that easy win turned out to be a nail-biter with the Braves taking it right to the end with a chance of a walk-off homer. Jansen was struggling with lower velocity and command, but he managed to gut it out. Time for a happy flight.

  107. crash24now says:

    Five and one-half games ahead.

  108. koufax1963 says:

Was Puig waved on to home by Bundy? Why not slide, at least there was no collision.

  109. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, win streak!!!!

Ethier and the Beard sucked big time…

Note to Dildon, don’t use BWilson in close games. This team could go a long way, but, I don’t see them winning it all with their current bullpen….. Fix it Ned, Fix it……….

  110. griz says:

I thought sportscenter was going to show us how Puig was thrown out at home, that was hinted before a commercial break, but they showed the catch only. I was wondering about that one myself.

  111. griz says:

I’ve got to believe Ned is working the phones to come up with some relief. I do not think we can rely on Perez or Wilson.

  112. oldbrooklynfan says:

This 6-3 road trip and fact that the Dodgers are 15-8 against teams with a winning record, since the All-Star break, has really boosted my confidence as far as the Dodgers are concerned.Things are really looking up. That’s coming from me, who usually has trouble seeing the bright side.
