Howdy, Dodger Outsiders 🙂
Way to go Scotty!
Nice homer by SVS.
Bad inning for Haren and Zack Cozart almost put the Reds ahead. Tie Game.
Very sloppy.
Even Turner was surprised wih his RBI
Nice going Fed-Ex.
Now, let’s hold them, Haren.
It always seems like when the Dodgers score, the other team also scores.
They’re hitting Danny pretty hard.
I was hoping for that HR.
Van Slyke now has 6 HRs and 11 RBI
Thank goodness!
Haren was O.K. but looked to be tiring.
J.P. does his thing.
Very nice.
WOW 543 DP.
On Hamilton, to boot!
YES 123 DP.
That should help.
WHEW!
How League got out of that, I’ll never know.
Dee Flash is fleet.
So far so good.
Yes…way to go! Now, hopefully the Nats can knock off the Giants!
Woo-Hoo Tru!!!! Win streak….Scotty loves you……
Actually well managed by Dildon…. He got Haren out of there at the right time.. Price for Cincy, obviously left his pitcher in for one batter too long…
True!
WE WIN
At least we are at the point in the season when we can drop the “It’s early”. Good win tonight.
Yes Birk.. Thank You… It is not early… It is time to get down to business… Or, go home…..
Haren’s ability to keep the ball in the park, went a long way towards obtaining a win yesterday…So did the two bomb’s from Van Slyke…
The G’nats will hit a rough spot or two this season.. All teams do…. We need to hang tough and grind out series wins.. We can still catch them… I sure would like to see them dump Crawford and Kemp, and bring up Pederson… Platoon Van Slyke and Ethier in LF… And play Van Slyke more at first some… AGon is not getting it done…
It really sucks that these guys get playing time based on their salary rather than their production…
You should have heard Nomar, Charley and Orel gushing over Matt. All night long they kept saying how he has found his swing. He must have hired them as his PR firm.
I wish I could have heard it Tru… They are homers… I hope Kemp does well enough that we can unload him. I don’t think he will ever duplicate his MVP year and I don’t care much for his attitude…. Dump him when you can along with Crawford.
Kemp’s got an attitude for sure, but if he starts swinging the bat even at 2/3 of his ceiling production, that’s still a ton more than they’ll ever get out of Ethier anymore. I’ve not seen too many ballplayers ever descend from their pinnacle quite as fast as Dre has. Ethier’s D is a whole lot better though, so its a somewhat tough call.
Dumping Crawford is a given. They can’t afford to go back to the 4 outfielder BS.
I’d like to see Pederson get his chance, but in looking at his stats in AAA, he strikes out a ton (25-30%.) I’m wondering if they’re looking at that on a team that already strikes out a ton (especially for the production it doesn’t get) and its turning him into trade fodder rather than a prospect for this regime.
Van Slyke had a fantastic night, last night and that should, if anything, make it harder for Mattingly to keep him on the bench. I think he’ll see more playing time. As for Kemp, whether he’s becoming more trade bate or not, one thing looks for sure, is that he’s beginning to hit again. With a right hander going tonight we’ll see Ethier again. I don’t know if the Dodgers will catch the Giants but it looks like they’re in a heated chase for the wild card game right now.
Can you imagine any team wanting Crawford? I can see a team wanting Kemp but to trade both of those guys with their salaries and get something of value will not be easy.
I think it’s possible to catch the giants, but a large part of that will be up to us. The West has been pretty weak, so we cannot look to the rest of the teams in our division for a lot of help. Any trouble the giants have will probably have to be created by us.
Wow, Bob Welch died. I remember when he came up. He was one of my favorites.
I just heard it…I am in shock! I liked him a lot too.
So sad. He certainly will be remembered for that confrontation with Reggie in the World Series.
After just reading a bit about Bob Welch’s major league career, I have a better appreciation of what he accomplished. I did not remember how successful he was not only with the Dodgers but after leaving.
I remember when he struck out Jackson. That was a wonderful memory for a Dodger fan. I have clippings in a scrap book. May he rest in peace, my condolances to his family and friends.
Damn, game may be rained out. Will know in 1/2 hour.
They’re now saying that it should clear up by 9:15 PM ET…………6:15 PM PT.
A nice heartfelt article:

YES Andre’.
RBI for Dre!
And left there . . . . darnnit!!
Next time he’ll hit a home run 🙂
🙂 🙂
He came close….next time, for sure.
DEE nice hitting.
…and, Hanley too!
OKAY Hanley.
Turner makes it 5-0
The guys are hitting and doing it at the right time. Exciting!!
Beckett’s quietly having a very good year.
Good to see A-GON hitting.
I wish we’d DFA Maholm!
I wish we would DFA Nedcompoop and Dildon….
And trade/unload Crawford and Kemp…….
I was surprised that Beckett was out of the game, then Maholm didn’t look good at all.
I hope we hold this lead.
What was the whole point in signing Maholm? I’d be willing to bet after this season he’s out of baseball.
What was the point in signing Perez?
We have perfectly good relievers in the minors that can do better than Maholm & Perez, yet Ned ALWAYS has to sign useless vets for the bully.
Ned being Nedcompoop!!
Yep….both Perez an Maholm are useless to us …. and, we all know Ned and Donnie are in way over their heads.
Look out Beav, Seattle just released Mike MacDougald…. Ned can get him for a song… LOL!!
Tru will love it…………. LMFAO!!!!!
And, the Dbacks DFAd Trevor Cahill 🙂
Ned must think he has gone to heaven….. LOL!!!
I’m also wondering what will happen when Billz comes back? Heard he might go to the pen.
Wow, the Reds got 4 hits in that 7th inning.
It was good to see the Dodgers win on National TV.
Good game, boys…..now, let’s see if the Nats finish off the Gnats …. 2-0 9th inning. Thanks to my home town boy, Doug Fister.
Well the Nats beat the Giants.
The Dodgers have played so many long, drawn out games ( with and without the rain delays) this season. And does anyone remember the Dodgers encountering such weather extremes with all the rain and cold?
That’s life outside of Southern California.
Woo-Hoo, win streak!! Nice outing for Beckett. A well played game by our guys…… Except Kemp… He is a mess…. Geez, I hope they don’t bring Crawford back …..
Rest In Peace Bob Welch.. My condolences to your family and friends…. You were one of my favorites… I was not happy when you left the Dodgers…..
So sad.
Yep Tru, it is… He was/is my age, 57…
Way too young.
Yep… Tomorrow is promised to no one…. Enjoy life while you can…..
This one bothered me moreso than others. Guess because he was one of my favorites and a contemporary.
Just when you think Kemp shows signs of getting it back together, he pulls out a 4K night and doesn’t look like he has a clue. How can you not play Crawford at least in a platoon with him? Crawford was at least swinging a bat before he went down.
Granted, Kemp’s woes are largely due to injuries, but how is it you can have 3 OFers whose skills have deteriorated so much in so little time? 31-32-33 year old OFers should still be at the tail ends of their prime, but Dre, Kemp and Crawford look like 37-38-39 year old hangers on.
Was anyone else as totally underwhelmed with our draft as I was? How are they going to build a farm system back up if all they draft are pitchers? Most of the guys they took high in the draft also projected much much lower. Judging by the pounding our farm system is taking this year, there doesn’t seem to be much down there. I thought the plan was to spend big now and build the farm for the future. All I can see is they’re spending big now on crap and won’t have anything better than they usually have for the future.
I haven’t been able to build any interest in anything except what is happening to the present team at this time. To me, right now that’s all that matters. We’re doing alright in the wild card standings and it look like they’re kicking up their heals on the Giants although still 7 1/2 games off the pace. I think the future will take care of itself.
Right now most of the concentration should be and is on winning as much as we can.
Lineup Against Cueto
Gordon 2B
Ramirez SS
Puig RF
Gonzalez 1B
Kemp LF
Ethier CF
Figgins 3B
Butera C
Ryu P
Don’t look now, but the Dodgers have won four of the last five. Tonight’s game will be a tough one and runs will be at a premium. Cueto has a WHIP this year of 0.792 – he gives up only five hits and two walks for every nine innings pitched.
The defense needs to make a stand and help out Ryu.
Wish Turner was at 3rd.
Agreed. Turner’s got a damn fine glove at 3B and his OPS against righties this year is .756 – not too shabby.
Are we gonna lose this one due to crappy defense at 3B and SS?
Probably gonna lose it because we can’t hit.
True. I was just hoping for some defense to forestall the inevitable.
Geez, Donnie just woke up and is starting Rojas at SS instead of Hanley. (jk)
Billingsley’s bullpen session shut down….going to doctor. He’s toast!
The rookie ump stinks!
Kemp ever the team player gets kicked out in the 2nd inning.
Not a bad thing when your D is lousy and you’ve struck out 5-6 times in a row.
Great line-up we have BTW.
Van Slyke’s chance to show what he can do against a righty.
Votto draws first blood.
Three groundhog runs for the Reds.
Cueto is pitching a no-hitter
arrright
Cueto’s gave the Dodgers a quiet time.
Well, so much for that.
Pathetic as usual.
It sure was!
Unacceptable!!!!
Good place for Maholm – mop up a game they have no hope of winning. Hope he can get an out or two before Donnie brings in another 3-4 relievers.
And Maholm’s on the team because?
Donnie likes to torture us.
Nedcompoop’s incompetence….
The Reds are giving it back to us tonight.
Butera’s specialty.
Donnie put Hanley (who was scratched late because of a shoulder problem) to pinch hit ….. wtf! If he can’t throw the ball, he sure as hell can’t swing either!!
Go figure… But, it is Dildon……
The Red’s announces are saying that the Dodgers are prolonging this game with long at bats.
Ugly game tonight.
Yep Tru, the whole team sucked tonight… Top to bottom….. I guess in the course of a 162 game season, there will be nights like this…. Just got to let it go and win today… Take 3 of 4….. That would be acceptable…….
Another fine effort to halt a three game winning streak. 16Ks. Bravo gentlemen.
Not tonight folks.
Proving Donnie’s a Yankee through and through, here’s his best Yogi Berra impersonation: [talking about Billz] “For us, it’s tough because when a guy’s rehabbing, it’s like you don’t really have him until you have him.”
Lineup for today:
Dee
JT
Yasiel
Adrian
Matt
Dre
FedEx
Rojas
Zack
Weather permitting It looks like a nice afternoon affair, ( still morning in LA). Morning noon or night the only thing that’s important is to win.
It’s nice to have the Dodger feed.
Good start. Way to go Kemp.
Damn, we’re trailing 2-1 quickly.
Need moar runz
Boy, it sucks when your #7 hitter is hitting .123, because you’re not confident that Rojas can hit better than that. Might as well let Greinke be the #7.
This team is beyond boring….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Well, the offense is trying…but no results so far.
The Dodgers can’t seem to do much. Between Cueto last night and Simon today, I don’t know.
Unusual, Kemp and Ethier doing something in the same inning.
This opportunity collapsed into the black hole known as the 7-8-9 holes. Will AJ Ellis improve the offense coming from the catchers? Stay tuned…..
I’m ready for the Fed-Ex experience to be over.
There’s probably one more inning left, forget about the 9th.
Now Puig!!
Agon might be our last hope.
no dice……….
Ughhh.
That should make it a little harder..
Let’s not blame this loss on Brandon League. The full blame should be with the inept offense.
Maybe if they score some more we won’t see Chapman. (lol)
Maybe Fed-Ex knows something.
Well that’s it.
AGon-boring…Kemp-boring…Hanley-boring…Andre-boring…Mattingly-extremely-boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Game.
Not a terrible road trip, 4-3. Sure was fun winning three games in a row with six runs each.
This one hurts a lot more than yesterday, because it was a close game all the way through, and yet, it seemed a certain defeat with the no offense lineup.
Puig has gone cold. Gordon isn’t what he was in April. Gonzalez back to slumping. FedEx awful. Rojas can’t contribute.
This one was a big stink-fest.
Actually, I’m the opposite Crash, I had more confidence in the Dodgers hitting Simon, than I did in them hitting Cueto. I had no confidence at all in them hitting Chapman even though he was a little off on Thursday.
I was out running errands all morning, feeling sad I wouldn’t be able to watch the game. However, as it turned out, I ended up having a better day not having to endure another loss. My phone’s scoring updates was plenty!
Wow, our blog has regressed to 2011. I wish we could go back and undo the incredibly bad trade/deal with Boston…. That was/is one of the stupidest trades in baseball history… Supposidly to get AGon… We took on Crawford and Beckett… Beckett has been marginal and sometimes good when he was available… He basically missed a whole year due to injury and nursed the Dodger tit… Crawford is just a complete waste. He sucks now and his contract has a ways to go….. And now, AGon sucks.. He was supposed to be our big gun for many years…. Geez!!!!
This team is a wreck……………………..
The blog regressed because management regressed. Due to Frank McCourt, the Dodgers needed a huge turn around. What turn around expert comes in and keeps the same management? Ned and Donnie should have been fired Day One of the new ownership. I’m now in Bear’s camp on this one. The Guggenheims are idiots. I’ve got to give it to Bear, he was the first one to recognize the shit pile as it came in.
I think if the Giants didn’t get off to such a fast start we wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in. At the moment the Dodgers are actually doing very well in the wild card race. I know that many of you see the wild card as inferior to the division race and that could be because, for one thing, it’s usually mixed in with the division standings and usually you have to look it up to see a clearer picture. I think the race for the wild card game should be listed separately from the division races and start from game one and not wait until nearly the end of the season..
.Personally I don’t think a division winner is any better than the wild card winner.
Yet another issue with Donnie’s management style. E got me thinking on this one. Why do our 30-33 year olds play like they are 39 year olds?
Take a look at Uribe for example. We’ve got a pretty good bench player named Turner who can handle third base. So why not give Uribe a day off every week? Same for Gonzalez. Same for Hanley.
Just don’t give them days off all at the same time (like Joe the Clown’s Sunday lineups). Also, don’t give the starters days off when we’re playing the Giants, or whoever is in first place.
Yes, the division race counts for a lot more than the wild card. If you’re a wild card winner, you play a one game play-in to get into the regular playoffs. That means:
(a) You’ve basically got a 50% chance of getting into the playoffs, while a division winner has a 100% chance.
(b) You mess up your rotation, because you have to use your ace in the play-in game.
I haven’t heard one word from any player praising Mattingly. I feel they’re not very interested in playing for him anymore…turns out he likes to confront his players in the press and that gets old.
