I also noticed last night that Orel mentioned our TEAM batting average against lefties is bordering on the Mendoza line ….. can’t blame Dre & CC for that, since Donnie loads up on righties (I guess he doesn’t pay attention to stats) Matt and Hanley are the worst of the bunch!

I come home, eager to turn on ESPN2 for the Dodger game, and somehow, Time/Warner has succeeded in the game being blacked out—and it’s being played in NEW YORK. Guggenheims and Time/Warner, go f**k yourself. By the way, I haven’t seen Vinny on TV since the Rose Parade.
I waited all DAY for the game; was SO excited at the thought of watching our beloved team. ESPN even had a special camera setup on Puig to show his top plays, too. And when Outside the Lines came on instead of the game, I almost threw something at the TV, I was SO MAD! Nobody would have lost any $’s if the game had been televised. Where’s the good will in all this anyway? Oh, I forgot – it doesn’t exist any more – it’s not good business.

Last night I watched the game on ESPN. After the very first Met batter was put out in the bottom of the first inning, the camera that was focused on Puig, caught him asking if there were 1 or 2 outs. I don’t know if he was just trying to look busy, or he didn’t realize that only 1 batter had come to the plate?
I’m starting to think there is a hierarchy problem with this ballclub. I read that the mood after Withrow was sent down was less than one of approval. Not that I approve of the move myself. I also read that Hanley has a gentleman’s agreement with whomever, that he won’t be used at third base until he can no longer play shortstop. We’ve heard Kemp claim he wouldn’t stand for being platooned. Again, I’m not saying that Hanley, or Kemp have invalid arguments. Just that whatever happen to doing what it takes to win a ballgame. I’ve also seen players fail to acknowledge the sign from the third base coach and look back to see what is happening instead. Last night, Hanley and Gordon both went after a pop fly hit just beyond the pitchers mound, more towards the second base side. Gordon was eventually called off, as Hanley made the catch… But the look on Gordon and Hanley’s face was a little disturbing to say the least. Olivo became so taken back by a younger players inability to accept his command that he chewed the guy’s ear off… literally!
Regardless of whether they win or lose…I have been unimpressed by this club and it’s leadership as a whole.
I hear what you’re saying and have to agree with your take on it. I do think that this comes back to the manager, because he lets it happen, so you have your favorites who have that tacit agreement, and then you have the rest of the ballclub
I too was one of those people who could watch last night’s game on ESPN. One of the very few games available anymore. I live way out of the LA AREA. I too deplore the idea that the game on ESPN was not made available for the fans in the LA area, and on what pretense, since the game was in New York. This is all a big collusion between MLB, Time Warner, and even ESPN I assume.
Bear, I feel terrible coming on here and reporting that I have visual of the games…when most of the rest of y’all, don’t!
I have made my feelings felt on the homepage several times.
If it makes anyone feel better, even know I have a brand new, very capable computer…in which to view the SportsNet L.A. feed. It skips, loops and goes black more times than I care to count. I find it odd that the other teams feed, doesn’t do this. Hence the only reason I watched ESPN last night. Makes me so happy I spent the extra money to be able to choose which teams stream I could watch. A lot of times I just close my eyes and listen to Vinny. You know like you used to be able to do for free.
I can just about say…I enjoyed Gameday with no audio, highlights and the Doobie Brothers during the game. If it wasn’t for Vinny, I could!
Miguel Olivo, ear biter, is no longer a Dodger.
I know I said I wouldn’t be back for a month, but since most of you are making the same observations I am, I felt like chiming in.
Olivo finally put an exclamation point on what’s truly ailing this organization – total apathy. Apathy in losing. Apathy in the fundamentals. Apathy to entitlements.
It sounds like Olivo had a right to be upset about the general play at Alb. There’s no excuse for lacking in paying attention and to the fundamentals when you get to a professional level. None. And certainly not at AAA. The fact that Berryhill condoned what was going on on the field just proves something that we’ve witnessed for years – that Dodger management at all levels is seriously lacking in take charge leadership skills, and appear to have a general malaise in their chosen profession and towards achieving results period.
In the case of Berryhill, and Donnie, and Ned, and now Stan, none appear to look in the mirror and ask themselves if they’re doing their very best at their jobs. You can’t demand the best of someone else if you don’t demand the best from yourself. Ned’s gotten away with bad and terrible decisions for damn near a decade, yet no one’s called him on the carpet for it. Quite the opposite, they’ve rewarded him. Donnie was handed a job without earning it, then whined his way into an extension. Is he really any better manager now because he’s not a lame duck? Stan was a baseball genius or so we heard, but look at the mess he’s created with the TV deal and extending those other two yoyos.
The symptoms of this organization pop out all over the place. The disease though is systemic. Personally I’d do what I proposed several years ago and scuttle this dog and start completely over. You couldn’t possibly do any worse.
Yes indeed, the malaise is all over the place all right – just look at the fact that every one of our minor league affiliates is under water this season. Is there nobody in this organization capable of playing seriously winning ball? Where’s that so-called investment in our farm system?

I wasn’t trying to contradict anything you have stated… I happen to agree with it. I just believe that Time Warner wouldn’t agree to much change.
Now onto the players…
I think its time we admit, both management-wise and we as fans, that these guys just don’t have a championship in them. That goes for Kemp, that goes for Andre, and that goes for Martin, Loney and LaRoche before them. Whatever they had that was special, or could’ve been special, has long since passed us all by. The only two on the current team I think give a crap about playing real baseball are Kersh and Greinke, and they only play in 40% of the teams games for 75% of those games.
I’m starting to wonder if Schumaker and Punto left because of the money, or because being hard nosed give it your all ballplayers, they just wanted out of this pansy organization.
Its time to seriously start getting rid of players who won’t do this or that and get some in that play as one unit and leave it on the field each and every day. If that means getting rid of every damn one of them, then so be it.

Is this really a tough decision…and if it is, maybe due to the politics involved. It shouldn’t be. If someone bit my ear off in the workplace…my decision would be pretty easy to make.

We all know that Gordon can’t hit lefties and that the team in total sucks against lefties. How about the switch-hitting Figgins? Well, this year he sucks against lefties, but in a small sample size – in seven plate appearances he has one hit (a double) and no walks. In his career, he hits .257 with a .330 OBP against lefties. So that’s kinda Juan Pierre-ish. Donnie should keep his butt on the bench and use him just as a pinch hitter.
Wh-ear is Gu-ear-ear-o? He should be playing 2B against lefties.
I see they finally released Olivo. 2 days later? I’m not sure, but I really don’t think there’s any justification for biting off a person’s ear at a baseball game that you need to take 2 days to pull that trigger.
Olivo is yet another one of Ned’s “character” vets. Nevermind he walked out on his team last year and had gone after Reyes a few years ago. Who would’ve thought the guy was maybe a little, shall we say… fucked up? Not Ned evidently. Well, another hat’s off and an, “Ears looking at you Ned.” Well done.
I figured Olivio was a goner when he bit the multimillionaire. The only Cubans you’re supposed to bite are cigars.

Maybe that is one reason why the club is not in a hurry to extend Hanley. If there is an agreement that he is to play ss, maybe they are just letting the contract run it’s course and eventually get one of the new Cubans with the better gloves take his place. I think so-so defense at that position will eventually let you down. I’d be talking to him now about 3rd base. Not an immediate change, but get him used to the idea. If that is possible.
Hanley’s performance in 2014 as compared to 2013 has deteriorated on both offense and defense.
I’d keep Guerrero playing shortstop, because Hanley will be gone after this season. Hanley won’t be willing to sign short term, and we should have enough shortstop prospects what with Guerrero, the extra long name Cuban, and Seagar. In fact, if we can get anything worth while, I’d give up Hanley to somebody else in July. If Kemp doesn’t improve his attitude and his power rating, I’d trade him off too.

I suggest Donnie and his coaches explain the fundamentals of baseball to a raw product like Puig…you know, things like the infield fly rule. Last year they had an excuse of having a huge amount of injuries through May, and when the line-up got healthy (and of course they got an injection of enthusiasm when Puig arrived) they started to take off.
Where is that going to come from this year? Line-up’s been pretty healthy all year and is so fixed there’s no one they could bring up if they wanted to (not that Ned ever wants to.) The answer is, there isn’t.
Turns out that this season isn’t the aberration, last season was.
I think you are right. If Puig didn’t show up, Donnie would have been fired and perhaps Ned too. Then, a whole new ball game.
Let’s hope we can at lease take this series from the Phillies and improve our won and loss record. Also let’s hope Kershaw finds himself tonight.
