    Geez, Donnie, who is missing?

    Oh yeah, Carl Crawford!

  2. crash24now says:

    Dear Donnieboy:

You have an easy problem to solve.

Problem: Which of the four outfielders to play?

Solution: Matt Kemp is capable of being an MVP. Play Kemp. Don’t play Crawford. Crawford is a Proven Veteran Loser (PVL). Case closed.

I was at last night’s game and for some reason I felt all along the Dodgers would find a way to win. But they found a usual way to lose. I think Donnie let Perez hit in the 8th because of the lack of bench players and the Dodgers were potentially facing another extra inning game. We all know why the Dodgers are in this position and until the starters can stay in games longer or the relievers are more efficient, the situation will not change. Some have suggested sending up Grienke to hit but why risk an injury to him in that situation? The real problem was all the runners left on base and Agon’s error which all led to Wilson. When Wilson left the game he tossed his glove away in the dugout and headed down the steps toward the clubhouse. This team was built on Wilson in the 8th and Kenley in the 9th but they can’t pitch every day.

Mattingly thinks the players will decide who plays and usually this is true. However, since none of the outfielders are hitting the ball well or with any consistency, Donnie will decide who plays. He knows this does not allow any of them to get any consistency so this “good” problem as it has been called may not be so good after all. Kemp still does not look good at the place and Ethier is struggling to keep is average over the Mendoza line. Crawford’s arm reminds me of JP and so far he is hitting like JP.

It is still early in the season to panic and the division still does not have a dominant team. But clearly the way the Dodgers are playing has to change.

I’m noting that the Dodger Insider has some interesting blog articles, but for blog comments it draws practically no-one. Weisman is doing a good job, and I understand that the Dodgers employ his services. I’ve seen an occasional comment by our own oldbrooklynfan, but it’s unbelievable that it has so little real fan interest and comment. It’s kind of like the Dodger Cable Network – good content but few watchers. Just another Guggenheim creation!

  5. crash24now says:

That’s what I like about this blog, the OTD blog. We can say whatever we want, and we pull no punches.

Well, here’s tonight’s lineup. Donnie is making a baby step by moving Crawford down in the lineup. Just pull the plug and stop playing him already!

    Gordon 2b
    Puig rf
    Ramirez ss
    Gonzalez 1b
    Kemp cf
    Crawford lf
    Uribe 3b
    Federowicz c
    Beckett p

    • enchantedbeaver says:

What? Did Ethier shit in Donnie’s Wheaties again?

I notice a nice reward for Butera too after probably the first game he’s ever gotten two hits – the bench. You’d think his name was Martin or something.

  6. Dodger4life says:

    I was thinking

    Olde, E

When it began to hit me…

    I agree with ya’… Olde, E!!

  7. Dodger4life says:

    Puig hit one…

  8. Dodger4life says:

High fastball in the wheelhouse… from Beckett!!

  9. Dodger4life says:

Same pitch at the knees… of the wheelhouse…. from Beckett!!

  10. crash24now says:

Beckett is unraveling. Bring up Zach Lee!

  11. Dodger4life says:

Heck bring up, Bo Duke and the General Lee… Daisy can come and keep score…

  12. crash24now says:

Go, go, go, go, go! Go Dee!

  13. Hi Everybody.
Well looks like a beginning of a slugfest.

  14. crash24now says:

    PUIG!!!!!! RBI time!

  15. Dodger4life says:

    Tied it up…
    .
    Evening, OBF.

  16. crash24now says:

Hanley gets us started, now let’s bring him around!

  17. crash24now says:

Wow. Beckett made it through seven innings. A little rough at the beginning, but he has done a nice job.

  18. crash24now says:

Freakin FedEx can’t even bunt. What a c___.

  19. Gordon, Puig & Ramirez.

  20. Brooklyn boy Ottavino…just too much.

  21. crash24now says:

    A-Gon, Kemp (and CC)

  22. enchantedbeaver says:

    What an offensive juggernaut.

  23. First place at steak.

  24. enchantedbeaver says:

I doubt FedEx could get a hit off Joyce Brothers.

  25. 32and53fan says:

Nobody wants to be a walkoff hero. What happened to clutch hitting from our side?

  26. crash24now says:

Well, that could be the ballgame. We gotta sit here and wait to see.

  27. crash24now says:

    Hanley, A-Gone, and SVS

  28. crash24now says:

Game Over – League coming in. Ugh. A new Mr. Game Over.

  29. Damn Still trail by one.

  30. crash24now says:

A-Gon gets two back, but we’re still behind.

  31. crash24now says:

That’s it. Four losses in the last five games. Bye, bye, first place.

  32. Well at least there weren’t any errors tonight.

  33. kahliforni says:

Sure hope Donnie has another 42-8 up his sleeve…this year’s start is boringly similar to last season’s………..

  34. grizzy says:

Why can’t these guys lose in just 9 innings? Until the over priced outfield starts to produce consistently, I guess we’ll just have to be patient with the over worked, ineffective bull pen and losses in extras.

    • I think the sad part, to me anyway, beside the poor defense is that the bullpen hasn’t been living up to it’s fine reputation. The offense? Well we’re use to this. But I have to say that 4 runs is not too shappy for this team.

  35. lbirken says:

One would hope the Dodgers would figure out a way to win or lose games without going into extra innings or playing long drawn out marathon games. Perhaps that is the problem; too many late games eating into their sleep patterns.

So how does everyone feel about instant replay reviews so far this season? We had two the other night and both took way to long. We were wondering about the poor soul in New York who has to stay up late for west coast games. Anyway, both calls were upheld and IMO both were upheld correctly.

    • Dodger4life says:

Birk the replay’s haven’t bothered me too much. It is nice when they actually change a play. Perhaps to speed things up a bit, they should declare a play being challenged upon stepping on the field. Otherwise forfeit the opportunity.

      • Dodger4life says:

The home plate rule bugs me more… How about if a catcher doesn’t want to get hurt blocking the plate…He could simply play 1st or 3rd base.

  36. Dodger4life says:

How many times did the Boys fail to hit the ball farther than 40 feet or so last night??? Dink! Dink! Dink! They stink!

  37. Dodger4life says:

Matt Kemp arguing over…not a close play at a base that was game changing, yet, a called 3rd strike from an umpire with past history. Wasn’t good use of team leadership, or even team play in my opinion, but somewhat selfish. Way to fight till the end Matt.

  38. Dodger4life says:

It was nice to see Beckett settle in… Sure wish he could avoid the occasional pitch in the heart of the strike zone!! Tulo teed off as soon as he seen that one coming, got on it quickly he did!

  39. Dodger4life says:

I dozed off for a bit and missed Brian Wilson contributions…

  40. grizzy says:

    lbirk
I agree they are taking too long, but I think it is too early to tell how effective they will be in the long run.

  41. Dodger4life says:

42-8, mostly games played on the road… Not happening with this ball club Kahli.

  42. Dodger4life says:

I’ve been saving that 24oz Olde, E, since St.Paddy’s Day.
    .
In high school 40oz of the stuff run ya’, 99 cents.

I think I may need some more old school, Olde, E, wisdom for tonight’s game.

I vow to take a sip every time enchanted speaks up… In the event of a song… I will shotgun one.

  43. enchantedbeaver says:

Take away 7 wins and 1 loss against a dreadful Snakes team and these guys are 6-10. Eerily similar? I’d say friggin’ exact.

Nothing good ever happens to this team until enough players get hurt and Donnie HAS to settle in with the same guys day in and out. You can’t keep rotating and platooning guys in and out and batting them up and down the order and ever achieve consistency and a hot bat or two that can carry a team. Pick your damn best players and play them. You’ll know when they need a rest. Christ, I’m 53 and wouldn’t need the rest these guys get, and I sure as hell couldn’t hit any worse than FedEx (who however is still hitting above Donnie’s IQ.) The bullpen wasn’t anything last year until Donnie finally took League out of the closer role. Here’s a clue Donnie – don’t pitch League OR Wilson until they can prove worthy of anything other than mop-up. And quit changing pitchers just because its “their inning” to pitch. They still have plenty of time and a weak division to put it together, but no team’s going to have a 42-8 run again, especially these under achieving prima donnas.

And while I’m at it, just once I’d like to think that when we have a runner at second and no one out that our hitters could be better than their pitchers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAZQ0uJ3i_M

I just haven’t figured out if we’re the monkey or the football.

  44. Dodger4life says:

    Gulp-gulp-gulp-gulp!!

  45. I’m happy about it but how come this games starts an hour earlier?

  46. Already 0-4 w RISP.

  47. That’s how it’s done.

  48. crash24now says:

Score Dee or I give up.

  49. crash24now says:

Matt Kemp he’s the man, if he can’t do it, nobody can.

  50. crash24now says:

    Puig!

  51. Puig’s hit was the first one with RISP 1-7.

  52. trublu4ever says:

    YO…ADRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. A-Gon get’s that run right back. 8th HR.

  54. crash24now says:

    A-Gone! WOW!

  55. enchantedbeaver says:

Thought I’d check back in. Surprised Maholm’s made it through 5.

Nice DP started by Dee. What’s up with Hanley?

  56. All we care about is that the Dodgers are winning but do you know that they’re only 1-10 with RISP.

  57. enchantedbeaver says:

Got to give him credit, Maholm is pitching a good game.

I’ll give Donnie a little credit too in that he’s letting him pitch (or is that more because someone’s mandated he not use the bullpen so damn much?)

  58. Withrow seems to be a little wild, not good.

  59. Look out here’s TULO.

  60. YES…way to go Withrow……

  61. enchantedbeaver says:

All part of Withrow’s master plan so that Kenley doesn’t have to pitch to the heart of the order in the 9th.

    Damn this kid’s good.

  62. crash24now says:

Ducks on the pond, Uribe! Bring them in!

  63. enchantedbeaver says:

All part of Donnie’s master plan to create a save situation for Kenley…

    • crash24now says:

How long does the “master” let the charade go on before he takes out the Bearded One?

      • enchantedbeaver says:

Looks like we’re going to be able to add yet another one to Ned’s shitty acquisitions list.

        • crash24now says:

The Bearded One was not too bad for the first 13 2/3 innings, but then Ned signed him to another contract.

          • enchantedbeaver says:

Isn’t that always the case though? 2 good months equals big contract next year? How many of those have worked out?

            Well there’s Lilly… League… oh nevermind.

      • crash24now says:

The Bearded One “pitched carefully” to Morneau because first base was open. 🙂

  64. It’s up to Kenley.

  65. crash24now says:

Tying run at the plate. Thanks, Bearded One and Donnie Baseball.

  66. crash24now says:

    Yes! WTG Jansen!

  67. enchantedbeaver says:

Jansen – US (Unearned Save), 2

    Thanks Donnie and Wilson!!

  68. trublu4ever says:

    Whew….time to exhale!

  69. crash24now says:

Somehow, this win does not give me the warm and fuzzies that we have a good chance of winning tomorrow, even though Ryu is pitching.

  70. crash24now says:

    Puig hitting .417 w/RISP (10 for 24).
    A-Gon hitting .321 w/RISP (9 for 28)

    Rest of team hitting .192 w/RISP (32 for 167)

  71. Dodger4life says:

I’ve noticed that Ethier has 13 RBI’s… third highest on the team. Right behind Puig with 14 and A-Gon with 22. Surprisingly he hasn’t hit any doubles yet this season.

    • Dodger4life says:

Andre has 15 singles and 2 home runs… with a total of 70 at bats.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

Well worthy of an $85M extended contract – NOT.

Kasten was supposed to be a smart baseball guy, but both Dre and Crawford need to be put out to pasture, not playing for this team into their twilight, especially at the expense of a 5-tool player in Pederson.

There’s a certain amount of irony in this though. Now Dre’s the old hasbeen vet that’s going to keep the more talented rookie from getting playing time.

        • Dodger4life says:

One would think Pederson would be contributing as much, if not more than what the other two have been so far.

          • Dodger4life says:

Has platooning caused further regression??? Has Andre changed his approach? Is he just not seeing the ball well? Doubles were a big part of his game.

          • trublu4ever says:

Well, you two don’t have to worry…he’s not playing today. SVS got the call. One day in, one day out, doesn’t help much as far as I’m concerned.

          • Dodger4life says:

I’m not worrying as much as I am wondering… why, when and how they get Andre’s game to pick up. Crawford’s game never interested me all that much to begin with. Young Joc, though, I’m eager to see play.

I hear ya enchanted… Didn’t Mattingly say time will tell us when Hanley needs to play 3rd. The way he has performed at short so far speaks volumes there as well.

  72. oldbrooklynfan says:

This should be quite a game today with Dodgers seeking their 10,000 win and needing to stay as close as they can to the first place Giants.Preferably moving past them with some help from the Indians.Ryu is a good guy to have out there.

  73. trublu4ever says:

Well…this lineup is tearing it up! 😦

  74. trublu4ever says:

Sure am glad Scott is in there instead of Dre….way to go Donnie!

  75. messagebear says:

Is this the most overpaid team in history or what?
How would you like to be paid at these rates for nonperformance?
I wonder how the other Guggenheim employees feel about that?

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Pathetic. Guess at Guggenheim you can whine or pout your way into a contract or raise. Worked for Dre. Worked for Donnie. Hanley’s next I’m sure.

I was talking to Dodgereric the other day and opined that Moneyball had its day and was the fad. Why doesn’t somebody try 70’s old school? 14 position players, 11 man staff (though in the day it was 15/10, but I’ll make the concession to nobody’s going with a 4-man rotation), and you put your best players out on the field day in and day out. Ample bench to carry PHers and a third catcher. Whatcha think bear?

      • messagebear says:

I’m all in favor of the old style of play ball and team makeup –
in fact, I’m in favor of pretty much anything except this extravagant style of pampered and overpaid ballplayers, but I guess the pendulum swings one way until it stops and then swings the other way. The Guggenheims have found the extreme, and they’re not exactly going where they expected. I don’t know where they expected to get with the likes of Ned and Donnie. Ned never could resist giving up the big contracts, and Donnie never inspired anybody that I could name. Just a different kind of ballgame!

  76. Dodger4life says:

This is what Andre and Crawford will be paid for their pinch hitting duties today
    .
$222,222.00 or about $14,814.00 per ft.! Considering one of them hit a ball that traveled about 5 yards today.

  77. kahliforni says:

No player knows if he’s playing, and no player knows where he’s hitting if he is playing. Donnie D’Antoni.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Instead of trying to make all the players happy, how about making 8 happy and pissing a few off? Maybe the one’s left on the bench would try a little harder to earn a position, and the one’s playing everyday could get a little consistency.

      Nah, too radical.

      • trublu4ever says:

Won’t happen with Donnie at the helm. He has the knack of making everyone unhappy. And, pissing off the fans at the same time.

  78. grizzy says:

The lackluster performance today had me turning off the TV after we batted in the 8th. Yard work was more interesting than this game. To be sure, there are a few bright spots, but this team is flat right now. Hard to believe a person can make that much money and play like this.

  79. Dodger4life says:

    http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Minneapolis+MN+USMN0503

Arizona, Australia, California, and now the frost of Minnesota

  80. JhallWally says:

Unacceptable!!!! From, the game today/yesterday down thru the management and OWNERSHIP!!!!! The fish stinks from the head down…………..

  81. kahliforni says:

Donnie Baseball is too nice…to timid to be able a handle a team with too many players and too few positions. He’s not much of a teacher or a leader…he’s a pretty good bureaucrat, though.

    • messagebear says:

Yeah, he also spins a lot of bullshit, which is the natural language of the Guggenheims. No wonder they all get along great.

  82. I missed most of the game yesterday, I saw the first inning than left and return before the last of the ninth. I didn’t miss anything. Ryu wasn’t at his best and the Dodger made 3 more errors and were around there present normal selves going 1 -8 w RISP. Here’s hoping Greinke can get them starting winning more often.

  83. kahliforni says:

No offense the snoozing Dodgers and their TV blackout, but the LA KIngs are such a fantastic watch right now. Beat the No Cals!!!!!!!!!!

  84. Here’s hoping Geinke can crank up the ol’crart.

  85. crash24now says:

I don’t think we’ll get this game in today.

  86. kahliforni says:

Mother Nature saves the pitching staff…

  87. JhallWally says:

As I see it, Crawford should be the odd man out.. He sucks… Both on defense and offense…. Puig and Kemp should start everyday with VanSlyke and Ethier platooning in LF…. Just eat the Crawford contract… You knew when you took it to get AGon that it was a bad deal.. Just eat it now and get him out of here…..

  88. Their not even sure they’ll get this game in tonight, but Greinke still holds the key.

  89. crash24now says:

Which idiot would choose to put Crawford in the outfield over Ethier when both are in the lineup?

  90. trublu4ever says:

Fed-ex back to AAA….Miguel Olivo up….Billz to 60 day DL (surprise, surprise!).
