Dodgers in Desert

I guess the Dodgers can’t get enough of the Valley of the Sun.  After spending half of February and most of March there, they are back again.

Last year’s squabbling between the teams may not be forgotten,  but it’s doubtful that either team wants any more of that.  The place for revenge is on the field and in the box scores.

    Just A Reminder:

The Dodgers PR department creates a nice set of information for each game. When you see a photo of Vinny’s table, these and other pages of related information are spread out in front of him, ready to be incorporated into the broadcast. Listening to Vin seamlessly weave all this knowledge into the game between pitches, you know you are hearing a master at work. When you heard Eric Collins call a game, you heard a guy reading stats off a page.

Click The Game Notes link on this page (in the MLB.COM OFFICIAL LINKS box) for information about tonight’s game.

    Hey everyone…
    2 -0 on a Gonzo bomb!!!
Wouldn’t it be funny if someone rented out those seats behind home plate at Chase Field and wore regular sweatshirts, then in the 9th inning took them off to reveal Dodger Blue…

  5. I had to follow the game on Gameday as I was unable to bring MLB.TV up. Finally the Yankee game which was on the same channel has ended and I can watch the game.

  6. This game seems to be moving at a very quick pace, at the moment.

  7. Dodger4life says:

An average of 14 minutes per inning…on pace for a 2 1/2 hour game.

  8. Very good start for Ryu.

  9. WOW Wright was fantastic.

  10. What a game …All Dodgers.

  11. crash24now says:

Great game for Ryu and A-Gon. Hanley is also getting hot, which is a fantastic sign for this offense.

Dee Gordon just keeps hitting. Dee has (I hope) transformed himself into a real MLB player.

    • I really enjoyed that article, Crash. I can see Puig maturing and adjusting to what pitches are trying to do to get him out. Actually, in my opion, he just may be a better hitter now than he was last season.

  12. Good news: Giants lose.

  13. Hi Everybody
Let’s move up one on the Giants.

  14. lbirken says:

    Adrian es enfuego.

  15. lbirken says:

Kahli, sorry about the tease from the previous post. I hesitated saying anything at all about my conversation with Loften. He spoke about suspected PED use and named a specific player and he also spoke about offering his help to a player who more or less rejected his help. If I had a way to contact you privately I would tell you what he said.

    • kahliforni says:

That’s alright. I think it’s cool he opened up to you. I was half teasing you about the tease. On a selfish note, come Tuesday, with the Dodgers in SF, I am REALLY going to be pissed off at TWC and the Dodgers brain trust. Those games are just too much fun to watch.

  16. They hit Greinke hard in that 5th inning.

  17. Greinke labored but a good outing nontherless.

  18. It’s good to get at least 1 more run.

  19. So Donnie put League in with a 6-run lead as mop-up man. So far, I wouldn’t trust him to mop my kitchen floor. He’s doing a lousy job.

  20. Come on Kenley, let’s finish it up.

  21. trublu4ever says:

    Thank-you Kenley!

  22. Hooray Kenley! He’s back!!

We’re in first by one game.

  24. enchantedbeaver says:

We need a new stat for Kenley – US – unearned saves for when he has to come in after League’s given up a 4+ run lead mopping up in the 9th.

  25. grizzy says:

There does not seem to be any situation to use that guy.

  26. Let’s just hope we sweep the D’backs and put them further back in the standings.

  27. lbirken says:

I suppose it was too much to expect League’s problems to have disappeared with his performance so far this season prior to last night’s appearance. Will Donnie use League again in anything other than a total blowout? Can they afford to keep him on the roster taking up space if Donnie is reluctant to use him? Is Donnie reluctant to use him now?

  28. lbirken says:

I see Ethier is in left field. Did he play any left field last season? I did see him working a bit at first base at Glendale when we were there.

  29. crash24now says:

If Withrow goes to Albuquerque when Wilson comes back, the complaining will be almost…almost… as loud as the complaining about SNLA/Time Warner.

  30. crash24now says:

Haren gets himself out of his self-induced jam.

  31. trublu4ever says:

    Kemp unloaded on that one!

  32. crash24now says:

I am not looking forward to Beckett and Maholm pitching against the Giants. I can only hope that Beckett will have improved the location of his pitches since his first start.

  33. trublu4ever says:

  34. crash24now says:

A-Gon is a monster. Three straight games with multi-RBI home runs.

  35. crash24now says:

I am enjoying the new-found (??) running game by the Dodgers. Let’s just say that it’s been a long time since we’ve seen this type of running offense.

  36. crash24now says:

Haren is starting to unravel. Let’s see if he can put out the fire by himself.

  37. crash24now says:

Two runs in. At least now the bases are clear.

Whoops. Three runs in. Get him outa there.

  38. crash24now says:

You give up a double to the opposing pitcher, and you get to keep pitching? I don’t think so. Where the heck is the bullpen today? We need a good long reliever.

  39. crash24now says:

Yay for more offense. Now we need some outs defensively.

  40. There’s power. There’s running. A sweep of the teabags! Life is good.

  41. crash24now says:

Home run by the hot Uribe. Sweet series sweep!

Now on to SF where we have to endure Beckett and Maholm.

  42. I picked up the game with the Dodgers leading 8-3, (on MLB.TV) I didn’t know how tough it was to get there until I read Kurnick’s column on the game. After watching Trumbo hit that 3 run homer I was very uncomfortable the rest of the game.
Our pitching has been shaky the last two games but fortunately our bat’s made up for it.

  43. Nellyjune says:

Nice to get the sweep against the DBacks! Went to see the Quakes play the Modesto Nuts (Rockies affiliate) today. I wasn’t intending on going there to be a Dodger fan (more of a baseball fan), but the Dodger fan in me couldn’t help but cheer them on. Dodger fans were well represented there, which was nice to see. Quakes won 7-4. Hope all is well. Hopefully the Dodgers take the day off to figure out how to get at least 2 out of 3 from the hated ones. It always makes for better days around here. Beckett and Lincecum should be interesting to say the least.

    • JhallWally says:

I am with you Nelly…. Gotta get 2 of 3 from the Gnats..

Regardless of the outcome, it is sure good to see/read you here….. Becket.Against Lincecum should be real interesting.

Both are a mere shell of what they used to be…. I think they are both yesterdays fish wrap….. A couple of rag arms trying to hang on… I just hope our used up arm is better than theirs….

    • It’s almost hard to believe that this stuff is taking place in this day and age. It’s unthinkable, when looking at Puig, in the outfield or at the plate in a Dodger uniform, that he had to actually go through what he did to get here. But he did, which makes us thankful we are here in this country.

    • kahliforni says:

Very emotional and eye-opening. Makes me wonder when Puig will finally be “free” from all this; I worry for his safety, and I don’t mean his self-inflicted wounds.

  44. crash24now says:

    More offensive firepower coming…

Alexander Guerrero was 6 for 7 with two homers in his first two games in AAA.

    • trublu4ever says:

If he is coming, who is going?

      • crash24now says:

He’s not coming yet. But good question on who would be going. With a five man bench, it’s a process of elimination…

Not the second catcher. Not the fourth all-star outfielder (unless one is hurt). Maybe Scott Van Slyke, but not likely – he’s too much of an offensive threat? That leaves Turner and Figgins.

My choice would be Figgins, despite Ned’s love affair with the Figs, based on his OBP of .571 (small sample size – seven plate appearances).

  45. I’m pretty sure we’ll have another article by game time tonight but I have to sign in here before I can make comments on “Dodger Insider”. Why I don’t know but that’s how it is.

  46. crash24now says:

No Kemp in the lineup tonight.
