As we begin this series word comes that Charlie Manuel was fired. Ryne Sandberg is interim.

    • 32and53fan says:

A couple of years ago Charlie is the toast of the town. Now, he is persona non grata. Baseball is a cruel business.

      • trublu4ever says:

It sure is! Why not wait until end of season.

        • 32and53fan says:

They wanted to see how Ryne Sandberg does, but that is really not fair to him. It would be better if he could come to spring training and let the player’s know what his managing philosophy will be. I guess they figured that the players already know him since he is the 3rd base coach.

  2. crash24now says:

    Good riddance, Dee Gordon.

    Welcome back, Scott Van Slyke

  3. trublu4ever says:

Also hearing Gordon optioned and SVS is back.

  4. Hi Everybody
Has anyone else noticed that the Dodgers have four batters in their lineup tonight with exactly six homers. Van Slke, Uribe AJ & Mark Ellis.

  5. trublu4ever says:

    I C U …..WOO-HOO!

  6. lbirken says:

Ramirez continues to show why he is so valuable.

  7. crash24now says:

Hanley is fully back. Nice tater.

  8. crash24now says:

Uribe going for the in-line cycle.

  9. crash24now says:

Greinke’s got it going, worked out of a troublesome fourth.

  10. Whew!! Beli went right after him.

  11. ZonaDodger says:

    WTG boys

  12. trublu4ever says:

    Wonderful!

  13. vl4eccjr says:

    NICE!!!
Here’s hoping Kersh gets some run support tomorrow!

  14. Which one of you guys made this Faustian pact?

    Thank You!!

  15. grizzy says:

It wasn’t me. I’ve been back from vacation two weeks and they are still kicking ass.

  16. Hi OTB
Can they keep this winning streak alive along with this tremendous winnig stretch?

  17. crash24now says:

Thanks to Mayberry’s error, the offense has a quick start. Let’s get some more runs for Kershaw!

  18. crash24now says:

    Smooth going for Kershaw.

  19. crash24now says:

What’s up with the baserunning today? First it’s Uribe, now Puig with a TOOTBLAN.

  20. Two bad base running attemps, one by Uribe and one by Puig.

  21. Makes a big difference when you have pitchers that can hit.

  22. crash24now says:

Kershaw provides some run support for himself!!!!!!

  23. vl4eccjr says:

    WTG Kersh!

  24. Clayton now has 7 RBI.

  25. crash24now says:

    Score so far:

    TOOTBLAN’s: 2
    GIDPs:3
    Kershaw RBIs: 1

    Dodgers 2-0.

  26. crash24now says:

Despite losing the perfect no-no, Kershaw has still faced the minimum number of batters.

  27. Damn. Another baseruning mistake.

  28. IT IS A HOME RUN…….OH BOY.

  29. vl4eccjr says:

    BOOM!!!!
Uribe just gave a lot more run support!

  30. trublu4ever says:

    WoW!

  31. trublu4ever says:

18 shut out inning by our pitching staff…..fabulous!

    • JhallWally says:

      Woo-Hoo, Tru streak!!!!!! The boys luv’ya Tru….

What can I say… They are on a historic run…. Didn’t see it coming.. Very happy that it did however. Just gotta stay healthy and focused. The Blue Kool-Aid is tasting mighty good these days…. Don’t get too drunk on it, there is a long way to go… We’re looking really good, but, like I stated earlier, we have to stay healthy and focused on the ultimate prize.. A WS championship…

Right now I would predict our Dodgers against the Detroit Tigers… Tough match up…….

I would still let Nedcompoop walk…. He’s a baffoon!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe that’s what they want. A sycophant yes man.. I don’t believe he has the final say on any deals… At least I’m hoping he doesn’t…

  32. 42-8 Ties Cards & Yanks in ’42.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/18/sports/baseball/marty-adler-curator-of-the-brooklyn-dodgers-legacy-dies-at-76.html?_r=0

RIP Marty Adler well he did died on Tuesday but it still a part of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

  34. I am so sorry to hear of Marty Adler’s death, thanks for letting me know Nedisajerk Marty was very popular in the downtown Brooklyn area and I would assume in New York City. I once met him at the Brooklyn Historical Society in 2005 where they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1955 World Championship. I never new him personally, My deepest condolences to his family and friends, It will most likely be in my morning newspaper.

  35. crash24now says:

What an incredible run. Ten straight wins. 25-3 since the All Star Game. 42 wins in the last 50 games.

But think about the flotsam that the Dodgers had to play with earlier in the year, due to injuries. Guys that just don’t fit on the current winning team:

Luis Cruz, last played June 19, BA of .127
Dee Gordon, last played May 26 (not counting that last ugly one week stint), BA of .208
Justin Sellers, last played June 10, BA of .188
Ramon Hernandez, last played June 12, BA of .208
Matt Magill – last pitched June 9, WHIP of 1.988, 9.1 walks per 9 innings
Ted Lilly – last pitched June 4, 1.609 WHIP, refused to go to bullpen
Matt Guerrier – last pitched June 28, ERA 4.80
Peter Moylan – last pitched June 28, WHIP 1.941

    • It’s no coincidence that the team has played better since the players on your list have been either traded, released or sent down. The chemistry is awesome and the confidence level is high.

  36. grizzy says:

What’s a GM to do? There’s a charismatic power arm waiting in the wings and another reliever with a multi-year contract the manager doesn’t want use unless you have a 5 run lead. The younger relievers with options are too good to send down, and you need Van Slyke right now.

I’ve got to admit it’s a little hard for me to comprehend the way the season started and the way it’s going now. The reasons for bad start and turn around are out there to see, but in 55 years of following baseball, I haven’t seen anything quite like this.

  37. Dodger4life says:

With all the history breaking stats that have been shown and with most, if not all of these teams having been to the World Series, in the subsequent year they set them. It is has become a reminder that- A) We haven’t finished what we have started. B) Without finishing this off with the presentation of The Commissioners Trophy, we are just having fun in the sun.
    .
As much as I would like to see the Boy’s win 100 games, and I think this is possible. Taking care of the division and our health, is first and foremost. So, if the 100th game came during the post season and came with a parade. I would be just fine with it.

    Do Work Son…

Have a Wonderful Sunday & Think Blue, Everyone.

  38. trublu4ever says:

    My boy went yard…yay!

  39. lbirken says:

Dodger4life, I agree that while this has been a fun run so far, the goal is to win the division and go deep in the playoffs. All the pieces are working right now but as the players know well, there is still unfinished business.

  40. lbirken says:

And on another note, I am so glad the Dodgers do not have a mascot running around between innings and in the stands. I concede some of them might be funny and entertaining at times but I hope the Dodgers keep things the way they are at Dodger Stadium and continue the mascot free environment.

  41. crash24now says:

Hairston brings Every Day Dre around to score!

  42. lbirken says:

The TV guys were talking about who might be the Dodger MVP and the usual names came up with Puig, Ramirez but no mention of Ethier. While Andre may not have big numbers, his play after moving to center field has been nothing short of terrific. He gets some timely hits, has played much better than anyone could have expected (perhaps except him) defensively, and plays smart. All of this from a player many of us were convinced would not even be a Dodgers at the trade deadline. Maybe it is true some of the best trades are the ones that never happen.

  43. crash24now says:

    Ruh-roh. That’s Ruf.

  44. crash24now says:

Nice work by Beli and Paco. Now let’s get some runs!

  45. We’re in trouble now . . . .

  46. Thanks League! NOT!!! He’s not ready for prime time pitching.

    • lbirken says:

Sorry, but League has done a good job lately and he threw two ground ball “outs” there did not result in an out. Yes, he gave up a key hit but to a hot hitter. The Dodgers did not score enough runs to win today and did not have the magic.

  47. crash24now says:

    Hanley drops the ball. Bleh.

Oh, well, it’s still a series win. On to the next one.

  48. grizzy says:

Can’t hang that one on League.

  49. lbirken says:

Wow, tough day for Hanley and the boys. Time to start a new win streak tomorrow.

  50. kahliforni says:

Didn’t watch much of the early game, but I found it curious that Donnie would move Hanley from the clean-up spot for reasons I’ve yet to corral. I’ve always felt the fewer changes one makes to a batting order, the better. Just because Gonzalez is resting doesn’t mean you need to reinvent the order. Hindsight, perhaps, but Hanley and Yasiel were a combined 0-8. I know that the 42-8 run has anointed Donnie as a genius and the greatest manager since Connie Mack…but it’s days like today that frustrate me with him…and always will.

  51. kahliforni says:

Hanley has put up MVP numbers batting 4th. Why tinker???

  52. crash24now says:

    D-backs beat the Pirates in 16. We’re only up 7 1/2 games.

  53. koufax1963 says:

A bit early for MVP talk, but A-Gon should be considered for the dodgers, during the good, bad and ugly he consistently delivered.

  54. I missed today’s game, it was sad to see that they lost, but you can’t win them all as the law of averages sees to that. Well it’s time to put that loss behind them and start anew.

  55. JhallWally says:

Boo-Hoo, losing streak… Very disapointing way to lose… You can’t win them all.. I think the boys can lace them up and come out tomorrow and start another nice run… We’ve got the pitching to avoid long losing streaks… This incredible run was going to end at some point and our Dodgers are going to come back to earth…. We just need to win series’ from here on out and we are in…..
I think we can take the NL. The team that scares me is the Detroit Tigers… What a matchup…..
