North by Northwest

After a terrific start to the 2nd half by sweeping the Nats, the boys traveled in the direction of that great Hitchcock flick to continue their winning ways across the international border.

    Tonite’s lineup:
    Crawford LF
    Puig CF
    Gonzalez 1B
    Ramirez SS
    Ethier DH
    AJEllis C
    Schumaker RF
    Uribe 3B
    MEllis 2B

Thanks to another regression in Kemp’s baseball instincts for not running out the play, not scoring another run, injuring his ankle, and keeping his bat out of today’s lineup.

  2. trublu4ever says:

I was hoping he’d be well enough to be the DH.

  3. kahliforni says:

In defense of Kemp, if he’s running full bore on the play–up by seven runs with two outs in the 9th–and he tweaks his hamstring, everyone would be calling him an idiot. So he “cadillacs” on the play and hurts himself anyway. Can’t win for losing. Maybe Donnie should have pulled him after he walked…I understand the AB in search of a cycle, but given Kemp’s history of hammy problems, maybe a runner might not have been a bad idea…but hindsight is always 20/20.

  4. messagebear says:

You can wonder one way or the other on Kemp’s running play.
My take is that Kemp can be a great hitter, but he’s got some missing parts between the ears. He’s never been my favorite on the team, but that’s another story.

  5. 32and53fan says:

OK MLB…how ’bout giving Kemp the MVP award he should have won in 2011?

  6. Well Kemp is again not playing and you can say, “What else is new?” and that no longer is. The good news is the Dodgers are winning. Let’s hope they can continue that.
Hoping for a good outing from Ryu.
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!

  7. messagebear says:

Now they just need to ban A-Rod for life; and cut off his nuts too.

  8. Nice inning but I hope Uribe and Hanley are O.K.

  9. Nice Ethier with two doubles.

  10. vl4eccjr says:

That lying & cheating sack of shit Braun cut a deal! He should be suspended for 100 games minimum, and surrender his MVP award!

    • trublu4ever says:

Exactly how I feel….and, so do the guys on MLB Network.

    • JhallWally says:

Exactly!!! We all knew he was a lying, cheating fraud. POS!!

      • trublu4ever says:

….and, that POS got off easy! Can’t stand the guy…knew he was a fraud from the last encounter.

        • JhallWally says:

I agree Tru… And, what about the guy who he got fired who carried the sample? He should sue for defamation and wrongful termination. Will Braun make amends with him.

Also, if he had any hint of regret, he should personally deliver the MVP trophy to Matt with an apology…

The bastard is not truely sorry about using. He is sorry that he got caught… And he did get off way too easy…

  11. lbirken says:

So Ryan Braun is gone for the rest of this season. What bothers me most about all of this is his self serving denial he did anything wrong when originally suspended and after his successful appeal. And Bud Selig is proud that baseball is as clean as it has ever been. Of course it is Bud because you and MLB choose not to do anything about this problem a long time ago until threatened by Congress. It will be a good day for baseball when Selig leaves office.

  12. crash24now says:

Looks like today is all about AJ Ellis and Dre! Lest we forget Ryu.

  13. Nice to see 3 RBI from A.J.

  14. trublu4ever says:

  15. Ryu didn’t look too good in the first two innings and the Bluejays have finally got to him.

  16. JhallWally says:

Lets go Dodgers!!! Keep this ship going north in the standings….

  17. I hope Ryu settles down.

  18. I’d feel a lot better if the Dodgers could score some more runs.

  19. lbirken says:

I’d feel a lot better if Puig would play now like he did when he came up. He looks terrible at the plate.

  20. trublu4ever says:

That Blue Jay announcer keeps calling Schu…Shoemaker 😉

  21. I feel a lot better with these extra runs with the way Ryu is pitching.

  22. Ryu really struggled tonight.

  23. An HR for Schumaker.

  24. kahliforni says:

    I’d feel a lot better if Kemp wasn’t scheduled for x-rays now…

    • trublu4ever says:

I heard he will only miss 3 games.

    • kahliforni says:

“Kemp is expected to have X-rays on Monday night, but the team believes he does not have either a fracture or ligament damage. Manager Don Mattingly said Monday he was less optimistic that Kemp would avoid a return to the DL. He said the team hoped to have a clearer picture of Kemp’s status Tuesday.”

  25. vl4eccjr says:

Wow! What a game for A.J.!!
    WTG Schumaker!!
Seems the Dodgers really like Blue Jay pitching!!

  26. Puig and the adventures in the outfield continues . . . . amazing!

  27. trublu4ever says:

Well done boys…now on to watch our arch rivals.

  28. ZonaDodger says:

    Nice win boys

  29. vl4eccjr says:

    Go Cubs!

  30. enchantedbeaver says:

1st place – whoda thunk it 5 weeks ago?

  31. koufax1963 says:

Can you say “first place Dodgers!”

  32. trublu4ever says:

    I love the feeling!

  33. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, first place…. Unbelievable……

A month ago this team was dead in the water and sinking fast.

I had figured that I would be rooting for the Reds and Indians over the summer… Now, happily, I can root for my favorite team……..
Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Clause……………

  34. messagebear says:

Ryan Braun is just another example of the total farce associated with Bud Selig and the whole MLB establishment. Cutting any kind of a deal with that lying bastard piece of shit is total abandonment of principle – no surprise where Selig is involved. They’re making it out like Braun is some kind of forthcoming hero to accept the consequences and promise to be an outstanding citizen when he returns. He’s only forthcoming because he was CAUGHT. He’s a lying piece of shit because he’s a lying piece of shit, PERIOD.

  35. Yes First Place is a nice feeling and now all the Dodgers have to do is try to stay there. If they can keep playing the way they have been it’s in their own hands.
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. crash24now says:

Watch out, Dodgers fans. Carlos Marmol has just joined the team. I just threw up a little bit.

  37. lbirken says:

When did MLB become “Let’s Make a Deal”? If Braun violated the rules he should be punished according to the rules. But more he should be punished for lying about it. MLB owners, players and leaders should be ashamed of themselves for not taking this issue head on a long time ago. Not only are players from the so called steroid era tainted but every current player is still suspect. The good news is now finally some current players are voicing strong opinions on what should be done. I wish past players would have taken up the cause a long time ago. I fear this issue will never go away.

  38. crash24now says:

Kemp’s ankle is still swollen 48 hours after injuring it. Ouch, that hurts.

  39. Ready to role, Let’s go Dodgers keep it up.

  40. crash24now says:

Puig has K’d eight times out of 15 AB’s since the ASG break.

  41. trublu4ever says:

Too bad Cappy seems to be our weak link ….more often than not.

  42. Andre cuts the lead in 1/2. Way to go.

  43. YES Mark Ellis ties it.

  44. DeRosa really belted that one.

  45. They’re really spanking Cappy around.

  46. I’m glad to see Capuano out of there tonight, but I seen the Mets beat Marmol on a walkoff not long ago at Citi Field.

  47. trublu4ever says:

Good grief…I hope the Marmol experiment is over!

  48. ZonaDodger says:

Thanks Ned for Marmol…I agree tru this needs to be Marmol’s only appearance

  49. ZonaDodger says:

  50. trublu4ever says:

  51. ZonaDodger says:

  52. messagebear says:

I think we’ve found the team on which we should be able to unload Capuano, Lilly and Marmol. Why isn’t Ned up here in Toronto?

  53. trublu4ever says:

By the way…the gnats lost 9-3 in their 1st game of double header.

  54. BELA BELA Belisaria.

  55. trublu4ever says:

Wow…what a fabulous come from behind win!

  56. enchantedbeaver says:

They keep this up and even I may become a believer.

    • lbirken says:

Interesting how winning changes the mood.

      • messagebear says:

Well, I still want heads to roll, but at this point Ned and Donnie would be sufficient.

        • trublu4ever says:

I agree….we won last nights game, in spite of Donnie….he tried to throw the game by putting Marmol & League in there….but, luckily for us, the boys pulled it out.

          • enchantedbeaver says:

Hopefully the Marmol experiment comes to a quick end. The guy sucks. I admit it was a low risk and potentially high reward move, but its only low risk if Donnie’s not stupid enough to use him in critical situations, which we all of course know, he is.

This is what pisses me off more than anything about Ned and Donnie. Ned just has to get a veteran no matter how well a youngster is pitching, but worse than that is Donnie (like Joe before him) thinks he HAS to use him even though its apparent to all that they’re washed up. Proctor, Dessens, League, Dotel, Marmol, the list goes on. And heaven forbid they actually do we’ll for a few weeks because Ned will sign them to another three years.

I agree with Bear, both of these knuckleheads need to go, the sooner the better.

          • JhallWally says:

            Dildoes will be dildoes…….

  57. JhallWally says:

Yep, it sure looks like they figured out what was wrong with Marmol….. Not!!!!!!!!!

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Hey Wally! How you been brother?

You know what else pisses me off? Ned will go out, waste more prospects and pick up another “experienced” reliever when all he has to do is call up Albuquerque. They’ve got a guy who has ML experience in high leverage situations, has over 25 ML saves, is on the 40-man roster already, and has a shiny mid-2s ERA which is pretty damn good for Albuquerque. His name is Guerra.

Not a big fan of Javy, but jeez, he’s better than Marmol for godsakes.

  58. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, win streak……. A nice improbable win… I’ll take it….

Let’s just hope Dildon is not going to rely on League and Marmol……Two wasted roster spots in my opinion……….

  59. kahliforni says:

Ned always likes shiny new things…even if they appear tarnished to everyone else. Don’t blame Marmol for nearly sabotaging the game; he should be pitching in AA or AAA trying to “find it.” Ned and Donnie decided it was time, not Marmol. I still think Marmol can turn things around and at least be decent. But the quick decision to promote him is a head scratcher. Maybe Stan and the boys wanted to find out if he’s worthy before the trading deadline and thus, having to look elsewhere. At least Ned didn’t bite on K-Rod; thank heaven for small favors……..

    • 32and53fan says:

Kevin Kennedy said that if Dominguez didn’t injure his quad, they would have left Marmol in the minors to keep trying to find his command. Both he and League can still throw 94-96 so it is a shame if they cannot regain their control. Kennedy said Marmol has a flaw of leaning over that is very hard to correct. With a lot of luck, maybe some coach can work with them. Maybe Koufax would accept the challenge since he is on the payroll. He knows first hand what it’s like to throw hard with erratic control.

  60. lbirken says:

Last night’s win might have been improbable and I would not have been too disappointed with a loss because now I believe the team will bounce back. But what excites me more is the confidence level the players now have to come back from a deficit.

Clearly Donnie still believes League can do the job or hopes each outing will be better. Not quite sure what to say about Marmol yet but maybe it is better to see what he can do now while the team is playing so well. I think it is safe to say the Dodgers will rely heavily on Kenley Jansen the rest of the way so they need to find a way to keep him fresh.

  61. trublu4ever says:

    Matty on 15 day DL……Lilly back…..UGH!!!

  62. kahliforni says:

In my most humble opinion, Lilly is off the DL and reinstated for one reason: to trade him before July 31…or to trade Capuano. One, surely, is soon to be an ex-Dodger. Why else carry two soft-throwing, junk lefty PVL starters?

  63. Hi
I Think we’ll have a low scoring game tonight.

  64. Dodgers draw first blood. Though I thought there’d be more.

  65. trublu4ever says:

Way to go CC & Puig! Keep the runs coming.

  66. The Dodgers are up to their old tricks, 1-8 w RISP.

  67. Now it’s 1-12, I hope this doesn’t affect them mentally.

  68. The Dodgers better start clutch hitting before it’s too late, now with the game tied..

  69. It seems strange to me, seeing Donnie taking Nolasco out at this time.

  70. We’re in a strange position for the first time in over a month. Who’da thunk it?

  71. ZonaDodger says:

Should be up big in this game…RISP….Will see

  72. trublu4ever says:

  73. ZonaDodger says:

    Yes Mark

  74. ZonaDodger says:

  75. trublu4ever says:

  76. ZonaDodger says:

    love it

  77. trublu4ever says:

I just love this team and the way they never give up!

  78. ZonaDodger says:

    Nice come back boys…Reds next

  79. If this is a dream let me sleep.

  80. Unbelievably awesome comeback win! Can we actually start to believe in this team?

  81. vl4eccjr says:

    Wow! What a road trip!

  82. lbirken says:

Amazing! 10 road wins in a row, a first for the L.A. Dodgers. And another come from behind win. Do I dare say, this is how a championship caliber team plays? I was concerned that the All Star break would adversely affect the momentum. Glad to be wrong on that one. And did you notice how Puig showed a lot more plate discipline tonight? That is two games in a row where he drew a walk before a hit that drove in huge runs. Great team effort and even a good performance from League. This is certainly a lot more fun!

  83. enchantedbeaver says:

Just like earlier in the year when we were on that end of the stick, bad teams find a way to lose. Bonehead play by Rasmus lets us back in the game, then a good team says thank you and puts it away next inning.

    What’s up with League?

  84. koufax1963 says:

Wow! This is looking like a world series team, Im enjoying it now, and I think donnie must of given the troops the gung -ho, lets win this in august, because who knows who else hits the DL. Right now, Im offering tequila shots, because we deserve them!

    • lbirken says:

Not sure Donnie is doing anything different except now he has Hanley out there everyday, the upstart Puig’s energy, and a rejuvenated Andre Ethier.

  85. ZonaDodger says:

Reds is going to be a tough series…Cubs kicking the DBags tail….Sucks about Tim Hudson….Just saw replay

  86. The Dodgers are 53-47 after 100 games, the same as they were last year.

  87. So much fo RISP 2-17 tonight.

  88. Nellyjune says:

What a fantastic sweep that was!!! Way to go Dodgers!! ⚾💙⚾

  89. The Cubs just beat the DBacks. We’re up 1 1/2 games!!

  90. crash24now says:

A fantastic ninth inning last night. Puig gets on, then our two most consistent hitters (A-Gon and Hanley) both strike out. Ethier brings us right to the brink, sitting on a 1-2 count. Then, bang, he gets the needed hit, and with Rasmus help of an error, there’s no stopping Puig from scoring from first base.

I give it up to Ethier. Even though he had a slow start, and still not much power, his hitting has really come on strong in July. The A-Gon/Hanley/Ethier middle of the order is really working well. That’s the secret to a 23-5 run since June 22nd. Oh, and the fact that Hanley is hitting like a mad man. Every ball he hits is smoked.

  91. crash24now says:

What with the travel and the time change, I’m expecting a lineup for tonight that looks like:

    Punto 2b
    Puig rf
    Gonzalez 1b
    Ramirez ss
    Ethier cf
    Uribe 3b
    Schumaker lf
    Federowicz c
    Greinke p
