With the lineup Donnie is putting out there, I feel sorry for Zack!
Let me just say….No CC….No AJ…..No Dre……Cruz, Ramona and Hairston get to play.

I think that is a good decision, but I also thing another would be to DFA Cruz. I like him, but he just isn’t cutting it this season.

Donnie wanted righties against Wilson…so, CC and Dre both out…AJ just because he needed the night off. I hate this! What happens if, say, Wilson gets hurt and has to leave in the 2nd inning? I really don’t like Donnie!

I feel sorry for Kemp. He feels pressure to be “The Man” on the team. He looks absolutely lost at the plate and his countenance indicates that he is scared, a big change from 2011 when he was full of swagger, even if he did swing and miss. He needs to be benched until he gets his vision checked and does some pitch recognition drills.. Either that or he makes an offering to Jobu.
I feel sorry for him too. I don’t like the booing either. The only player of our I ever booed was Andruw….because he didn’t care.

I too don’t have much sympathy for someone being overpaid so greatly compared to his current performance on the field. In the modern era I guess the fans have their right to express disappointment in a manner that would have been unheard of many years ago when the pay was miniscule by comparison and players pretty much stayed with one team for all of their careers – then you could consider fan loyalty regardless. Whether it’s fair to single out Kemp for booing may be another matter. If he’s really trying and can’t yet perform because of his recovering shoulder issues, maybe it’s time to examine why Dodgers keep playing him every day if he’s not really ready. I personally wouldn’t pay to see him at this stage, and I can appreciate those who pay such a high price for their tickets wanting to boo the idea that they’re not getting their money’s worth. You think the Guggenheimers are listening? I doubt it, as long as the stands are filled.
So, F U Kemp, and just live with it until you start hitting them out of the park.
The look on Kemp’s face when he struck out the last time was a cross between a scared little girl and a deer caught in the headlights. It must be a crushing blow to his massive ego to know that, no matter how hard he tries, he can’t lay off the low and outside slider or curve. Bear is right…when the money factor is thrown in, one can’t feel too bad for Kemp, or Uribe for the last two years. Like Liberace, they feel horrible about their inability to perform and cry… all the way to the bank.
Though this will never happen, because of the players union, I would like to see the compensation system completely turned on it’s head. Pay the players a guaranteed salary, starting at the MLB minimum, increasing 3% per year of service. Then add performance bonuses negotiated between MLB and the Players Association, including positive bonuses for factors like Avg, OBP, Slugging, OPS, etc. And negative bonuses (penalties) for errors, avg with RISP, bonehead baserunning mistakes and the like.
Do the same thing with pitchers stats. Figure out a way to measure good team play that doesn’t show up in the box score, like hitting behind the runner to move him over a base, and things of that nature.
Of course defensive skills must be rewarded too as does marketing and community skills.
With that system in place, a rookie phenom like Mike Trout or Bryce Harper could earn megabucks right out of the gate. There would be no situations like Andrew Jones or other star players making big money based on past performance.
Free agency could still work by allowing teams to increase bonus rates for multiple years and thereby attract star players.
I agree… I would like to see some sort of normalcy, when talking about compensation of the workforce… I think a better system could be implemented.
You make a great point 32and53fan. Something which you’ll get very little argument with, but I, for one, don’t see that ever happening within our lifetime. Change like that would take a long time.

I just read that Kemp has been cleared for increased lifting. I assume this will increase his bat speed and help him wait on the ball a valued split second longer. It was getting to the point lately that he appeared just to be swinging, in hopes of making contact.
Which I also assume can be more demoralizing, than all the boo’s coming from the home seats!

I am also assuming that if you are trying to get a jump on a fastball… especially one with increased velocity, an offspeed pitch will be that much harder to recognize… Just like anything else, after so many unsuccessful attempts at something, it becomes more and more frustrating. I don’t feel sorry for Matt, he hasn’t completely given up. I don’t think for a second he is just mailing it in every game, although he clearly has been struggling. I have faith that he will rebound soon…
If someone would have told me before the season started, that Kemp would be applauded at the Phone Booth in S.F. and boo-ed at Dodger Stadium. I would have thought, that someone had been sampling the psychedelics that grow in the moist rain forest.
I will agree that part of the fun following this great game and our favorite and non favorite players, is in displaying our approval/disapproval in how it is being played and or managed.
The Dodgers aren’t out of it yet… There is a lot of fun left

Last night’s game was full of excitement and I hope it’s a sign of things to come but I think the 21-28 won and loss record is the most important thing right now. This is what this team has to improve, namely to get to the .500 mark before anything else can be accomplished.

Baby steps for sure. I recall hearing that the 2 spot in the lineup is the place for hitters to get well because the number 3 hitter is usually the best one in the lineup and nobody wants to put anyone on ahead of him. Therefore, the number 2 hitter would see more strikes. If one sees more strikes, it is reasonable to assume that hits should follow. I dunno – I’m just a dumb fan . . . .
A lot to talk about today. First, I was at the game last night and it bothered me a lot to watch Matt Kemp look so bad but it bothered me more Dodger fans booed him. It is not like he committed a crime or got caught with drugs. You remember the fan Matt befriended in San Francisco? According to an article in the paper today he flew that fan, his brother and father down for last night’s game. He did not have to do that but he did.
Kemp has plenty of help on the Dodger team and staff. He knows he is struggling and we all know he wants to do better. Do you sit him? The guys on the post game show were talking about dropping him in the lineup.
As for last night’s game, I have to admit as a fan, it was a highly entertaining game to watch even if the quality of play lacked. There were a lot of Angel fans so there was a lot to cheer for both sides. I too was concerned at the lineup and figured it would be a big topic here but as seems to be the case, these fractured lineups seem to work more often than not. It was painful watching Kemp strikeout 4 times but rewarding to see Agon and others get some key hits. If you like doubles, last night was tailor made for you. Josh Hamilton made some key catches in right field and the Dodgers overcame 3 errors (could have been 5 but for generous official scoring). Will this win give the Dodgers some momentum? One can only hope.
I think the discussion about how to better compensate players is interesting and it does seem as if performance would be a better way to pay players. However, it could be an issue having benchmarks that are in the control of team management such as plate appearances, innings, starts, and so forth. But it does seem more logical to pay for current performance rather than past performance. I agree that it is not likely to ever pass the player’s union but it does make for interesting discussion.,

Damn! Something encouraging. As oldbrooklyn pointed out the other day. .500 should be the focus for now. Should that happen a little ground would be gained on the division leaders as well.
I don’t think we should worry to much about the standings right now, although it’s always hard not to. The most important thing is for the team to close up the win and loss collumns which are now 6 games apart at 22-28.
We’ve got 16 games within the division between now and the end of June. If we win more than we lose, the standings will take care of themselves.
It would be great to have Capuano pitch like he did on the 18th against the Braves, with some more run support and a better job by the bullpen.
Although it’s two straight victories the Dodgers still have to improve how they do with RISP.
Who will be tonight’s DH? Scott Van Slyke?

My favorite Dodger teams were from 1962 to 1966, corresponding to the year before I started Little League, to my first year of Babe Ruth League. Sweeping the hated Yankees in the ’63 series was sweet. Normally, I don’t go to games anymore, but when I heard about the 1963 World Series replica ring, I looked into the cost of attending the game on June 8.
For me, it would be about a 110 mile round trip.
Auto Club puts the cost per mile of operating a car at 60.8 cents, which totals $66.88 to drive there and back. Just figuring the cost of gas, it comes out to $22. Add $10 for parking and $20 for food and the cost is $55, using the cost of gas method. A ticket in the top deck is $25, the least expensive available. We’re up to $80. A ticket in the front row/section, a few seats to the right of home plate is $668.35! For a family of four, the “value” plan would total $215. The family that prizes luxury would spend $2,830.28 for the same game. Since they are wealthy, figure on buying a jersey and cap for Mom, Dad, and two kids and their total becomes $3,366.21 for the game. Throw in a couple of adult beverages each for the parents and some souvenirs for the children and they are over $3,500…
Currently, those rings can be preordered on eBay for under $25. I think I will buy a ring from eBay, stay home and get a better view on TV.

32and53, that’s an interesting observation on the cost of entertainment this day and age. did not seem like it was that long ago MLB was advertised as a great, cheap family activity. You used to be able to afford seeing the Rolling Stones, too.
For those lucky enough to have heard about the Stones Echo Park concert a few weeks ago, and waited all day in line, they only spent $20 to see them in a small club venue.. An even better value was to hear Paul McCartney perform a free concert at Amoeba Records in Hollywood almost six years ago.
Sometimes I wish that I lived close to a minor league team.

I’m listening to the AA game, while following the Dodgers on gameday. With the game tied in the top of the 9th, Puig hit one off the top of the wall, for a triple. He has 4 at bats tonight, with a single, a double, a triple and a strike out. The next batter Blake smith drove him in, Lookouts take the lead 4-3.
The Lookouts won for the 10th straight time, climbing back to one game under .500!
