With the lineup Donnie is putting out there, I feel sorry for Zack!
Let me just say….No CC….No AJ…..No Dre……Cruz, Ramona and Hairston get to play.

  2. Maybe prayer will help. Donnie’s lost his ever-lovin’ mind! The next thing you know, the pitchers are going to sue the batters for non-support.

  3. Tonight, I’m hoping (i always to that) that Greinke has a better outing than on his last start, showing that he’s truly back.

  4. koufax1963 says:

I love the mojo man, what’s he smoking? That will help to!

  5. I can’t believe what I just saw.

  6. koufax1963 says:

Well this line up proved itself on defense, can they hit?

  7. It’s probably a greezy ball. (LOL)

  8. Van Slyke could be playing himself unto the starting lineup,

  9. koufax1963 says:

That last inning if rather have AJ and Crawford batting

  10. trublu4ever says:

Bad enough Ramona can’t…..he can’t play his position either!

  11. koufax1963 says:

this may be a long night for the fans, and a short night for Zack

  12. It’s easy to see Greinke doesn’t have anything tonight.

  13. messagebear says:

It’s easier to root for Donnie to get fired than for this team on the field.

    • koufax1963 says:

I think donnie might help more if he hit, what do we expect from this line up with cruz, hernandez, hairston

  14. Dodger4life says:

What is the deal tonight?? Does Mattingly figure if Kemp and Andre are going to play below replacement, he will replace them with lesser talent and have them watch???

    I don’t get it???

    • Dodger4life says:

Never mind, I thought Kemp was sitting out, I’m just getting settled in?

      • trublu4ever says:

…poor Matt…he’s in there but, not playing 😉

        • Dodger4life says:

I have MLBTV tonight, but it wasn’t working, so I had to do some maintenance…I missed the first part of the game, then by the looks of things around here… I just assumed they weren’t playing! I am hoping for the best!

          • trublu4ever says:

Donnie wanted righties against Wilson…so, CC and Dre both out…AJ just because he needed the night off. I hate this! What happens if, say, Wilson gets hurt and has to leave in the 2nd inning? I really don’t like Donnie!

  15. That was a great AB for M. Ellis.

  16. trublu4ever says:

Damn, if this works, Donnie will look like a genius!

  17. The egg and potato man does it again.

  18. messagebear says:

I keep saying that Van Slyke needs to play every day, but Donnie, and maybe higher management, want to make sure that the guys with the big contracts play – whether they look like shit out there doesn’t matter.

  19. trublu4ever says:

    Luis sucks!

  20. Nothing is coming easy.

  21. I don’t think Aybar should’ve made it to 2B.

  22. Uribe must think this is the 2010 WS.

  23. That’s how it’s done AJ.

  24. Nice going Jerry Baby.

  25. Where the heck was Aybar going?

  26. Could there be something wrong with Kemp’s sight?

  27. koufax1963 says:

Absolutely, kemp just flays away at what? contacts checked. to the 9th this could be an unbelievable come back.

  28. 32and53fan says:

That’s what I said in a previous post.
This web site has a bunch of links that talk about pitch recognition and perceptual decision-making, skills that expert batters have and every one else hopes to learn. A batter only has about 150ms to figure out what the pitch is (fast ball, curve, slider, or change up) and where it is likely to cross the plate, then begin his swing.
That is why Ted Williams said that hitting at the major league level is the hardest thing to do in sports.
Kevin Kennedy mentioned that most of the best hitters had exceptional eyesight. I have known for several years, that Williams had at least 20/10 vision. He also mentioned that Mike Piazza had 20/8 eyesight.

This year Matt Kemp seems to have returned to his bad habit of flailing away at low, outside, pitches outside the strike zone. We know he wears glasses off the field and contacts while playing. Some folks are speculating that his vision may be causing some of his problems this year. He may not even be aware of it.
I have never heard about the Dodgers testing for PDM, and using training to improve it.

Pitch recognition training might be worth considering.
(One of the links at that site, is to a 20 page scientific paper about cognition and perceptual decision making. Another is a video on the same subject by the same researcher.)”

  29. trublu4ever says:

Wow…we actually had a comeback win! Awesome!

    • JhallWally says:

I was shocked….. Nice win…. Got to give it up for Gonzo and Van Slyke……. And the bullpen………… Except for Guerra, they were lights out….

      • trublu4ever says:

Javy was good for one inning but, Donnie, had to out him out there for another….we may have won the game but, Mattingly still sucks!

  30. Forget the standings.
    It’s great to win.

  31. 32and53fan says:

I feel sorry for Kemp. He feels pressure to be “The Man” on the team. He looks absolutely lost at the plate and his countenance indicates that he is scared, a big change from 2011 when he was full of swagger, even if he did swing and miss. He needs to be benched until he gets his vision checked and does some pitch recognition drills.. Either that or he makes an offering to Jobu.

    • trublu4ever says:

I feel sorry for him too. I don’t like the booing either. The only player of our I ever booed was Andruw….because he didn’t care.

      • JhallWally says:

Andrew Jones was a complete waste…. You’re right Tru, he really didn’t give a ____!

      • JhallWally says:

I can’t feel sorry for anyone making that much money… It is time to produce and live up to that contract… 0 for 5 with 4 strike outs…… 3 LOB…. Geez!!!

        • messagebear says:

I too don’t have much sympathy for someone being overpaid so greatly compared to his current performance on the field. In the modern era I guess the fans have their right to express disappointment in a manner that would have been unheard of many years ago when the pay was miniscule by comparison and players pretty much stayed with one team for all of their careers – then you could consider fan loyalty regardless. Whether it’s fair to single out Kemp for booing may be another matter. If he’s really trying and can’t yet perform because of his recovering shoulder issues, maybe it’s time to examine why Dodgers keep playing him every day if he’s not really ready. I personally wouldn’t pay to see him at this stage, and I can appreciate those who pay such a high price for their tickets wanting to boo the idea that they’re not getting their money’s worth. You think the Guggenheimers are listening? I doubt it, as long as the stands are filled.

So, F U Kemp, and just live with it until you start hitting them out of the park.

        • 32and53fan says:

The look on Kemp’s face when he struck out the last time was a cross between a scared little girl and a deer caught in the headlights. It must be a crushing blow to his massive ego to know that, no matter how hard he tries, he can’t lay off the low and outside slider or curve. Bear is right…when the money factor is thrown in, one can’t feel too bad for Kemp, or Uribe for the last two years. Like Liberace, they feel horrible about their inability to perform and cry… all the way to the bank.

Though this will never happen, because of the players union, I would like to see the compensation system completely turned on it’s head. Pay the players a guaranteed salary, starting at the MLB minimum, increasing 3% per year of service. Then add performance bonuses negotiated between MLB and the Players Association, including positive bonuses for factors like Avg, OBP, Slugging, OPS, etc. And negative bonuses (penalties) for errors, avg with RISP, bonehead baserunning mistakes and the like.
Do the same thing with pitchers stats. Figure out a way to measure good team play that doesn’t show up in the box score, like hitting behind the runner to move him over a base, and things of that nature.
Of course defensive skills must be rewarded too as does marketing and community skills.
With that system in place, a rookie phenom like Mike Trout or Bryce Harper could earn megabucks right out of the gate. There would be no situations like Andrew Jones or other star players making big money based on past performance.
Free agency could still work by allowing teams to increase bonus rates for multiple years and thereby attract star players.

          • Dodger4life says:

I agree… I would like to see some sort of normalcy, when talking about compensation of the workforce… I think a better system could be implemented.

          • You make a great point 32and53fan. Something which you’ll get very little argument with, but I, for one, don’t see that ever happening within our lifetime. Change like that would take a long time.

  32. JhallWally says:

Woo-Hoo, offensive outbreak!!!! Van Slyke is making a case to stay here… He’s doing a lot more than Kemp and Ethier….. Of course, his good performance will probably earn him a trip back to AAA… Gotta play the PVL’s that Nedcompoop over paid…..

  33. Dodger4life says:

I just read that Kemp has been cleared for increased lifting. I assume this will increase his bat speed and help him wait on the ball a valued split second longer. It was getting to the point lately that he appeared just to be swinging, in hopes of making contact.
Which I also assume can be more demoralizing, than all the boo’s coming from the home seats!

    http://www.chadmoriyama.com/2013/05/injury-roll-call-hanley-still-weeks-away-kemp-cleared-for-increased-lifting-elbert-close/

Nice, come form behind not only once, but twice, team win last night!!!

    • Dodger4life says:

I am also assuming that if you are trying to get a jump on a fastball… especially one with increased velocity, an offspeed pitch will be that much harder to recognize… Just like anything else, after so many unsuccessful attempts at something, it becomes more and more frustrating. I don’t feel sorry for Matt, he hasn’t completely given up. I don’t think for a second he is just mailing it in every game, although he clearly has been struggling. I have faith that he will rebound soon…

If someone would have told me before the season started, that Kemp would be applauded at the Phone Booth in S.F. and boo-ed at Dodger Stadium. I would have thought, that someone had been sampling the psychedelics that grow in the moist rain forest.

I will agree that part of the fun following this great game and our favorite and non favorite players, is in displaying our approval/disapproval in how it is being played and or managed.

The Dodgers aren’t out of it yet… There is a lot of fun left
      ahead…

      Think Blue and Enjoy!!

  34. Last night’s game was full of excitement and I hope it’s a sign of things to come but I think the 21-28 won and loss record is the most important thing right now. This is what this team has to improve, namely to get to the .500 mark before anything else can be accomplished.

  35. crash24now says:

If you were to drop Kemp in the lineup, what would your lineup look like? Something like???

    Crawford lf
    Ellis 2b
    Gonzalez 1b
    Ethier/Van Slyke rf platoon?
    Hairston 3b
    Kemp cf
    Punto ss
    Ellis c
    Pitcher

  36. grizzy says:

I want what Jo-boo is smoking.

    • Dodger4life says:

None for me thank’s, I decided to quit… the funny thing is though, I can’t seem to remember why?

  37. crash24now says:

Lineup – Donnie takes baby steps in moving Kemp down.

    Crawford LF
    M Ellis 2B
    Gonzalez 1B
    Ethier RF
    Kemp CF
    AJ Ellis C
    Uribe 3B
    Cruz SS
    Ryu P

  38. Baby steps for sure. I recall hearing that the 2 spot in the lineup is the place for hitters to get well because the number 3 hitter is usually the best one in the lineup and nobody wants to put anyone on ahead of him. Therefore, the number 2 hitter would see more strikes. If one sees more strikes, it is reasonable to assume that hits should follow. I dunno – I’m just a dumb fan . . . .

  39. lbirken says:

A lot to talk about today. First, I was at the game last night and it bothered me a lot to watch Matt Kemp look so bad but it bothered me more Dodger fans booed him. It is not like he committed a crime or got caught with drugs. You remember the fan Matt befriended in San Francisco? According to an article in the paper today he flew that fan, his brother and father down for last night’s game. He did not have to do that but he did.

Kemp has plenty of help on the Dodger team and staff. He knows he is struggling and we all know he wants to do better. Do you sit him? The guys on the post game show were talking about dropping him in the lineup.

As for last night’s game, I have to admit as a fan, it was a highly entertaining game to watch even if the quality of play lacked. There were a lot of Angel fans so there was a lot to cheer for both sides. I too was concerned at the lineup and figured it would be a big topic here but as seems to be the case, these fractured lineups seem to work more often than not. It was painful watching Kemp strikeout 4 times but rewarding to see Agon and others get some key hits. If you like doubles, last night was tailor made for you. Josh Hamilton made some key catches in right field and the Dodgers overcame 3 errors (could have been 5 but for generous official scoring). Will this win give the Dodgers some momentum? One can only hope.

I think the discussion about how to better compensate players is interesting and it does seem as if performance would be a better way to pay players. However, it could be an issue having benchmarks that are in the control of team management such as plate appearances, innings, starts, and so forth. But it does seem more logical to pay for current performance rather than past performance. I agree that it is not likely to ever pass the player’s union but it does make for interesting discussion.,

  40. Hey there
    Here we go again.

    • trublu4ever says:

I hope Blanton pitches for the Angels like he threw for us….if so, we should score a ton!

  41. Dodger4life says:

ESPN2 decided to show the game tonight in my area… This is a big milestone for both of us…

Ryu looks skinnier than when he first showed up??

  42. trublu4ever says:

    Ryu…double for you!

  43. With Colletti in the booth, the Dodgers show there weaknest and go 0-2 w RISP. How about that?

  44. Listening to Ned talk it seems like there’s nothing to worry about.

  45. Another shot missed.

  46. How about that Uribe?

  47. Dodger4life says:

  48. CRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUz

  49. Cruz? What’s happening here?

  50. Dodger4life says:

The Uribe and Cruz combo puts the Dodgers on the board folk’s!!

  51. AJ! We have a few new dynamic duos going tonight. Love it!!

  52. lbirken says:

Dynamic Duo of Uribe and Cruz? Who knew?

  53. Ryu was awesome tonight. A great team effort tonight. I love LA!

  54. trublu4ever says:

Wow…Ryu was awesome! Way to go guys!

  55. RYU
    Complete game shutout
    He was simply magnicent

  56. lbirken says:

What a pleasure to shut out the Angels and what a great performance by Ryu, Cruz and Uribe.

  57. grizzy says:

Damn! Something encouraging. As oldbrooklyn pointed out the other day. .500 should be the focus for now. Should that happen a little ground would be gained on the division leaders as well.

    • I don’t think we should worry to much about the standings right now, although it’s always hard not to. The most important thing is for the team to close up the win and loss collumns which are now 6 games apart at 22-28.

    • crash24now says:

We’ve got 16 games within the division between now and the end of June. If we win more than we lose, the standings will take care of themselves.

  58. It would be great to have Capuano pitch like he did on the 18th against the Braves, with some more run support and a better job by the bullpen.
Although it’s two straight victories the Dodgers still have to improve how they do with RISP.

  59. crash24now says:

Who will be tonight’s DH? Scott Van Slyke?

  60. 32and53fan says:

My favorite Dodger teams were from 1962 to 1966, corresponding to the year before I started Little League, to my first year of Babe Ruth League. Sweeping the hated Yankees in the ’63 series was sweet. Normally, I don’t go to games anymore, but when I heard about the 1963 World Series replica ring, I looked into the cost of attending the game on June 8.

For me, it would be about a 110 mile round trip.
Auto Club puts the cost per mile of operating a car at 60.8 cents, which totals $66.88 to drive there and back. Just figuring the cost of gas, it comes out to $22. Add $10 for parking and $20 for food and the cost is $55, using the cost of gas method. A ticket in the top deck is $25, the least expensive available. We’re up to $80. A ticket in the front row/section, a few seats to the right of home plate is $668.35! For a family of four, the “value” plan would total $215. The family that prizes luxury would spend $2,830.28 for the same game. Since they are wealthy, figure on buying a jersey and cap for Mom, Dad, and two kids and their total becomes $3,366.21 for the game. Throw in a couple of adult beverages each for the parents and some souvenirs for the children and they are over $3,500…

Currently, those rings can be preordered on eBay for under $25. I think I will buy a ring from eBay, stay home and get a better view on TV.

    • Dodger4life says:

      Lookouts report:

(Chris Reed), pitched 7 innings of 3 hit baseball tonight, facing the Diamondbacks AA club, the Mobile Baybears. ( Reed’s), opponent on the hill for the Baybears tonight was the #2 pitching prospect ( Archie Bradley), in the D-Backs farm system with an ERA of .079. There wasn’t a bunch of excitement in this pitchers duel. The only run being scored on a bases loaded, (Yasiel Puig) walk. (Yimi Garcia) closed it out in the 9th – 1, 2, 3, for the save.

      Box Score:

      http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2013_05_29_cngaax_mobaax_1&t=g_box&did=milb&sid=t498

  61. Hi
I got Vin on MLB.TV, for how long I don’t know, Meanwhile if any trouble I can always switch to the Angels On MLB Etra Innings.

  62. Watching Kemp racing toward the wall, I thought Aybar’s hit it out.

  63. oldbrooklynfan says:

Jered Weaver is pitching a no-hitter, everybody
    A no-hitter.

  64. oldbrooklynfan says:

    WTG Skip.

  65. oldbrooklynfan says:

Now let’s see if that was just one bad inning for Weaver.

  66. oldbrooklynfan says:

Now let see about their bullpen.

  67. crash24now says:

    Well, there is our bullpen.

  68. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Last roundup.

  69. oldbrooklynfan says:

    AGON

  70. oldbrooklynfan says:

    SCOTTY

  71. nedisajerk says:

RIP Lewis Yocum. Yeah I know I’m late but this guy was part of those TJS.

  72. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Abaaba That’s All Folks.

  73. nedisajerk says:

I hate to see Uribe hitting streak end with just 1 AB.

  74. What happened to Matt? Has anyone heard?

  75. crash24now says:

SVS is incredible. Bat him cleanup.

  76. messagebear says:

Kemp should be put on a 60 day DL to take care of his hamstring and to get his shoulder strength back to normal. He isn’t doing any good up with the club other than selling admission tickets for the ownership. Before he comes back, he should be rehabbing at ABQ for at least two weeks to get his swing back to normal. I won’t miss him. Why can’t Van Slyke play CF in the meantime – I know he would be slower, but so was Snider in his day. Even Puig would be a better option than Kemp has proven to be this season.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

Snider was slow? I don’t know about that but he sure could climb them walls.

      • messagebear says:

I’m only surmising. Snider was excellent in my book, but it was before the days when speed seemed emphasized in CF. Mays was exceptional, but I don’t remember whether it was the fastest guy on your team who played out there back then.

    • Andre can play center too.

    • kahliforni says:

bear, I’m not so sure about the 60-day DL, but I agree with you in theory. This team will not make a move with him hurting, anyway. This would be a perfect opportunity to play Puig everyday, even if only for a month…Ethier, can move to center. He’s not dashing, but he’s got a sure glove. Let’s see what Puig’s got. And bring up Zach Lee to take Capuano’s spot. Let’s see some youth during this lost summer. These guys aren’t porcelain. They’re not going to break just because Dee Gordon couldn’t hang last season.

      • trublu4ever says:

I’m hearing, even though everyone wants Puig, Joc Pederson may get the call since he is a true center fielder….averages are about the same. We shall see.

        • messagebear says:

I’ve heard that too about Pederson, but, if he is really that good, why haven’t they sent him up to ABQ. That would seem the normal progression with the way his progress has run. I don’t know that we have any legitimate major league prospect playing CF at ABQ this year.

  77. grizzy says:

32and53, that’s an interesting observation on the cost of entertainment this day and age. did not seem like it was that long ago MLB was advertised as a great, cheap family activity. You used to be able to afford seeing the Rolling Stones, too.

    • 32and53fan says:

For those lucky enough to have heard about the Stones Echo Park concert a few weeks ago, and waited all day in line, they only spent $20 to see them in a small club venue.. An even better value was to hear Paul McCartney perform a free concert at Amoeba Records in Hollywood almost six years ago.

Sometimes I wish that I lived close to a minor league team.
I had lots of fun at a Modesto Nuts (Rockies A League) game a few years ago. They have great food and beverage deals every Thursday night. Here is tonight’s fare:
      Thirsty Thursday
Enjoy $2 domestic drafts and $2 glasses of select wines from McManis Family Vineyards between 6-8 p.m. La Perla Tapatia tacos available for $2 while supplies last.
      Presented by La Perla Atlantis

Those $668.35 seats at DS are $13, and even the $6 tickets are like being at field level, several rows back.

  78. crash24now says:

Ramona is our DH tonight. Dre playing CF.

  79. trublu4ever says:

As expected, Matt to 15 day DL…FedEx called up….meaning Ramona will probably get the boot….or, perhaps, we need three catchers and Cruz will be let go. What do you guys think?

  80. trublu4ever says:

Also, just heard Pederson not in the lineup for Chattanooga…hmmm

  81. trublu4ever says:

Crap…now hearing AJ may have an oblique issue….I think we need to revamp our entire training staff.

    • messagebear says:

Well, nothing good could come from an ex-Giant named Conte – or the ex-Giant who hired him.

  82. trublu4ever says:

Now…I’m really irate….hearing Tony Gwynn Jr. may be called up…..with all the young talent…why the hell him?!

  83. Thought maybe I’d join you for tonight’s slaughter of Ted Lilly.

  84. Only Donnie could put a DH out there with a .111 BA.

  85. Sadly, the way Kemp’s been playing this year, we’re probably a better team without him.

Still can’t buy a clutch hit. I’ve never seen a more pathetic bunch hitting with RISP in my life. I truly believe the best way to toss a shutout against these jerks is to walk the bases loaded to start every inning, then watch them flail away trying to get a runner in from third.

  86. Hi Everybody.
Couldn’t get MLB.TV up tonight. I had Skully for a while on the audio but lost him when I brought OTD up
I had to wait for the Boston=Philly game to end on MLB Extra Innings and than it takes about 5 or 6 minutes to come on after the other game ends.
This will probably happen nightly so from now on I won’t mention it.

  87. Jeez I hope we don’t lost Crawford again.

  88. Chris Ianetta is a Dodger killer.

  89. I see Dre’s really gotten it going since Donnie called him out – NOT!

This team as a whole has all the backbone of melted butter. Kasten better be making some wholesale changes this winter starting with Donnie & Ned and bring in some real baseball people.

  90. Think they’ll be able to sell guys like Lilly, Cupaguano, Shu, Punto, Hairston and Uribe at the trade deadline?

And what other GM in their right mind would still have Hernandez and Cruz on the team?

  91. I swear all I did was get up to go to the bathroom ad we’re already out.

  92. Dodger4life says:

I’m listening to the AA game, while following the Dodgers on gameday. With the game tied in the top of the 9th, Puig hit one off the top of the wall, for a triple. He has 4 at bats tonight, with a single, a double, a triple and a strike out. The next batter Blake smith drove him in, Lookouts take the lead 4-3.

  93. trublu4ever says:

How about that, Beav…Ramona with a dinger 🙂

  94. Here I was thinking that Ramona was going to be the designated out, not the designated hitter. Glad he’s proving me wrong – a double and a home run!

  95. crash24now says:

Maybe we don’t want to DFA Ramona just yet.

  96. Cripes! That’ll keep Ramona on the team the rest of the year.

  97. crash24now says:

Lilly with a 67 mph curve – almost looked like an Eephus pitch.

  98. I’ve decided SVS is the second coming of Dave Kingman.

  99. crash24now says:

    Here come de Belly

  100. I’d say that Lilly did a good job here in the 6th inning. He pitched well. I hope Beli doesn’t screw it up.

  101. trublu4ever says:

Just wonderful guys…..by the way….I hate BelliSORRYo

  102. Damn, he screws it up.

  103. crash24now says:

Two errors in a row by ‘de Belly.

  104. Really, they need to seriously think of trading Dre, Belli, and a few other sorry asses here in a couple months.

  105. Good AB for Ramon.

  106. Vargas really zoom it in there.

  107. Nice recovery by Punto.

  108. Well, Beli had a strong inning there in the 7th.

    THINK BLUE!!

Van Slyke swings at a pitch that bounces before it reaches the plate.

  111. Angel pitching has been superb, from what I see.

  112. Last chance again.

  113. Ethier looked frighten at the plate.

  114. I had more faith in Hernandez than I did in Andre.

  115. Pretty much what I’ve come to expect every game from a Donnie managed team – no heart, no spirit, no nothing.

Well I’ve seen enough to last me for another month at least.

  116. crash24now says:

    1b- neck strain
    2b – leg muscle issues

    3b – no hit
    lf – hammy

rf – too frightened to hit

  117. Nellyjune says:

How are we doing Dodger fans? Long time no see/read! I see we are just as ornery as ever…….with good reason lately. I hope you all are doing well in your parts of the country.

  118. crash24now says:

Crawford has a stiff back after that fantastic catch tonight.

Time to bring up both Pederson AND Puig!

  119. grizzy says:

Trying to be positive (pretty hard lately) I’m thinking Kemp’s enforced time off will reset his approach at the the plate and he’ll start swinging at better pitches.

  120. With Kershaw going tonight, we stand a good chance of ending (and starting) the month on a high note.
