I like our chances tonight. Saturday (Capuano) and Sunday (Magill) will be challenging, to say the least.
I heard that Ethier will be getting a rest tonight, so we should expect to see Scott Van Slyke in right field.

I know it’s what is described as a small sample size, but Dee has committed only a single error, in 11 game. On the other hand Sellers committed 3 errors, in 23 games… Kemp and Agon lead the team with 4 each…
By doing the little things correctly on the road, we will give ourselves the best chance at success, well that and coming alive with the bats!!
Solid baseball includes base running. That means moving the runners when needed, which would improve our hitting with RISP and scoring runs. It also means avoiding being TOOTBLAN!

Mark is rehabbing in Chattanooga today, so Cruz’s goodbye party should be soon.

Don’t feel too bad for Cruz. I think he was in the minors for a long time and finally reached his dream of becoming a major leaguer. He got a lot of cheers last season, but obviously can’t hit at a major league level on a sustained basis. So, he’ll go back to probably AAA, and it will still be a good life for him. I don’t know what the average pay now is at that level, and I hope someone can enlighten me, but I don’t think it can be too bad compared to what most of us can make in our jobs or careers. Most guys in the minors never get to that last level and presumably still enjoy the game if not the ultimate dream. So, nice try Cruz, and I enjoyed your good times while they lasted.
I do feel bad for Cruz personally but I feel just as bad his lack of performance this season has hurt the team. He had the opportunity of solidifying a position at third base that has been a black hole for a long time. He gave the team a big lift last season and it would have been great to see that continue.
As for Andre, I read where Mattingly decided to give Andre today off before they left Los Angeles. He had intended to give Crawford Wednesday off but chose to use him late in that game. Donnie likes to parlay off/travel days.
Let’s hope Ryu was just trying to be extra careful, there.

I now note that all four of our minor league clubs are playing under .500 ball this season; some quite a bit under that level. So glad to hear Kasten say that our farm structure is “sound” and recite that we’ve signed something like 64 foreign prospects since the new ownership came in. Just when are the promising new prospects showing up to play some winning ball? So far this looks to me like the most disgraceful ownership in Dodgers’ history.
This bullpen needs help and soon…Even when the team has some sort of momentum going their way, these guys are like a drain waiting to absorb it all down. It also doesn’t take a genius to understand, that when you are struggling as a team. heading into a hostile environment, to challenge a very good opponent, you need to bring your A game, even if you’re bringing you’re B team. In my opinion, the fact that we played so horrendous last evening, falls in the managers lap. The bullpen in my opinion is Neds deal, I don’t think they are, or were very good to start with.
Anyhow, today is a new day..,And with it, comes my early morning optimism…I’m thinking the Boy’s will put up a good fight tonight and we will even this thing up.
Props to Van Slyke for changing his appearance, through hard work, and refusing to give up on a dream. It sure is a nice change of pace, from hearing, he is a good teammate…

The dodgers are like an out of tune classic guitar, no matter how good it looks, when they play something doesn’t sound right, tune the E string and another string is off, never stays in pitch for very long, change the strings, adjust the neck, but still doesn’t harmonize, check the tuning peg, tweak the wiring, rereead the sheet music, still everything should sound right, but it doesn’t, so it may be time to change the musician

To me, this is the worse it’s been since before 2006, which my won and loss records don’t go back before. It’s amazing I can’t remember when the bullpen messed up so much. I remember when it was our strength. I can’t believe thoses errors and mistakes by the defense, last night.
Although I’ve lost faith in them making the post season, which is normal for me, I noticed that nobody’s running away with this division. Six games use to be nothing in this division, this early in the season but the way this team performs sometimes, it always seems that everything is too difficult.

I guess I’m from the old school of pitcher duels when you didn’t take someone out after they were delivering the kind of performance that Capuano showed tonight. Now, he’s not a Koufax dueling Gibson, but he deserved the chance to get out of that inning himself. So, I don’t feel bad that it backfired on Donnie.
The problem is that more things backfire on Donnie than not; therefore, DONNIE NEED TO GO.
We only managed one run, on two hits, both by guy’s whom aren’t even everyday players. Capuano exceeded all of our expectations going into this game and did it on the road (Props to Cappy). Was Capuano out of gas, maybe/maybe not??? Although Kenley is the guy, we all would have wanted to get the ball in the event that the starter (Cappy) was pulled. You have to hand it to Atlanta, they did what our Boy’s can’t find a way to do this season. Win not only close ballgames, but close ballgames coming from behind.
Well, who in the hell in that bull pen can we rely on?

Meanwhile it has been mentioned that Ted Lilly may be used as a long reliever out of the bullpen. Considering Lilly has been injured often, as of late, and the fact that this team needs a long reliever, often as well…It seems only fitting!!!

This club is so full of disarray right now, you have no clue what you are gonna get? You know what you ordered, well at least you think you know what you ordered, heck you placed the darn request almost a year ago…You even forwarded your desires ahead of time to the Big Boys… Magic even claims to have recieved the message… saying that he won’t be satisfied until you are satisfied, Walter acknowledges the same thing, claiming he won’t stop with just a warm compliment, he is out to bring you an award winning buffet, year after year… Nothing but the best, each and everytime you sit down to dine on what we all call Dodger Baseball.

The Dodgers have had some bad teams in recent years but this, at the moment, has to be the worse. How this happened I don’t know. The offense, which has never been very good, seems to be a heck of a lot worse. The bullpen, always use to be the part of the team that kept it from falling apart but now it’s falling apart itself.
How long this will continue, I for one can’t say. Maybe it’s just a passing thing or maybe we’re heading for a 100 loss season.
I personally don’t think there’s anyone around that can manage this team and bring better results

I was just trying to inject a bit of humor into the situation. The players just need to bear down and execute.
I think it wouldn’t hurt… I think if Mattingly is going to continue to fill out the daily line-up card he might benifit from being assertive at a time like this. The team is lost and wandering from game to game, inning to inning. Mattingly blowing his stack in the locker room, could be a small motivator to what gets them on the right track as a team. I doubt it would hinder their focus at the moment.
In the pregame show, there was a shot of Mattingly talking to Dee Gordon’s back about his boneheaded baserunning after he was thrown out trying to steal third with Kemp at bat. Dee was walking away from Mattingly, who was waving his arms up and down in frustration. Don should have told Gordon to stop and look at him while he was talking. It made Mattingly look weak and Gordon look like he was blowing off his manager.
Dildon has lost this clubhouse 32/53…. It’s time for a change,

That’s exactly the “in your face” style of management that all these Pussies need to experience. If they don’t like that, FUCK THEM! At this point I’d just as soon they were all gone from this team, so we can start all over and inject some old Dodger style play and attitudes. I think this team is worthless to the core!
The only trouble is there’s nobody in the ownership either that has a clue about dealing with our pitiful situation. They think the franchise is just another business.
You have a mix of guys, all having had success on some level in the past. They have been saying they need to be patient, they just need to keep plugging away until good things happen. In the meantime you have a manager, who has to deal with all these so called expierenced ego’s. They know the drill, so he stresses unity, he maintains that a calm and relaxed atmosphere will bring about these good things they seek. Meanwhile the clubhouse is jubilant, the faces are filled with smiles and the air with laughter. All the while this plan has been tested to the max, with injuries and poor performance from the regulars, but the jubilance continues, the manager keeps his cool, even after getting swept by the division rivals, he claims he likes his team better, after the loss than before. Meanwhile again, the team continues to falter, losing game after game, all while maintaining that things will turn around… only by now the jublilance is starting wear thin. The public outcry for change is setting in, and players are still going on the dreaded DL at breakneck pace. No one wants to point any fingers, not even the GM, so he conducts a friendly poll to seek a solution to the problem and after speaking to the consituants… he declares that the problem is not coming from management’s inability to keep everyone focused on the task of playing solid baseball, but rather from everyone’s inabilty to maintain focus and play solid baseball… Again no one wants to point any fingers… Yet by now it has become clear that even the expierenced ego’s are becoming shaky and having trouble selling the notion that they just have to be patient and wait it out. Even after the return of the clubs co-ace from injury, to help bolster consistency… things continue to go awry. How does the manager counter this glitch in productivity, he does it by sitting the regulars. The play from the defense has become just as bad as the play from everything else. And it isn’t coming from the usual suspects… It’s spread like a fungus throughout the dugout and onto the field, from corner to corner, with the biggest mushroom heads coming from the bullpen. A place where stability in the past has been the forefront of this organization. The wisdom from management, upper and lower, and the so called expierenced ego’s is so prevelant, that they seem to have become like the top 1% of intellectual society, and forgotten a part of their past, the part that tells you what it takes to win ballgames.
Here is a refresher, in order to gel as a group, on and off the fucking baseball field, you must first, catch, throw and hit the leather orb correctly…it is just that damn simple!!!!

Find a GM who is better adapted to finding and maintaing talent… Someone who can motivate a club from a distance
Find a manager that isn’t bust trying to re-invent the way the game is played, but rather is busy keeping all his vintage toy’s fine tuned. A manager who demands good fundamental baseball day in and day out.
Ned banked on an assortment of utility players… this off season, probably due to the fact that those players manning these position on a regular basis, have a high percentage chance to become injured. What he didn’t foresee, or at least think was likely… was everyone getting injured at once and so soon in the season, leaving the bench high and dry. Fed Ex was added to the opening day roster, partly because he is ready to handle a pitching staff and call a game, and partly because no one was sure how A.J would rebound. Once it was believed that A.J. was solid, and Ned had the opportunity to save money while adding Hernandez, the plan reverted back to having Fed Ex play everday unless, needed in L.A. Giving League a three year contract, based on part of a season, as well as, his performance in Seattle, was just stupid and will in my opinion, rival the contact given to Uribe on some level. How ironic is it that we became stuck with Uribe and Cruz and Hernandez, but now we have Ted Lilly bouncing around the team with no clear place to play. What the hell is Honeycutt doing these days, and I thought adding Koufax was to strengthen the pitching staff and give advice to upper management??? I thought adding Lopes was to strengthen the running game and bestow pride back into the organization??? I have no clue what Wallach was added for other than in case something went wrong with Donnie’s vision. Didn’t we hire Mickey Hatcher somehwere along the way as well… I guess Ned didn’t like his attitude, cause he is gone. Hillman is just as big a mystery now as he was when it was announced he was on board. I can’t wait until basketball season is over and Magic returns from his vacation, so we can see how he lives and dies Dodger baseball again. Did he coin the term Dodger Nation, or did Pat Riley pass that one along, hoping he could re-kindle his three-peat success??? Tell the world what you think Dodger Faithful???

I still think it all goes back to the offense, which is being dominated by MLB pitching. Pitchers are constantly throwing strikes at the Dodgers and are being very successful. Our hitters are going down like there’s no tomorrow, especially when there are runners in scoring position when the opposing pitchers start to bear down more . It has become very difficult to manufacture runs. They just don’t seem to be able to support our pitchers.
If someone can find the reason for this AND can find a solution, I’m sure everything else will fall into place.
Of course if it’s just a long slump they may just come out of it on their own.
A slump is one thing, but making mental errors on the basepaths and on fundamental plays is unacceptable and must be corrected. Crawford, Kemp and Gordon need a coach to get them together and discuss how to handle a ball that is hit between them. To me, it looked like Gordon was too aggressive in running after a fly ball, which caused Crawford to back off for fear of diving and crashing into Gordon. I think Carl could have caught that ball if not for Dee coming into his zone.
Dee has a history of doing that. However, Crawford should have called him off the ball and taken control of the situation. I think what happened is explained by the fact that Crawford and Dee haven’t played much together.
My roommate made a comment yesterday that I think is appropriate. Eric Collins was saying that the middle of the line-up was due up in the inning, and he said, “They don’t hit so why does it matter who is coming up?” Patience be damned – let’s kill something!
I’ve begun to feel the same way. There’s doesn’t seem to be a “heart of the lineup”, it’s just a parade of batters coming up one by one.
At first this team just could not hit. The pitching and defense was good enough had the offense been able to generate more runs. And honestly, how can you blame Donnie, Ned or anyone else for believing that it is just a matter of time before the offense gets going with players like Kemp, Agon, Crawford, Hanley and Ethier in the lineup? Even with all the pitching woes, these guys should be able to drive in enough runs to win some games. But now we see these guys have had a serious power outage with a lot of balls ending up as long fly balls. Add to that the porous defense and inability to hold one or two run leads and we have a last place team.
I don’t know if changing managers would help. And I certainly scoff at the idea Magic Johnson has anything to offer that will change this team’s fortunes. Heck, we still have no idea what he even does. But clearly something needs to change.

I still maintain this is a young man’s game. You’ll get consistent offense and defense when the same players are on the field, day in, day out. The crowded DL speaks to an older team. I swear, I never remember Alston or Lasorda changing the line-up in such wholesale ways as Torre and Mattingly have done and continue to do. Garbage. Get younger. If Crawford can’t play every day, get Puig up here. Get younger. The middle infield, Ramirez and Ellis, keeps breaking down. Get younger. Lilly, Capuano, Beckett. Ditto. Get younger. This year’s performance is an embarrassment with no signs of change.
I agree, for instance take Van Slyke vs Uribe, one has already made his mark and is complacent (no need to get in shape), the other hungry to play the game (lost weight to keep from losing a dream.) You could say the same thing about the Giants… Younger and hungry for accomplishment…
Amen brother!!!! I guess that is what they are trying to do.. However, it takes at least 2-3 years to rebuild even an average farm/international system. McSlime left us with virtualy nothing in that tank… Could be 4-5 years…
I just hope this crap affecting the bats, bull pen, defense doesn’t spread to the starters.
I really don’t know why, other than I have been struggling with my memory as of late… But I was under the assumption that Mickey Hatcher was assisting the front office. I read today he was let go as the hitting coach… Now that I am all caught up with Ned’s foreign affairs.

I noted that the Dodgers and Brewers have identical win & loss records 17-25 and they are both in last place. The one exception is the Dodgers are closer to first place, just 7 games out, while the Brewers trail by 101/2.
With the Dodgers poor offense, it’s hard to come to any conclusion here except to say that the both teams seemed to be in the same boat. Whether this will help the Dodgers or not, for me, it’s hard to say.
For the life of me, I can’t figure this out. These guys are being paid more than any of us would ever see in ten life times, yet they act and play like duds, with one or two exceptions. You’d think they would have a bit more pride than this. Don and Ned get a lot of grief on here and elsewhere, but I do not think replacing them are the answer, but they will probably be the ones that go first. meanwhile, why not try kaliforni’s method. Nothing else is working. Or try shipping out one of the over paid under achievers and see if that wakes anyone up. Only problem I see is having to eat millions more in salary.
I am sure current ownership is keenly aware about the age of the players just as they should be aware Ned and Torre (not sure about Donnie) seemed to believe in experience or at least what they believed they knew about a player versus gambling on a younger inexperienced player. I still maintain even though the Dodgers may be a bit older, Kemp, Ethier, Agon, Crawford and Ramirez are in what usually has been called the prime age range for major league players. This team has been built to win now, not at some time in the future. Dodger teams have never built for the future; they basically reloaded. We have been told current ownership has devoted a great deal of resources toward international player development ( a source for cheaper players until such time as MLB changes the rules) and clearly the Dodgers need to draft better and develop players. But this current team, even with all the deficiencies, should not be a last place team.
Is there complacency? I have no idea. Are all the high priced players happy with what they have? Are they happy losing? are they happy being in last place, not caring at all? I seriously doubt it.
This IMO could be Mattingly’s most important series coming up with the Brewers if the things continue the way they’ve been in this past series with the Braves. What with Kershaw, Greinke & Ryu coming up next and the offense and bullpen not helping out?
