In spite of what I said on the previous post I want the Dodgers to finish strong no matter what, especially against the Giants. As I think about things, Dodger fans have always countered Giants fans about how many championships the Dodgers have won, especially since the teams moved to California. Yet it has been the Giants who have reached the World Series three times and won one since the Dodgers last championship. I hope current ownership takes notice.
Oh Dear Dodger God in the blue, I pray you do’t let the giants knock us out of the post season. It is enough torture to know the giants are in the post season, but to have further humiliation, would only build my character I know, but don’t you think I am already a character. GO Dodgers!

I have been adamently following our Dodgers and rooting for them to somehow get into the playoffs.
Unfortunately, it is not looking good. Well, at least I didn’t think we were a playoff team starting the season. So, I am not very dissappointed.

You are right – it’s not looking good. But we still have a chance to get to the playoffs, albeit a small chance. Everything has to go right – two Cards losses and two Dodgers wins. Fortunately for us, the pitching matchups and Reds’ incentive to win are helping us. The Reds are still tied with the Nats for home field advantage. So, this is how I see it playing out (fingers and toes crossed):
1. 4:05 pm PDT today – Gio Gonzalez and the Nats beat BJ Rosenberg and the Phillies, putting the pressure on the Reds to win.
2. 5:15 pm – Matt Latos and the Reds beat Chris Carpenter and the Cards – Joey Votto takes Carpenter deep, then the Reds pile on against the Cards bullpen.
3. 7:10 pm – Chris Capuano beats Barry Zito, with lots of help from Kemp, HanRam, Cruuuuuz, and AJ.
4. 10:05 am tomorrow – Cliff Lee beats the Nats, giving the Reds an opening to home field advantage by winning their final game.
5. 4:15 pm – Kershaw dominates the Gnats, putting untold pressure on the Reds
6. 5:15 pm – Homer Bailey and the Reds win home field advantage, Adam Wainwright and the Cards CHOKE, and the Dodgers live to see another day of summer.
Needless to say….I would love this!
It’s baseball! Stranger things have happened. Witness the 2007 Rockies. They were in fourth place on Sept 15th. Then they won 13 of their last 14 games, forced a one-game playoff with the Pads to get the wild card spot, and went to the World Series.

Dusty Baker returned to the dugout for the Reds and they lost last night. I have an issue with Baker as a MGR, he usually does 162 games well, I hope he and his reds can win two more games, but I fear his time with the gnats has tainted him.
The Reds players need to draw inspiration from having Dusty back on the bench and not in the hospital or recovering at home. Then they need to kick the Cards’ butts for two games.

Can’t fault that line-up at all Crash, especially if they’d play NL style ball. Unfortunately with Donnie coming back M.Ellis will be the everyday and bat second because dammit, that’s where Donnie says he should be.
Collie reminded me that just the fact Frank is no longer part of this team is the best thing that happened this season. Yea, it would have been great to make the playoffs, but I’m looking forward to see what happens in the off-season. It’s sure to be a good one. I will always bleed Dodger Blue, and that will never change, regardless of the record.
The Outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Dodger nine that day:

All those losses in Aug/Sept dug us too big a hole to climb out of. I had pretty much decided the Dodgers were not playoff caliber then,but this last week gave me a glimmer of hope, and last nights game left me with a feeling of loss. I do have a good feeling about the team going forward, and as nelly says, the off season is sure to be interesting.
Oh well. I am disappointed, but not surprised. I didn’t think this was a playoff team starting the season. The new owners definately went all in to try and make it happen. Bodes well for the future. Unfortunate that most of our aquisitions didn’t do much down the stretch. I hope they get back to developing young players. I am rooting for those Oakland A’s. Also Baltimore. It is a shame that the Dodgers have gotten so far away from their roots of developing and bringing up good young talent.
It’s nice to see this familiar avatar! I hope all is well with you Jhall!! The A’s are one bay area team I can root on proudly. What a season they had!! I am also pulling for Baltimore, Tigers (Fister is a home grown boy) and the Nationals on our NL side.
Nice going in the final stretch run, and this last home stand was more exciting for it. However, as I said a couple of weeks back, I don’t think that either our Dodgers or the Cardinals deserved to be in the playoffs. The second wild card addition I thought was a travesty to begin with, only engineered to get more fan interest and more dollars for the owners. I don’t think that any team unable to win 90 games should be in the playoffs.
Playoffs would have been great for the team members who were with us from the beginning of the season, and I thank them all for their contribution. I think that Harang and Capuano held up as well as could have been expected; both Ellises did well and would be welcome back; hard to tell what value Lilly would have added; losing Billz the way he was going was certainly a blow; and Uribe?
Not at all sorry for the new owners’ failed attempt to buy themselves a playoff. I’ll welcome their added investment when it produces new Dodgers from the ground up, but I have to admit that I didn’t appreciate bringing in the wholesale Red Sox addition to the team – maybe next year once they’re more settled into being real Dodgers.
I too wish the A’s the O’s and even the Nats success in the playoffs.
It will be a pleasure seeing the new faces on the national stage.
Next year I think the Dodgers will do it too. I just wish it wasn’t with Ned and donnie still on board.
I too was against the 2nd wild card thing and thought it was unfair to the No.1 seed wild card winner. Through the years I noticed that the wild card team many times had a better record than at least one of the division winners and sometimes even had the second best record of the four. I always felt that the wild card team deserved to be there as much as the others.
That said, if it wasn’t for the 2nd wild card this Dodger season would’ve been a disaster.
I now change my mind and feel that the 2nd wild card adds a lot of excitement for teams that would’ve been long out of it.
I’m watching the As/Rangers game it’s like watching a beer league game.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the offense in a beer league game.

Thank you to all my fellow OTD fans, it has been great having a place to celebrate and vent all season long. Next year I trust will be exciting. I am very impressed with the As, hope they stay hot, or the Os, but AL is not my thing. NO DH for me. And my one wish is the giants are sweep away in the first round, so I can walk the streets without a bunch of halloween colors in my face all October.

Always a sad day, the last game of the season, that is, especially when Vin says bye-bye to all of us. It’s like a friend going away. My 43rd year as a fanatic; guess i was spoiled during the great Lasorda years. Next season will be a quarter century since Gibby’s homer and the Dodgers’ last championship. Hard to believe that much water has flowed under the bridge. Ned and Donnie are not worth me getting in a lather. I’d prefer different leadership but it’s not going to happen. So be it. Really was a kick watching the team overachieve to the best record in baseball early on. The season really went south when Kemp’s hammy went south. As we all know, he was having a a surreal, supersonic start. So now, I put the Dodgers in storage and count the days until spring when I can hear Vin’s voice once again. May God keep him healthy and happy.
Thanks OTD, for being patient with me and taking me back into the fold after frequent long absences. I’ll be checking in, as usual, all through the offseason or as I like to call it, the holiday season. To me the game is a 12 month affair.
I’m planning to be at CBR this coming spring training with the TBLA group for few days. I hope to see some of you there.
After this roller coaster season, finishing with a an upward swing in September and October, I’m anxiously waiting for next season.

It’s always a pleasure conversing with you fine Dodgers fans. I love and respect all of your opinions and ideas. The other night I was having memories of the old ITD days. Then and now…it’s all wonderful. It’s the love of the Dodgers that keep us connected, and it will continue to do so as long as there are the Dodgers. I am pretty much pulling for anybody not named the Giants, Cardinals, Reds or Yankees. I will go NL as long as it’s the Nationals or the Braves. If not, I am going for the A’s, O’s or Tigers.
Kahli, I too feel the same way about the season ending, knowing I won’t have Vinny’s voice and smile to make me feel better no matter what is happening on the field. I have been listening to him since the Dodgers came to Los Angeles and feel so fortunate to have enjoyed so many seasons with him. It is comforting just to see him in the booth when I attend games.
No need to rehash what happend this past season. It is interesting to note that two players, Adrian Gonzalez and A.J. Ellis, both mentioned on the radio and TV post game shows yesterday that they are both looking forward to next season and that the team is pretty much set with regard to position players. They also both mentioned that there will be high expectations and that other teams will be gunning for the Dodgers. Hopefully next season’s team will meet those expectations.
I find it interesting that even with what many perceive is a set lineup there are still some big questions going into the off season. It does seem as if the Dodgers want to find a way to get Dee Gordon back into the mix while at the same time try to figure out what to do with Cruz. Obviously a lot depends on whether Hanley Ramirez plays third or short. I was not impressed with his play at short but I was less impressed with Gordon’s ability to get on base. If the Dodgers do decide that Ramirez will play third and Dee gets another shot at shortstop, does Cruz replace Mark Ellis at second or does he become the utility player or more accurately, insurance? It will be interesting to see what happens.
The Dodgers still have some other issues. I see Billz is trying to avoid surgery which is understandable. I think the Dodgers have little choice but to assume he will not be available next season and act accordingly. Kershaw’s hip and foot problems seem to have gone away but they could just as easily return. Crawford is still a big unknown but clearly will figure in next season’s plans no matter when he is ready to play. Jansen still has the heart problem and Kemp’s shoulder surgery could keep him sidelined into spring as well. Hopefully things go well with him and he is ready when the season starts.
No matter what, the Dodgers do keep things interesting.
lbirk, always a pleasure conversing with you. Mark Ellis will be 36 in June. I see Cruz as the everyday second baseman going into the start of the season, with Gordon at short, Ramirez at third. As for the rest of the puzzle, who knows? But if they land a top-tier starter, having Josh Beckett as a #3 is a luxury, indeed! Will definitely be an interesting winter. As a Dodger fan, I can’t root National League for the World Series. I think Billy Bean and the A’s are a tremendous story. That’ll be my team for the playoffs.
Cruz at second works for me. Assuming he stays healthy and has a decent Spring he certainly deserves to start somewhere. As for the playoffs, if the A’s make a good run you can bet the media wags will continue to rub Oakland’s measly payroll in the faces of the so called big market, big spending teams. I do hope the series does not come down to Giants-Yankees.
I heard Dee was working out at second. Perhaps, he would fit there….and, keep Cruz on 3rd. I also heard management isn’t too pleased with Hanley. Should be fun to see what happens with new owners taking over at the start of a season.

None of those starters tickle my fancy. Of all the great front-line pitchers on crappy teams, King Felix Hernandez stands out. Seattle finished 19 games out, so it’s not like they’re one player away. Maybe Kasten can work his magic and pull off a trade. Uribe straight up????!?!?!?!?!?
The one on Ned’s short list is Jamie Moyer. Fortunately, Stan Kasten is here now to keep him from pulling the trigger.

I hope De La Rosa does not become another Pedro Martinez.
