Dodgers feeling the heat

Even though the Dodgers play tonight in 78 degree comfort under the Chase Field roof instead of sweltering in the 109 degree temperature outside, the team will still feel the heat of the Giants nipping at their heels and the frustration of leaving so many runners in scoring position last night.

In a game that saw Clayton Kershaw implode for 5 earned runs in the 6th inning, the Dodgers had 12 hits and blew a couple of opportunities to score.

Tonight Chad Billingsley takes the mound.  Billingsley was sharp out of the gates with five scoreless innings in his last start. However, he gave up three runs in the sixth to pick up his eighth loss. He has lost his last four outings.

Dodgers lineup:

  1. Herrera CF
  2. Cruz SS
  3. Hairston LF
  4. Loney 1B
  5. Kennedy 2B
  6. AJ Ellis C
  7. Van Slyke RF
  8. Uribe 3B
  9. Billingsley P

If you ever needed your “A” game, Billz, tonight is the night!

  2. At least the G’nats lost today.

    Uh-oh….here comes the implosion!

  4. It was expected. Bills hasn’t pitched all that great the entire game. It was bound to catch up to him.

    Get ’em tomorrow, boys.

  8. Billz needs a new home before the trade deadline. I’m tired of waiting for him to turn the corner because he never will. His problem always has been and always will be between his ears.

The first week and a half after the all-star game will tell you if we should be buyers or sellers at the deadline with Kemp and Dre being back. I know what I’d be three weeks ago. I’d rather sacrafice a couple years to rebuilding and have something worthwhile in 2014-15 than sacrafice what’s left of our minors for more mediocrity and most likely a second or third place finish.

If Kersh was having another Cy year and Kemp was thumping like last I may feel differently, but that’s been the problem with this team for years now – not enough guys can put it together all in the same season to really get anywhere.

I don’t want to wait that long to find him a new home….during the AS break would be fine with me!

God help me! mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law have come by in shifts for nonstop yakking. Should have gone fishing.
Guess we might consider a “sort of OK Chad” category. I really have to agree he’ll never reach his potential over the course of a whole season.

Gnats are getting shelled by the Pirates….7 – 0….it would be nice for us to take advantage of this…..I actually worry more about the Dbacks in our division.

  11. They’re talking to Colletti on the pregame show. At least he realizes we need help with the infield corners. I’m just nervous that he’ll try to get more PVLs to cover his a$$ for this year and not think about the future. Frank may have spent a lot of money on himself, but Ned did more damage to this club with his horrible deals, and repaying that debt will be a long time coming.

    4 – 25 with RISP…..not good! Let’s kick it up a notch boys!

Such a horrible way to head into the All Star break. . .

If ever a team needed a break, it is this year’s Dodgers. Just when things started to look a little better, the crappy RISP hitting took over and could not overcome the 5/6th inning pitching problems of the past three games. And these were the 1-2-3 pitching spots. It does seem as if every game is a big game even if Donnie and the boys don’t say so.
