Win or lose tonight I still get to hear Vinny and, that is a major plus after being bombarded by the gnats crew all weekend.
Vinny is a super human being. He had to watch those three games in San Francisco while the rest of us could turn away if we couldn’t bear to watch. He should never have to suffer that again!

I’ve read he has hit for average and the long ball in the minors, but, as we know, that’s not what he’s doing with the big club.

Giants are winning…..Dbacks already won…..so, if we should lose this game and Dre doesn’t come back real soon, how many games will we be behind at All-Star break?
Don’t think it really matters. This club has way too many holes to fill to even think about competing in September. Throw in injuries to Kemp and Dre, and the fact that Kersh isn’t pitching nearly as well as last year and I just don’t see much better than third again.

For a manager who loves the bunt, just when did he and his staff work on bunting this Spring? High school teams display a better grasp of fundamentals…
That’s long been my bane with this organization Kahli. You shouldn’t have to teach fundamentals once you reach the bigs. What kind of instruction (or lack thereof) are these guys getting in the minors?
Gordon doesn’t bunt any better than JP did.
During this slide into 2nd place, just how many bunt attempts have actually succeeded? I’ll bet a scant few…less than 20%, and that’s probably being kind.
Only two on the whole team that seem to know how to bunt are Caps and Kersh.
I’m sure that somewhere in their dusty archives there must be an old copy of “The Dodger Way to Play Baseball” by Al Campanis. Kasten probably has his own copy. He needs to make sure procedures are in place to teach those fundamentals starting in Rookie League and at every level up from there. I HATE when I see big leaguers make bonehead mental errors.

So what do you all think – Captain Pweeg goes to AA for the summer and we see him in a September call-up? Can’t see spending $42M for 7 with an opt-out after 4 and not playing him in the bigs right away.

When was the last time Donny Boy signaled hit and run? Bring in a National League manager, fer cryin’ out loud… Geez, I hate being negative, but watching this “entertainment” is tough work.
I think it was to Loney, but it was before spring training started.
Coincidentally it was the last time Loney got a couple hits.
If Gordon ever gets on base again, Donny could even try some run and hit plays. If he had any decent bunters, he could put on a few suicide squeezes. Anything to get this team moving again.

As far as retooling goes, first we need to NUKE Ned; then with Matt and Kersh as keepers, let’s do a major rebuilding with emphasis at the AA and AAA levels.
Bear, I agree. Rebuilding is the only way to get anywhere worthwhile. No more tinkering (or stinkering as the case may be.) You either do it right or not at all.

Listened to an npr interview with this fellow Dickey pitching for the Mets tonight. Seems like an interesting person.
I was at last night’s game and the night started well with a chance to give a big cheer to Eric Karros and remember when the Dodgers had a first basemen who could hit for power and field his position. There was a lot of excitement when the Dodgers finally scored but as I said in an email to my son earlier today, an optomist might say things are looking up while a pessimist might say the Dodgers started another scoreless streak. The reality is it is going to be difficult for the Dodgers to compete with a lineup similar to what was on the field last night. The only “regulars” were Dee (and he is clearly a work in progress), Loney and Rivera, and it could be argued these two guys night not be considered regulars with all the platooning Donnie has done recently. The rest of the players are career minor leaguers or at best, marginal role players. They might just be doing the best they can. That being said, however, the Dodgers are still playing close games. So while I said it might be difficult to compete at the present time, it is not impossible.
As for tonight’s game against Dickey, yes, it should be interesting. I don’t much like knuckleball pitchers but I have to give these guys a lot of credit for making it work for them. I don’t remember who said it but a catcher was once asked the best way to catch a knuckleball and he said to wait until it stops rolling.
Read they’re close to signing Corey Seager. Between he and Puig, maybe two steps in the right direction. I just hope Ned doesn’t trade away our best pitching prospects trying to “save” our season.
I’d sure like to see if anyone would be interested in Loney & Billz though.
I think James & Chad would be gone in a second if any team were interested……and, boy, I hope they are!

At this point, I’m almost, but not quite, ready to sign Derrek Lee to a FA contract and DFA Loney. That’s probably a little too drastic.
I’d love to package Loney and Coffey together and get somebody in return that can play some ball.

I’m not too excited. Is he a step up from what we have? – probably. But you have to remember he had Kemp hitting behind him while he was putting up better than his career average numbers. That party’s over for now and I see him sinking back to his career norms.
