It would be nice to not be shut out – but scoring one or two runs sounds even more pathetic than scoring none. At least IMHO.

This team has been making pitchers look great for about two weeks now. It’s who these hitters are. PVLs and AAA kids. The patchwork quilt line-up is fraying and the reality of Ned’s creation has bared itself. Gonna be a slog to the All-Star break. Dodger fans can only hope Kasten ha something–or two–up his trading sleeve.
The team is now playing like we all expected them to in March. They need to bear down and figure out how to stay on top until after the All Star Game.

I do not hold much hope for winning this series. We know what we’ll get from Kershaw. I’m for making Billingsly walk back to
LA if he turns in another sub par performance. And have his gear packed and waiting at the front gate. Actually you could create quite a list of those who could be walking, but in reality, this what we’ve got until the deadline.
We may be in a horrendous slump, but life is much better being two games up than two games back – no matter how fleeting it may be.

The Boss is out, time to catch up on my Dodger reading and posting. Worst time, wish it could have been on a positive day. Dodger’s bats and pitching are cooling off. They need the break. They started out with lots of energy and they just ran out. Come on boys….let’s take this series. First place trophy is slowly fading away and third place isn’t far behind. I love Dee but I just feel that he is toooo over excited. I feel that he wants the super hero attention more, then to win the game as a team. Dee take it easy and be a team player. Love how he is super quick but if he sees that the outfield has a better play, move out of the sooner, let the outfield make that diving catch. Instead they are slowing down afraid to collide with Dee. Pitchers just relax, don’t rush! I so miss Mark Ellis and Kemp. Wish they can hurry back, but hey I wish them to come back once they are ready….we need them for the long run. Well I hope Mattingly gave the players a good good lecture last night, they so deserve it. Now lets keep fighting to Win….LET’S GO DODGERS! BEAT THE GNATS! BEAT THE GNATS! BEAT THE GNATS!

Kasten was on post-game Dodger Talk. Priority 1 was the draft…now complete. Priority 2 is International (which McCourt completely ignored)…completed by July 2. Both are meant to re-stock the woeful minor leagues. Priority 3 is trades, culminating in the July 31 deadline. So don’t look for any to happen over the weekend, trade wise.
Firing someone is not going to make these players better, although even crappy teams on a losing streak usually manage to score some runs. Donnie benched Loney yesterday even though the numbers against Vogelsong said James should be in there. The pitching has not been all that bad and except for Monday, the games have been close.
Kasten has said a priority is to rebuild the minor league system. This will take time but it is the correct course of action. Because the Dodgers play in a weak division they might still be able to compete and make the playoffs.
I still don’t understand what the hell Donnie is doing. I know the players are responsible for hitting the ball but, putting some of those lineups out there are mind boggling as you say lbirken. I agree James should have been in there last night…..I don’t think Uribe should ever play again for us…….Dee is a lousy leadoff man and Kennedy should just be let go!
I think it is clear what Donnie is trying to do: win games with whatever crappy players he has available. He sat Loney yesterday knowing the stats and knowing James is better defensively at first but also knowing James has not done much of anything at the plate. When the Dodgers had the 7 game lead almost everything Donnie did worked. The career minor leaguers got a chance to play and delivered. Unfortunately, the novelty of those guys has run its course and they are what they are. As for Uribe, I wonder myself how much longer the Dodgers will put him out there.
Don’t know if I can take many more road trips like this.
When a team struggles with the bat, many managers will hit and run, if for no other reason than to get batters swinging instead of over thinking and guessing. Mattingley’s in love with he bunt, but he seems very timid otherwise. And Gordon seems absolutely lost trying to steal bases lately.

I disagree Griz. Since you can’t fire the team, its time new ownership draws a line in the sand and says enough’s enough starting with Ned and Donnie. This organization is broken from the top down, and there’s no time like the present to start raizing the structure and starting over. I’ll gladly take 2-4 years of struggling youngsters if out the other end we’ll have something to be proud of. The mediocrity’s got to stop. Ned’s Ned and we all know what a buffoon he is, but Donnie hasn’t a clue how to manage and never will. He can’t help it, he learned from Joe. The time is right to call it a season and take your lumps rather than put them out on the field.

You’ve mentioned trout fishing before, and I’ve wondered what rivers and streams you fish in. My daughter and I go up on the La Sal Mtns, which are close by. They are a bit of the Rockies that got away. There are some small lakes and streams that have browns, rainbows, and brook trout. I’d like to have a go at fly fishing sometime, but there isn’t much in the way of open area for a beginner to learn. Just wondered what methods you used.
I’m pretty much a stream fisherman for trout anymore – an old bait/lure guy with ultralight spinning rod and reel. Never learned to fly fish, but my son’s heavily into it (he has a buddy that became a professional guide up in Oregon.) I know they make shorter flyrods/bushrods that are more suited to smaller tighter spaces, but none of that equipment is cheap from what I’ve seen. Mostly I think you’ll have to don waders and get out in the stream in order to gain enough room to practice and get the rhythm down. I know a lot of the places my son goes he has to do that to get away from the overgrowth along the banks. He absolutely loves fly fishing though and I haven’t seen him go back to my way since he learned.
I’m up here in the Sierras where there’s plenty of streams. Unfortunately they don’t stock rainbows like they used to so its not like it was 10 years ago (then again, I’m not either!) Still fun though. The best fishing is in the Eastern Sierra (I’m on the west slope) from Bishop on up to Bridgeport. There are some native brown trout reserves, and up around the resorts they stock quite a few Alpers rainbows in the 2-10lb range.
If you’ve got someone that can show you the ropes a little bit, just get out there and have fun!
Not to mention Bishop to Bridgeport is one incredibly awe-inspiring landscape.
If all goes well, looks like the Dodgers have their outfield set for a few years…young and athletic. Now about 1st and 3rd………..
Got some real diversity from Bishop to Bridgeport that’s for sure. Driving up and over Tioga, Ebbetts, or Sonora pass to get to the other side has some gorgeous sites as well.

My daughter and I also use the ultra light gear with bait and lures. I have some old garcia rods and mitchell garcia reel. We’ll probably go up to a small lake in the LaSals this weekend. It’s a bit of a hike, so no one is hardly ever ever there. I’ve been to your area in the past. Awfully nice.
I’m jealous. Not many places here you can get away from people. Cherish the time with your daughter – my son’s (and daughter for that matter) done growed up on me and lives/works down in L.A., so we don’t get together to do much fishing anymore. We met up over in Bishop for a few days last year, but that’s the last time we’ve been. When he was little we’d start about 7 in the morning and not get home til dusk. My folks lived up here back then and when we drug our butts home late for dinner one time I heard my dad say to my mom, “those are the two fishingest bastards I’ve ever seen.” Well the name stuck and from then on we were known as the fishing bastards. He and I still laugh about that, though you could never accuse either one of us of missing dinner anymore.
Pardon me for interrupting the fishing theme here but this talk of signing the young Cuban player raises a question I have about the way Major League baseball conducts business. Let me preface my remarks by making it clear I want to see the best players on the field regardless of where they are from and I have always hoped that one day Cuban players would have the freedom to play in the U.S. without having to defect. However, why is it that foreign players are not subject to the same draft rules as U.S. players? Why is it that the Cuban and Japanese players can sell themselves to the highest bidder but the American players can’t? The NBA subjects foreign players to the draft. Is this part of their collective bargaining agreement?
