Freeway Series Starts Tonight

Image

The Dodgers host the Angels in the first Freeway Series of 2012.  The Angels will make the 31 mile trek to Los Angeles in hopes of extending their winning streak of two games.  Out of the 86 regular season games between the two clubs, the Angels have won 50 for a winning percentage of .581, a continuing thorn in the side for the Dodgers.

Juan Rivera and Bobby Abreu are just two of a long list of players who have been a member of both teams.  That list includes Hall of Famers Don Sutton, Hoyt Wilhelm, Frank Robinson, Eddie Murray and Rickey Henderson.  In addition to Dodger fan favorite Mike Scioscia, former Dodgers Gene Mauch, Dick Williams, and Norm Sherry have managed the Angels.

Dodger team wins leader Chris Capuano will take the mound tonight.  Juan Uribe was returned to the team today and IF/OF Alex Castellanos was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The Dodgers still have the best record in baseball. I hope that means they can beat the Angels tonight and sweep or at least win the series.

I may be away from a computer until Thursday night. Tru, Crash and others have done a great job lately with the daily posts. Keep up the excellent work.

  2. kahliforni says:

Two chores for LA tonight. Beat the Angels…beat the Devils. How spiritual a quest is that?

  3. trublu4ever says:

    Go Dodgers…..Go Kings!

  4. trublu4ever says:

Get out the donuts….Churibe is back……Castellanos optioned.

  5. trublu4ever says:

    Wow….Kings up 3 – 0 after 1 period!

  6. oldbrooklynfan says:

I sort of like the New York Rangers and their Dodger colored uniforms but since they’re not in it, I’ll remain neutral. No matter, we’re still all pulling for the same baseball team. As most of you know they’re my team no matter what town they represent.

  7. nellyjune says:

Andre’s Grand Slam was so awesome, but the best part of that Grand Slam was seeing Matt Kemp’s reaction. I miss him on the field, but what an awesome teammate he has been. Also, there were pictures on Twitter of Mark Ellis playing catch on the field today. What a wonderful sight that was!!
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!
    .
    GO KINGS GO!!

  8. trublu4ever says:

Oh, God….don’t allow a big inning! Settle down, please!

  9. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Youz can say that again.

  10. trublu4ever says:

    Yes…..keep it going!

  11. oldbrooklynfan says:

Just leave it to Andre’ #53

  12. trublu4ever says:

Wow…that was wild! I’ll take it!

  13. nellyjune says:

Mr. RBI Ethier does it again!!….plus a gift of errors by the Angels. 0-2, Dodgers. I think the Devils at Staples Center are rubbing off on the Angels at Blue Heaven on Earth – lol!!

  14. trublu4ever says:

    Two is better than none!

  15. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Thanks Richards & Trout.

  16. oldbrooklynfan says:

What ever happened to Willy Aybar?

  17. vl4eccjr says:

Sure looks like they’re feeling it at Staples Center. Kings up 4-1 – just under six minutes to a championship. . .
    That house is ROCKIN!!

  18. oldbrooklynfan says:

    We need another DP.

  19. trublu4ever says:

Damn…looks like it’s going to be a rough night for both pitchers…just hope we can outscore them!

  20. vl4eccjr says:

    The Kings did it!!!

  21. oldbrooklynfan says:

I remember when the Dodgers played like the Angels have in the first two innings.

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings.

  22. oldbrooklynfan says:

One thing nice about being in first place by 5 games Russell Martin didn’t bother me at all with his 2 HRs, one a walk-off for the Yankees yesterday and I watched the last few innings of the Nats & Bluejays game and Elwin Jackson pitched marvelous for the Nats.
    Oh Well who cares?

  23. vl4eccjr says:

Capuano is far from sharp tonight.

  24. trublu4ever says:

Cappy is making me very nervous!

  25. Oh cripes, not good at all!!

  26. trublu4ever says:

    Exhale, Tru, exhale!

  27. nellyjune says:

The Angels pitcher isn’t really doing much better.

  28. trublu4ever says:

Okay, Dee, way to start us off….we need a bunch of runs!

  29. oldbrooklynfan says:

Man Capu’s really had to navigate out of those first three innigs.
The Angels have left 6 men on base and 4 in scoring position.

  30. Never thought I’d live long enough to see the Kings win the Stanley Cup. Those last 9 1/2 minutes seemed like it took hours.

  31. Caps is starting to be the pitcher we all thought he was.

  32. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Beautiful pickoff———–saved a run.

  33. vl4eccjr says:

    Crap Cap!

  34. oldbrooklynfan says:

The way Cap’s pitching we really need some runs.

  35. trublu4ever says:

    Damn, Tony!

  36. nellyjune says:

    The interrupting beachballs reminds me….
    .
I am reading this book titled “Lighting Their Fires” by Rafe Esquith. It is a book written for teachers/parents on educating kids. He is a 4th/5th grade teacher in Los Angeles, and he uses a Dodger Baseball game (told thru innings rather than chapters) to teach his philosphy on how to help students/kids become extraordinary. He takes five of his students to a Dodger game as a reward for doing the extraordinary. (I would so love to do that, but it takes a full month of begging just to go to the zoo with my class!!) Anyhow, they are sitting there at the game with their scorebooks because of course he has taught them how to keep score. I can’t help but laugh at parts because these kids are so into the game that all the nonsense that happens during the game drives them nuts. First, it was all the fans showing up late, then it was the beachballs, then a kid sitting in front of them playing a video game rather than watching the game in front of them, and now it’s the drunk people and I’ve only gotten thru the 5th inning.

    • Wait til he gets to the chapter about the guy picking his nose for 9 straight innings – I was at that game. 😐

      • nellyjune says:

LOL!!!! They would definitely be irritated by that as well enchanted. It’s a Cardinals/Dodgers game, and the Dodgers are losing for the time being. Can’t wait to see how they react to the wave and when all the fans leave in the 7th (lol), or by that time, one of them will have beer spilled on them. The drunk people are already using bad language so it’s only a matter of time before something more serious than just kids being irritated takes place.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

Keep up the good work, Nellyjune.

      • nellyjune says:

Thanks Oldbrooklynfan!!! BTW – My summer job is redoing all my baseball card binders. I have a binder for each team, and they need updating for the next school year. I am adding a table of contents for each binder, including a current roster and team information. I am trying to make it more kid friendly so they can see baseball cards of current players more easily. I know you aren’t a Yankees fan, but while I’m currently doing their binder, I can’t help but think of you.

    • Dodger4life says:

Hi Nelly…I am going to check into this book, it sounds fun 🙂

      • nellyjune says:

Hubby’s sister recommended it to me as a teacher’s book, but I don’t think she realized all the baseball that was involved in it at the time (especially Dodger baseball). His spring break assignment for his class is to watch Ken Burn’s “Baseball.” He also reads alot of books and watches alot of films with them that there is no way my district would allow our 4th/5th grade teachers to read/watch, muchless me, but he does do geography and spends alot of time teaching how the game is played (including keeping score). That I can do, and I do my Baseball ABC’s book/program (with basic baseball history and facts and the song “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” – the complete version of course!)in the spring for the parents, which kind of replaces the literature he does that I can’t do. The only thing that’s missing is a field trip to a ballgame, which I am going to work on a way to do that someday (A’s game would be the closest).

        • Dodger4life says:

Going to the game would be fun…perhaps a VSA kickball Saturday, with A’s game that night…I’m sure you’ll figure something out though.

  37. kahliforni says:

    Congrats to the L.A. K I N G S ! ! !

  38. oldbrooklynfan says:

Now that’s the Capuano I want to see.

  39. nellyjune says:

BTW – When I was in Las Vegas back in March, I placed a $10 bet on the Kings to win the Stanley Cup. It was 20-1 odds back then, and just like the Kings, it’s the first time I’ve been able to collect on a Championship bet like that.

  40. trublu4ever says:

    UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. nellyjune says:

    Well, that sucked!!!

  42. vl4eccjr says:

    Well sheeeit!! That sucks!

  43. One thing we can always count on is that the Dodgers will do something unique during the game. This play was it (I hope).

  44. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Capuano had a tough night.

  45. trublu4ever says:

    Great…Lindblom and Kennedy in….Elian out!

  46. trublu4ever says:

    Damn, with 2 outs!

  47. oldbrooklynfan says:

Well Capuano’s off the hook and it’s a brand new game.
    Richards is gone.GO DODGERS!!!!

  48. oldbrooklynfan says:

Talk about a good table setter…A.J. Ellis.

  49. oldbrooklynfan says:

Hey somebody ran off with the waiter’s tip, right off the table.
    Well we’re even on pickoffs.

  50. trublu4ever says:

Coffey warming in the pen….please, Donnie…..NO!

  51. nellyjune says:

Off the twitter wire and a FB post from Collie……
    .
    Nation‏@DodgersNation
BREAKING: Andre Ethier and the Dodgers are near a 5 year 85M extension with 6 year vesting option. Deal expected to be announced tomorrow.

  52. trublu4ever says:

Good job, Beli….I have a feeling, it’s going to be a very good Dre inning……Rally Time!

  53. crash24now says:

Let’s go Andre! Let’s go Andre!

  54. Bobby – let’s do some business here!

  55. nellyjune says:

So much for getting out of the slump, but maybe after all this financial stuff is over, this will be lifted off his shoulders.
    .
The news is all over twitter right now from every main Dodger source. It’s just a matter of making it official. It’s a 5 year deal with a 6th year, club option.

  56. oldbrooklynfan says:

Maybe this move may work out in our favor.

  57. oldbrooklynfan says:

    I mean the pitching change.

  58. nedisajerk says:

Can we transfer some of those Kings goals to runs?

  59. trublu4ever says:

    Damn, this homeplate ump sucks!

  60. crash24now says:

That was a nasty pitch with which Jansen struck out Hunter.

  61. oldbrooklynfan says:

Not walking Pujols?–this should be interesting.

  62. trublu4ever says:

    Geez! What bad luck!

  63. Pujols – again – being a Dodger killer . . . yuck!!!

  64. vl4eccjr says:

    Oh bullshit!!! Kenley got squeezed!

  65. oldbrooklynfan says:

I’m suprised that he didn’t walk Pujols with first base open.

  66. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Let’s go walk-off.

  67. Let’s go Dodgers – clap, clap, clap!!!

  68. AJ walks again – rally time

  69. vl4eccjr says:

    A.J.’s a walking machine tonight.

  70. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Ellis is o-o tonight.

  71. Uribe hit – what a way to come back 😉

  72. So far, Dee is pretty much the only one who’s figured out Angel pitching – let’s do it, Dee!

  73. vl4eccjr says:

WTF Donnie? Using both Juans to pinch hit back to back? Unbelievable!!!

  74. trublu4ever says:

    We will get ’em tomorrow!

  75. Ok, tomorrow is another day. We’ll get ’em yet.

  76. vl4eccjr says:

Once again, Scossia knows what buttons to push to beat this club. 😦

  77. oldbrooklynfan says:

Well we’ll try again tomorrow night.

  78. crash24now says:

    Pay Dre
    Pay Dre
    Pay Dre
    Pay Dre
    Pay Dre

    • nellyjune says:

How long have we been saying that?…….a long, long time now and in every way possible, and it is finally happening. Thanks to Matt Kemp for making it clear who he wanted in the lineup with him, and for Magic and Company for making it happen.

  79. grizzy says:

Lost on the score board, but we won big with Ethier’s extension.
    Get ’em tonight.

  80. Kenley got hosed by the plate ump last night. Every pitch he threw to Pujols was a strike.

Not to rain on the parade, but $17M a year for 5 years is WAY over paying for a guy that’s already 30 and is a 2 or 3 tool guy. I’d still have used Dre to restock the farm with 2-3 top prospects. FA pool is crappy this coming offseason, and we’ve obviously no one in the minors who can really play LF, 1B, 2B, or 3B.

    • trublu4ever says:

Kenley did get hosed last night….I’m getting tired of umpires that don’t know the strike zone.
….as for Dre, you wait and see….now, that he is secure, he will blossom and be the mvp type player I know he can be.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

I respectfully disagree with you Enchantedbeaver, you may have a point but Ethier has proven, at least to me, to be a long time Dodger.
I would’ve been very disappointed if we would’ve lost him later on. The one thing the Dodgers haven’t been doing over the last 20-30 years is keeping their core players. It’s good to see them getting back to that.

  81. trublu4ever says:

Apparently, the Dodgers are interested in the Cubbies’ Ryan Dempster…is he any better than what we already have?

  82. koufax1963 says:

Im OK with the contract with DRE, Good PR person, he should be happy in the clubhouse and he seems to like the Dodgers and they like him; even more so with new ownership. This dempster/Oswalt. Name a pitcher is a real concern, I just don’t think our starting rotation has enough gas to make to October, add kershaw’s foot to the mix and I think we need more arms. Troncoso is not doing well, Rubby de la rosa might get well for September, but we need more BP and starting support. My concern for the short term is the Uribe conudrum, and this is where donnie will earn his money and respect, we pay yawn too much (thanks fecoletti) not to use him, but does he produce? and how long do we have him start over hairston or herrera? Uribe has to be a significant upgrade with the bat to allow him playing time, Id give him a chance, but it would be a short leash, of course I don’t make those decisions. Got a former gnat pitching for the angels tonight, I hope we clip his wings. Go Dodgers

  83. messagebear says:

I wouldn’t have paid that kind of money to Andre. I don’t think he’s proven the kind of consistency, nor power that deserves $17 million a year. But why should I begrudge him – GO FOR IT. After all, these new owners were willing to overpay McCourt probably by a billion or so. So, Andre is as good a guy as anybody to take the Magic fronted fuckers to the cleaners – GO ANDRE!

  84. kahliforni says:

Glad Ethier is locked up. He’s a 4-tool player (lacking only speed), he’s clutch, he’s second only to Josh Hamilton in MLB rbi lead, plays great defense, has a strong arm, bats left-handed to compliment Kemp. What’s not to like? That he’s moody and TJ Simers doesn’t like him? Gag me. He’s a great player…one of the few things Ned ever did right…not that Ned saw Ethier one day blossoming when he peddled Milton.

  85. lbirken says:

Andre’s deal is more an indictment of the system where players get paid a lot of money for what they have done in the past. The really good ones are underpaid at the beginning and overpaid at the end. Andre seems to play better when he believes he has something to proove so it will be interesting to see how he plays with this new contract.

  86. trublu4ever says:

    Let’s play ball!

  87. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Hi Everybody
Hoping for the Dodgers to bounce back tonight as they’ve been doing all season.

  88. trublu4ever says:

    Way to go Dee!

  89. trublu4ever says:

Good grief….come on Aaron! Damn you, Kennedy!! Told you, wrong guy in there!

  90. oldbrooklynfan says:

Again I’m watching the Angel feed on T.V. and got the Dodger audio on gameday.

  91. trublu4ever says:

    Okay….let’s score now!

  92. oldbrooklynfan says:

Good to see Andre TAKE those two pitches before his base hit.

  93. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Rivera…Attaway to go, we’re even.

  94. vl4eccjr says:

Leave it to Kennedy to kill a rally.

  95. trublu4ever says:

Why the hell is Kennedy in there?! Dumb-ass move Donnie!

  96. trublu4ever says:

Donnie….if Jerry needs a day of rest….we do have ELIAN! or, did you forget about him already?!

  97. oldbrooklynfan says:

Ethier would’ve caught that foul ball.

  98. trublu4ever says:

I think we need a good pitcher…..Harang won’t make the long haul!

    • I’d take Dempster over Harang.

You know, there are a couple good starter FAs this fall, but good ol’ Ned has this year’s starting 5 signed through next year too.

  99. vl4eccjr says:

    Thunder up 1-0 on Heat. . .

  100. trublu4ever says:

See, Donnie….that’s what you get when you play your scrubs! And, Dee, what the hell!

  101. vl4eccjr says:

    Defensive lapses bite hard!!

  102. oldbrooklynfan says:

Everybody’s having trouble in the infield.

  103. This is why I can’t figure out how this team has the best record in baseball.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

Nah..This is unusual for this team.

      • I mean guys like Kennedy, Uribe, Rivera, Abreu – you just can’t sustain the pace their on with these type players, nor do I understand how they got on this kind of pace with these guys in the first place.

        • oldbrooklynfan says:

Yes you’re right but those type of errors are rare for this team, especially in the same game. I wouldn’t expect this very often.

  104. oldbrooklynfan says:

I wish they’d give us those 2 runs back.

  105. oldbrooklynfan says:

Now my audio is behind my video. I see it first than I hear about it.

  106. oldbrooklynfan says:

The Giants are making things unpleasant.

  107. I also can’t understand how you expect to beat one of the hottest teams in baseball with a line-up like this that can’t hit its way out of a wet paper bag.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

Donnie must have his reasons for this. He’s been pretty good so far. And we’re not out of this game.

  108. trublu4ever says:

Thank you for the catch, Andre!

  109. oldbrooklynfan says:

Great catch at an important time.

  110. Easy to see how this team was no hit by a passle of pitchers the other day. Pitiful. I won’t doubt it’ll happen again. Half these guys shouldn’t even be playing.

  111. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Another big chance for Andre’

  112. trublu4ever says:

    A-N-D-R-E!!!!!!!!!!!!

  113. trublu4ever says:

    R-I-V-E-R-A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  114. How’d we get 4? I was taking a shower.

  115. oldbrooklynfan says:

I’m beside myself here. I saw the shot in silence waiting for Stiener to call it.. I was screaming here at 12:50AM ET.
    Thank You Juan Rivera.

  116. trublu4ever says:

    Wow….congrats, Andre….500 career rbis!

  117. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Let’s go Kenley.

  118. oldbrooklynfan says:

    BIG OUT Trout.

  119. oldbrooklynfan says:

    That’s two, one to go.

  120. trublu4ever says:

Amazing win…I really didn’t expect this….but, I am happy as hell!

  121. Well they turned that one around.

  122. oldbrooklynfan says:

And that Enchantedbeaver is how…they….do …it.

  123. 32and53fan says:

That was amazing. I tuned in late at 2-1 with the Angels leading then turned to another channel for my wife. After she went to bed, I came back to see Kenley closing it in the 9th. WTG Dodgers!

  124. nellyjune says:

Fabulous interview with Andre by Rick and Charlie. I love how he ALWAYS gives credit to the rest of the team, especially the pitchers for keeping them in the game. He is a class act, and I’m so happy he is with this ballclub for a few more years 🙂
