Philadelphia Game 1 Chat

The Dodgers, who are 3-7 in their last ten games, came down from the mile high city of Denver to the near sea level of the city of brotherly love.  Perhaps the extra oxygen will help their bats come to life again.  The Dodgers and Phillies are tied with 232 runs scored.  The Phillies have allowed 26 more runs scored than the Dodgers, 225 to 199.

The Phillies, while 6-4 in their last ten games, have a two game losing streak.  They are 12-15 at home at Citizens Bank Park.  The Dodgers have split their 24 road games.

Juan Rivera has been returned to the active roster while Scott Van Slyke  was optioned to the Triple-A Isotopes following yesterday’s game.

Clayton Kershaw hopes to bounce back from two straight losses as he takes the mound tonight with a record of 4-3 with a 2.92 ERA.  In his last outing, against the Brewers on Wednesday, Kershaw allowed a season-worst five runs on eight hits with four walks in just 5 2/3 innings.  Right-hander Vance Worley (3-2, 3.07), who is returning from a stay on the disabled list, will be pitching for Philadelphia.

Shawn Tolleson was called up and will make his major league debut sometime during the series.  Javy Guerra was placed on the 15-day DL with right knee inflammation and Matt Guerrier was transferred to the 60-day DL.

Alright – its Ned’s geezer line-up!! Way to go Donnie!!! Fortunately we still have Gordon in his outmaking position.

  2. trublu4ever says:

Thanks for the new thread…..let’s go Dodgers!

  3. crzblue says:

Javy has been put on the 15 day DL with right knee inflammation. Tolleson called up.

Pedro Borbon passed away. Rest in peace.

  4. kahliforni says:

Loney can’t even make the line-up against a right hander. Why do I feel his days as a Dodger are numbered???

    • trublu4ever says:

Sad but, I think it’s true.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

At this point in his career I can actually say no loss if he is traded. He’s another Billingsley – lots of talent and no drive.

Be nice if Kersh could get a win saved by his buddy Tolleson. Been wanting to see what this kids got.

      June 4, 2012, 3:37 p.m.

James Loney is out of the Dodgers’ lineup on Monday, marking the third time in five days he won’t start.

“The game tells you what to do,” Manager Don Mattingly said. “I’m trying to put a lineup out there that has a chance to win a game.”

Loney is batting .248 with two home runs and 16 runs batted in. At this point of his disappointing 2011 season, Loney was hitting .238 with two home runs and 15 RBIs.

Mattingly said the Dodgers had to get more production out of the first base position.

  5. enchantedbeaver says:

PHILADELPHIA — The Dodgers placed reliever Javy Guerra on the 15-day disabled list, purchased the contract of reliever Shawn Tolleson from Triple-A Albuquerque and moved Matt Guerrier to the 60-day disabled list on Monday.

Guerra has knee inflammation believed related to when he was struck in the face by a line drive.

Tolleson was last year’s organization pitcher of the year who started the season at Chattanooga and was promoted to Albuquerque two weeks ago.

Guerrier has been sidelined a month with elbow tendinitis.

    Ken Gurnick

Evidently Guerra’s knee bone is connected to his head bone.

Our work is going to be cut out for us…..the gnats just swept the Flubbies…..now, they are headed on a long 3 day road trip to take on the Puds! Please don’t let these guys go ahead of us…..let’s go, Dodgers, let’s go!

  8. trublu4ever says:

  13. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Hi Everybod
    Nice start here for Dodgers.

  14. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Ya mean, we’re alone?????????????

  15. trublu4ever says:

    Wow, nice defense!

  16. All the ex-Angels are coming through first time up tonight.

  17. trublu4ever says:

    Keep the runs coming guys!

  18. oldbrooklynfan says:

We need a good early start like this.

  19. trublu4ever says:

    Damn, Dee…that’s a no-no!

  20. lbirken says:

Poor Dee. He looks helpless at the plate but when he does get on, he gets thrown out.

  21. oldbrooklynfan says:

With the Giants winning the pressures’s on. It’s good to see us jump right out in front.

  22. oldbrooklynfan says:

It was the WAY Dee was picked off that looked so inexperienced.

  23. oldbrooklynfan says:

I’m glad we got those 3 runs Worley looks like he’s just settling in.

  24. trublu4ever says:

    Uh, oh….come on Kersh!

  25. vl4eccjr says:

    Well sheeeeit!

  26. oldbrooklynfan says:

WOW They didn’t give us much time to enjoy the lead.

  27. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Amazing AB for Kershaw

  28. oldbrooklynfan says:

Right now they seem like the same old Phillies.

  29. trublu4ever says:

    Ugh….not liking this right now!

  30. vl4eccjr says:

It appears Savery is leaving a sour taste so far. . .

  31. enchantedbeaver says:

Dodgers first pick – Corey Seager, SS

His brother, Kyle, reached the Major Leagues in Seattle in 2011. This Seager has the chance to be just as good, if not better.Corey Seager has some serious bat speed and shows the ability to make consistent hard contact. He’ll often use more of a two-strike approach, which minimizes strikeouts, but he did start showing the ability to drive the ball more over the course of the summer. He’s not a runner and the lack of speed may necessitate a move to third at the next level. He does have excellent instincts defensively, with plenty of arm for whatever infield position he ends up at.With plus instincts and excellent pure hitting skills, not to mention those bloodlines, Seager will be followed closely this spring. He could move up charts if he continues to show the ability to be more aggressive and drive the ball more consistently.

  32. nedisajerk says:

Good didn’t want another HS pitcher hopefully we get a 1st now.

  33. enchantedbeaver says:

I think what we’re seeing these last couple weeks are what we really expected from the start – guys playing [down] to their true ability. Couple that with Kemp’s getting hurt and Clayton pitching more like pre-Cy Young Kersh rather than post Cy Young Kersh, and it is what it is.

I can only hope its enough to get Ned’s and Donnie’s ass fired.

  34. trublu4ever says:

Good grief! Yep……you are right, Enchanted! Just look at us now!

  35. oldbrooklynfan says:

Kind of a rough road for Clayton but he gives us another gem. I don’t know how he got out of that one. –If we only can score some runs.

  36. vl4eccjr says:

    OUCH!

  37. vl4eccjr says:

    Caught a HUGE break there!!
Is it just me, or does Polanco have an abnormally large Mongoloid head?

  38. crash24now says:

Rally Killer – Definition – see James Loweenio

    • vl4eccjr says:

I don’t think he’s going to be around much longer. The downside is, in a straight up trade you can’t expect much in return. With Fecolletti still at the helm, life is NOT like a box of Chocolates. It’s more like a jar of Jalapenos. What he does in the near future could be burning our asses for quite a while.

  39. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Another tough game.

  40. nedisajerk says:

    Nice catch Ethier great jump.

  41. crash24now says:

Beli catches one off the belly.

  42. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Nice going Beli..

  43. trublu4ever says:

    Okay….rally time!

  44. crash24now says:

    Nice Triple/Single by Dee/Elian!

  45. oldbrooklynfan says:

    ATW Herrera!!!!

  46. crash24now says:

Crap! Shot ourselves in the foot on that play!

  47. vl4eccjr says:

    Hey! Hey!
    The kids are alright!
I love to watch Papelbon get lit up!! Almost as much as Wilson!!!

  48. trublu4ever says:

    Damn….was hoping for more!

  49. nedisajerk says:

In other news the Kings are up 2-0.

  50. nedisajerk says:

    Let’s shut it down Jansen.

  51. oldbrooklynfan says:

    OKAY..Let’s go Kenley.

  52. trublu4ever says:

    Come on Kenley…2 more outs.

  53. nellyjune says:

    Let’s go Dodgers,let’s go!!
    .
Watching the Dodger game, the Kings game and the 2012 Draft all at the same time – craziness!

  54. crash24now says:

    Nice catch Elian!

  55. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Yes…Herrrera..nice catch.

  56. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…Elian…awesome catch! Thank-you!!!!!!

  57. nedisajerk says:

    Nice catch Herrera.

  58. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…a win! We needed that!

    • vl4eccjr says:

Yep! We sure did! We all knew we would get no help from the Cubbies. Maybe the Puds can make a difference.

  59. crash24now says:

    WTG Jansen! Win streak!

  60. oldbrooklynfan says:

    WE WIN!!! Stay 3 up..YES

  61. vl4eccjr says:

    WOW!!!
The Kings are on a mission to win the Stanley Cup! Up 4-0 now!

  62. crash24now says:

Kings now up 4-0 in third period.

  63. nellyjune says:

    Thank you Dodgers!!!.
    .
    GO KINGS GO!!!

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Jeez, I remember when the big name on the Kings was Bill “Cowboy” Flett and watching them play on Channel 9 (I think) on a B&W TV. We’re talking pre-Butch Goring, Charlie Simmer and Rogie Vachon.

      I’m old.

  64. nellyjune says:

The good thing about the gnats playing the Padres is that generally the Padres have the gnats number. So, let’s hope they still do.

  65. vl4eccjr says:

Bills vs. Lee tomorrow. It’s going to be a tough one.

  66. nedisajerk says:

I don’t know how many times I have said this but Quick is amazing. I really feel bad for Terry Murray getting fired but it really wasn’t his fault and Darryl Sutter took over. He have to be one lucky coach. I was upset when the Kings choke the last 2 games to the Sharks and would’ve grab the #3 seed and have home ice advantage but I guess it was a good thing lol.

    • nellyjune says:

      Not sure about that one!

      • enchantedbeaver says:

What is it with this “pedigree, bloodlines” thing? Shouldn’t they be drafting the best available player at the moment? Pedigree means nothing. My dad was a mechanic, but you wouldn’t want me trying to fix your car.

  68. trublu4ever says:

Tommy Lasorda was hospitalized after suffering heart attack…hope it’s not too serious and he gets well real soon. Love Tommy.

  69. trublu4ever says:

Okay….I don’t know about you, but, when Billz gets ready to pitch…I get queasy.

  70. trublu4ever says:

Not crazy about keeping A.J. out of lineup, either.

  71. trublu4ever says:

    Boy…talk about 2 quick outs!

  72. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Hi everybody
I’ll be with you today again, let’s go Dodgers!!!

  73. trublu4ever says:

    First batter Chad faces….damn double!

  74. trublu4ever says:

Javy underwent knee surgery….out 4 – 6 weeks….damn! I’m getting more and more disgusted with Chad!

  75. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Thanks Andre’

  76. trublu4ever says:

    Walk like a man…Dre!

  77. oldbrooklynfan says:

I have a few choices to watch the game but both MLB Network and MLB Extra Innings have the Philly broadcast. I could turn on MLB.TV but I have too much trouble with it.

  78. trublu4ever says:

    Damn, Treanor!

  79. crash24now says:

Which inning will Tolleson debut tonight? The way Chad is pitching, I’ll pick the sixth.

  80. enchantedbeaver says:

Doesn’t matter how good or bad Billz pitches if you can’t score.

  81. trublu4ever says:

I’m sorry….Dee must go! Not ready for the bigs!!!!!

  82. trublu4ever says:

    Ugh….sorry inning!

  83. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Lee looks unhittable.

  84. vl4eccjr says:

Lee is dialed in. He’s going through this line up like shit through a goose. . .

  85. oldbrooklynfan says:

I’m just hoping that Lee will make a couple of mistakes.

  86. oldbrooklynfan says:

That doesn’t look too good right now.

  87. oldbrooklynfan says:

Bilz is having a real strong game.

  88. trublu4ever says:

    Phooey!

  89. oldbrooklynfan says:

The Philly announcers called that play way before it happened.

  90. vl4eccjr says:

Did some one kick a cable on MLB.tv? I lost the video & audio feed.

  91. kahliforni says:

Mattingley should be horse-whipped for this inning. I HATED the bunt–again–before it even happened. What a passive, defensive manager. Yuk!

  92. oldbrooklynfan says:

It’s hard to beat this kind of play. TGJ was just trying to get an edge.

  93. trublu4ever says:

    Elian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  94. oldbrooklynfan says:

He spent 10 years in the minors and it looks like the Dodgers called him up just at the right time. GoO ELIAN.

  95. trublu4ever says:

    Nice catch TGJ!!!!

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

You really called it kid. I never expected them to get to Lee, even with the 100 pitch count.

  96. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Nice HOLD for Lindblom.

  97. trublu4ever says:

A few more insurance runs would be nice.

  98. vl4eccjr says:

So much for some insurance runs. . .

  99. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Another shot for Kenley.

  100. trublu4ever says:

Okay…Tru can exhale now! Nice game….great win!

  101. enchantedbeaver says:

Kenley’s really starting to remind me of Lee Smith.

  102. oldbrooklynfan says:

Great going Kenley….This is one of the most characteristic Dodger team in years.

  103. vl4eccjr says:

    Outstanding!
I sure had my doubts the way Cliff was dealing early, but they got to him late.

  104. enchantedbeaver says:

Just watched the replay of Herrera’s double…

THAT’S why you pay Juan Pierre to play on another team.

  105. nellyjune says:

Nice to leave thinking the Dodgers may lose to come home and find they won! – Yeah Dodgers!

  106. Overall, it was a pretty good game. I was glad to see Bills overcome his rough beginning and settle down. Herrera is nothing shy of awesome. It’s good to see the entire team contribute.

  107. nedisajerk says:

Oh great the Padres going to blow the lead.

  108. trublu4ever says:

Guess Uribe is going to start re-hab….I really don’t want him back….he will mess up our team’s chemistry!

  109. messagebear says:

Wonder how much of Ned’s negotiated Uribe’s salary we’d have to assume in order to move the fat slug somewhere else. Way to go, Ned. How you’re still here continues to amaze me.

  110. crash24now says:

    Lineup for Phillies Game 3

    Gordon SS
    Herrera 3B
    Abreu LF
    Ethier RF
    Ellis C
    Loney 1B
    Kennedy 2B
    Gwynn CF
    Capuano P

Thankfully, Donnie put AJ in #5. But after that, it’s Loney/Kennedy, a pair of rally killers.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

I was looking on baseballreference.com yesterday and a team of 9 Loney’s, assuming average pitching and defense, their winning percentage would be .373.

James need a change of scenery.

      And so do we.
