Having Matt Kemp return to the Dodgers after a great two day rehab assignment in Albuquerque was great news. Having him aggravate his hamstring on Wednesday night was not so great.
Steve Lyons was talking about hamstring injuries on the Dodgers Live post game broadcast. He said that it is common to bring back a player slowly after returning from a hammy DL stint by resting the player after the first game back. When Don Mattingly brought up the possibility of Kemp sitting out a game, Kemp responded with a resounding “No way!”
I am beginning to wonder if Donny has the cashews to deal with prima donna players. He was reluctant to sit Kemp while he had his consecutive game streak going. If he thought Kemp should rest but got talked out of it by the player, it does not bode well for his leadership.
I don’t know if I am the only one bothered by this, but I thought it was not smart to let Kemp be such a boisterous cheerleader while he was in the middle of his DL stint. Seeing him rush onto the field after a walkoff win and tackle someone with his “winning hurts” hijinks looked like an accident, or re-aggravated hammy waiting to happen. With so many players getting injured from freak accidents like pushing their car like Dick Allen did in 1967, or pulling on a pair of cowboy boots like Wade Boggs, I keep waiting for something bad to happen each time Kemp, Andre Ethier and Dee Gordon jump up in the air to bump their bodies together after a victory. I know the boyz gots to have their fun, but when one of them sprains an ankle, it won’t be very funny.
After the first three game losing streak of the year, lets hope that the Brewers have left their brooms in Milwaukee.

If Kemp hurt his knee by breaking his bat over it, I am really going to be pissed. I know some players are really high strung but they are also valuable properties of their teams and should find a safer way of expressing their frustration. Who can forget Kevin Brown breaking two bones in his non-pitching hand by punching a clubhouse wall during his time with the Yankees in 2004?
I’ve questioned Donnie’s leadership since he took over. Not the brightest crayon in the box. I am also hoping Matty takes the proper time before making a comeback. We cannot leave all the hitting up to Dre and A.J. ….. and, our pitching of late has been less than stellar. They say all teams go through a slump…I just hope this is ours and, we will bounce back.
Hi’Ya Tru… I hope they bounce back also. But, this team had major holes when the season started. And now they are starting to show. You can only keep it together so long with coat hangers and duct tape. Let’s hope the new ownership and management are now realizing what a terrible job of building the team Ned Fecolletti has done. This team needs a major overhaul starting with Nedcompoop and Stan Conte. I’d like to see them show Honeybutt the door also. And, I wouldn’t be heartbroken if Dildon was let go.

A grand jury has opened an investigation of his business dealings. I hope it gets alot rougher.

He probably should have stayed out a whole month to begin with.
You could blame the early coming back on Conte, but Matt, with due respect for his power and all, doesn’t seem to me the brightest nor the most disciplined guy in the dugout, and Donnie has no control as a manager.
Matt Kemp is back on the DL. Alex Castellanos has been called up to fill out the 25 man roster.
Was reading a bit this morning about our heroes, Frank and Jamie. Even though Jamie seems to have “sold low” in her divorce settlement, she astutely made sure Frank is SOLE OWNER of Dodgers and subjected to all IRS penalties for non-payment of taxes. However they are BOTH liable for any fraudulent activities and subsequent penalties…you know, like absconding with team funds, etc.
As for Kemp, hamstrings are nasty. They take forever to heal. The understudies will have to continue to step up. As for Loney, wow, he’s either a huge, enormous, gigantic waste, or yet another vastly over-rated Dodger “youngster” who’s getting older by the second.
I’m glad to see Costellanos up. Maybe a prospect originally selected by the Cards will prove more major league worthy than some we’ve had lately. Besides, I believe that prior to this season in the minors he was playing the outfield; so, added to the 2nd base he has been playing this year, we should have some more flexibility.
I hate to knock our scouting but it seems to me also that the position players the Dodgers have on the farm that came out of other organizations seemed to be more majoe league ready.
Great. We better hope like hell Ethier doesn’t go down or we are screwed.
Kemp’s re-injury is most unfortunate but let’s stop second guessing the situation. In fact, the boys on Dodger Live last night following the game kept saying they did not want to second guess and then spent the first segment doing just that. No one knows for sure what is going to happen and each player is different. Remember J.D. Drew? He missed games for the most inane reasons. Kemp is a gamer and that is only one of the reasons we like him so much. Did he come back to soon? It is easy to say so now.
And can we stop blaming everything on Stan Conte? How come no one says anything about the current trainer? From what I read the players (including Kemp) seem to like her although I suppose we would never know if they didn’t. Injuries are part of the game. They cannot be predicted and teams have to find ways to overcome them. Chick Hern used to say the Lakers are an ankle sprain away from disaster. Let’s hope the Dodgers are not a hamstring away from disaster.

Where is that guy that was during all the home attendance from last year I forgot? I don’t even remember a home attendance this low even worst that they stay at home watching the SC final other than a meanless regular season game with Kershaw pitching. I wonder if the Brewers announces did the same thing probably with our attendance but probably not with Bob Uecker.

It funny I figure it out 30 mins when I went back on Inside the Dodgers.
The only reason Dodgereric was posting the attendance last season was because of the boycotting issues. He lifted his personal boycott of Dodger Stadium once Frank was heading out the door.

In fellowship, yet contrast, to enchanted and bear…I shall bear up and channel all positive vibes about this team. I will be the anode or the diode or whatever ode is needed. That said, there is nothing in this universe that can change the vibe surrounding Billingsley and Loney. I get the feeling both would flourish in a small market with no post-season expectations. They just seem to lack that “whatever-you-want-to-call-it.” I used to play softball with a real leader…he was our shortstop. When things got sticky he’d always shout, “step up or get out of the way.” Unfortunately, Billingsley and Loney have been getting out of the way for quite a few seasons now.

What a difference a 4 game losing streak can make! Yes, the Dodgers are struggling and the injury bug may indeed be too much to overcome. There still is a lot of baseball to be played so it might be a bit early to give up on this team. Remember, most of us had modest expectations for this team when the season began.
I will never give up on my team…..angry, yes, at times….only because I hate losing.
By the way, mlb network has been talking about Youk either coming to us or the White Sox….good or bad?
I would never “give up” on the TEAM. As far as results go, I just want everyone to play hard and play up to expectations, and hopefully some will play beyond that. My contention the last couple of years has been with the guy who put the team together and the guy who gave the first guy the money to pay them with. BOTH SERIOUS FUCK-UPS. Only ONE is now GONE, and I’m no more sure about the quality of the new owner than I was depressed over the previous one.
As far as Youk is concerned, I don’t want to see him in Dodger Blue!

So in one of the many deep discussions I’ve been having with the wife lately, we were trying to decide, when did they quit delivering milk to your door? I would think it would’ve been in the early 60s, maybe up to ’65, but I never remember them and she’s a little older than me and she doesn’t remember them either.

Nice to see everyone chiming in. I think we are ALL agreed that we love the Dodgers and hated to see things go crap the last few seasons. I think we almost ALL agree that Ned is a crummy cook. And I agree with enchanted…a team doesn’t need two months to assess needs. Losses in April, May, and June count! lastly, I think we ALL agree that while this Albuquerque collection gives 100% all then time the team needs proven major leaguers to hit the ball consistently. DECENT players in their prime, Ned, or should I say, hopefully, Stan.
Time for the Dodgers to get back to the hotel and get some needed sleep and come right back here tomorrow. (and win)

Sad thing is, we haven’t started playing the good teams yet.
Every team has tough spot during the season and here is ours. While this is a patch work team, they are better than they showed last night. We’ll get some players back, and I expect management to acquire more. I don’t think they will get the crowds back by letting this good start go down the drain. They’ve got to know that.
Again, no panic, no moves just for their own sake. I’m not as down on Ned as the majority on here and don’t think he will try to just throw money at the problem areas. So again, it’ll be very interesting to see how things sit at the break.
