The Return of Matt Kemp

When Matt Kemp went on the DL, I thought the Dodgers offense would be dragged down with him.  But the first hint that everything would be okay?   Matt was slumping while playing with an injured hammy, and yet the Dodgers record was 4-0 while Matt was 0 for 13.  During Matt’s time on the DL, the Dodgers record was 9-5.  Contributing to this success has been some great offense by stalwarts ‘Dre, Abreu, and AJ Ellis.  Tony Gwynn and Elian Herrera have performed well, too.  Then, how could we forget late-game heroics by the likes of Scott Van Slyke and Ivan DeJesus, Jr.?

After a nice little warm-up at Albuquerque, where Kemp was 5 for 7 with 2 HRs and a double, Kemp will inject that power into an already potent offense.  It’s going to be nice to see him back in the three-hole where he belongs.

    Welcome back Matty!

I think these are in order for tonight.

  3. 32and53fan says:

I hope that he picks up where he left off in Albuquerque.

  4. koufax1963 says:

I have been waiting for this day, nice to see that Gwynn remains, he did a fantastic job covering for Matt in his absence. And we have Rally (Matty) Panties up again, so now we are tracking. Hope Lilly returns to early season form. So today we have abreu coming off the bench to PH, not bad. Hope Eovoldi can deliver. Could be a wild game tonight.

Look like the Rangers just signed Oswalt. Halladay gone for 6 to 8 weeks. I really like Halladay to.

James Loney: Umpires should call pitches from behind mound — and be robots with replay

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/james-loney-umpires-call-pitches-behind-mound-robots-214829350.html

    • lbirken says:

While everyone wants to get the call right, the games are played by humans (o.k., sometimes drugged up humans) and should be officiated by humans. I am in favor of getting the call right but I don’t want robots out there. I do think Loney was frustrated by what he thought should be an easier call. The real problem is major league umpires will not ask for help except on half swings. I do think there could be a place for more use of replay to help get the calls right but it would have to be done in such a way as to limit delays. The games last too long as it is. But the first place to start is to change the habit of not asking for help if there is a close play and another umpire may have had a better view.

      • trublu4ever says:

The first thing to do is get quality umpires……I’m tired of hearing so-and-so has a high/low strike zone…..the strike zone is established in the f*cking rule book! There are some who love to instigate just so they can throw players/managers out of the game……this is by far the worst year I have seen as far as blown calls go!

  7. lbirken says:

Tough game last night. The Dodgers had opportunities but for the most part the Brewers’ pitching was really good. I could not tell from where I was sitting if Loney was off the bag or not. A better throw from Harang and there is no dispute. I did notice that not as many people as usual left after the 7th inning and I certainly felt confident the Dodgers would find a way to win. But sometimes the magic does not work so let’s hope the Dodgers find a way to win tonight.

    • crash24now says:

Based on the TV replay, there was no question – Loney was on the bag. Absolutely, Harang’s throw was way off for no apparent reason.

The Brewer’s closer Axford is pretty tough, so let’s score early and often tonight.

  8. vl4eccjr says:

I’m thinking maybe Loney should hit the weight room. He’s hit alot of deep warning track fly balls that would have left the yard with a bit more oomph this year. Close only counts with hand grenades & horse shoes. . .

  9. koufax1963 says:

Did our offense just go limp because kemp is suppose to carry on?

  10. koufax1963 says:

we get going this inning !! GO Dodgers!

  11. vl4eccjr says:

    Signs of life!
    WTG Dre!

  12. crash24now says:

    Every Day ‘Dre!

  13. vl4eccjr says:

Other than the one mistake to Roid Boy, Nate has pitched well with a quality start. I wish I was there live to applaud the LF bleacher bum who threw the ball back at Braun the end of that inning!

  14. koufax1963 says:

well Im out of beer, and out of patience with loney, no glove, no love, and what is with PH for Dejesus, he got us a run, kennedy? please donnie save it for your old age

  15. vl4eccjr says:

    Welcome back Matt!
    Way to battle!

  16. vl4eccjr says:

OUCH!!! Back to back one run losses really stinks, especially to a cheaters team. . .

  17. oldbrooklynfan says:

    Braun was the difference.
Giants and snakes 1-1 in the 8th.

  18. kpookiemon says:

Mattingley is TOO in love with the bunt. Hated Hairston trying to bunt, even before he hit into double play. The whole flow of the inning changed; you give Hairston one strike in which to work. Pitcher sweating bullets with a double and hit batsman, and Mattingley gives him a convenient way out with two bunt attempts. And for what? If it works, to get Loney up there with the tying run at third and one out? Like that’s a given RBI????????? Hairston deserved a legitimate chance to deliver. Loney deserves a heart transplant. When was the last time he even went deep into a count? Such uninspired ABs game after game after game. Can you tell I’m bitter??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  20. messagebear says:

The game is always nice, but today’s headline is the grand jury investigation of Frank and Jamie’s financial actions while they were owners. A little too late if you ask me – unless, we’re going to broaden the investigation to include the collusion between Frank and the so-called new owners. What a crock! Overbidding by a cool half a billion or more is not a happenstance – it’s a new Ponzi scheme, similar to overpricing the FaceBook IPO. The grand jury ought to investigate all the terms of the new ownership deal, and they’d find a lot more rotten dealings than what Frank was capable of doing just on his own. I’d like to see Frank and Jamie in jail, but I’d also like to see Guggenheimers hung up by their balls for the swindle that they pulled on all the fans with a big assist from who else but Bud and MLB.

  21. vl4eccjr says:

    Cue the boos indeed!

  22. vl4eccjr says:

Why would Donnie put a Turtle like Loney in the 2 hole?

  23. trublu4ever says:

Donnie hurt his leg on exercise machine….I wonder if he’s headed to the DL? 😉

  24. vl4eccjr says:

    WTG Dre!!

  25. trublu4ever says:

Guess who? Yep, Dre with another hit and rbi!

  26. koufax1963 says:

    the dynamic duo are back!

  27. crash24now says:

Damn it! Kemp’s leg is down. Gwynn in for him.

  30. trublu4ever says:

    Love Dre!

  31. crash24now says:

    Another hit for All-Star Dre!

  32. nedisajerk says:

I love Kopitar on a breakaway and what a move that he put on Brodeur for the goal.

  33. koufax1963 says:

It would be fitting to win, for matt, running like a maniac, to provide out early lead

  34. trublu4ever says:

Lots of luck….Kennedy batting behind him!

  35. vl4eccjr says:

    Overtime in Miami.

  36. trublu4ever says:

I think before the night is over, one of our pitchers should hit Braun to get even with them for hitting Dre last night.

  37. crash24now says:

MRI coming tomorrow for Matt Kemp. Aggravated his left hammy (per Vin)

  38. trublu4ever says:

    Word on Matty…..aggravated hammy….MRI tomorrow.

  39. trublu4ever says:

    Damn…come on Kersh!

  40. vl4eccjr says:

    Sheeeit!

  41. nedisajerk says:

Wow 21-8 and no that not a football score the Mariners beat the Rangers.

  42. trublu4ever says:

Sorry guys, I don’t think Dee is ready for prime time! Keep saying a work in progress….I’ve seen no progress!

  43. crash24now says:

Nice double play started by Herrera. Let’s use it as a spark to our offense! Start us off, Herrera!

  44. trublu4ever says:

    Whew…escaped!

  45. koufax1963 says:

at 100 plus pitches, bye clayton

  46. Did anyone notice that Jamie Moyer was DFA’d today – shhhh, don’t tell Ned!

  47. vl4eccjr says:

    CRAP!!!
It’s going from bad to worse in a hurry here. Bunnynuts is too late with the hook!!

    • Clayton hasn’t really looked good all year. He has somehow lost the brilliance he had last year. Yeah, he’s pitching, but he’s not dominating. Bunnynuts is not the man to fix it, either.

  48. vl4eccjr says:

    DOH!!!!
Cranial Rectal Inversion!! This whole team is playing like they need a dose of salts at the least. Colonics, or enemas at the worst.

  49. trublu4ever says:

At least one of our players is hitting!

  50. koufax1963 says:

mattingly will have to address the clubhouse demeanor, since matty’s injury, dodgers left scoreless, more tequila

  51. kahliforni says:

Agree…club has to be down. They’re OK for the short term, but this roster was never meant to withstand the long haul, with apologies to Ned. Pitching seems fine (for now), but there is just so little dynamic offense to be found. AJ Ellis will come back to Earth, but Loney remains a HUGE disappointment, especially with Kemp dinged; he just continues to sputter game after game. Gordon’s days are numbered; he must see Albuquerque in the headlights. Ethier, Abreu and Rivera are professional hitters, but after that? Ouch……

But even with this game unraveling, my spirits can’t be dampened. LA KINGS!!!!

  52. trublu4ever says:

See, Donnie, A.J. behind Dre! How hard is it to figure that out?!

  53. crash24now says:

    Offense showing signs of life?

    Or a dead cat bounce?

  54. trublu4ever says:

    YAY……HERRERA!

  55. trublu4ever says:

    Boo…..James!

  56. trublu4ever says:

    Crap!

  57. trublu4ever says:

Good grief….finally get closer and Belli is going to give them a big inning!

  58. trublu4ever says:

Why is Kennedy still on this team?!

  59. I’m really hating Adam Kennedy’s lack of hitting in key situations. Frustrated!!!!

  60. nellyjune says:

Giants lost so this ugly game, win or lose, is an easier pill to swallow.

  61. trublu4ever says:

Oh well…there’s another game tomorrow. Let’s re-group boys and at least get one!

  62. oldbrooklynfan says:

Brewers pitching again for one thing, They just make us look bad.
Kersh didn’t have it. We’ll find out about Kemp.
    At least the Giants lost.

  63. vl4eccjr says:

Losing three in a row to such an inferior team really stinks.
