It is spring and rattlesnakes are once again active in California. If you venture outdoors, keep in mind a few safety tips:
- Never go barefoot or wear sandals when walking through wild areas. Wear hiking boots.
- When hiking, stick to well-used trails and wear over-https://outsidethedodgers.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpthe-ankle boots and loose-fitting long pants. Avoid tall grass, weeds and heavy underbrush where snakes may hide during the day.
- Do not step or put your hands where you cannot see, and avoid wandering around in the dark. Step ON logs and rocks, never over them, and be especially careful when climbing rocks or gathering firewood. Check out stumps or logs before sitting down, and shake out sleeping bags before use.
Though the most common rattlesnake in the Los Angeles area is the Southern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus helleri ) , a cousin of theirs, the Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) is now in town in the form of their baseball team namesake.
Clayton Kershaw takes to the mound for the opening game of the series with the D’Backs.
Matt Kemp was scheduled for an MRI to check how much damage there is to his hamstring. He needs to end his consecutive game streak and rest for a few days to make sure he does not reinjure it. His personal desire to keep the streak going is not the potential risk of him being lost to the team for several months.
With Kemp slumping, it is fortunate that A.J. Ellis, Bobby Abreu and even Juan Uribe have contributed offensively lately.
Roto Rooter should charge less – there’s already snakes down the pipe!
Not a bad idea either if you live in the foothills or take your dog hiking a lot to have them vaccinated for rattlesnakes.
Speaking of snakes. mlb Network seems to think our new owners will keep Ned. This is the final year of his contract. However, in most instances, these reporters are hardly ever right. One good thing they did say is that they haven’t actually said much of anything they are going to do. Confusing? Yes….but, it’s typical when Dodger news is reported.
So far, Kasten is in evaluation mode. He is cordial with Colletti for now but if, after his due diligence he determines that a better GM can be hired, I have no doubt he will make a change.
I have noticed that a lot of comments made by the Dodger announcers on the pre and post game shows focus on the good pickups that Ned has made instead of dredging up the horror stories of signings gone bad.
I hope you are right. I think they can delve and find out all the horrible deals he has made… as pointed out by our brilliant OTD folks.
I’ll be very surprised if Colletti is the Dodgers’ GM this winter…
Kemp-less Lineup; AJ Gets Promotion to 5-hole
Gordon ss
Ellis 2b
Abreu lf
Ethier rf
Ellis c
Loney 1b
Uribe 3b
Gwynn cf
Kershaw p
Is Matty a day-to-day or will he go on the DL?
No news so far. Stay tuned.
Not that we don’t need Matt (we certainly do!), but this would have been the perfect opportunity to do Eric’s plan and have had TGJ leading off and Gordon batting 8th.
GO DODGERS!!
From Foxsportwest.com:
Manager Don Mattingly doesn’t plan to make a habit of benching Gordon, nor does he plan to move Gordon from the leadoff spot despite the low on-base percentage.
“Dropping Dee in the order sounds really easy, but who do I hit there? I really don’t have a leadoff guy,” Mattingly said. “If I had an alternative, I’d consider it. I still have to think about it
I thought a lead-off guy was supposed to take pitches and get on base…..speed doesn’t matter if you strike out….TGJ did okay…hell, A.J could do it too. Donnie just has a man-crush on Dee and, doesn’t want to admit he isn’t ready for prime-time yet.
Hope these guys come through for Kersh like they did for Lilly yesterday. GO BLUE!!
Uribe is now on the DL. Who won the sweepstakes on this? Somebody picked May 15th.
I guess the lineup above is now false.
Elian Herrera has been called up from AAA. Still no word on Kemp.
Kennedy batting seventh and playing 3b.
Who does VanSlyke need to kill to get in the line-up?
I WILL be surprised if they score more than a run tonight.
He needs to knock off Donnie boy!
I guess we’re all waiting to see what’s the latest on Kemp. We got a good lead on the Giants, so I think this a good time to rest Kemp. If he he needs to go on the DL, that will be better than losing him for a longer length of time.
Per MSTI…..Ellis moves up….Uribe moves out 😉
Tweet from Magic:
Earvin Magic Johnson @MagicJohnson
@TheRealMattKemp should rest his hamstring & get back 100% healthy.
My reply:
Is that an order?
Kenny Lofton said it is is lower hammie….and, he thinks he should rest it too. However, he says knowing Matt, he will try to play as soon as possible. So, we shall see.
Ha….I pulled a Beav…I knew if I bad mouthed Dee, he’d get a hit 🙂
We are going to need more of that to manufacture some runs.
There’s your run Sandy.
Damn. I was hoping Gwynn would walk. I’d much rather see Kersh up there with men on than Kennedy.
Awesome….TGJ & A.J.!
Dang at Broxton ERA/WHIP when is he going to blow a game for the Royals.
Wait’ll he gets around the league once, then I think you’ll see OUR Broxton.
I still think Bunnynutts is the problem with our pitchers.
Don’t doubt that a bit Tru, though in Brox’s case last I looked, he’s still not hitting the speeds he used to.
Jeez. Is Kennedy all the better we can put out there at third?
ANDRE!!!!!!! THANK-YOU!
Come on, now, bring A.J. home too!
Whew! The Lakers are receiving a terrible beat down!
I know…I won’t even let my Hubby watch!
Okay….1 run for them is enough! Don’t blow this for Kersh!!!!
Sheeit!
Couple more insurance runs would be good.
Dre has started….let’s see if somebody can bring him home.
Loney’s creeping up on .250
Nice catch, James!
Oh, God, Justin! Wow!!!!
Great job! Nice win!!!!! I love L.A.!
Aint home cooking great?
For some reason I keep finding myself wanting to watch the replay of Loney’s catch over and over again.
That’s Kershaw’s 6th gem this season. I like the way we scored tonight on outs. M. Ellis’ ground out and Kennedy’s SF to go along with Andre’s 8th HR.
Great catches by Loney & Sellers in the 9th..
Sands the past 2 night 6 hits and 2 HR’s.
Matty to 15 day DL…..Jerry called up.
Another challenge for Donnie Boy: How to keep both Van Slyke and Sands out of the lineup when both are on the 25 man roster and the only other outfielders are all left-handed.
I think he brought Jerry up to fill in for James at 1st, from time to time.
That was Kershaw career win #50 which he had done it against the Giants and tied someone home record the name escape me at the minutes.
These injuries are hardly ideal, but the team is in a pretty good position right now. Get these guys healthy for a mid-season push. I still think Uribe ‘s got something for us. let alone a healthy Kemp.
Hey e, I agree with your reason to watch Loney’s catch over and over. In fact, I saw both of them. 🙂
I watched it until I went blind…
I watched it until I……………………… never mind.
New look lineup:
Gordon ss
M Ellis 2b
Van Slyke rf
Ethier cf
AJ Ellis c
Sands lf
Loney 1b
Sellers 3b
Billingsley p
Good luck to the boys in blue! Keep the streak going!
I like this alot! Just hope Billz is finally on his game.
Wow!! This is awesome!!
Not bad at all – pretty good, I’d say.
If you can I suggest reading T.J. Simers’ column in today’s L.A. Times. T.J. had a conference call with the Guggenheim top brass including Magic. If you know anything about Simers you can guess how the conversation went. He pressed them on the relationship with Frank McCourt, asking top guy Walters if he, Walters, had any idea how Dodger fans feel about McCourt having any involvement and why Guggenheim has been so tight lipped about the relationship and what they have said has not been totaly accurate. He even pressed Magic about sitting with McCourt at the opening day game in San Diego and all Magic could come up with he was learning about important ownership stuff. Simers asked them about plans for the stadium including future development, naming rights and such and the answer he got was there are no plans, something Simers finds difficult to accept. The article makes for good reading and Simers was not happy with the answers to his questions.
Hmmm…the Cubs just signed McDooDoo to a minor league deal. If he joins the team and does well (which I doubt) we will know for sure Bunnynutts should be shown the door!
Tru, WE know he should be, but maybe, if the powers that be keep an eye on the situation and he does turn things around, they’ll get it, too. We can only hope.
Trent Oeltjen was DFA’d today too. Looks like a bit of a make-over happening . . . .
Whew….Billz made it through the 1st!
Dre working in cf
Yep….a new position and every ball is going to be hit to him 😉
Boy, I really beginning to dislike Chad! He is disappointing as hell!
Sheeit!
Jer-ry…a hit…nice!
Loweenio! Still trailing Pierre in OPS
Dang I hate that the WP made that an earned run if that was a PB that run would be unearned.
YAY…finally, a 1 – 2 – 3 inning!
Damn, how you dare hit my Dre!
The LA Kings are up 3-0. Maybe we can exchange a goal for a run 🙂
As good as the Kings are playing, I don’t think they wouldn’t miss it all. 😉
I believe it’s going to be a Kings-Rangers final.
I’m thinking so too!
Looks like our winning streak is in severe jeopardy….thanks, Chad!
He sure created a huge clusterf*ck!!
What a mess!
I’m just glad Beav & Wally aren’t around here for this!
Nevermind……..The Kings shouldn’t have to give up all 3 of their goals. Bad Chad 😦
Jonathan Quick has to be the hottest goalie in the playoffs right now!
Oh my goodness, yes!! He is just amazing!!
Ruh roh!
Bringing in Javy with the bases loaded & no outs? WTF?
At least he got them to hit into a DP! Billz pisses me off!
A better outcome than I expected. It could have been much worse.
To be honest does it really matter.
Looks like Loweenio want to go home early tonight! First pitch swinging! Damn!!!
Wow looking at all the penalty in the 3rd what happen?
Best way to watch Billingsley pitch……….is to not watch him at all. Kings game was a joy to behold!!!! Cheap shots galore by Phoenix. But they paid dearly.
As for Bills, our beloved #2 starter….two games in a row he couldn’t get past the 5th inning. What a waste.
I forget how many years is left on his contract….however, I’d trade him for Cole Hammels..neither one is happy where they are playing.
Kings win 4-0. No such luck for the Clippers nor the Dodgers.
At least the Clippers are fighting.
Yep. The aren’t folding like the Lakers did to the Thunder.
How about those Pacers taking one in Miami, and going home with a split?
To be honest I think the Pacers probably should’ve been 2-0.
WTG Mark!!!
Mark!
Andre!
Angels fire Mickey Hatcher as hitting coach. How gutless. Scioscia can’t be happy with Dipoto axing his bro, like Hatcher is responsible for Pujols’ funk.
Pujols blamed him though….what a piece of work!
No matter what a coach says or teaches, the bottom line is that it is the batter has the ultimate responsibility. Pujols blaming Hatcher is chickensh*t.
Mickey will find a job somewhere. He’s a good guy.
Pooholes is a P.O.S. for throwing Hatcher under the bus like that.
He sure is! He did it a while ago too. Since when is Pooholes the owner of the freaking team!
Gosh I hate 0-2 pitch for a hit.
With Wright, you never know which one you’re going to get. Tonight we got the bad one. Box of chocolates my ass!!
In his defense he should only pitch 1 inning but is that Coffey that worry me.
We sure are being testy here tonight – and with good reason 🙂
Testy is mild!
Just wait…Coffey is warming up…..now, you will see testy 😉
Try ballistic. . .
I was ballistic when Chad was pitching.
Is he still with the club? Oh yeah, another of Ned’s “successes”. How could we forget?
Oh no, not Coffey. That’ll keep me up all night.
Wright is a 1 inning guy and how in the heck does Wright make the team every year? Vinny said he made the team 7 straight times and Hill chase ball 4.
Damn, Dee…rally killer!
We’ve got a lot of rally killers in the lineup tonight.
On a good note….the gnats are losing 4 – 1.
Grateful for small things.
( 😉 )
Lincescum got roughed up again! 😉
Yes…but, they gnats came back and tied the game….damn!
I saw that. 😦
Ouch Vinny I didn’t want to here tha stats with the bases loaded for the Dback.
Why don’t they DFA Coffey?!
Amazing! He’s got his ERA down to 12.46. . .LOL
….and he pulled his WHIP all the way down to…. 3.23!
Really loving AJ Ellis!
A.J. has got to be in the All Star game!
Please spread the word outsiders! I’ve already voted all I can!
Damn Rockies!!! Blown 4-1 lead against the Giants. There’s still time, but the Rockies bullpen is roughed up because of their series against us. I don’t forsee the Rockies pulling this one out.
I think I’ll go watch the Rockies game. This one is like watching paint dry.
Anyone think they can pound the Putz, and pull out a walk off? LOL
Not touching that one.
Sounds like you know Yiddish slang 🙂
Doesn’t everyone?
Well, yeah, I guess so.
No chance! Tonights game has been like an ultimate rejection. 😦
Oh, well, tomorrow will be better.
Yeah, Billingsley won’t be starting!
I sure hope so. The Puds won today, but they have to travel cross country to get home.
Oh well, we are bound to have a clunker once in a while. Let’s hope tomorrow is the beginning of another winning streak.
Night night everyone! See you tomorrow afternoon 🙂
Same here.
Stupid ch 4 using the Sacremento Kings logo than the LA Kings logo. No one in LA want to see the Sacremento Kings logo.
That Wade Miley was a little to much to handle tonight and their relivers were all on tonight but our Billz was off again.
Good for Mark Ellis, breaking the shutout. 9 RBI with his second homer.
He’s a good PVL to have on this team. Does his job well, and he’s a great clubhouse guy too.
Scutaro with the dinger to pull ahead of G’nats 5-4. Let’s hope they hold on for the win.
Crossing my fingers & toes. . .
Got dicey at the end, but they pulled it off! Thanks Rox!
Whew!!! That was a strike right down the middle too.
Thank you Rockies!!! The Dodgers are still up 6 games 🙂
I’ve gotten to the point I don’t take much interest anymore in a game Billingsley’s pitching. They’re all the same – an implosion somewhere along the line, about 4-5 innings of work, then hand it over to the slop of the bullpen.
Without Kemp, someone else besides Dre is going to have to man-up and play or they’ll only be 5-6 games above .500 when he gets back.
Too bad we can’t trade Chad. It’s just not working for us any more.
And don’t forget, enchanted, after each implosion Bills (and Mattingley, too, this time) claims he pitched well…just a few seeing-eye hits here and there. Ad nauseum.
Donnie: “We’re making progress.” Donnie, you’re making me want to puke.
8 of them evidently. Billz will never own up he just pitched shitty.
If anyone would have them, I’d package Billz, Loney and a pitching prospect or two – Winthrow, Martin, somebody and try and get a power hitting position player. Doesn’t matter where they play, just somebody else that’s a consistent threat in the line-up.
Question totally outside of OTD – how do you turn off the email notification of comments? Have clicked on the box to get rid of the check, but they keep coming!! I can’t figure it out 😦
Me too! It just started doing it. I also clicked the box.
It started yesterday in my case. I’ve rebooted, turned my computer inside out, and done all sorts of other things to no avail. Maybe it’s just a temporary aberration 🙂
I’m getting them too.
Me too. I was having the same problem. The ‘Notify me’ box below the comment box has to be unchecked off for every post now for some reason.
Lineup – Time for New Rally Killers
Gwynn CF
Herrera 2B
Abreu LF
Ethier RF
Sands 1B
Sellers SS
Kennedy 3B
Treanor C
Capuano P
Wow, outside of Ethier, who’d uv thunk it?
Because this team is so strapped for legitimate sticks, Billingsley’s lack of talent, focus, stuff, nad, whatever you want to call it, is deflating for me as an idiot fan; imagine the hate crimes in the clubhouse…
I’d ask Billz to look at Baseball Reference dot com: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=billich01&t=p&year=2012
Just look at his first two starts and ask two questions: 1) What do they have in common? (I’ll answer this one – a combined 14.1 innings, 16 Ks, and 1 walk – both were wins), and 2) what is different from those games and (almost) every start since? TOO MANY F’N WALKS!!
In those first two starts, he was challenging the hitters. Now he’s back to nibbling, falling behind, walking guys that’re hitting .167.
Kahli, it’s the “nad”, or lack of same. IMIFO (In My Idiot Fan Opinion)
And Donnie expects to win with this line up? It gets more and more interesting – but I do like the idea of using the youngsters 🙂
Win or lose, I like the way Donnie is using the kids, too. Torre would never have done it and, I respect Mattingly for giving these guys a shot.
I just hope the kids can scratch out a few wins while Matt is recuperating.
We will. I think they will come through for Matty and the team. How’s that for a vote of confidence? 😉
Be easier to pick out rally starters…
Ethier.
There, I’ve done it.
Treanor seems to be Capuano’s catcher, but damn, if this line-up gets a run I’ll be surprised. Its triple A at best.
Yesterday’s lineup got everyone’s attention and approval and it scored 1 run. Today’s lineup seems more like Torre’s day game-after-a-night game typical offerings. Reference is made to some of these players as kids but let’s face the facts. Most of them are not “kids” (i.e. young prospects with a lot of upside and potential) but mostly fill in players who are on the roster because someone else is hurt. Don’t get me wrong, I like Sands and Sellers for their effort and enthusiasm but I have yet to see anything that convinces me these guys can be everyday big league players. I am wondering about Dee Gordon as well. I hope these guys can do it but so far, they have not.
Have to agree with you birk. We’re woefully short of any viable position players in the minors. Have to put at least part of that on White. If you don’t draft them, Ned sure as hell won’t be bringing in any.
Maybe we can get Herrera to boot a field goal while he’s out there.
HA!
That is funny! My the trivia we have floating in our jelly for brains heads. Way to go Effran.
My head is chock-full of useless information.
No shit 🙂
Do they still make Chock-full-o-nuts coffee?
Not sure, but I got a chuck-in-the-nuts more than once…..
It’s still around.
http://www.chockfullonuts.com/#/home
I think Billz needs a dose of that.
I’m guessing you’re referring to Eric’s response and not mine.
Sorry, Crash…yes I am!
Collie is at the game…maybe he will bring us some luck.
Evidently he did.
Wow…a run already!
Make that 2….way to go!
Lost half our lead.
Sellers and Kennedy and Treanor, Oh Shit!
Do you guys think that any of our #’s 6-9 hitters even get on base once between them?
Uh, oh….Treanor did!
Way to turn over the lineup! Hope it pays off in the third.
Cupaguano got a hit this year. Once.
Way to get out of the jam, Cappy!
Good throw Richard 😉
Damn, Tony! Picked off!!!!!!!!!
Good afternoon/evening everyone……
Good to see the kids get some playing time. If only because Dildon doesn’t have much choice. I hope they do well or we may never see them again.
Good to see you! Where the hell have you been?!
Thanks Tru.. Been working nights.
Missed you.
🙂 You too….
Gonna need those rally panties to work overtime with Kemp out of the lineup.. LOL!!!
( ( ( 😉 ) ) )
Jer-ry!
Jer-ry!
Tattoo or Donnie (not sure which) needs to have his head examined. Why are you bunting? So Kennedy can come up with man on third and two outs? Are you kidding me?
I’m sure it was Donnie’s call.
Even in this lineup, Kennedy is a liabililty. He is useless…
Yep. He still aint batting his playing weight yet. . .
Damn!
Sheeeit!
Damn that Headley!
Crap!!!!
I guess Headley has Cap’s number tonight. 😦
Time for Cappy to come out – he’s becoming crappy.
Is the strike zone shrinking?
The scout on Gameday has just contradicted himself. A short time ago he said Capuano seemed to be running out of gas and now he says Cappy still has something left in the tank. Then he says Cappy is having trouble with control.
Good Grief Javy….. Geez!!
Sad to see Javy turn out this way.
The Dodgers farm system is ranked 24 out of 30. That’s McCourt. And how pathetic/sad/ridiculous/inexcusable that Loney can’t even crack this powderpuff lineup with so many starters on the DL? What a gamer Loney is……!?!?!?!?!?!?
How is Richard 5-1 in his career vs us? I think we should’ve trade for him instead of getting Ely and Link.
It funny before today Headley was 0/3 vs Cap.
Thanks to Bobby, there’s still hope.
Phooey!
Pfffffffffffffffffftt! Ah yes! That old familiar smell!
Yep, a real stinker…. Oh well, go Cardinals, beat the G’nats….
James, at least pretend you’re trying to tie the game by pulling the ball….
Look on the bright side. This makeshift lineup scored two runs, one more than last night’s lineup. Tomorrow is another day and another game.
Clayton Richards must be happy the Dodgers are around, at least he has one team he can beat. Capuano another quality start but in a losing cause. Ethier #34 Elian Herrera #1
Thank you Cards!
YEEEEAAAAA the Cards beat the Giants tonight. I know that some of you feel that if the Dodgers won the last two games they would be leading by 8 games but the other side of the coins says if the Giants won their last two games they would’ve cut the lead to 4.
We got the best of both worlds as we STILL lead by 6 games.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!
Think that’s the best we can hope for while Kemp’s out – SF and AZ keep losing.
What a mickey mouse line-up Donnie boy put out there yesterday. I know Treanor appears to be Caps catcher, but why when your offense is pitifully weak in the first place do you also start Kennedy and Sellers, then bat all three consecutively? Dee may not be swinging the stick, but Sellers can’t hit a lick, and Kennedy doesn’t even belong in the majors.
And another thing, how can anyone get into anykind of rhythm when they don’t play consistantly? Either you play Abreu or you play VanSlyke while Kemp’s out. You either leave M.Ellis in or you don’t. If the old farts can’t suck it up and play for two weeks straight, then put somebody in there that can. Its like watching a friggin LL manager let everybody play.
And perhaps the saddest thing of all, there isn’t anyone that CAN elevate their play while Kemp’s gone.
Hey its been a lousy week. Kersh and Cappy lose their first games, but did you think they would go undefeated? It was bound to happen. I would rather have kemp out 15 days in May than in September. So we played the kids and that didn’t help. What bothers me is that Donnie seems to be confused about what line up to put out there. We lost Kemp, Uribe, and Riveria, who were starters, add hairston to the DL.. So bring in two outfielders, one has to be Gywnn, and keep Dre in RF, at 3rd one of the kids must play. Yes play gordon and loney, if they don’t get their consistent swings in they will never get going. I have concerns about our BP, especially Javy, but I think other teams will figure out Kenley too, and then we can never feel comfortable going into the 9th. Having our star on the DL while in first place is much easier to take, there are so many other concerns that still exist, like our manager figuring out how to handle adversity.
Hopefully, today will be a better day with the Ellisses back in the lineup (what’s the plural of Ellis?)
Kim Ng ABSOLUTELY, I think the Dodgers would be much better without any Former giants links, bye Ned, bye yawn, bye conte
That would be awesome! And, a great day for Dodger fans everywhere!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Enchanted…..I’m sure you will be pleased to know, Kennedy has moved up to #5 in the lineup…….to protect Dre 😉
With Abreu 3rd & Kennedy 5th, Andre won’t see a hittable pitch all night! My FB Buddies say: “Mattingly has finally lost his f*cking mind!” 😉
Rally panties won’t even help this mess, but do wear them, superstitions work in baseball, or so we think!
Maybe I should just take the panties off 😉
Id like that!
Harang rates equal to Billz in my interest meter, but now that Kennedy’s hitting 5th on top of that, I’ll find some other form of entertainment for the evening.
We’re once again heading to laughing stock land.
I find it a bit surprising that Scioscia may be losing favor in Anaheim. He has done a terrific job there. I guess it is his fault Prince Albert is off to a bad start.
Pujols is starting to wake up….even though they lost today, he hit a HR….and, since that now makes 3 (I believe) all is well for Sir Albert…screw the team. I am here for myself!
The gnats bet the Cards…..another crappy event today!
