Rockin’ the Rockies!

Tattoo is back on the 25 man roster, due to Jerry Hairston being placed on the DL.  Hairston had a great run with some key hits and some incredible defensive gems at third base.  Too bad he had to go down with a hamstring injury.  I guess Uribe is just too fat to run fast enough to get a hamstring injury.

The following Dodgers will be in the starting lineup tonight against the aging (or ageless?) 49 year old Jamie Moyer.  Once again, if Kemp and Ethier don’t get it done, there’s not much likelihood we will see anything but a black hole from the bottom of the order.  I’m trying not to read too much into the fact that Treanor is starting instead of AJ Ellis.

The biggest question is – why do you bring up Scott Van Slyke, but start both left-handers Abreu and Loney against the lefty Moyer?  Give the kid – if 25 years old is still a kid – the at bats he needs.

Gordon SS

M Ellis 2B

Kemp CF

Ethier RF

Abreu LF

Uribe 3B

Loney 1B

Treanor C

Capuano P

Andy Van Slyke was just 4-for-19 against Moyer, but then again Andy was a lefty.

  2. trublu4ever says:

You’re right…it’s going to be left up to Matt & Dre tonight…too bad Donnie doesnt give a damn if we win or not!

  3. Gobias Bluth says:

Agreed! Why Loney tonight? I know he crushes the Rockies but that’s only @ Coors Field. Give Van Slyke some AB’s against a batting practice pitcher and let him build some confidence.

  4. enchantedbeaver says:

More of the same veteran crap we’ve seen for years now. Against such a soft tosser, it would be the perfect time to start Van Slyke, hence, let’s start Abreu instead.

    Here’s what will happen…

VanSlyke will get a sporadic start and hit about .200. He’ll actually get it going one game, a double, a homer, but Donnie will sit him on the bench again next game as a reward. Then they’ll send him back down because he doesn’t “get it” and we’ll be lucky if we ever hear from him again. Either that or Ned will trade him for Dotel.

  5. 32and53fan says:

Thanks for the nice post Crash. I have been busy and was hoping somebody else would come up with a new post for the Rockies game.
I would like to see Van Slyke also. But Abreu has been hitting pretty good so that’s probably why he is in there tonight.

    • trublu4ever says:

He and Abreu will be sharing time….he probably will start against most lefties (even though Moyer is a lefty, he doesn’t throw like one) according to the pre-game. Rivera will be out a looooooong time (ruptured tendon).

  6. vl4eccjr says:

This makes me wonder if Scott has ever been up against a soft tossing junk baller like Moyer before? Forget the radar gun with Jamie. Break out the hourglass. .

  7. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…way to go Mark!

  8. vl4eccjr says:

Wow! Mark Ellis with a dinger?

  9. enchantedbeaver says:

I’m sure Treanor, Capuano and Gordon strike fear in the great and powerful Jamie Moyer.

  10. vl4eccjr says:

Moyer is a sly one. He’s doing what he has to do to survive not throwing the same pitch & speed to the same batter.

  11. trublu4ever says:

There’s my boy! Way to go Dre!

  12. trublu4ever says:

  13. vl4eccjr says:

    WTG Bobby!

  14. enchantedbeaver says:

Is Capuano really this good, or did Ned just get lucky?

  15. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…..Loney & Treanor with hits!

  16. trublu4ever says:

    Dee is ticking me off!

    • enchantedbeaver says:

I figured Dee would have his struggles, but I wish Donnie would let him struggle in the 8 or 9 spot.

      • trublu4ever says:

They might do that. From what I’m hearing they are not too pleased with him and don’t know what to do.

  17. trublu4ever says:

    Thata boy, Mark….way to go!

  18. enchantedbeaver says:

Damn. Looks like I’m going to have to quit giving Mark Ellis shit for awhile.

  19. trublu4ever says:

    Yes! Dre!

  20. trublu4ever says:

Another blown call! Getting tired of this shit!

  21. enchantedbeaver says:

Have I ever mentioned that Uribe sucks?

  22. vl4eccjr says:

Clippers blew it. They couldn’t close it out at home. On to Memphis for game seven.

  23. enchantedbeaver says:

Is Loney approaching the Gordon line, or is Gordon approaching the Loney line?

  24. enchantedbeaver says:

Crap. That’ll keep Treanor on the team another 3 months.

  25. crash24now says:

    Dee has become Deedee

  26. vl4eccjr says:

  27. enchantedbeaver says:

    Guess Hershiser’s record is safe.

  29. crash24now says:

  30. vl4eccjr says:

Dre’s heating up. Matt’s cooling down.

  31. enchantedbeaver says:

Good situation for Javy to work out some kinks, though I wish he was working them out in Chattanooga.

  32. enchantedbeaver says:

At least two of those pitches were strikes.

  33. vl4eccjr says:

    What’dya know? Elbert showed up!

  34. trublu4ever says:

Holy shit…Uribe hit one for you Enchanted!

  35. vl4eccjr says:

Holy shit! Uribe hit one out?
Is the Earth coming off its axis?

  36. trublu4ever says:

Damn, Coffey is coming in the game….do we have enough runs to cover him?

  37. trublu4ever says:

Coffey is the one who needs to go! Can’t have him in a game when the game is on the line….hell, he can’t pitch period!

  38. enchantedbeaver says:

Maybe they’ll DFA Coffey after tonight’s game. That’s the only good I can see coming from his pitching this evening.

  39. crash24now says:

    Double defensive indifference!

  40. enchantedbeaver says:

You’re up 7-2 with two outs, how can you at least not throw strikes?

  41. nedisajerk says:

Damn I hate when a reliever don’t pitch in one week and look kind of rusty.

  42. trublu4ever says:

    I can’t stand him! 2 singles & a triple…wtf

  43. crash24now says:

Crap head! Get him off the freaking mound!

  44. vl4eccjr says:

  45. trublu4ever says:

    Finally! Way to go!

  46. enchantedbeaver says:

Only Donnie could use 4 pitchers to close out 2 innings of a 7-1 game.

  47. crash24now says:

Wow! Capuano is 5-0 with a 1.03 WHIP and a 2.06 ERA. Whodathunkit?

  48. oldbrooklynfan says:

Capuano was simply outstanding and it was a great night for Mark Ellis and Uribe finally got his first homer. Good to see Ethier with 32 RBI to go along with his 7 homers.

  49. nedisajerk says:

WB Miles damn what took them so long? Now they can DFA Kennedy for good.

  50. nellyjune says:

Glad to come home to see the Dodgers won. That play Andre had was awesome, but it always makes me cringe a tad hoping he didn’t hurt something, especially his knee.

  51. grizzy says:

    Miles is a good signing.
I’m wondering if Kemp should not sit a few games and let his injury heal. His numbers the last 10 games are not what he is capable of. He is such a presence, though, and just being there influences how pitcthers approach our lineup.

  52. lbirken says:

Wasn’t there a poll during spring training to predict who would be the first Dodger player to go on the DL due to a bad hammy?

  53. enchantedbeaver says:

Nice to see Van Slyke getting all this action as a reward for his PH the other night. He’s really going to be able to develop as a major leaguer sitting on the bench. Good call Donnie.

  54. vl4eccjr says:

Good evening all. It’s quite a busy sports evening.
    How’s it hanging?
    WTG Dre! The doubles machine!

  55. vl4eccjr says:

  56. enchantedbeaver says:

Looks like Harang finally pitched a good game.

  57. vl4eccjr says:

    WTG Tony!!!

  58. crash24now says:

    WTG TGJ!

  59. crash24now says:

    Let’s go, Kenley!

    • vl4eccjr says:

Great job! He had a tough row to hoe against their best hitters there. He’s settling down in the closing role nicely! 😉

  60. enchantedbeaver says:

    Kenley says, “Javy Who?”

  61. crash24now says:

Great game with little hitting! Nice save by Kenley!

  62. oldbrooklynfan says:

A fantastic 8 inning job. With Kemp’s bat silent it’s Uribe (double digets in RBI) and TGJ a hero again. Nice save by Jansen.
    GO DODGERS!!!!!

  63. 32and53fan says:

Dee Gordon almost ruined the last out by getting in the way of Uribe who had it all the way. I hope the coaches talk to him about his mental errors and teach him how the game is supposed to be played. Too much swagger, not enough thinking. Just like Kemp in 2010.

  64. JhallWally says:

Happy Mothers Day everyone. Especially all you Moms out there.

WTG Dodgers!! Let’s keep it going and sweep the Rocks for our two OTD moms in attendance, Tru and Nelly…

Hope Kemp breaks out of his recent slump today and Gordon contributes something.

  65. nellyjune says:

It was a great game to be at last night!! Dodgereric thinks TGJ should start in left field and lead off, move AJ up to 7th and bat bat Dee Gordon 8th. Always fabulous food for thought from him, and it’s great seeing him and Chris enjoying a Dodger game again after all the boycotting issues. Off to the game again today! This time Tru and I are with Matt and Mariya and couple of Matt’s friends. Have a wonderful day!!

    • JhallWally says:

Glad you are all enjoying yourselves. Go Dodgers!!!!

Kind of hoping you get to see VanSlyke start today…

Something is going to have to give if Gordon doesn’t start to put it together in the next 2-3 weeks…

  66. crash24now says:

Lilly to get little help from the offense today, as Donnie starts the “B” team – Kennedy and Sellers in, Uribe and Gordon out. Gwynn is in as leadoff hitter, hopefully that pays off as he has been hot.

  67. enchantedbeaver says:

If they aren’t going to play VanSlyke, why bother calling him up? By the time they put him in a game he’ll be so rusty he’ll stink, then they’ll send him down for lack of hitting.

  68. enchantedbeaver says:

I see Lilly’s back to his old self. Doubt this line-up can muster more than a run. I’ll check back later this afternoon to see the damage.

    • vl4eccjr says:

He never does well on Sundays. I can’t recall the last time Lilly pitched well in a day game. Hopefully he can get some run support. With this lineup, I might as well wish in one hand, and grunt in the other.

  69. messagebear says:

Have to sympathize with VanSlyke. Donnie is from the old Joe Torre school, which says that a rookie player brought up to the bigs needs to get comfortable with the bench in the major leagues and needs to get his head on straight before he’s “thrown” into the lineup. If he can’t produce under that scenario, of course, he needs to go back down and readjust, not to mention pulling out the splinters from the dugout bench out of his ass. That’s how real major league players were made in Joe’s day, and Donnie is going to stick with that.

  70. crash24now says:

Uh oh. Matt Kemp got pulled from the game after three innings. Hamstring issue?

  71. crash24now says:

Abreu with a bases-loaded double and the lead!

  72. crash24now says:

    AJ!!!!! You kiddin’ me?

  73. enchantedbeaver says:

Why wasn’t AJ playing more last year? I really like this guy.

  74. enchantedbeaver says:

Dre ejected. Maybe now Van Slyke can play.

  75. enchantedbeaver says:

And I take it back – they were able to scrore more than a run with this line-up.

  76. enchantedbeaver says:

Walk and a stolen base – that probably just earned VanSlyke another week on the bench.

  77. vl4eccjr says:

I’ve already maxed out my All Star votes for A.J. I sure hope the rest of you outsiders do the same. 😉

  78. enchantedbeaver says:

    Atta boy Scotty!

  79. crash24now says:

Sweet SVS!!! That double will get you sent straight back to ‘Querque!

  80. vl4eccjr says:

WOW! Scott is making the most of his little playing time for sure!

  81. nellyjune says:

Scott’s feeling the OTD love 🙂

  82. vl4eccjr says:

    SWEEP!!! Nothing like home cooking!

  83. koufax1963 says:

I found my broom! lots of acton in this game. what a series, now getting some offense from dodgers that play off the grass.

  84. oldbrooklynfan says:

  85. trublu4ever says:

Good Morning OTD…..had a blast this weekend watching the Dodgers play. Nothing better than seeing a ball game in person.

    • trublu4ever says:

…’s a great feeling, even with Lilly struggling, giving up 3 runs in the first inning, thinking, no problem, we can handle it and, by God we did!
