A Giant rubber match

Despite one mistake that turned into a two run home run, Kershaw pitched another good game.  Unfortunately, the offense could only come up with a single run and Clayton’s winning streaks against the Giants and the league came to an end.  So did the Dodgers position as the best team in the NL.  They are now tied with St. Louis for the best record.  They have matched the Giants in their last ten games, each team going 5-5.

Ethier’s GIDP to kill the rally last night was not surprising given his .227 batting average in the last seven games.

Tonight’s lineup:

  1. Gordon SS
  2. Kennedy 2B
  3. Kemp CF
  4. Ethier RF
  5. Abreu LF
  6. Uribe 3B
  7. Loney 1B
  8. AJ Ellis C
  9. Billingsley P

Nice title to the post, 32and53!

  2. 32and53fan says:

Juan Rivera to the disabled list. Van Slyke called up.

    • crash24now says:

He better get some starts soon. We’d like to see what he’s got.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

You buy old, you get old.

What do you want to bet though that old man Abreu gets most of the starts in left, and Van Slyke will get an AB here an AB there, then get sent down because he’s hitting .200 and needs to “learn how to be a major leaguer.”

Start the kid, play the kid.

  3. 32and53fan says:

Scott Van Slyke, who is 25, was hitting .336 with eight homers and 25 RBIs at Albuquerque, playing mostly in the outfield but occasionally at first base.

  4. JhallWally says:

I certainly hope they brought up VanSlyke to get a good look at what we may have going forward. There is most assuredly no future upside with Rivera/Abreu. And no current upside for that matter…

Good Chad / Bad Chad scorecard for 2012 – Which will we get tonight?

April 6 vs. Pads: 8 innings 3 hits no runs – Good Chad
April 11 vs Pirates: 6 innings 5 hits 1 runs – Good Chad
April 17 vs Selig: 6 innings 5 hits 2 runs – Good Chad (not bad)
April 22 vs ‘Stros: – we lose 12-0 – Disastrous Chad
    April 27 vs Nat’ls – 7 innings 5 hits 1 run – Good Chad
    May 4 vs Cubs – 6 innings 8 hits 4 runs – Bad Chad

  6. nedisajerk says:

    Gordon SS
    Kemp CF
Ethier 1st (If Green can do it sure can him.)
Sands 3rd (If only he can played 3rd)
    Abreu LF
    Van Slyke RF
Ellis 2nd (Sorry Mark I have to put you down here.)
    Ellis C

  7. trublu4ever says:

A little scary but, we survived the 1st!

  8. trublu4ever says:

    Sweet swing, Dre!

  9. trublu4ever says:

Way to go A.J. Saved Billz for the moment!

  10. trublu4ever says:

Chad throws way too many pitches….don’t like all the walks.

  11. trublu4ever says:

  12. enchantedbeaver says:

Pretty much need to dump Billz at the trade deadline also. He’s as much the enigma as Loney.

  13. enchantedbeaver says:

These guys will be lucky to get a run off Timmy. They’re starting to play down to the level that they looked to be on paper.

  14. vl4eccjr says:

Crap! Looks like we got bad Chad tonight. He’s not fooling anyone.

  15. trublu4ever says:

I don’t think Gordon is ready for Prime Time.

  16. vl4eccjr says:

The only good things about this game so far are, it’s an MLB.TV freebie, Vin’s on the mike, and I don’t have to listen to Charlie.

  17. vl4eccjr says:

    Woo hoo!
    WTG Tony!!!

  18. enchantedbeaver says:

    Damn! How’d that happen?

  19. vl4eccjr says:

I have to wonder if Kennedy’s batting average will ever surpass his playing weight this season.. . .

  20. enchantedbeaver says:

    Oh dear God!

  21. nedisajerk says:

Do my eyes deceive me or did Wright pitch 2 innings without given up a hit and runs? Only the Giants would do that.

  22. nedisajerk says:

Did Broxton just get another saves vs the Red Sox? Look like he had some trouble but his ERA/WHIP and baa still look good.

  23. trublu4ever says:

    YAY…..triple for A.J.!

  24. nedisajerk says:

Wow 12-8 in the 4th for the Clippers with 1:25 left in the 4th. Grizzles is trying to give this game away.

  25. vl4eccjr says:

Wow! AJ just missed a dinger. I’m sure he’s happy with a 3 bagger though!

  26. trublu4ever says:

Way to go Scott! Welcome to L.A.!

  27. vl4eccjr says:

    Welcome to the show Scott!

  28. enchantedbeaver says:

Atta Boy Scotty!! And on an 0-2 pitch to boot.

    I anoint him starting LFer.

  29. enchantedbeaver says:

Can’t complain about the PHing tonight. Helps when Kennedy’s starting…

  30. vl4eccjr says:

Scott must have grown up well fed. I could tell by the way he measured up walking next to Matt heading for the dugout. Big dude!

  31. nedisajerk says:

    Congrats Van Slyke

  32. trublu4ever says:

    Belli is a wild thing!

  33. enchantedbeaver says:

Whew. Beli was doing his best impression of Javy.

  34. nedisajerk says:

Hey vl4 what do you think about that lineup I had lol.

  35. trublu4ever says:

    Nice inning, Josh!

  36. trublu4ever says:

What the hell, Uribe has 2 hits!

  37. enchantedbeaver says:

    Nice insurance run.

  38. trublu4ever says:

Nice! Tru is very happy right now!

  39. sparkleplenty1 says:

Do you think Vinny was being facetious when he said that it being a bunt situation explains why Harang is pinch hitting? I sure do 🙂

  40. vl4eccjr says:

Pretty sparse crowd for a Giant rivalry game. 😦

  41. enchantedbeaver says:

Hensley should be taken out and shot for walking Kennedy on 4.

  42. trublu4ever says:

    Come on Kenley….squish these gnats!

  43. trublu4ever says:

    Okay! Nice win guys!

  44. sparkleplenty1 says:

We took the G’nats 2 out of 3. Yippeeee!!!

  45. enchantedbeaver says:

Had my doubts after they beat Kersh and we had Billz going, but we seem to have Timmy’s number.

    • sparkleplenty1 says:

Me too – but at least we have SOMEBODY’S number!

      • nedisajerk says:

The Giants last win against Kershaw was Aug 1 2010 so they were due for a win against Kershaw is just to bad both of his career losses came when he gave up 2 runs. I was hoping that Kershaw would tied Esking(sp) for most home wins.

    • nellyjune says:

…..everyone except Matt. He wasn’t so MVP tonight against their 4th best pitcher.

    • vl4eccjr says:

Me three. Luckily Gwynn cashed in on that mistake by Lincescum.

  46. nedisajerk says:

The Giants should be ban for playing in any league for letting Wright pitch 2 innings with no hits no runs.

  47. oldbrooklynfan says:

It was good to see TGJ come up with those 3 big RBI and help us beat the Giants and congratulations to Scott Van Slyke on his first hit and RBI, becoming the first Dodger in 51 years to do it in his first game in the majors.

  48. kahliforni says:

My son asked me to check home runs…and the great José Offerman hit a home run in his first major league at bat against the Expos, on August 19, 1990, at Dodger Stadium…long after 1961. Could be wrong. Anyone bored enough to check?

    • enchantedbeaver says:

I remember that Kahli, but in fact, he wasn’t the last Dodger to hit a HR in his first ML AB. It was the great Garey Ingram:

Ingram made his Major League Baseball debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 15, 1994 as a defensive replacement against the San Diego Padres. His first career hit was a home run against Colorado Rockies pitcher Mike Munoz on May 19. He appeared in 26 games for the Dodgers that season, hitting .282 with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs.

      • kahliforni says:

Yes, enchanted one…but the homer was hit on the road…remember, I was bored here at work teaching summer-dreaming teenagers and saw the same list. So that’s why it didn’t count against the Dodger Stadium record. Pretty sure Offerman hit his at home. And even though I’m answering your entry, I’m still bored with teenagers!!!!

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

I checked this out and found out that you are absolutely correct but when posting it on the TBLA forum I was told that Van Slyke’s hit was in reference to pinch hits.

    • nellyjune says:

This doesn’t surprise me at all!! …and yes, some parents are this dumb. Simple example even at my level (1st grade). I had to be out for a couple of days for a training, and the substitute I have (knowing she would be here multiple days) did a contest among the groups. Whoever got the most points, won a treat. One student went home and said what had happened, and the parent called complaining (to my principal no-less)because her child didn’t get the treat, and that if you give it to one, you need to give it to all of them. Ummmmm…..no, it was a competition, and your child didn’t win. It’s all part of the more global issue of entitlement….the reason why our government is so screwed up, but that’s a whole other soapbox issue 🙂

    • kahliforni says:

If he had donated funds to the program, he probably would have started at shortstop and batted first….

  49. crash24now says:

Jerry Hairston has a strained hamstring. So maybe Justin Sellers will be back up tomorrow night?

  50. JhallWally says:

Hey Nelly and Tru, hope you have a great time at Dodger Stadium.
Think of me when your eating that Dodger Dog.
    Stadium mustard and onions please.

  51. koufax1963 says:

Article on Kim Ng on MSN, very interesting read, even Bob Daley says he made a mistake when he did not hire her for the GM job.
