The Dodgers, who have several players with nagging injuries, have limped back to LA after a losing road trip against two teams near the bottom of their division.
Ted Lilly hopes to get the team back on the winning track tonight.
Former Dodger pitcher Bobby Castillo suffered a stroke according to the blog Vin Scully is my Home Boy.
Our new owners have flat out lied to us about Frank McCourt getting revenue from current operations. Frank has to be sitting at home giddily laughing his ass off thinking about how he was able to buy the Dodgers using none of his own money, rip the organization into several different legal entities, avoid losing the team to the MLB by using bankruptcy laws, and sell the team with about a billion dollars going into his pocket, and still be getting 7 million dollars a year income from leasing the land. I’d like to see what would happen if any of us tried to sell our houses, but keep the land and charge the new buyers rent for the privilege of letting the building rest on our property.
Wow, what a surprise: new ownership lied to the fans. There is so much more to be gained by just telling the truth but that never seems to happen. Clearly the only way Guggenheim or any other group could “win” the bidding proces was by getting into bed with McCourt, even if it is a small bed. Joe Torre’s group and perhaps others were not willing to do so. And I suppose it is true that McCourt is not getting parking revenue directly but he is getting his share no matter how many or how few cars park on the stadium lots. The sad thing is we still care about this deal. Shame on Guggenheim for not facing this issue square up with the fans.
It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth to watch those guys avoid telling the whole truth about the sale agreement. I would have liked it better if they said that McCourt was a smart businessman to tear the Dodgers into many pieces and he was adamant to keep some ownership of the land for the sale of the team to go forward. It would have been nice if they also admitted that they really did not mind that McCourt continues to own 50% of the land since that avoided the property being reassessed and thus they avoid having to pay millions of dollars in property taxes each year.
I certainly would accept such an explanation. Certainly would have put the issue to rest.

Thanks, Crash.
Jansen has replaced Guerra as the closer.
Former Dodger reliever gets busted big time! Too bad for the Gnats!
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/San-Francisco-Giants-Guillermo-Mota-gets-100-game-drug-suspension-050712
”The Giants are disappointed to learn of Guillermo Mota’s suspension,” the team said in a statement. “We really wished he’d have talked to Barry first so he’d have learned how to avoid detection.” “This has also prompted us to now step up our efforts with MLB to legalize drugs just in the offhand event that Timmy isn’t tipped off before a new round of testing.”
LMFAO ( ( 🙂 ) )
Well, well, Enchanted has finally left me speechless! lmao!
It must be true – I haven’t seen a post from Tru since.
I’m Baaaaaack! 😉
E, you just made my day – ROFLMAO!!!
Now Mota can hang out with Alberto Contador and blame a bad Spanish steak for all the clenbuterol…
Clenbuterol – didn’t he pitch for the old St. Louis Browns?
Nice veteran play by Uribe popping up rather than getting his man over to third.
Juan Uribe = Useless
Do our pitchers even take batting practice? I know a lot of them throw it during a game, but do they actually take it?
I think Kersh does…he is a very good bunter…..Uribe says he has never had to lay down a bunt….what a piece of work!!
A man was sitting on a blanket at the beach.
He had no arms and no legs.
Three women (from England, Wales , and Ireland ) were walking past and felt sorry for the poor man.
The English woman said, ‘Have you ever had a hug?’ The man said, ‘No,’ so she gave him a hug and walked on.
The Welsh woman said, ‘Have you ever had a kiss?’ The man said, ‘No,’ so she gave him a kiss and walked on.
The Irish woman came to him and said,’ave ya ever been fooked, Laddie?’ The man broke into a big smile and said,`no´.
She said, ‘Aye – You will be when the tide comes.
.
.
.
.
Here’s hoping the tide comes in on Ned soon.
Oh, God…lmfao!
LOL!!! Funny, and I hope so 🙂
Reminds me of the old Molly Malone fable:
They said she was a celibate woman. She’d sell a bit here, and sell a bit there. . . .
Good eye Dre! Nice!!
I thought you liked his butt.
Yes I do….. And, Nellyjune & I will get to see it close up on
Saturday & Sunday 😉
No nurse, I wanted a butt light.
Dodgereric too…although I don’t think he will care as much about Dre’s ass as we do!
You’re probably right.
Not sure where they are sitting, but Chris and Eric are there tonight 🙂
I actually do like the eyes.
Way to go Dre!!! Nice at bat! Way to get the run in Juan!!
Oh well. One run beats none.
If Uribe were batting then, we would have none!
I’m finding this years team every bit as entertaining as last years…
Dee DOH!!!
Double dose!
Damn, Dee…tighten up your defense! Unacceptable!!!!! Justin would have made that play!
Whew…we escaped!
Gordon. 40 errors – over or under? I say over.
Way over!
Damn Gordon we was tied #1 in fpct in the NL now we’re probably dropped to 4th and were tied for 3rd in errors 17. The Giants are still dead last so it’s time for them to make some errors.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/fielding/league/nl/sort/fieldingPct/order/true
Sheeeeit!
Don’t know who those guys were that started the season, but we’re seeing the real team Ned put together now.
Vl4 did you see the Caps/Rangers games or maybe you don’t care about it but looking at the boxscore the Rangers scored with 7 sec left and they won in OT.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/boxscore?gid=2012050713
I missed the OT, but saw the end of regulation. Tough series!
Congrats to the Spurs on sweeping the Jazz!
Alright AJ!!!!!!
A.J. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep Lilly in!!! Uggghhh!!!!
He could have gone another inning easily. Lilly is a good bunter. Maybe he could have made the squeeze work too.
Wow! A tight squeeeeeze indeed!
At least Lilly’s off the hook.
Glad we got the run, but with our bullpen, taking Lilly out was a mistake IMO.
That suck they should give Gwynn the rbi.
Ouch that guy Schierholtz was like 2/27 and got a PH hit go figure.
Okay, guys, about 4 more runs and I can feel a little bit comfortable.
Good job, Matty!
The Giants are giving us lots of nice gifts tonight. Glad we’re able to take advantage of them.
Yay…somebody else is playing sloppy!
Wow! A gift wrapped run!
Matt continue to sizzle, while Uribum contines to fizzle!
I sure hope Matt’s hammy is okay.
Tain’t purdy, but we’ll take anything we can get.
Coyotes advance to play the Kings in the NHL west. Should be a good series!
Go Kings Go!
I think Quick has had the best showing so far in the playoffs as far as goalie play goes. He sure has been tough.
I wanted the Predators. The Kings matchup very well with them.
Whew! Dodged a bullet there! Nice play Loney!
That play was awesome!
James may not hit a lick but, his glove is golden!
Happy Birthday, Mr. Loney!
Ha-Ha, Buster Pussy!
The Bad News Bears 😉
Woo-Hoo!
Jeez, let Lindblom bat for himself.
Oh, my….Kennedy even had a hit!
Wow! If Kennedy gets a PH RBI hit off you, you might as well cancel Christmas!
🙂 Andre!
I jinx them and said the Giants need to make some errors glad I did that.
Damn, that hit will keep Kennedy on the team another month.
Bragging rights, bragging rights, bragging rights!!!
.
Way to go Dre!! 30 RBIs
Nice! Love it!
I love it when the plan comes together! 😉
Kennedy is a Angels killer 3 homerun in 1 game against them in the WS.
Coffey time now in the 9th?
No…I want to win this game 😉
Pretty bad when Mattingly won’t even give him the ball with an 8 run lead and one inning to go.
No need for K-J, but Coffey? UGH!
Dbacks & Rockies both lost…awesome!
Gosh I hate 2 strike hit.
How’d Theriot end up on the Gnats?
Nice win, guys! Keep it up tomorrow!
Woo hoo! Nice start for the series!
We’ll take it.
Nite all.
Did they take that Kemp error away? Lilly run should’ve been unearned.
Well an easy victory for a change, can always use one of them once in a while. Another fantastic start for Lilly, now 4-0. Ethier’s 30th RBI, Rivera 13 and A.J. 11
Nice win Dodgers!!! Do it again tomorrow! Can always use some more bragging rights at home and school!
You know, I just don’t get it. When Martin, Loney, Ethier and Kemp came up, I figured Loney would eventually bat 3rd. He has that sweet swing and he’s shown he can hit, so where did his brains go?
In candid photos taken lately, he looks unhappy. Even in a Post Game TV interview after doing well, they told him he looked too serious and it was ok to smile. Maybe his problem is mental?
Classic double-speak by Stan Kasten, commenting on Colletti, whose guaranteed portion of contract expires at the end of this season:
“I think you should regard Ned as permanent,” Kasten said. “That would be the case whether he’s here for 20 years or a much shorter period.”
I regard Ned as a dumbass who seems like he’s been here 20 years though its been a much shorter period.
Let’s say Ned is around for a while…..wouldn’t the new owners have a yea or nay vote as to who he wants to sign? Perhaps, we don’t want anymore old farts! Or, Ned, you must be kidding on this one 😉
I wouldn’t call Kasten’s statement exactly a vote of confidence for Ned.
That game last night made Donnie look like a genius. He puts gwynn in CF, and he makes a great cut off to hold the runner to 2nd, and puts loney in at 1B and he saves two runs and a runner at 2nd situation, when it was just a 4-1 game, that could of given the gnats momentum, but “NO”.
It was the gnats who looked really pathetic, they gave the game away in the 8th. To the people still knocking Loney, I understand when the overall BA, RBI,HR is taken in to account, but he put the bat on the ball last night with authority, I think he will come around and those balls will get through for hits, if Donnie plays him regularly. I think he is in the moment, soon his groove will come. Optimist fan, you bet I am.
Wow, what a beat down of the G’nats last night. Hopefully Kersh can keep it going.
I’m still not real happy that the first act of the new ownership was to blatently lie to the fans. They didn’t even lie straight faced. They had Magic do it with a big goofy grin. They must think the Dodger fans are pretty stupid. In the end, they may be right.
Guess it may be easier to dance with the devil you know instead of someone you really don’t know. But Frank really did need to go – the problem is, he’s just not gone far.
I was willing to concede to McCourt participating in any future development of the land since he was smart enough to use his pricey financial and legal advisers to strip it from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Inc. and Bud Selig caved by allowing it to happen. But to see Magic tell his boss to go to the podium and “tell it straight to these people,” and get all huffy because the question about McCourt having any current financial participation was asked three times is a little hard to handle.
The Guggenheim group should have had to courage to agree to the future development participation but say no way to paying to lease the land unless it was for a dollar a year for legal reasons. McCourt will get plenty of income from investing his billion dollar profit and stands to make a lot more when the property is fully developed.
I thought the purchase price was more than enough to include the land but I guess the market said otherwise. Too bad O’Malley and Fox did not have the killer capitalist instinct and foresight to keep the land when they sold the team. So, while I abhor Frank McCourt, he used the business laws of this country to his full advantage and to the victor go the spoils. So congratulations you capitalist m****rf****r. You and Charlie Sheen can toss back a few drinks and chant “Winning!” in celebration to your financial victories. Just don’t expect too many people to show up at your funeral.
According to today’s paper the Guggenheimers acknowledged they were not exactly forthright in answering questions about the relationship with Frank McCourt. I am convinced the reporters who kept pressing for answers at the ownership ceremonies last week knew they were not getting a straight answer and all the smiles from Magic were not going to make this question go away. I have to assume the only way to make this deal work for the Guggenheimers was to include a deal with Frank, who has outlasted and outsmarted Bud Selig, Jamie, the courts and just about everyone else. There is no reason to lie about it and hopefully this sort of behavior is not indicative of what is to come.
Link? Or name of paper?
According to Frank McCourt’s real estate attorney who closed the deal:
“…Guggenheim Baseball Management has purchased the team, stadium and land for $2 billion and the parking area for $150 million in a separate transaction. GBM then sold the parking area back to a joint venture consisting of McCourt and GBM, allowing McCourt to have reasonable control over the parking for Dodger Stadium.”
L.A. Times Sports, C6, the same place where Kasten makes the puzzling comment about Ned being permanent whether that means 20 years or a much shorter period. It is in the middle of the article and refers to a meeting Kasten had with Times reporters with Kasten regretting giving the impression McCourt would make no money beyond future development. It should be noted it was not Kasten who made the remarks but Johnson and Walters.
Casey Blake has announced his retirement after a 13 year career. Best wishes to you, Casey, in whatever you choose to do.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/league/nl
This should not happen and we are the only NL team that given up more walks than run scored.
Here’s hoping Kesh ia lights-out tonight and, we give him lots of run support. GO DODGERS!
Rangers Josh Hamilton’s having a good week tonight in Baltimore. Three 2 run homers gives him the ML lead in HR’s (13) & RBI’s (34). He currently has the AL lead in AVG with .400 too.
Looks like he’ll get another crack this game too.
Holy shit! Make that 4 homers with 8 RBI’s going 5 for 5 off 3 different pitchers. The 16th 4 homer game in ML history.
.406 avg, 14 HR’s, & 36 RBI’s. I think it would be safe to say he likes Camden Yards!
He sure is an amazing hitter to say the least.
I can understand doing it again a last place team with in the middle of the pacK in team ERA but the Orioles has been a surpirse team this year and had the 2nd best ERA in the major.
It just proves the old adage that good hitting can defeat the best pitching on any given day of the week – and vice versa!
…..and, he is a free agent after this season. Hint, Hint, Magic & Co.
This is true, Tru – and I LOVE how you think 😉
It’ll never happen. The Rangers won’t let it, and now that its perceived that L.A. has money to spend, most teams will lock-up their best at least through their first 2-3 FA years.
He’s going to be bringing in some serious paper next year wherever he plays.
Come on, don’t spoil it for me 😉 I can make a wish list can’t I ?
Damn!
Damn, Kersh!
It’s okay….we can score more than they will!
I am a bit concerned about Kersh’s giving up dingers in his last few games.
I don’t mind a solo….not happy about it when guys are on base.
All right, Dre.
Way to get us started, Dre!
Okay, Juan…way to move him over!
Woo-Hoo, james!
James!!!! Awesome!!!!! We have to cue up the Loney Song 🙂
WTG James!! Back above the Mendoza line!
He’s been getting good contact, just hitting the ball at people. He is due to come around and be the Loney we all know and love 🙂
It would be easier and, he’d have more confidence if Donnie would let him play!
Absolutely! I just don’t understand why Donnie doesn’t ask us for our opinions. We obviously know the game and the team better than he does 😉
We sure do 😉 Gordon plays everyday…so, Loney should too!
I respect that logic, Tru.
Grrrrrrr!
Another grrrrr!
Loney!! What a nice play.
I see we’re grinding again tonight. Be nice if they’d ever get Kersh some runs to work with once in awhile.
It’s never good when the offense grinds to a halt. .
Rally Time!
F*ck!
Uribe was safe…Damn!
We got a little rally going . . . . keeping my fingers crossed, which makes keyboarding a little difficult 😉
URIBE!!!!
The rally killer!!
If it’s not Uribe it’s Rivera doing the killing. Sheesh!!!
Pathetic.
Here we go team, here we go! clap ….. clap!
Bochy is a wuss!
That’s OK, here comes Make ’em Pay Dre.
I believe Bochy may be than shifty eyed Mike Shanahan’s long lost brother. . .
I don’t blame him – keeping my fingers crossed for Andre!
Sumbitch!!
Pitiful.
Here we go. Do or die. Crossing my fingers & toes. Rally cap on. Whiskey at the ready. . .
Uribe blew this game.
Rubber game tomorrow.
Well at least it wasn’t a sudden ending. Typical 2012 loss. Kershaw goes a full 8 quality start but the Dodgers still lose. This time the offense couldn’t spell Vogelsong.
Bragging rights got evened out tonight in the game department, but I still have bragging rights in the standings department. Let’s win the rubber match tomorrow and take the series.
Uribe is useless, put sellers at 3rd, for a change. and I really have to wonder about donnie’s strategy in the 8th, ellis bunts with 0 outs, takes the bat out of kemps hand, if he was trying to avoid the DP, well ethier crashed that plan, even the giants annoucers were predicting that point. poor execution of a poor plan. Kersh threw a good game.
Dodgers have been playing .500 ball for a while now, 10-10 since starting 9-1, which is about right, given the team’s make-up right now. Solid pitching, woeful offense beyond that Kemp/Ethier creature. Division is weak, Dodgers will contend all season, and hopefully, reinforcements will come at the usual juncture.
If Mattingly can pull the trigger in demoting Guerra for a while, then he has to do the same thing with Gordon leading off. Vin keeps saying how Mark Ellis thrives with nobody on base…sounds like a lead-off hitter to me. Kemp batting second and Ethier third might get them an extra at-bat in games down the line. Their offense will look a little different, but Kemp won’t be walked as much in the two hole.
Just food for thought. Like I said a few days ago, bat Gordon 9th, pitcher 8th…when the order turns over, same old look. Take pressure off the kid. He’s gripping the bat so tight I can see sawdust.
Interesting plan, Kahli. I for one would like to see how that works, but it is so unorthodox that you can’t possibly expect Donny to consider it.
Nope….Donnie is not the smartest cookie in the box!
No Tru, he’s not… And he reiterated it last night. What a tool…
Check out Tony Jackson’s Twitter feed. He hopes reporters ream Mattingly for his sacrifice stupidity.
Here’s the problem though, Ellis has to sacrifice in that position even if it takes the bat out of Kemp’s hands.
1. You have to stay out of the DP.
2. You can’t hit and run because if Ellis misses, Abreu was the runner at second, and Dee Gordon he isn’t.
3. Assuming you figure Kemp’s going to be IBB, you have the NL’s leading RBI guy up with the bases loaded and one out and have to think you’re in pretty decent shape at that point.
Had Dee just sacrificed rather than get a hit, Ellis takes his shot, then they still IBB Kemp. Unfortunately for Donnie, Dre just screwed the pooch.
Yep, Ethier bombed big time. He is grossly overrated. Another great April and mediocrity the rest of the season. Sorry gals, eye candy doesn’t produce runs….
Dildon and Fecolletti keep trying to put lipstick on the pigs. Rivera, Abreu, Loweenio, Uribum, Kennedy, etc….
You retired your pig Gravatar too soon Beav.
http://www.thinkbluela.com/index.php/2012/05/09/its-time-to-get-rid-of-the-sow/
It’s time to get rid of alot of Neds crap. Starting with Ned and Dildon….
2013 Contract Issues:
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/05/2013-contract-issues-los-angeles-dodgers.html
This one is easy. Let’em all walk except AJ Ellis…..
It’s too early to write off Ethier. See what he does for the full 2012 season, then make a decision.
As for Uribe, Rivera, and Loney: those guys need to be replaced as soon as possible. July 31st is not soon enough.
I may be wishing for too much, but it’s Guggenheim money, not mine. I’d like to get Josh Hamilton and David Wright. Add them to a lineup that includes Kemp and Ethier, then we would have a real offense.
Should be able to get a decent haul for Dre at the deadline. Even Loney might bring someone halfway decent for a team that loses its 1B to injury. No way I re-sign either of the two. AJ I’d offer arbitration. The rest nobody in their right mind would want, which explains why we’ve got them.
And why in hell would you give Treanor an option year or a $150K buyout? The sonofabitch should’ve had to beg just to get an NRI in the first place.
Keep Ethier. The guy is gold-glove, power-hitting left-handed bat. You want to improve? Start with 3rd base and left field.
New post.
