The dawn of a new era

A press conference, emceed by Vin Scully, introduced the new owners, Guggenheim Baseball Management, LLC.

Each owner on the dais mentioned their commitment to returning the Dodgers to their winning tradition.

Magic invited people to give him a call and instructed his staff to make sure the questions are answered.  He also Stan Kasten announced a dedicated new email address, fanbox@ladodgers.com, to receive any ideas and suggestions from fans.  He added, “We want to hear from all of you. Send us your thoughts and your suggestions … this is how we’re going to do it.”

Magic even had controlling owner Mark Walter take to the podium to reiterate that Frank McCourt will not receive a red cent from the operations of the team.  He will only share in equity from any future development of the land, of which there are currently no plans.

Johnson also announced an immediate reduction of the parking fee to $10.

Happy days are here again!

From Dylan Hernandez: Mattingly: Uribe’s wrist seems worse than it was last time. Will see how it responds over next day to determine whether he has to go on DL.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Meanwhile on a team already too heavily loaded with pitchers so as to have an extremely thin bench, we’ll play a man short (well two if you go by size) making that bench even thinner (but suddenly much lighter.)

      Kersh better be on today.

  2. crash24now says:

I think the $10 parking fee is huge – it really underscores the fact that Frank the parking lot attendant is gone.

  3. 32and53fan says:

    Dodgers lineup:
    LF Gwynn Jr.
    2B Ellis
    CF Kemp
    1B Rivera
    RF Ethier
    3B Hairston Jr.
    SS Sellers
    C Ellis
    P Kershaw

  4. trublu4ever says:

    Let’s win this one, boys!

  5. enchantedbeaver says:

I just emailed Magic. Told him to improve the team 10-fold, fire Ned immediately.

  6. vl4eccjr says:

Sad news. Former all pro Charger LB Junior Seau found dead.http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/junior-seau-shooting-at-home-050212

  7. trublu4ever says:

    Nice, Kersh!

  8. enchantedbeaver says:

I see we have our WTF line-up in there today.

If Kemp and Dre don’t hit, this team don’t score.

  9. enchantedbeaver says:

You mean somebody’s actually getting smart and pitching around Kemp?

  10. crash24now says:

    Make ’em pay! (Rivera????)

  11. trublu4ever says:

Mark finally drives in a run, scoring A.J….like it!

  12. nedisajerk says:

Broxton is in for a save opp against the Tigers.

  13. nellyjune says:

I may be stepping out on a limb here, but I’m thinking we no longer have to separate Matt and Andre with Rivera on lefty pitching days. I think Andre has done pretty well so far, and all this does is make the other team not have to really pitch to either one of them.

  14. enchantedbeaver says:

How is a guy hitting in the 240’s with 1HR any protection for Matt? Another Ned turd in the punchbowl – expecting Rivera to even remotely duplicate what he did last year.

  15. crash24now says:

I get the whole left vs. left thing, sure. But Ethier is still our best option to follow Kemp in the lineup regardless of who is the starting pitcher. Who else do we have? Rivera? great. Uribe? no. AJ Ellis? not likely. Hairston? not much power there.

Just leave Kemp/Ethier in as the 3/4 every day. Like in “Every Day ‘Dre”.

  16. crash24now says:

    Great minds think alike. three-for-three.

  17. nellyjune says:

Way to go Brox!! Oh wait!! Not on our team anymore – lol!!!

  18. enchantedbeaver says:

    Boy we’re really thumping today.

I’d normally say just put your best players in there regardless of who’s pitching, but unfortunately, I think they’re in there.

  19. vl4eccjr says:

    OUCH!

  20. crash24now says:

I was gonna say we’re going to need a lot more runs, but I didn’t want to jinx it. I didn’t know thoughts can jinx us, too. Need thought control!!!!!

  21. JhallWally says:

    Rats!!!!

  22. vl4eccjr says:

    Sheeeeit!

  23. enchantedbeaver says:

The boys can’t expect Kersh to be perfect every time out. They need somebody to start stepping up and helping Kemp & Dre out once in awhile. This line-up’s pathetic.

    • JhallWally says:

The bad part is, this is about as good as we can field right now. Even if Dee and Loney are playing instead of Sellers and Rivera, it isn’t any better. And Kennedy and Treanor are a total waste..

      • enchantedbeaver says:

That is the sad part Wally. You can interchange just about anyone else we have and its still pathetic.

        • enchantedbeaver says:

When you can’t get anything off of Drew Pomeranz at Coors Field, that should tell you right there that maybe you should be looking for some alternatives.

      • trublu4ever says:

Maybe this will finally be Ned’s undoing.

  24. trublu4ever says:

Whoa…that was a shitty call! A good 2 feet off the bag!

  25. vl4eccjr says:

    WTF? This ump crew stinks!

  26. vl4eccjr says:

A.J needs to move up in the batting order.

  27. crash24now says:

    Rally caps! RALLY CAPS!

  28. trublu4ever says:

    I using my rally panties!

  29. trublu4ever says:

Here we go…heart of the order!!

  30. crash24now says:

Kershaw needs to go two more innings, because I don’t trust the bullpen to shut out the Rockies at Coors Field.

  31. trublu4ever says:

    Damn, Juan!

    • crash24now says:

Gameday is describing all of Juan’s batted balls as “softly”, as in “lined softly to 2b” or “popped out softly to pitcher”.

So, now we have another Juanpy and he is batting in the cleanup spot? Huh????

  32. vl4eccjr says:

    Grinding.

  33. trublu4ever says:

    Nice, Dre!

  34. vl4eccjr says:

Nice piece of hitting by Dre!
    C’mon Hairston!

  35. JhallWally says:

C’mon Jerry, get the run in….

  36. trublu4ever says:

    Jerry!

  37. JhallWally says:

    Wah-Hoo, WTG Jerry!!!

  38. nedisajerk says:

Can we just leave Hairston at 3rd and release Uribe?

  39. crash24now says:

    Nice hitting, Jerry!

  40. enchantedbeaver says:

Gotta admit, Hairston’s a lot better sign than I gave him credit for.

  41. JhallWally says:

    Loweenio is back.. Damn….

  42. enchantedbeaver says:

I’m really liking AJ. Whether he makes an out or not he gets in there and battles the pitcher just about every AB.

  43. nedisajerk says:

I was hoping Ellis didn’t get on base because I had a bad feeling that Donny was going to PH him for Kennedy but we still might see him in the 9th.

    • crash24now says:

Ouch! Outside of Treanor, Kennedy is the only one left on the bench. Can we use Billz as a pinch hitter?

      • nedisajerk says:

I did forgot Gordon but would’ve he had PH for the Kershaw instead of Kennedy?

        • crash24now says:

Yeah, Gordon would’ve been a PH option if the rally had continued. But now he’s in the game, so that just leaves Kennedy.

  44. vl4eccjr says:

At least A.J. battles at the plate & makes the pitcher work.

  45. crash24now says:

    Dammit!

  46. vl4eccjr says:

CRAP!!! I think Kersh got cold from that long wait.

  47. trublu4ever says:

    Ugh!

  48. nedisajerk says:

Fowler still continue to own Kershaw amazing.

  49. vl4eccjr says:

F*cking Cargo wears the Dodgers out doesn’t he?

  50. enchantedbeaver says:

Well, that’s probably the ballgame and I’ve got work to do, so I guess we’ll have to get them next time.

    Catch y’all later.

  51. trublu4ever says:

Come on panties, do your thing!

  52. vl4eccjr says:

Kennedy with a hit? That’s what they need now is some divine intervention to pull this out.

  53. crash24now says:

No damn intentional walk to Kemp if Ethier was batting in the 4-hole.

  54. trublu4ever says:

    Woo-Hoo….new ballgame!

  55. JhallWally says:

    WOW!!! WTG Dee!!!

  56. vl4eccjr says:

    Woo hoo! WTG DEE!!!
    Take that Tracy!

  57. crash24now says:

Nice hit Dee! Let’s go Jerry!

  58. nedisajerk says:

I don’t trust Wright to pitch 2 innings he has pitch well this season

    • crash24now says:

I agree – I shudder to think that Jamey Wright is our best pitching option in a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the ninth. Where are Lindblom and Jansen? Too tired?

  59. JhallWally says:

    Bummer!!!

  60. vl4eccjr says:

WTF Elbert?! You can’t throw a 90 mph ‘cookie’ right down the middle!! Even an old fart like Giambi can hurt you!!

  61. vl4eccjr says:

Losing 2 of 3 to the Rox really hurts. I despise that douchebag Jim Tracy! Not a good start to the road trip. Hopefully they can right the ship in Chi-town. . .

  62. oldbrooklynfan says:

Calling Marlins and Nats. Come to our rescue.

  63. nedisajerk says:

They should move the Rockies to the AL West and give us back the Astros. They were the orginal team with the Braves and Reds to make up the NL West back in those days.

  64. colliethec says:

Whats up everybody! It’s the dawning of a new day — let’s hope that the new day will be all that they discussed in the press conference. So nice for us to finally turn the page. Go Blue!!!

  65. trublu4ever says:

Dodgers in serious talks with Abreu.

    • sparkleplenty1 says:

I had a serious feeling that would happen.

      • trublu4ever says:

Can’t wait for Wally & Beav to hear this 😉

        • enchantedbeaver says:

I’m with Collie on this one – if its to replace Kennedy, Abreu can’t be any worse.

I just look at it as another nail in Ned’s coffin.

          • JhallWally says:

Ditto…. And Rivera isn’t getting it done either..

          • enchantedbeaver says:

Unfortunately other than Kemp, Dre and AJ, NO ONE is getting it done.

If they do sign Abreu it just goes to show that no matter who owns the team, nothings going to get better until Nedcompoop is gone.

  66. DodgerZona says:

Abreu? As long as he replaces Adam Kennedy

  67. DodgerZona says:

Per Jon Morosi…….Source: #Dodgers, Bobby Abreu nearing deal. @JonHeymanCBS reported serious talks earlier today.

  68. DodgerZona says:

Ok for the bench….Hopefully bye bye to Adam Kennedy

  69. colliethec says:

If it’s to replace Kennedy — I’m cool with that.

  70. trublu4ever says:

I also have the feeling tha Uribe will go on the DL (fine by me) and, as we saw today, our bench is practically non-existant.

  71. kahliforni says:

If they are really talking with Abreu…and Donnie’s apparent opinion of Loney…and the fact that Belisario has to stay on the big league roster once the 25-game suspension is up (very soon), I’m thinking a trade is in the works.

Honestly, Loney needs a fresh start somewhere else, and he and Belisario are the only tradable commodities another team might actually want. I believe their questionable character issues are a factor for the Dodgers. That, and performance.

A young, talented stick in left field would certainly look nice right about now. Abreu (if true) could platoon with Rivera at 1B for the short term.

  72. dodgereric says:

Hey kahli, nice to read you again!

I’m sick and tired of getting players who were good 5 years ago. Bring up Van Slyke and give him a shot. He may be righthanded, but his splits say he’s actually better against righties. C’mon, Magic. Get rid of Ned.

    • kahliforni says:

Eric, I’d like to see someone who could actually protect Kemp/Ethier. It wouldn’t be Van Slyke (too young) or Abreu (too old). It must come via a trade.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

The problem with a trade is, someone will pickpocket Ned of someone like Lee or Tolleson, and we’ll still be lucky if we end up with anyone better than Abreu.

        • kahliforni says:

That presupposes Ned would be anything but a figurehead…

          • JhallWally says:

I would venture to guess, that, at this juncture, Fecolletti does not have the final say on any deals, trades, or signings. Any transactions will have to go thru Kasten for approval.

          • enchantedbeaver says:

            Let’s hope so.

That then leads to the other problem – we have no one of value to trade.

          • JhallWally says:

That’s right Beav. We don’t have anything to trade except our young prospects. The way Kasten talked about renewing our farm system and developing our own talent, I can’t see him trading them away for a possible quick fix. Beside the fact that there really isn’t anyone available that will fix our problem areas. Which there are many. You have said it before and I agree with you, this team is a couple of years away from being a legitimate WS contender.

  73. thinkingblue16 says:

Omg it’s been awhile…miss you all. NEW DODGER ERA HAS BEGUN AND I AM LOVING IT!

  74. nellyjune says:

We definitely need somebody to protect Matt and Andre now, but I’m not sure who that should be at the moment.
    .
With the way the new ownership group was talking yesterday at the press conference (a great one by the way), I don’t think Ned is going to have total control over buying and selling players like he has in the past. However, the sooner they get rid of him the better. Hopefully they are listening to the fans on this issue as well.

  75. trublu4ever says:

The Gnats’ Panda out at least weeks…broken bone in hand. Boo-Hoo!

  76. trublu4ever says:

    McDooDoo designated!! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  77. DodgerZona says:

Beat me to it lol…..Come on Belisario…..Glad to see McDooDoo DFA

  78. crash24now says:

It’s about time for the DFA of McShit.

Next question – After all this, can Beli pitch worth a damn?

  79. nellyjune says:

Yankees Mariano Rivera is out for the season, if not forever, with a torn ACL in his right knee. His injury occurred after chasing a ball down in the outfield during batting practice. A Yankees fan or not, this is sad to see this iconic baseball figure possibly go out this way. Hopefully he can recover and finish out his career the way someone of his classiness should be able to.

  80. trublu4ever says:

I’m hearing the Abreu deal is done.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

Who goes? Not only would they need to make space on the 25-man, they’d need to drop someone off the 40-man unless they DL somebody for 60 days.

      • trublu4ever says:

Some are thinking Justin will go back to AAA. Not sure, however. I was hoping they’d let Kennedy go….Sellers can play positions to fill in, when needed. I’m going to check it out and see for sure who is going.

  81. crash24now says:

Check it out – Ethier is batting #4 against a Lefty!

    Gordon ss
    Ellis 2b
    Kemp cf
    Ethier rf
    Rivera lf
    Loney 1b
    Hairston 3b
    Ellis c
    Billz p

    • nellyjune says:

Would love to think that they actually listened to us 🙂
      .
Hoping that Billz brings the good Chad today!
      GO DODGERS!!

      • trublu4ever says:

He must have realized, after walking Matt, that James is no security behind him. Wish he woudn’t have waited to long to make this move.

        • trublu4ever says:

          I should have said Rivera!

          • crash24now says:

Rivera, James, it’s all the same. They both hit a dinger once in a blue moon.

Speaking of Loweenio, he’s back in the lineup against a lefty because of:
            (a) his prior success at Wrigley Field
            (b) he is the best option available, due to the crappy bench
            (c) Donnie is Looney-Tooney about Loney
            (d) all of the above
            (e) none of the above

          • sparkleplenty1 says:

Crash, you sound SO much like Beav!

          • crash24now says:

I’ll take that as a compliment. I’ve learned a lot from the Beav just by reading Inside and Outside the Dodgers.

Speaking of Inside the Dodgers, so far the new ownership has failed to revive that beast.

          • sparkleplenty1 says:

You read me correctly – it is definitely a compliment!

    • crash24now says:

Loweenio watch: OPS: Loweenio .648, Juanpy .721
