Saturday Night Fever

Stephen Strasburg takes to the mound tonight for the Nats promising to bring some heat to the Dodgers on a cool spring night. With the best ERA in the league, Washington pitching will continue to provide a challenge for the Dodgers, who besides Kemp and Ethier, have a poor hitting team.  Strasburg is 2-0 on the season with a 1.08 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Chad Billingsley will be pitching for the Dodgers this evening starting at 6:10 PM.  Chad’s last two outings were very good.  He only allowed one earned run in 14 and 1/3 innings (0.63 ERA) while striking out 15.

Tonight will be the major league debut of Bryce Harper, the phenom who already signed a 5-year contract worth $9.9 million.  Harper was selected by the Nationals with the first overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. He stands at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 225 lbs.  Harper won the 2010 Golden Spikes Award, awarded annually to the best amateur baseball player.  I don’t know if Stan Kasten had anything to do with Washington acquiring Strasburg and Harper during his tenure as the Nationals president, but if he did, I hope he can repeat that success with the Dodgers.

If you like pitching duels, this should be a good game.

Dodgers lineup:

  1. Gordon SS
  2. Gwynn LF
  3. Kemp CF
  4. Ethier RF
  5. Hairston 2B
  6. Loney 1B
  7. Uribe 3B
  8. AJ Ellis C
  9. Billingsley P

Good luck Dodgers.  You will probably need it tonight.  So will the Nationals.

Tonight is the first bobblehead night, featuring Don Drysdale and Maury Wills. The resellers are already gearing up. There are listings on eBay and other web sites charging up to $47.98 for the souvenir. You gotta love free enterprise.

They were starting to sell them 3 days ago….kind of ticks me off (only because they should wait until the event actually happens)…however, I did buy one of Kersh’s Cy Young replica…I do love ebay

      • 32and53fan says:

I wonder if the resellers have to obtain their supply from people who attended the game? I don’t know if the manufacturer made extras for the aftermarket. I hope not, it would lessen the value of the bobblehead for the people who had to buy a ticket to get one.

  2. koufax1963 says:

Im here. We got a game. that bobble is cool!

  3. 32and53fan says:

Nice play by Jerry! Looks like his spring training throwing problems are a thing of the past now that he has healed up.

  4. enchantedbeaver says:

Not expecting too much from our side in tonight’s game, hitting or pitching, so the aggravation factor will be low. Its the only way I can get through a Billz game.

Well, that and a lot of Cuervo.

  5. trublu4ever says:

Wow…Billz has to thank Hairston for that play!

  6. koufax1963 says:

Im on Milagros anejo, teh eh! Hairston delivered with that DP!

    • 32and53fan says:

Ah, caramel and coconut with chocolate, tobacco and banana notes, and a sweet, yet spicy finish. Just the bebida for a noche of beisbol.

  7. trublu4ever says:

Donnie is keeping Dee in the lead-off spot….is he noow having doubts? Who else could take over as #1?

  8. trublu4ever says:

Nice play, James…lousy throw Uribe! Almost cost us a run, you piece of crap!

  9. koufax1963 says:

Bills did well that inning, after the fluke strasburg double

  10. enchantedbeaver says:

    ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz as Kahli would say.

  11. vl4eccjr says:

    Sheeeit!!

  12. koufax1963 says:

unfortunately, if kemp and dre aren’t firing, this is what the dodgers have. not much, and that La roche HR may be the game.

  13. enchantedbeaver says:

Wasted a good start by Billz. He pitches much better with Ellis catching.

  14. enchantedbeaver says:

Doesn’t bode well for Mattingly’s Sunday throw away game.

  15. trublu4ever says:

    Damn…that’s the 2nd player he’s hit!

  16. trublu4ever says:

    A.J. Way to go!

  17. vl4eccjr says:

Well, that didn’t work for Andre! Great game so far though. I love pitchers duals……..most of the time, and that’s usually when they don’t involve my son. It’s heart pounding (literally) for us moms.

  19. vl4eccjr says:

Javy’s coming in. It’s pepto time!

  20. vl4eccjr says:

    Poof!
    Thar she blows!

  21. enchantedbeaver says:

Don’t know why Mattingly insists on finding out what we already know about Guerra. He’ll probably keep insisting until he blows another 5-6 games.

  22. sparkleplenty1 says:

This game has quickly fallen apart.

  23. enchantedbeaver says:

Might as well administer the last rights. I think I hear someone singing Danny Boy…

  24. vl4eccjr says:

Javy has never done well coming in with runners on.
No excuses. Javy still aint right.

  25. 32and53fan says:

Did anybody notice what happened in the stands at the moment of Bryce Harper’s first major league hit?

Thanks to Tony Jackson’s tweet for the heads up.

  26. trublu4ever says:

    Damn….the rally killer is up!

  27. vl4eccjr says:

    Signs of life?

  28. enchantedbeaver says:

    I suppose Kennedy’s on deck.

  29. enchantedbeaver says:

    Pathetic.

  30. 32and53fan says:

The mighty A.J. has struck out… on a 102 mph fast ball.
Loney caught at the plate on a little grounder to first.
It’s all up to Gordon now.

  31. trublu4ever says:

    Dee is looking like Juapy!

  32. vl4eccjr says:

    WOW!
    A gift!

  33. trublu4ever says:

YAY….the pitcher did it! … thanks for the rbi 😉

  35. 32and53fan says:

    Another gift.

  36. nellyjune says:

    WOW!!!!

  37. enchantedbeaver says:

One more wild pitch will do.

  38. trublu4ever says:

I guess our BP isn’t the only one who implodes!

  39. enchantedbeaver says:

If nothing else, at least they showed a little spunk tonight.

  40. vl4eccjr says:

Amazing & freaky turn of events. All previous Dodger hurlers are off the hook!
    CRAZY!!!

  41. nedisajerk says:

I wouldn’t be surprise if Guerra end up on the DL.

  42. trublu4ever says:

Damn…Tony sould have let that hit him!

  43. enchantedbeaver says:

    Crap!

  44. trublu4ever says:

    Oh, dear….it’s Wright!

  45. trublu4ever says:

    What does Matt say?

    Happy Birthday, Nelly!

  50. oldbrooklynfan says:

    KING KEMP!!!!!

  51. koufax1963 says:

    that was an amazing win!

  52. nellyjune says:

THAT was some finish to a game! I actually was hoping AJ would finish it, but Matt doing his thing was alright with me. Love this game of baseball. No time limits and it’s never over until the last out is made.
    DODGERS WIN!!
    LA KINGS WIN!!
    Both games were awesome!
….and Denny had a pretty good day on the racetrack as well.
Thanks again for all the birthday wishes! You are all amazing!
So, my sports day went very well indeed!

  53. grizzy says:

I’m going to vote for Ethier for the all star team, but I’m not sure about Kemp yet.

    • crash24now says:

Kemp will not need your vote to make the team, given his performance in the box score. But he definitely has been under-performing on the base paths and at times in the outfield. He is making some mental mistakes. I would think that Mattingly and Lopes are kicking his butt over these mistakes.

  54. crash24now says:

The Sunday Dodgers “B” team is going today, with Gwynn, Sellers, and Treanor in the starting lineup. How could FedEx possibly be worse than Treanor?…stay tuned.
