Two forward, one back

Juan Rivera tweaked his hammy but Mattingly does not think he will need to go on the DL. Scott Van Slyke will have to wait a little longer for his cup of coffee.

Matt Kemp missed a catch he usually makes and committed another couple of baserunning blunders. Most people don’t think he is regressing to his 2010 level but he might be a little overaggressive on the bases. Tim Wallich and Don Mattingly mentioned that they want aggressive baseball, but that with no one out, that is not the time to try to stretch an extra base. Kemp has made tremendous progress since 2010 but his body occasionally still works faster than his brain. Chalk it up to a few more lessons learned.

Dodgers lineup:
Gordon 6, M Ellis 4, Kemp 8, Ethier 9, Loney 3, Hairston 5, Gwynn 7, AJ Ellis 2, Lilly 1

YAY…Lilly made it though the 1st!

  2. trublu4ever says:

    These Braves’ announcers are dullsville!

  3. vl4eccjr says:

    Howdy tru!
You here all by your lonesome?

  4. trublu4ever says:

    Wow…nice catch Dee!

  5. vl4eccjr says:

    Shit! Fuggin Uggla!

  6. trublu4ever says:

  7. trublu4ever says:

    YAY…Dre! Let’s bring him home!

  8. enchantedbeaver says:

Mattingly’s doing the same damn thing with Loney that JoJo did with Martin. Evertime he starts swinging the bat well hit sits him out a game and then James has to start all over again.

    • trublu4ever says:

The Braves announcers just said he is not happy being platooned.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

I can understand that. Might be different if the guy he’s platooned for could actually hit to justify it.

        • trublu4ever says:

I know. And, that’s what he is probably thinking….not only that, no matter how shitty James is hitting, he is always a stud on defense!

  9. trublu4ever says:

Way to go! Nice work from the bottom of the order!

  10. enchantedbeaver says:

Sadly, I think Lilly is our #2 pitcher.

  11. trublu4ever says:

  12. vl4eccjr says:

    Woo hoo!
WTG MATT! First one to left this year!

  13. enchantedbeaver says:

    Its in the Hole!

  14. koufax1963 says:

I think Matty liked what he saw riveria do last night, bomb them!

  15. nedisajerk says:

Got to love the MVP chant.

  16. trublu4ever says:

    Great hustle from Dre!

  17. trublu4ever says:

Damn….Lilly is the man tonight! 7 strong innings.

  18. trublu4ever says:

    Uribe stinks!

  19. sparkleplenty1 says:

    Same old Yawn!

  20. vl4eccjr says:

Why pull Lilly with his low pitch count to PH Uribum?
WTF? Sometimes Donnie defies all logic!

  21. koufax1963 says:

somebody put a chicken hanging from the bleachers! Intentional?

  22. enchantedbeaver says:

I’d feel more comfortable with Jansen or Lindblom closing rather than Guerra.

  23. vl4eccjr says:

So much for some insurance runs.

  24. sparkleplenty1 says:

    Nail biting time.

  25. trublu4ever says:

    Shit! Scary as hell!

  26. vl4eccjr says:

    Ruh roh!

  27. vl4eccjr says:

    Thar she blows!

  28. sparkleplenty1 says:

    Aw sheeeit!

  29. 32and53fan says:

Its good to be lucky. Bloop hits look like hard line drives in the scorecard.

  30. koufax1963 says:

    I can’t repeat what I just said

  31. sparkleplenty1 says:

I sure hope Guerra isn’t turning into Broxton.

  32. enchantedbeaver says:

That’s 3 games Guerra has blown and if not for the triple play, four.
He’s not got the stuff to be a closer and never has.

    • enchantedbeaver says:

And of course, Donnie leaves him out there to give up more, not to mention he’s overworked as it is.

Pathetic. With decent managing, pitching and base running, they could’ve won all three.

      Well I’ve seen enough.

  33. vl4eccjr says:

Javy just aint been right his past few outings. He’s leaving the ball up in the zone & getting hammered.
This hurts losing the lead in the 9th again. It’s getting to be a habit.
    G’night all!

  34. koufax1963 says:

one of many holes in the line up, a closer

  35. sparkleplenty1 says:

Let’s hope that Donnie will now consider Jansen as the closer. I love Javy but he’s not getting the job done.

  36. koufax1963 says:

yea here we go, blogger managers, should of kept jansen for two innings, hindsight, 5 singles in a row, just crap, ah the grief

  37. 32and53fan says:

6 consecutive K’s… what a pathetic finish. 2nd series loss – both to good teams. Not feeling too groovy right now.

    • sparkleplenty1 says:

I know just what you’re saying. Let’s hope the Dodgers don’t get into a losing groove. Thankfully there’s a day off tomorrow.

  38. koufax1963 says:

Lilly should of had the leash to go out for the 8th: just 79 pitches, wow we had this one too. just fed it up. whos next?!,”wont get fooled again ” new song, or should it be a question to javy, “who are you?”

  39. It’s the same old story, It’s these damned east coast teams. They’re simply too hard to beat.

  40. nedisajerk says:

Wow what a series between the Caps/Bruins for the hockey fans with 7 games decided by 1 goal. I hope the Kings/Blues is a low scoring games since both of these teams were ranked #1 and #2 in defense.

  41. grizzy says:

Losing both series against the Braves and Brewers is not real encouraging, but we did not miss by much. A couple of more players. Well…maybe more than a couple.

  42. kahliforni says:

Hopefully, the tides of new ownership will soon sweep aside the annual Ned flotsam…hopefully, Ned, too. And with so much offensive failure from Gwynn, Kennedy, and Uribe, why the heck has Donnie buried Sellers in a shallow grave at the end of the bench? PLAY THE KID.

  43. 32and53fan says:

Chattanooga Lookouts starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi left Chattanooga today for Los Angeles, where he is expected to join the Dodgers in time for Friday night’s series opener against the visiting Washington Nationals.

The roster move likely will be made official Friday.

  44. kahliforni says:

When Guerra stayed in the game after being checked by a Dodgers trainer, no one was more relieved than McCann.

“Oh, man, I told a couple of guys he’s my new favorite player,” McCann said. “I mean, it didn’t even faze him. I hit it as hard as I possibly could, and I don’t think it even hit his glove. And for him to get up and pitch … I don’t think too many guys would want to mess with him.”

  45. koufax1963 says:

Maybe Eovaldi will be our future closer. I have doubts about Javy continuing his inconsistent ways: the good luck/bad luck situations he is in, need to have the punch out pitch with 2 strikes, I don’t see it!

    • sparkleplenty1 says:

A very sad loss. My brother and I met Moose in 1966 after my brother won a pitch, run and hit competition in Anaheim. The one thing we will always remember is that he told my brother to not grow up to be a dumb ballplayer; education was very important. My brother took that to heart and put his education first. Rest in peace, Moose.

  46. My condolences to the Skowron family, friends and love ones.

  47. trublu4ever says:

    Let’s go Dodgers!

  48. grizzy says:

Really sorry to hear of Bill Skowron’s passing. I got to meet him and see him play at old Wrigley Field in ’61. Great guy. I’ve still got the ball he and those other Yankees signed. He was a Dodger for just a little while, but he did a grat job for us too. It’s tough to see the old timers go.

  49. trublu4ever says:

Uribe couldn’t get his fat ass down to field the ball….what a useless piece of crap! Thanks alot Ned!

  50. trublu4ever says:

  51. trublu4ever says:

Dre should ALWAYS bat behind Matty….after all, they are the Dynamic Duo….and, he has proven he can hit leftys!

  52. 32and53fan says:

The only autographed ball I have is one I got in 1963. It is signed to me with best wishes from Don Drysdale, and has just signatures from Sandy Koufax, Maury Wills…. and Bill Skowron. Bill’s name is the best of the lot. I used the ball to play with once and tried to clean it. Koufax’s name was almost washed away and I re-inked it. The cover is abraded over Wills name and Drysdale has a big crack through his name. Skowron’s is the only one that survived almost intact.

    Bill Skowron autograph

    • JhallWally says:

      Very cool 32/53…

      • enchantedbeaver says:

        Very cool 32.

I had Don Sutton’s autograph on my first baseman’s mitt. I never stopped using it though and eventually it faded away. So did my first baseman’s mitt…

    • 32and53fan says:

The ball came from a supermarket where Drysdale was appearing and is poor quality. Definitely not a genuine National League baseball. It must be imitation leather, it is not a proper canvas for such illustrious signatures.
My mother thought Don was a football player.

  53. enchantedbeaver says:

Looks like an awful lot of people are dressed as empty seats again tonight.

    So what up?

  54. vl4eccjr says:

    Good evening all!
Nice to see they’ve given Kersh an early lead. I see Uribum made a boo boo. . .

  55. trublu4ever says:

The Dynamic Duo at it again!

  56. JhallWally says:

C’mon James, get that run in from 3rd…

  57. trublu4ever says:

    I’m in shock…Uribe, rbi!

  58. enchantedbeaver says:

Shocking. 16 RBI by mid-June is starting to become a reality.

  59. vl4eccjr says:

    WTF DEE?!!

    • enchantedbeaver says:

How many errors will he have before the end of the year? I say a minimum of 35.

      • vl4eccjr says:

He needs to pull his head out & get his shit in one bag. Those errors could have been costly with any other Dodger starter on the mound.

  60. trublu4ever says:

Dee must improve on his defense! Not acceptable…young or not!

    • trublu4ever says:

I know you all like him. But, except for being fast, I don’t see it yet! Has to get on base more….doesn’t take enough pitches. I’m sure he will get better but, right now, he is making Kersh have to work harder.

      • 32and53fan says:

Except for speed, like they say in Kershaw country, he’s all hat and no cattle. Maybe he needs less swagger and more humility.

    • JhallWally says:

Good grief!! WTG Kersh… That would have done Billz in.

  61. enchantedbeaver says:

Fortunately for Dee, Clayton can pick him up when he boots one.

  62. kahliforni says:

Don’t tell Ned the Los Angeles Angels of Orange County Anaheim Golden State Disneyland California released Abreu……….though, to be honest, he’s a better player than Kennedy or Uribe.

  63. enchantedbeaver says:

Wow, tough inning. Really making Detwiler work out there.

  64. trublu4ever says:

  65. vl4eccjr says:

  66. JhallWally says:

  67. enchantedbeaver says:

Anyone notice how the errors count has gone way up lately? I thought this was Ned’s “defense” team.

  68. enchantedbeaver says:

    I see Loney’s back in a groove…

  69. enchantedbeaver says:

Hope Kersh has enough in the tank to go 9 so we don’t have to turn it over to the arson squad. Matting will spend until August proving that Guerra can close.

    • JhallWally says:

And trying to prove that Kennedy can pinch hit… Dildon ain’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

      • enchantedbeaver says:

I’ve tried to cut Mattingly some slack thinking he at least knows what’s right, then he goes out and does the same stupid things over and over and over again.

  70. trublu4ever says:

Yuck…Jason Werth needs a flea dip!

  71. vl4eccjr says:

Coyotes squeaked out an OT win at home vs. the Predators 4 – 3 if anyone cares. There sure have been alot of OT games in this years NHL playoffs.

  72. trublu4ever says:

Lowenio is alive and well again!

  73. vl4eccjr says:

Sheeeit! Sure could have used that insurance run. . .

  74. JhallWally says:

  75. enchantedbeaver says:

I really hope that come next Tuesday Kasten walks into Ned’s office and says WTF? How could ANYONE look at this team and figure it could hit its way out of a wet paper bag? You’ve only got two guys on the whole team that can hit and drive in runs, and that’s assuming someone actually gets on, which when its Gordon and Ellis isn’t too often.

  76. crash24now says:

Looks like Javy lost his closer role.

    • trublu4ever says:

Not really…just giving him the night off. Making sure he’s okay after the hit he took. His knee the problem, not his face.

  77. sparkleplenty1 says:

Glad to see Kenley closing tonight.

  78. vl4eccjr says:

    OUCH! That’ll leave a mark!

  79. crash24now says:

    What does Kenley say?

    Stay off my plate!

  80. trublu4ever says:

    Ouch! Poor guy…..Kenley throws hard!

  81. enchantedbeaver says:

Can ANYONE close a game easily?

I want to see what Tolleson can do.

  82. vl4eccjr says:

    Woo hoo!
    K-J saves it!!!

  83. trublu4ever says:

    Woo-Hoo…a win!

  84. JhallWally says:

    Woo-Hoo, we win!!!

  85. enchantedbeaver says:

Billz better pull his head out tomorrow is all I can say.

  86. oldbrooklynfan says:

It’s sure good to get back to the win column.

  87. nellyjune says:

    Glad the Dodgers won tonight!!

  88. kahliforni says:

My new and improved batting order…

    M. Ellis
    AJ Ellis

Kemp and Ethier bat sooner…takes pressure off Gordon…once the order turns over, it’s the same line-up as now…except Uribe sits.

  89. trublu4ever says:

Happy Birthday NellyJune……have a wonderful day. Hope Andre hits a homerun tonight, just for you 🙂

    • nellyjune says:

Thank you!! He hit one last night, but hitting one against Strasburg would be great!! Hoping Billz brings the good Chad today!

  90. JhallWally says:

Happy Birthday Nelly. Hope you have a great day!!

  91. enchantedbeaver says:

    Happy Birthday Nells!

  92. sparkleplenty1 says:

Happy birthday, Nellyjune. Hope your day goes well, Andre gets a bunch of hits for you and the Dodgers win 🙂

    • nellyjune says:

Thanks Sparkleplenty – A team win would be great!! Love all the new energy the Nationals have, but it’s time for our boys to spoil their party.

  93. koufax1963 says:

Nellyjune, HBD! Hope you don’t have to watch the giants play, unless they lose! Hoping the MLB network covers the real game Strasburg/ Bills tonight.

    • nellyjune says:

Thanks!!! I will most likely be sharing time with the gnat game at some point, but like you said, as long as they are losing (to the Padres even) it’s all good.

  94. trublu4ever says:

Monday is the day McCrook will finally be gone…..a great day in DodgerTown!

  95. 32and53fan says:

    Happy Birthday Debra!
    Terrific cake Tru!
    Happy Birthday Nellyjune

  96. grizzy says:

    Happy Birthday, Nj!

  97. crash24now says:

Happy Birthday, Nelly! Hope you get a Dodgers win for a BD gift!

  98. lbirken says:

Happy Birthday, Nelly. I will be there tonight to see what could be a great game if Bills is in form. Not only is it a bobblehead night but in addition to Strasburg, the Nationals’ other young phenom-to-be, Bryce Harper, might be starting.

  99. trublu4ever says:

Please, please, please….bring your “A” game tonight, Billz….we really need it! Let’s go Dodgers!
