Getaway day in Houston

The Dodgers continue their amazing start today by trying to sweep the Astros.  Yesterday James Loney joined the party with a solo homer and raised his batting average to the Mendoza line.  Matt Kemp also homered to bring his total to 9 in 15 games.

For a little fun with numbers, I created a small spreadsheet that you can access at http://bit.ly/JjcQ70, that shines some light on Kemp’s performance so far.  The data came from the MLB statistics at http://atmlb.com/I5u9Y0.  Kemp’s 9 home runs and 22 RBIs project to a 162 game total of 97 and 238 respectively.  That will never happen but it is fun to plug in the numbers and look at the results.

I added Bill James’ runs created formula and got very interesting results.

Matt’s RC is 30.8 after 15 games. That is 2.054 runs created per game.
Andre Ethier has an RC of 12.2 and a RCG of 0.813 and Juan Rivera shows up at 5 and 0.359.

You can play with the spreadsheet online or download it to your computer using the File menu.

Clayton Kershaw fanned 9 and picked up his first victory to go along with his 1.61 ERA.

Go for the sweep!

I hope Dodgereric see this…he loves all the statistical stuff. Jhall & Enchanted too!
I’m looking forward to the sweep today….Billz will be lights out and, assuming Donnie plays the reguar guys, we will score enough runs to win……Go, Dodgers!

    Great stuff 32/53!!

  5. trublu4ever says:

Uh, oh…..Billz gave up a dinger!

  6. crash24now says:

    Loney gets no blame today.

    Today aint their day.
Even the Houston announcers said the Dodgers aren’t a good Sunday ball club. 😦

    • enchantedbeaver says:

That’s because Sunday’s usually when they play their scrubs.

Of course, that would be 3/4 the team thanks to Ned.

  8. crash24now says:

The 10-5 Braves are coming to town tomorrow. Then we’ll truly see the Dodgers capabilities.

  9. enchantedbeaver says:

I’d say Billz wasn’t exactly on today.

    Scrub rally fails.

  11. vl4eccjr says:

    Oh boy!
That big stinky steaming pile of McShit doesn’t help matters at all! 😦

  12. sparkleplenty1 says:

Should have had Loney pitch. I’m sure he’s much better than McDoo.

  13. crash24now says:

How fitting that Uribum kills the final futile try for a rally.

  14. sparkleplenty1 says:

And that’s the game. I HATE BEING SHUT OUT!

  15. vl4eccjr says:

Oh well! Two out of three aint bad.
I sure hope they get their shit in one bag on the home stand. With two competitive teams coming in, they need to shake this embarassing beating off, and get back to playing good ball.
    .
    .
Well, it’s time to switch over & watch Durant, Westbrook & company put a beat down on the Lakers.
    Later.

  16. JhallWally says:

Pheeeewwwww-eeeee… What a stinker. They shit themselves today…

Hats off and well done to Jamey Wright….

McDooDoo and Uribum need to go away permanately…

Surely we could have found better backup/bench players than Kennedy and Treanor… Geez…

You know its bad when they knock Tru out of the game…

Really was a microcosm of what this team is – Kemp, Dre & Kersh and that’s all. If Kemp & Dre don’t hit, the team falls flatter than a cow pie and is twice as stinky.

For what Rivera’s brought to the table, I’d much rather see what VanSlyke can or can’t do. Hell, Sands could at least be learning on the job if nothing else. And there’s no excuse to even have Treanor or Kennedy on the team. Neither should even be donning a ML uniform.

And for those few left out there that think Ned’s a passable GM, tell me, how could you look at the entire list of available back-up catchers during the offseason and come up with Treanor as being the best option? He certainly can’t hit. He can’t throw. And I’d venture to say that if one took the time to see when the pitching staff has struggled the most, it’d be when he was calling the game. And how in hell (or why for that matter) does he need to be around to “mentor” a 30 year old?

…and Uribe is starting to move up the list of Ned’s worst acquisitions. I think he’s just passed JP.

      • crash24now says:

Treanor also pretty much muffs the balls thrown in the dirt, too. He doesn’t know how to block them with his body. Too bad Fedex can’t hit – at least he’s got decent defensive skills.

That was one ugly game. Andre was inches away from being a hero and snagging the grandslam ball, but like Larry Bowa said that pitch was the doom of Billz before and it proved to still bite him in the behind today too. I managed to go back and forth between the race and the game until it became a 9-0 affair, then I switched to the race permanently. That worked out for me because Denny won – yeah!! Now, if the LA Kings can win, it will be make this game seem not so yucky. Maybe the home cooking will do them some good because they will need something better than today against the Braves and the Nationals.

I was spared this ugly lost as I spent the afternoon with my daughter at a diner in LIC during a rainy afternoon. It’s a lot easy to get your but kicked when your in first place, though.

  19. nedisajerk says:

    Come on Kings.

    • nedisajerk says:

      Yeah Stoll GWG in OT.

    • nellyjune says:

I was stuck watching the NBC Sports broadcasters so I turned it off after the first period because much like ESPN has a bias towards the east coast, they had a major bias towards the Canucks to the point it was sickening. So, I followed the game through Twitter and the Kings app on my phone until the game was over and then watched the highlights where they were forced to talk about the Kings. It’s the same with Fox and NASCAR. Denny isn’t even mentioned (pre-race or otherwise)until they are forced to talk about him and that’s because he actually won the damn race.

    • nellyjune says:

All that aside, it was an awesome game!! Glad they are moving on to the next round.

  20. enchantedbeaver says:

Cupaguano, Hanagatan and Lilly, Oh Shit.

I’ll consider it a victory if they even take a game in the Atlanta series.
