Oh just great GL Hoffmann. Is about time Ron Santo made it in the HOF.

  2. trublu4ever says:

The Dodgers are close to signing Harang…..another good name for our clever gang 😉

  3. I’m guessing that if the GM position opened up there would be no shortage of applicants – no experience necessary.

  4. lbirken says:

Classic Tommy Lasorda clip. He sure can brighten up my day no matter what.

  5. Hi Everybody
Are there any openings for team mascot?

  6. Would subservience or brown-nosiing go under skills or activites.

  7. trublu4ever says:

And, this just in…Dodgers are going to sign Jerry Hairston, Jr. WTF is Neddie doing?!

    • Jerry might very well end up being the starting 2nd basemen or 3rd basemen with Uribe possibly getting hurt early on. Good signing, always liked him. His contract is Ok. A little overpaid but still, 2 yrs $6 mil plus incentives. And then Harrang, pushing Eovaldi and De La Rosa out and probably meaning the end of Sellers or Ivan De Jesus Jr.

      • trublu4ever says:

How much does Uribe have left on his contract? I’d love to unload him and keep Sellers. He proved he can play any position they put him in.

        • I’d love to send Uribe to boot camp or the Marines, if even for the training part. Then some Taebo and P90X. If he’d just come into Spring Training 70lbs lighter, that, in itself would be a miracle. If we’d fire Bunnynuts, and hire someone who isn’t asleep by the 3rd inning, he could have a chance. Fix his swing and force him to stop eaten the sugar and sodas and pizzas..He has another year I believe after this season.

I’d love to see and IF of Loney, Hairson, Gordon and Sellers, with Uribe, De Jesus, Kennedy, and Ellis backup. Man, that’s like 6 fUTILITY PLAYERS there..lol..

          • nedisajerk says:

Why couldn’t they just sign Hairston over Kennedy? I like Ellis but wish he had a contract just like Hairston. Maybe Uribe would get traded.

          • As far as I know, Kennedy was the Dodgers idea of going in one direction, and Hairston was going in another. The difference is huge when you consider that Kennedy was to be the U/IF, and Ellis the starter. Now, there’s Sellers, Kennedy and Hairston, which would mean that Sellers will either be sent down or released or some combination there of. It boggles me why Ellis and Kennedy were signed when there was a Kelly Johnson available. Heck, Ellis is going to make more than Carroll, and both are at the twilight’s of their careers.

        • Dodgers, would have to eat his entire contract pretty much just to have someone try him on. And the team taking him would ask for a receipt and a 10 day money back guarantee or warantee. I would!

        • On another more important note, I guess that’s the last of kURODA as a Dodger. Unless they trade Lilly or Bills to the Reds for Yonder Alonso. They need a #2 and we don’t need another yr of a #3 Bills..

  8. lbirken says:

Not to defend Uribe but Sellers really has not proven anything. No one heard of him or knew anything about him before he came up to the big club last season. My guess is the Dodgers never projected him as a regular everyday player and so far has not changed anyone’s mind about that. He did make for a great story and I hope he does get a chance. Unfortunately for him, he plays for an organization that values experience over potential.

  9. I have never, nor will I ever, understand Ned Colletti’s actions! Today’s were just unbelievable. Will be SO glad to see him go when the new owner comes . . . .

  10. How long before they give up on Dee Gordon if he slumps – a month? a couple weeks?

With an opportunity to get younger, Ned’s gone out and gotten his oldest batch of scrubs yet.

    • lbirken says:

Let’s hope that does not happen. However, clearly the Dodgers are committed to Gordon with not much depth behind him so I would think he will get a lot of playing time no matter what.

  11. nedisajerk says:

I wanted him over Ellis and Kennedy in the first place. I still remember that guy hitting the GS against Guerrier.

  12. DodgerZona says:

I’ve noticed Ned is giving a lot of these jabrones 2 year deals. He must figure he won’t be a Dodger long so he saddling the team with dead weight. Nice parting gift, Ned. I’d get a jump on packing that office up if I were you.

I am stealing this from the guys over at TBLA, but it’s worth the steal for this group……

  14. Here’s tonight’s selection: Bing Crosby – It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE NED’S WORK

It’s beginning to look a lot like Ned’s work
    Bums around the horn
There’s Uribe at third, oh hell
    Ellis can’t hit as well
Loney’s lame and Gordon’s tame for sure

It’s beginning to look a lot like Ned’s work
    PVLs galore
But the happiest sight we’ll see
And how giddy we will be
    When Ned’s shown the door

A pair of Kennedy’s boots and a Hairston old coot
Ned can’t learn him when to say when
Capuano can’t pitch and Harang’s starts a bitch
Looks like third or lower again
And he’ll be late but I can’t wait til Beli saunters in

It’s beginning to look a lot like Ned’s work
    Last year’s team no more
    Didn’t think Miles was swell
Told Kuroda to go to hell
Barajas left, no Carroll to adore

It’s beginning to look a lot like Ned’s work
    Soon the bell will ring
And the scariest sights we’ll see
Are the horrors that will be
    At our own front door

    [Musical interlude]

It’s beginning to look a lot like Ned’s work
    Soon the bell will ring
And the scariest sights we’ll see
Are the horrors that will be
    At our own front door
Sure its Ned’s work once more

  15. trublu4ever says:

    Well, it’s official…Harang is a Dodger.

  16. Ned makes me think of those shoppers who buy food that is past its’ expiration date. He gets these over-ripe bananas and expects to make a great banana bread and all he gets is goop!

  17. Hi folks
Did you read that Colletti said that he hasn’t consisted trading Either “RIGHT NOW???
What do you think oft that statement?

    • selltheteam says:

I think he means that he would be willing to trade Ethier at the July 31 trade deadline.

    • Honestly, I wouldn’t sign Dre long term anyway because of his age, his moodiness and his inability to hit lefties. He’s going to command a $10-$15M a year figure anyway and you get that baggage above. Let some other team deal with it. I don’t really think he wants to stay anyway.

Best thing they can do is let him rehabilitate his stats up to the trade deadline, then send him to a contender for a couple top prospects or even fill a couple holes on the ML roster with better players than we have now (which isn’t hard to do.)

This club has glaring holes at 3B, C, 2B and starters, not to mention a totally depleted farm system for position players and if trading Andre can adequately address any of those needs, especially 3B & C, then THAT’S his greatest worth to the Dodgers.

      • I respectfully disagree with you on this one Enchanted. I think the Dodgers are a much better team with Ethier than without. I’m sure the knee injury was all that physically got in his way. I think his bad attitude stems from the fear of not being around much longer and I can’t blame him because of the way things were going. Maybe, if he’s not traded before hand, new ownership will shine a new light on him.

        • Well, I’ll let you slide THIS time Brooklyn. 😉 LOL!!

          • I read an article by Tony Jackson. For some reason, maybe he doesn’t like Ethier, I don’t know but he tries to convince people that Ethier wants to leave. Although Ethiers say in the the article that he wants to stay. TJ says he means he wants to go.
As crazy as it sounds TJ has succeeded in even convincing Colletti. I dread to say it but I think Andre’s days as a Dodger are numbered.

        • selltheteam says:

I hope you’re right, Joe. When Andre was healthy, he was simply a beast! I don’t think any of us will forget his 2009 year.

  18. messagebear says:

Don’t see how Andre is in Dodgers’ plans under the current regime.
Also don’t see how the ownership issue will be changed or resolved before we’re at least well into the season. Which only means that the team will be as much screwed up as it’s been screwed over by the Frank and Ned combo.

    • The way I see it, whoever buys the Dodgers is going to be overpaying in the first place by at least $200M, maybe $400M. There won’t be much if any parking lot revenue because of Frank’s extortion scheme. There’s probably at least $200M needed in upgrades to the stadium. And unless new ownership wants to take 2-3 years to slowly build a contending team, another $25-$30M in payroll upgrades just to the ML roster. Then we have all of Frank’s hidden costs of what may or may not be a part of the sale, which is unbeknownst to anyone now. That could be another $100-$200M. My biggest fear is that new ownership will quickly discover they’re in over their heads.

Reminds me of a company I worked for back in the 80s. It was profitable, but all of the equipment was more than outdated by industry standards. So when the owner decided to sell, he found a couple of rubes who didn’t know any better. Needless to say they were rather surpised once they took over, and of course the company quickly foundered.

  19. Now the $64,000 question. Is this current team better today than they started with in 2011? Not ended with in 2011, but started with. Remember they had Navarro, Thames, Gibbons and Cormier going in last year.

I’m curious as to your opinions.

    • trublu4ever says:

Of course they are better…until they take the field 😉

    • lbirken says:

Might want to wait until spring training ends so we know for sure who is on the 25 man roster but as of now, there are as many question marks as when the season began last April. Can Uribe stay healthy and at least hit his weight? Can Loney begin the season strong and stay consistent offensively? Is Dee Gordon the “real deal” and can he get on base often enough? Will Matt Kemp start strong and will the offense be good enough to compensate for teams pitching around Kemp? Can Bills become better than a 5 or 6 inning pitcher and can he become a stronger #2 to Kershaw? Will Kershaw continue to get even better (scary thought for the opposition)? Will the “PVL’s” as everyone likes to call them do as well as Carroll and Miles did last season? I am sure there are a lot more questions but these are enough for now.

    • selltheteam says:

Clayton Kershaw and pray for four days of rain.

  20. messagebear says:

The way the team has been run down, if the new owners get the team for ONLY a billion dollars, it’ll take them another half a billion to provide the needed improvements to the stadium plus replenishing the farm system with some decent prospects. That’s why my bid would be around $650 million – wouldn’t make Frank happy, but do I really care? What I’m afraid of is MLB approving another owner who may have that bid price available, but be lacking in all the additional needed capital. There will need to be what I would call a sizeable Frank Recovery Fund.

  21. trublu4ever says:

So sad…Juanpy seems to be out of a job 😉

You know enchanted…….I have to help my students sing this song, and now all I will think about is your version. Hopefully the giggles will go away before next Wednesday.
      .
Just a little personal baseball info. My son and 3 of his teammates have been invited to a workout with the Red Sox Saturday in Los Gatos (near San Jose for you non-Californians). Not sure what it all means, but he is definitely on the radar now. Plus, it sounds like University of Washington wants him to visit their campus. Also, he has signed a contract to play summer ball with the Statesville Owls in North Carolina as part of the Southern Collegiate League. He was originally supposed to play in Michigan in the Northwoods League, but coaching changes and NCAA rules have prevented that for some reason.

    • JhallWally says:

      Bravo again Beav!!! Well done!!!

  23. Ira Gershwin, Johnny Mercer and Sammy Cahn have got nothing on you. Another catchy tune that is right on!

  24. Nellyjune says:

Did you know the Dodgers are persuing catchers Bard and Headley? why?

  25. messagebear says:

Can anyone smell a rat, if Frank has the option of having the parking lots part of the sale deal or not?

  26. JhallWally says:

Well, as it stands now, this team going into 2012 looks very similar to the start of 2011. The only place I see the potential for the significant increase in WAR that we need to be contenders is once again Billz, Ethier, and Loney.

  27. 32and53fan says:

Watching Stan Kasten on the MLB Network Hot Stove show, it seems he is head and shoulders above Ned Colletti in his feel for how to run a baseball team. With Magic’s community and business acumen and Millenium’s money, this group looks pretty good.

  28. If the bottom third of this article isn’t thoroughly depressing, I don’t know what is:

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dodgers/2011/12/dodgers-reduced-to-being-jealous-of-the-marlins.html

  29. trublu4ever says:

Someone just mentioned (they heard it through Twittter) that Neddie wants to dump Uribe and go after Chase Headley.

  30. 32and53fan says:

Colletti is on the prowl to trade for another “has been” player.

Colletti also said, when asked if the player he is trying to acquire is an everyday player, “He has been.”

That would seem to suggest a veteran in the twilight of his career, a right-handed hitter and a guy who is more of a gap-to-gap, line-drive hitter than a power hitter. Colletti specifically said he wasn’t looking for a flyball hitter.

The player likely would be a corner outfielder who could fill in for right fielder Andre Ethier against certain left-handed pitchers. Ethier was abysmal against lefties in 2011, hitting .220 with one home run and 13 RBIs and a .258 on-base percentage. Against righties, the lefty-hitting Ethier hit .321 with 10 homers, 49 RBIs and a .368 OBP.

Colletti also said that if a deal were to be consummated, it might not be before the end of the winter meetings on Thursday.

    http://es.pn/rJLWwj

  31. trublu4ever says:

Buehrle to the Marlins…damn, they are spending like drunken sailors…we, on the other hand, have passed out!

  32. lbirken says:

The only “envy” I have of the Marlins is the fact they have been in and won a World Series in the past decade while the Dodgers have not. The Marlins are desperate to sell tickets. Trying to acquire top notch players is one thing but overpaying them is quite another. The real point of this article is the fact that the Dodgers (meaning Frank McCourt) have squandered enough money to have been a major player in the free agent market. We all know that. Still, I do not think paying Pujols $200 million makes good business sense.

  33. selltheteam says:

Marlins are out of the Pujols sweepstakes.

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dailypitch/post/2011/12/albert-pujols-marlins-cardinals-mystery-team/1

I’m guessing that they did not get outbid by Ned.

  34. nedisajerk says:

RIP Harry Morgan, Col. Potter on ‘M*A*S*H,’ Dies at 96

  35. trublu4ever says:

    Pujols an Angel….10 yrs…$250M

  36. messagebear says:

They’ll probably get their money’s worth for about five of those ten years; beyond that it’ll be a throw-away of over $100 million. Nice if you can afford it. This whole exorbitant pay situation in major sports is getting totally out of hand, but it’s not my money. I wouldn’t do it, because to me it doesn’t make good business sense, but then I probably wouldn’t have done Kemp’s contract either. I’m obviously not made to be a major league owner – it’s totally beside the fact that I couldn’t raise even a $100,000 bid for my all time beloved team.

    • 32and53fan says:

The exorbitant pay does come from us in the form of high parking fees, double digit prices for a hot dog and coke, and sky high ticket prices for anywhere but the sky high seats. Not to mention any team hats or clothing we may want to buy. I am priced out of the thought of taking my family to an MLB game now.
Pujols may be great, but does he have 50 times the skill level than a guy making $500,000? He might hit 50 times the home runs of such a guy but anybody who makes it to the MLB level has to be a pretty good athlete. It is just hard to imagine someone running 50 times faster or throwing 50 times harder.

  37. vl4eccjr says:

Scoscia must be licking his chops right now! On paper, the Halos should run away with the AL west. The Rangers will return to the old days of sucking hind tit!

  38. vl4eccjr says:

Looks like the Harang deal is done. I hope they realize his ERA is going to be higher now that he’s no longer pitching in PETCO. Still, I think he’s a much better pickup than Capu-GUANO. Yes! I caught that one earlier! LOL

  39. messagebear says:

One thing for sure – the Angels have now established themselves as the major market team in LA; suck on that, Frank.

  40. selltheteam says:

Lots of Dodger Blue are green with envy this morning… daydreams of what a lineup would look like with Kemp in the 3-hole and Pujols in the 4-hole. Oh, well. The priority right now is tar and feathering Frank ‘n Furter and riding them out of town on a rail.

  41. vl4eccjr says:

I’m thinking the rest of the NL central teams are breathing a sigh of relief now with Albert saying adios. I know most of the pitching staffs will sleep better now.

  42. grizzy says:

They over paid in a big way, still it will probably pay off. Butts in the seats, attracting other quality players, etc. Too bad it could not be us. Jaime and her f*****g houses.

    • vl4eccjr says:

The power of the ‘whiskerbiscuit’ can make most men lose all logic and the ability to reason. Face it guys! It’s the way we’re wired! LOL! Evidently Jaime had it working really good for a while with Frank.

  43. nedisajerk says:

lol poor Astros have to see him 18 times a years again.

  44. I’d like to see the Angels pick up Kuroda now. Might as well have one good team in SoCal.

  45. JhallWally says:

No guts, no glory!! Kudos to Moreno and his GM. Landing Pujols and Wilson. Wow!!

It could backfire, but it could pay off big time. The Pujols deal could end up being very overpriced for the last 3-4 years, but, considering the way salaries are increasing for even average players, it may not be that overpriced in 6-7 years. Plus they will probably be cashing in on a chase for the all time HR record at the tail end of the deal.

It basically comes down to them staying healthy and avoiding major injuries. Of course, that is always a big risk with any player.

Plus, what they overpay at the end of the contract they will probably recoup on the front end with increased attendance, increased season ticket sales, extra income from making the playoffs, and increased merchandise sales. Gotta figure they are gonna sell alot of Pujols jerseys and merchandise.

    • The chase for the HR record will be a sight to see as Pujols, Kemp and Fielder will all be getting up there in HR’s. Kemp will surely become the Dodgers all time HR hitter at least.

  46. koufax1963 says:

Now who would want an owner like Arte Moreno?

  47. JhallWally says:

If you think Nedcompoop hosed us for 2012, wait until 2013 when we are stuck with all his scrap heap signings from the last two off seasons. Not only will they be a year older but we will be paying double their 2012 salary for them.

    • selltheteam says:

      Here’s the latest example – Harang’s deal:

      2012: $3 million
      2013: $7 million
2014: $7-8 million vesting option, or $2 million buyout

    • I’m having nightmares just thinking about it. Sheesh!!!

    • There’s a bright side – things to look forward to in 2014:

      No Lilly
      No Uribe
      No Guerrier
      No Harang
      No Capuano
      No Billz
      No Ellis
      No Hairston

Might leave the new GM in a bit of a quandary though replacing 4 starters. Hopefully by then Lee, Rubby, and Eovaldi will be able to step in.

Nice though. 4 starters, 2B & 3B all need to be replaced the same off season. I sure hope potential bidders take that into consideration and keep the sale price well under $1B.

What Frank hasn’t screwed up, Ned has.

  48. Not so earth shattering news – Dana Eveland was traded to the Orioles for two under performing minor leaguers. Frank n Furter’s marks of mismanagement and stupid spending will mess this team up for a very long time.

  49. lbirken says:

So Prince Albert goes to the Angels. First of all, I object to all the references to Los Angeles. The Angels do not play in Los Angeles and not even in Los Angeles County. Obviously around 25 million a year is the benchmark for the upper echalon of MLB players. But 10 years for a 32 year old? I suppose it is true that the Angels probably hope to get maybe 5 good productive years. And I suppose some insurance company will get a fat premium for insurance against Albert not being physically able to complete the contract. And I agree it is true that Albert will help the Angeles sell tickets and other stuff that could go a long way toward the player’s salary. If the Albert helps the Angels win a championship or multiple championships, no one will care what it cost the team because it would have been worth it.

  50. selltheteam says:

Lakers get Paul, Angels get Pujols, Dodgers get Ned’s poo.

  51. trublu4ever says:

Back to the Dodgers…Neddie is still working on getting McDooDoo back…..a much needed reliever 😉

  52. Hi Folks,
Don’t fret, have patience everything will straighten out and we’ll all be happier, including Ned (woops), when new ownership arrives.

  53. messagebear says:

Can’t wait till Pujols catches up with the LA fast track lifestyle and gets cited for DUI for crashing his new Ferrari on I-5 in Orange County.

  54. grizzy says:

vl4eccjr-You are right, of course. Jaime is certainly no beauty and looks sort of scrawny, but she must have had something working for her. Let me think.

  55. 32and53fan says:

The Loney accident story is pretty bizarre. I wonder if we will find out why it happened. His agent claims it wasn’t alcohol or drugs that caused him to go unconscious. If that is true, it must be some medical issue. Why would he try to flee from the scene from the fast lane of the westbound 101 freeway at rush hour? That is one of the most congested stretches of freeway in the country at that time of day.
Colletti said he found out about the incident only because of an anonymous phone call into the Dodger offices. Stay tuned.

    • The CHPs most likely closed off all the lanes by the time Loney came to from his unconscious state but somebody’s lying here about the drug and alcohol test results the person close to him or the CHP’s Leland Tang.

      • 32and53fan says:

It is possible that they closed all the lanes but unlikely. Usually they leave a couple of lanes open when there is an accident. Only in the case of a major public hazard like a toxic spill or fire have I seen the entire freeway closed.

In any case, unless this turns out to be a medical problem like a TIA or a seizure, it has spoiled Loney’s squeaky clean public image. If it a medical problem, which is unlikely, that opens up a whole new issue for Loney.

  56. messagebear says:

Fox is appealing; Frank doesn’t want to give up his parking lot leverage – where are all the legal proceedings headed? MLB has essentially abdicated, because in the end Selig doesn’t have any guts or balls, and the other owners really don’t want to expose their established MLB rules and privileges to the court system.

It’s a long way from being over. In fact, the fat lady will be long dead from consumption, jumping into the fire, or having been stabbed by her jilted lover before the last song is sung on this Dodgers’ fiasco. 2014 Maybe?

    • selltheteam says:

Bear – Why must you let reality rain on our parade? I was hoping that Frank n Ned would be gone by Opening Day, or at least by July 31, 2012.

      Reality is such a bitch.

    • 32and53fan says:

“But after battling with the Dodgers over control of the ballclub and seeking to force McCourt to sell the team, MLB reached a settlement last month with the help of a court-appointed mediator.

The settlement calls for the sale of the team, the future media rights and Dodger Stadium, but not the parking lots and land surrounding the stadium, which are owned by a separate company that is controlled by McCourt and not involved in the bankruptcy. The settlement between the Dodgers and MLB gives McCourt sole discretion to sell the parking lots and land surrounding the stadium.”

If McCourt pulls this off and is allowed to keep the land and parking lots, he will go down in history as one of the most scheming and brilliant businessmen ever. How the MLB could allow his legal maneuver to split off the real estate from the rest of Dodger assets to stand is beyond me. I’m pretty sure that Frank had his eye on the potential of developing all of that land and figured it was worth more than the baseball operations.

I am still amazed that the city and county of Los Angeles allowed Walter O’Malley to trade 12 acres and Wrigley Field in south-central LA for over 300 acres next to the downtown civic center without putting some type of restriction on its use. Not to mention the millions of taxpayer dollars used to build the roads to access Chavez Ravine.

If McCourt is allowed to keep the real estate, he will eventually build a billion dollar commercial and high end, high density residential development, all with multimillion dollar views of downtown Los Angeles on half of the Dodger’s parking lot.

      • UGGGH! Freakne Frank. If it’s under Frank’s name shouldn’t it be listed under the bankruptcy?

This will force for a Dodger Stadium relocation. Or for fans to band parking there. Trolley Time! They should invest in more Trolley’s and we can park somewhere else.

Also the beating of the Giants fan happened in the parking lot…should MLB find a way for the law suit to go back to Frank….

      • Back in the day I’m sure the city never even conceived of anyone like Frank coming along and doing what he’s done.

      • 32and53fan says:

Dodger Stadium looks like a spermatozoon a green field on LA City’s future land use map.
The stadium is zoned A1_1XL — agricultural – and that means the ag land owners may build one family dwellings, parks, golf courses, farms, apiaries, and places for horses and goats but may not have more than five swine. The Dodgers have a Conditional Use Permit to operate the stadium in agricultural land.

Frank McCourt split ownership of the stadium land and the ball club into two separate companies. Dodgers vice chairman Steve Soboroff, who shepherded a major retail and residential development at Playa Vista, said the Dodger Stadium property might best be used for residences around the perimeter. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0508-dodgers-mccourt-sale-20110508,0,6837676,full.story

  57. According to the police report, Loney was “restless, unsteady, aggressive and irritable.”

In other words, like the rest of us Dodger fans.

    • I’m just wondering if the Cop gave him a hard time, why would Loney act like that? He wasn’t under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. He must of been under Frank’s influence….

      • It now seems to me like he was trying to get somewhere or running away from something. Obviously regardless of the cause he was acting irrationally and we’ll read a lot more about this.

      • 32and53fan says:

If Loney had a syncope (fainting spell) without a known cause such as drugs or alcohol, the hospital is required to submit a report to DMV and he could lose his privilege to drive. Then his insurance will be raised for at least three years because he is now a much higher risk.

It will be interesting to see if this happens to him although it might not be reported to the general public.

        • oldbrooklynfan says:

If he did have a fainting spell I think it’s best that it seriously gets looked into. It’s strange that it never occurred before, if he did have one. At least, to my knowledge, it’s never been reported. I just hope everything works out and most of all doesn’t interfere with him on the field.

  58. Hello all,
I hope everyone is having a good time. I can’t wait for the season to start…..LET’S GO BLUE

  59. I was just reading all the comments posted above. I’m not green with envy and not mad at the fact that Pujols signed with the Angels. Yes I would of loved for him to be in Dodger blue…but we got KEMP (almost MVP and will be MVP soon). Now the freeway series will be about KEMP VS. PUJOLS….we are bringing the excitement WEST COAST… fo’get about the Red Soxs vs Yankees rivalry…. 2012 will be about the Dodgers vs Angels. Now I need for Andre Ethier to step it up @ bat….and he will!

  60. nellyjune says:

Frank is such an Asshole!!! He shows us more and more he was never……ever doing what was best for the team….ever!

  61. lbirken says:

I also fear that it will be a long time before we are rid of everything McCourt. MLB enabled him and now MLB can’t easily get rid of him. He seems to love courtrooms more than baseball fields. His stench will be with us long after he is gone.

  62. messagebear says:

Seems to me that Frank really got the best of Bud all along – first by using money that he didn’t have, second by getting the settlement with MLB to go his way. At this point I have a hard time deciding who’s the bigger asshole. There’s no decision needed as to who has to put up with all the shit – only the fans.

  63. so Angels get a 20 yr $3 billion dollar tv rights deal done w/ FOX..The same one we could of had had McCourt not wanted to use that money to pay off his debt and syphon it away from the team. Judge Gross conceeded that Dodgers TV rights can be sold off with the team, much to FOX’s objection. Is everything Dodger related so negative nowadays. Angels, Kings, Lakers, Galaxy etc are all making good headlines while Dodgers are making errlines…
    ughh..

    long winter indeed

  64. grizzy says:

I agree in that McCourt put the screws to the Dodgers/fan base and MLB let him. And may continue to let him for a loooooong time.

Ryan Braun fails PED test & faces 50 game suspension!

  66. nedisajerk says:

    Wow that was a shock.

  67. vl4eccjr says:

What a HUGE crock of shit! With this PED positive piss quiz by Braun, its feeling like a wound being reopened, then having some salt being rubbed to heighten the discomfort!!!
I wonder what Matt has to say about this? With Braun & him supposedly being friends, I have to wonder. Somehow I don’t think Matt would want to win the award by default.

  68. Does anyone here know the particulars of how they test, i.e., is there a percentage of the substance measured, kind of like measuring alcohol, or is it just that it’s there or not?

  69. JhallWally says:

F*ck that bug-eyed self centered piece of sh*t. Did you hear his comment about why he would never do PEDs?

He said that he would not do PEDs because he would hit 60-70 HRs. Give me a freakin’ break. He’s got an ego bigger than Fielders ass. The juice is causing him to lose touch with reality.

Take a seat for 50 games cheater and lets see what you do without the juice and Fielder.

  70. trublu4ever says:

That bug-eyed P.O.S. shall now be known as Beetlejuice 🙂

    • vl4eccjr says:

I like it! It surely fits! 🙂

      • oldbrooklynfan says:

        Hi ya doin’ everybody.
This was quite a shocker about Braun, We’re having more shocking news this offseason than anything else. No doubt they won’t strip him of the award but I think it’s time for baseball to take a stand.
I think any player who uses PEDs at this day and age with all the testing that’s being done along with the suspensions should have his head examined to take a chance of getting away with it and not getting caught.
It’s time for baseball to say that the next time it happens the player will be stripped of any type of award that he’s won.

  71. JhallWally says:

I hope the Dodgers resign Gwynn Jr.

    • I would as well but where would he play. This team already has alot of IF and a bunch of OF, so someone is gonna be odd man out. If you throw in Kennedy, then there’s almost no other roster spots for him. Even Sands is getting bounced. Ditto for DeJesus Jr. and maybe even Sellers not making the roster.

      • vl4eccjr says:

It’s just Ned being Ned. The younger players will never get a fair chance. Jr. may not have that great of a bat, but he worked hard & did improve offensively. We all know how great he is on defense. He’s a keeper. I guess we’re all in “Ned mode.” Hoping for the best, while expecting the worst. . .

      • JhallWally says:

Well, you’ve got to carry 5 outfielders. With Rivera, Kemp, and Ethier starting, we can carry Sands and Gwynn.. Our big glut is utility infielders. I look for Sellers to be the odd man out until Uribe and/or MEllis goes on the DL. At least, that’s the way I would play it.

  72. Nellyjune says:

I think there needs to be some policy in place that if you are being considered for an award at the end of the season, you are automatically tested. Such bull crap!! And I liked Braun. So, it really makes me think nobody is above suspicion now.

  73. trublu4ever says:

Tony Gwynn Jr. has been signed to a 2-year deal.

  74. trublu4ever says:

and, Saito signed with the Dbacks. Cant wait for Matty to hit some bombs off him!

  75. Kuo was non-tendered. I really liked him, but perhaps this is for the best. Those yips are tough to get over. For that matter, so are multiple elbow surgeries. But I do wish him well in his future endeavors.

    • I think so sparks. Can’t really justify giving him a raise from the 2-something mil he was making when he carries the baggage and injury record he does.

Really surprised they signed Gwynn to a 2-year contract as cheaply as they did. He’s a sound OFer and a good fill in when someone needs a rest. He and Kemp are the only 2 smart things Ned’s done all winter. I could’ve even seen signing Crappy OR Harang IF it was done in conjunction with signing Kuroda, but not without.

Not seeing anyone in the division though that’s all that wonderful, so as dubious as the roster is, I think they have a shot at the division.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

      Hi Everybody
Yes Sparkleplenty there ‘s no surprise here but I wouldn’t mind if they gave Kuo an invite to ST just to see if there’s anything left or maybe just for old time sake.

  76. Am I the only one that gets the feeling that when Frank negotiates his mega deal with FOX or Warner that he’ll renege on his agreement with MLB to sell the team? Honest to God, I think that’s his end game on this.

    • trublu4ever says:

      NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • JhallWally says:

I don’t think that is his plan. His goal/plan the way I see it is to unload the crummy cash strapped team and old stadium in need of a major repair and facelift and keep the land and parking lots.
Which, in the long run are probably a more valuable assett than the team, stadium, and TV rights.
He is not selling the TV rights, they are just being marketed to put a number on their value. The new owners are not obligated to accept the offer. JMO….

Although, with Frank, nothing is out of the realm of possibility. His treachery truely knows no bounds.

      • You’re probably right. Still though, I don’t think he’s played all his cards yet, including the ones up his sleeve.

If I were a prospective buyer, I wouldn’t buy the team without the land and parking lots. Those should be in the sale and not the TV rights. Any schmuck would be able to negotiate his own huge TV deal.

        • JhallWally says:

I totally agree with you. Any prospective buyer and MLB should definately keep a sharp eye on Frank and don’t underestimate his potential for treachery.
I too hope the potential buyers call him on this maneuver and don’t overpay for the franchise without the land and parking lots.
I wouldn’t pay the $1B plus without them. These are supposed to be smart business people doing the bidding. Gonna be interesting to see how they assess it when they see all the numbers.

          • I’m hoping none exceed $800M. Gotta figure the stadium itself needs at least $250M, maybe up to $400M in upgrades and repairs.

That’s the other thing that worries me – hidden costs of things they didn’t know about going in. Honestly, whether they get the parking lots and land or not, the prospective buyer better be budgeting closer to $2B.

          • JhallWally says:

Yep. I think Frank is happy to unload the pieces (stadium and crummy team) that are going to require a huge influx of money to bring up to standards/respectability and keep what I see as the most valuable assett of the franchise (land/parking lots) which don’t need immediate financial attention.

    • I wouldn’t put it past him

  77. lbirken says:

Folks, I am not sure what happens if the Dodgers are not sold by the end of April but now I am wondering if Frank did not have a plan all along. His MO is to wear down his opposition. We know has no qualms about going to court to fight his battles and he seems to have no regard for the cost to do so. One would think that no reasonable person or entity would purchase the Dodgers for top dollar without getting everything; the land, the stadium, the parking, etc. I am sure Frank knows this. However, would someone or some entity overpay to get all the parts? I think this is Frank’s strategy and I think it might work.

    • JhallWally says:

The franchise with the land and parking lots included will certainly sell for $1B plus. Without them, I guess we will see….

I hope the bidders are wise and force Frank to include the land and parking lots.

      • lbirken says:

It would be interesting to see if Frank actually gets away with excluding the parking lot and land and if any person or group would even bid without those things. I still believe the deal will evetually include everything but I also believe Frank is shrewd enough to extract top dollar and walk away with money in his pocket, even after he pays off Jamie. This guy just finds a way to get people to pay to be rid of him. Heck, I might even pony up a few bucks myself if I thought it would help.

        • JhallWally says:

Unfortunately, Frank is going to come out of this alright and very rich either way. I would just prefer that he is rich and completely gone as opposed to rich and still connected to the franchise in any way.

      • selltheteam says:

It’s gonna be hard to fill the stadium without a parking lot nearby. Frank will charge $50 per car just out of spite.

  78. JhallWally says:

If Frank does manage to keep the parking lots, he is required to sign a long term lease of them to the new owners. The new owners are therefore going to have to pay Frank up front for the use of the lots for some set amount of money. Hence, boycotting the parking lots will not effect Franks cash flow going forward. And, the future price of parking will be determined by how much the new owners will have to pay each year to lease the lots. Really sucks!!!!

  79. JhallWally says:

I hope the city and county officials and zoning commission make Franks life a living hell if he keeps the land.

    • trublu4ever says:

If, and, when the snail leaves….I don’t want any trace of his slime trail left behind. I have confidence the powers that be will make him relinquish everything.

  80. Enough of that bastard, let’s look to future problems: the Big Boy table Frank won’t be allowed to sit at…

Two NBA personalities have reared their heads into the battle. One, Marc Cuban, has been discussed before a Dodgers sale was even a reality. The other, Magic Johnson (with ATL’s 90’s architect AND a Guggenheim to boot) is beloved by the city of Los Angeles.

The two have different approaches, and one of the approaches scares me a little.

First, you have Magic, who had this to say about how he would approach owning the Dodgers:

    —————————–

In searching for the right fit for his Dodgers dreams, Johnson researched six prospective bidders, then interviewed each of them, beginning each session with one question.

“I asked them, ‘What is your play here; do you want this team for the baseball or the real estate?'” Johnson said. “I wasn’t interested in anybody who wasn’t going to make baseball the priority.”

If they answered the first question correctly, Johnson asked a second question.

“I would then ask them, ‘OK, once you buy it, do you have enough money to turn them into champions?'” he said. “There are groups that will spend everything just to buy the team, and I didn’t want that.”

    […]

“I wish we had the team already, I would have been at Albert Pujols’ house at 12:01 a.m. on the first day of free agency,” Johnson said with a laugh. “I can’t wait.”

    ———————————-

Then you have Marc Cuban. I know nothing about how he’d approach owning a baseball team, but here’s how he approaches NBA issues: Agreeing with Commissioner Stern’s meddling with the New Orleans Hornets getting something for Chris Paul before he leaves for greener pastures next season:

    ————————————

“The message is we went through this lockout for a reason,” Cuban said Friday on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM’s Ben and Skin Show. “Again, I’m not speaking for Stern. He’s not telling me his thought process. I’m just telling you my perspective, having gone through all this. There’s a reason that we went through this lockout, and one of the reasons is to give small-market teams the ability to keep their stars and the ability to compete.”

“We just had a lockout, and one of the goals of the lockout was to say that small-market teams now have a chance to keep their players, and the rules were designed to give them that opportunity,” Cuban said. “So to all of a sudden have a league-owned team trade their best player, particularly after having gone out and sold a ton of tickets in that market, that’s not the kind of signal you want to send.”

    ———————–

Hmmm… don’t know if I want Cuban as an owner of the Dodgers. Arguing for small-market rights won’t win you any fans IN LOS ANGELES, in a league where to win championships, you better get talent from where you can get it, since the small market owners have no qualms about pocketing their Luxury Tax checks from large-market teams that have to spend astronomical sums on their rosters just to appease their fanbase.

Magic takes Dr. Buss as a mentor, Ross Newhan even warning Magic that he shouldn’t speak of his “spend-what-it-takes-to-get-who-it-takes-to-win-a-championship” plans too loudly, as he has to win over 29 MLB owners before winning over Dodger Fans (who, if they weren’t won over when they heard Magic, were won over when they heard Guggenheim. My first words after reading of the Guggenheim involvement: “Da-da?” ).

I understand the two were talking about two different sports, but having an owner who balks at the thought of terrorizing defenseless small markets does not interest me. Not in this sport, not for this team.

And neither the NBA commish nor the small-market owners holding up Paul’s trade seem to give a shit that, if New Orleans doesn’t get something for him now, they’ll get nothing for him at the end of the year. How does that help the fanbase?

  81. Nellyjune says:

Enchanted – Where is all the snow up there in your mountains?!
    .
BTW – Frank is an asshole!! Can’t wait to have a new owner!

  82. DodgerZona says:

This story make’s me wonder folks

    • Nellyjune says:

Those of us that have been following this team with a magnifying glass these past few years realize that there is nothing out of the realm of possibilities when it comes to Frank McCourt. Nothing at all, and that is a truly sad.

  83. trublu4ever says:

I’ve been hearing, for the past few days, that Neddie is interested in Coco Crisp. My first thought was, why, and, then it hit me…he’s trying to give us plenty of comedy material for next season.

  84. oldbrooklynfan says:

I think I’ll wait to see how this all comes out in the wash next season. If this strategy backfires I’ll jump on the bandwagon against Colletti.

  85. lbirken says:

I am no lawyer and am not typically a conspiracy theory person but the MSTI article did suggest the concept that no matter what happens, Frank will not make things easy for anyone. It would not surprise me at all if Frank did have a plan to try to keep the Dodgers in whole or in part. It seems a good day for Frank is another lawsuit. One would think most smart business people try to stay out of court but not Frank. And it would not surprise me if he is working with FOX although FOX stockholders might not like the expenses the company is running up in fighting McCourt. The key piece of information is perspective bidders have not seen “the book” and until they do, they cannot prepare and submit bids. This mess keeps getting bigger and bigger.

    • oldbrooklynfan says:

No matter how much we hate McCourt, I have to admire him and I wouldn’t put it past him that he’s still trying to hold on to the team. And you never know with this guy.

  86. Nellyjune says:

I got a gift today, and it was lotion. The lotion was called “Be Enchanted.” I couldn’t help but chuckle and think, “If I put this lotion on, it will turn me into a bombastic, clever, song-writing Dodger fan who tells it like it is.”
    .
    Coco Crisp……really? Blah!! Jer-ry!!! Jer-ry!!!

No jail time for the biggest cheater in baseball history (amongst the players).

We can only hope for jail time for the biggest crook amongst owners. The only question is – who is the bigger crook – Frank or Bud?

        • JhallWally says:

Well, Barroid the pumpkin head Jackass-O-Lantern skated on the justice system. Not surprising. His true punishment will be not making it into the HOF and being shunned by his former team and baseball. Baseball wants nothing to do with him and he will be kept on the outside looking in. No WS championships and all his records are tainted and qualified with the mention of steroids. Over time, this indirect negative sanctioning will weigh on him more than spending time in a resort prison.

Plus, doing steroids for all those years may come back to haunt him with health problems down the road that he would not have experienced had he stayed off the juice.

Just like McCockroach, he needs to be banished and just forgotten about.

          • JhallWally says:

As for the bigger criminal, Frank or Bud. Definately Frank. Bud is not a criminal in my opinion. He is a baffoon.
Frank on the other hand is an amoral miscreant that has acted with malice and premeditation.
And while we’re on the subject, Ned is just Franks inept ass-clown.
Baseball will be much better off when they are all distant memories.

  88. oldbrooklynfan says:

No doubt we’ll eventually have a change of ownership but there’s no guarantee that that means a change of management. I think that all depends on the new ownership. If the ownership feels the same way as most fans do about Colletti, than there’s a possibility that they’ll get rid of him.

  89. Congratulations to Matt for being awarded the GIBBY for 2011. This guy walked off with everything but the MVP. Makes us proud to be Dodgers fans 🙂

  90. Nellyjune says:

Congrats to Matt Kemvp!! I was glad to see Matt and Gibson get those Gibbys. It seemed the NL West and AL West were not mentioned too much in that broadcast.

What the heck the Reds didn’t want Chad? That look like a great package for the Padres but they did lose Latos. That would’ve fit our catcher and 1st baseman need.

    • I can’t find any info on Chad to the Reds deal. Where’d you get your info, Shad? Must say it sounds intriguing.

    • nedisajerk says:

I didn’t said it was a rumor but most people think Chad need a change of scenery and the Reds would’ve been the prefect fit for him since he grew up in Ohio.

      • oldbrooklynfan says:

Chad had his ups and downs the last two years but if there hasn’t been any effort to move him I’d say they haven’t given up on him just yet. Also we already have a catcher, Give AJ a chance to prove himself, maybe being in the lineup every day as the starting catcher may be what he needs. Loney showed signs of coming around in the 2nd half last season and besides there’s no big 1st baseman but Fielder available right now and I don’t think he’s within reach. Things’ll probably change, to your liking, with new ownership.

    • Frank’s dreaming if he thinks he can get $1.5B. With the shape the team and stadium are in, sans the parking lots and land, he’ll be lucky to reach $1B. I’m hoping no one bids more than $800M.

  96. selltheteam says:

Ned signs another PVL, John Grabow, for no apparent reason, other than:

Robs the team, runs it into the ground and still may make $14 mil a year from some other entity that probably was originally part of the Dodgers. I’m guessing that must be the parking lots. Frank McCourt will probably be a case study in the business schools. In a way, you have to admire his ability to buy the team with little money and strip it into pieces so he could sell the team and maybe be allowed to keep the land and rent from the parking lot. He is a true 1%er.
