November

The leaves are fading and falling;
The winds are rough and wild;
The birds have ceased their calling–
But let me tell you, my child,

Though day by day, as it closes,
Doth darker and colder grow,
The roots of the bright red roses
Will keep alive in the snow.

And when the winter is over,
The boughs will get new leaves,
The quail come back to the clover,
And the swallow back to the eaves.

The robin will wear on his bosom
A vest that is bright and new,
And the loveliest wayside blossom
Will shine with the sun and dew.

The leaves today are whirling;
The brooks are all dry and dumb–
But let me tell you, my darling,
The spring will be sure to come.

There must be rough, cold weather,
And winds and rains so wild;
Not all good things together
Come to us here, my child.

So, when some dear joy loses
Its beauteous summer glow,
Think how the roots of the roses
Are kept alive in the snow.

Alice Cary

Although this is the first day of November, we Dodger fans have endured metaphorically the bleakness of November ever since news of Frank and Jamie McCourt’s plundering of the team for their own luxurious lifestyle hit the fan.  We have seen our beloved team, once at the pinnacle of of Major League Baseball, fall into mediocrity and become a laughing stock in the baseball community.

Hopelessness and despair have been our constant companions as we read about the continuous flow of litigation and business manuevers initiated by Frank McCourt and his legal henchmen as they tore apart the organization so lovingly crafted  by men such as Branch Rickey, Walter O’Malley, Buzzie Bavasi and Al Campanis.

The news that McCourt may have finally realized that he is in a no win situation given that about 99% of Dodger fans want him gone and is seriously thinking about selling the team has brought the first ray of sunlight after a dark and tumultuous storm.  While he has been a poor steward of the Dodgers, the team itself has too much history and been too big a part of Americana to shrivel up and die.

The roots of the roses are alive in the snow
Awaiting a new owner to restore the Dodgers beauteous summer glow.

    Good Morning,

I sure hope it’s true…We all have waited and waited for this day….Goodbye Frank and hopefully Ned’s not far behind

    Have a good day all

I’ll believe it when it happens. Then I will rejoice.

The ideal outcome would be a sale that resulted in Frank and Jamie coming out with ZILTCH after what they’ve done with our franchise. Why would anyone go as high as $1 billion for the team when the stadium and the whole system has been run into the ground for years. Besides paying Frank, who’s only going to pass $130 million in settlement to Jamie, how much will a new owner have to invest in addition to bring the Dodgers up to a major market deserving level? Both Frank and Jamie deserve to come out BROKE only to have the taxing authorities put a lien on the rest of their lives. If Frank has any remaining control of the terms of sale, he’ll never agree to go away with nothing, so I’m not holding my breath waiting for that Frank/ MLB settlement.

  5. It’s interesting to see what will the actual selling price be. No doubt that Frank is hell bent on breaking even and then making off with a nice lump for himself, so its feasible that Frank’s told Selig, if they sell for $1 billion but you said $1.5, then you owe me .5 mil. Selig better gladfully pay because he’ll get that money back when it comes time for the new owner to negotiate a TV rights contract with due dilligence. Plus any other revenues will help bring many buyers.

I’m giddy with excitement of finally having McCrook out, if what this story claims is true.

  6. I think one thing you can count on even if the story is true, is that Frank will drag out negotiations to extort every cent he can get for the 27 companies that are the Dodgers. He’ll hang a sale up for the stadium or the parking lot or the brand name or ticket sales until he gets more than what he should for that element, just to be rid of him.

    • 32and53fan says:

If McCourt had an ounce of decency in him, he would let the guy who put “Los Doyers” on tee-shirts sell them again instead instead of claiming that the Dodgers deserve to trademark that name.

  7. nellyjune says:

I think Frank will do whatever gets him the most cash in his pocket. If cared at all about this team, he would have sold it a very long time ago.

  8. 32and53fan says:

Scene from “Being There” with Peter Sellers:

President “Bobby”: Mr. Gardner, do you agree with Ben, or do you think that we can stimulate growth through temporary incentives?
    [Long pause]
Chance the Gardener: As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden.
    President “Bobby”: In the garden.
Chance the Gardener: Yes. In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again.
    President “Bobby”: Spring and summer.
    Chance the Gardener: Yes.
President “Bobby”: Then fall and winter.
    Chance the Gardener: Yes.
Benjamin Rand: I think what our insightful young friend is saying is that we welcome the inevitable seasons of nature, but we’re upset by the seasons of our economy.
Chance the Gardener: Yes! There will be growth in the spring!
    Benjamin Rand: Hmm!
    Chance the Gardener: Hmm!
President “Bobby”: Hm. Well, Mr. Gardner, I must admit that is one of the most refreshing and optimistic statements I’ve heard in a very, very long time.
    [Benjamin Rand applauds]
President “Bobby”: I admire your good, solid sense. That’s precisely what we lack on Capitol Hill.

If the Dodgers can survive without McCourt severing the roots, all will be well in the garden once he is gone.

Hello Outsiders. Hope you are all doing well. One heck of a story to wake up to today.

Very hard to get too excited about this latest McCockroach news. I hope it is true and he has finally wised up and decided to sell. Don’t kid yourself Dodger peeps, he won’t be doing it because it is the right thing to do. Only because it is the most financially rewarding thing for him to do. He is true scum and that won’t change. This could be just another stall tactic and attempt at selling season tickets.

I believe we will eventually be rid of McCockroach. It is just a matter of time. What really scares the hell out of me is how much more damage Nedcompoop can do to the on field Dodgers in the interim.

Regardless of the ownership, the first and most important thing this off season is to get a deal done with Kemp that keeps him in Dodger blue for at least the next 5 years.

And I’m getting real tired of hearing about possibly signing either Pujols or Fielder. For one, it ain’t gonna happen. And secondly, deals for that long and that much money have historically not worked out well for the Dodgers or any other team. Get Kemp signed and get some money back into the scouting and player development departments that made the Dodgers great.

  10. JhallWally says:

The best hope we have for contending in 2012 is for Ethier, Loney, and Uribe to start producing. And Ned not to dole out anymore ludirous contracts to players like Rivera, Miles, Barajas, etc…
Just because a player has a good month or so, it doesn’t change what they really are.

    • Hey Wally, why didn’t Ned listen to your sage advice last year before signing Uribe? I really dislike FA signings because the actuality of them is that the new team is paying a player for his history, not his potential. And they rarely work out!!!

      • JhallWally says:

Hi’Ya Sparky. LOL. Because Ned is a moron. It wasn’t just me who knew/thought the Uribum, Grrrear, and Lilly contracts were ignorant. Same with the Schidt, Phew, and Andruw Jones deals. You would think that GM’s would wise up and realize that most FA signings don’t work out for the reason you mentioned above. Really underlines the need to invest in scouting and player developement.

  11. Let’s just hope that brighter days are ahead the Dodgers.

  12. trublu4ever says:

Just read where Dodgers & Juan Rivera are closing in on a 1-year deal…with an option for 2013. Not exactly Matty, is it?

  13. nedisajerk says:

    Happy Bday #34 Fernando Valenzuela.

  14. trublu4ever says:

Kersh just got NL Gold Glove for pitcher…..Congratulations, Clayton!

  15. We can go 4 for 4 if Loney wins Gold Glove. Ethier surprised me a bit though.

  16. nedisajerk says:

I was shocked to see Ethier win it. Eric did a comparsion on all the candiates but how did Young not win it? Young did make 13 errors which is a lot but do they really take errors into account? According to UZR Kemp is a below average fielders and we all know Kemp is a great fielders lol.

    http://www.truebluela.com/2011/10/31/2528451/clayton-kershaw-matt-kemp-five-dodgers-gold-glove-finalists

    • colliethec says:

Young had errors & Dre didn’t. He doesn’t get to all the balls but the ones he gets to he usually puts away. He isn’t a smooth fielder but he also has a hose which helps him with the GG. He was one of the tops in assists and teams don’t run on him because of his arm.

      • Nellyjune says:

He did make the top plays on MLB a few times and that has to count for something. And yea, I didn’t think about all the times a runner didn’t run on Andre (because of his arm) as being a factor. Good point.

        • colliethec says:

He is not smooth or slick but he gets the job done more often than not. He doesn’t make these amazing diving catches — usually sliding (Which could explain the knee issues he has) or banging into the wall. I think much of the GG winning is due to their assists. We’ve had so much bad this season — I’m going to take the good and put it in my pipe & smoke it… & I don’t smoke!

  17. Sorry, but if Dre’s considered a Gold Glove, then Velez should be considered a good hitter.

Had to be his ass… [goes away shaking head.]

  18. Nellyjune says:

It seems to be a little harder to judge an outfielder for this award because you, as an outfielder, may never have the opportunity to show off your arm, your diving catch or your “slide and catch” technique if the ball isn’t hit to you at a time that would require you to use those skills. And until recently, it was three outfielders (no matter the specific position) and they didn’t do it by specific outfield position (left, center, right). I understand the criticism, but at the same time, every ball that was hit to Andre was played, and he did a might fine job fielding right field. And if you consider he was playing with a hurt knee, all those sliding catches must have hurt just a tad. I can name a whole bunch of left fielders that deserved it over Andre, but they are left fielders. In all honestly, Matt was better as a centerfielder in 2009 than 2011, but far better than 2010. And, I can’t think of anyone who played center field better than he did. So, why wouldn’t you give it to him considering he will probably be the MVP as well, along with Kersh.

  19. Nellyjune says:

Ding Dong, the wicked Frank is gone!!!

  20. colliethec says:

    Peace out!!!!!!!!!

  21. Does this mean we have to start a suicide watch on Ned?

Unfortunately, if they only expect a new owner by opening day, that would pretty much mean Ned sticks through the ’12 season.

  22. BTW, how do you get in on this auction? I’m willing to go up to $10 grand plus my 2008 Civic Hybrid.

    • I’m willing to give up my 2008 BMW 535i and all I got in my bank to the cause. Heck, ill take a loan out to the cause. But that would be a couple million short and 2 cars too many. LoL. Maybe we could get Frank to park the cars for us though.

  23. Nellyjune says:

Maybe that plan Dodgereric had about $48 per (was it fan?) might do the trick – lol!!! ….and we can throw in your civic for good measure.

  24. northstateblues says:

NSB — You’ve been on here for years always posting amazing well written and thought out comments as well as very poignant stories… Then you come on here tonight and post the best one yet!

      • Nellyjune says:

I agree, however, all I can think of is Mr. Chow’s voice saying it – LOL!!! …..and that movie just cracks me up. I might have to watch just that part so I can imagine Mr. Chow saying that to Frank – LOL!!!

    • northstateblues says:

I know, I guess I have too much fun with this non-MLB affiliated blog and the freedoms of not worrying about child readers and such. this news is just too awesome not to imagine Mr. Chao delivering his sentiments to Frank, then peeling out to leave him in the smoke.

  25. dodgereric says:

“The Los Angeles Dodgers and Major League Baseball announced that they have agreed today to a court supervised process to sell the team and its attendant media rights in a manner designed to realize maximum value for the Dodgers and their owner, Frank McCourt. The Blackstone Group LP will manage the sale process.”

I’m trying. I’m trying real hard to find the loophole in this statement.

  26. Nellyjune says:

Well, the sell of the Dodgers made our local “top” news. It was so much better hearing it than reading it.

  27. Nellyjune says:

‎110 days till pitchers n catches report, 122 till full squad reports, 156 till opening day in San Diego.

  28. dodgereric says:

Yes, it’s cheap. Yes, it’s quick. But it’s the first:

I think I’m gonna be glad
    I think it’s today, yea
The asshole that’s drivin’ us mad
    Is going away.

He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride, and we don’t care

He said that he’d never sell,
But we’ve brought him down, yea
    Dodger Sta-de-um ain’t seen me,
    While he was around.

He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride, and we don’t care

I don’t care if it’s priced low or high
    As long as he gets,
    only 5 cents, we’re free.
Before he gets to saying good-bye
    We ought to get pine,
We ought to get tar, he’ll pee.

I think I’m gonna be glad
    I think it’s today, yea
The asshole that’s driving me mad
    Is going away.

He’s got a ticket to ride

      Hey, if the song fits…….
      .
      Well played Dodgereric!

    • 32and53fan says:

      Very nice Eric.

You have inspired me to write a verse sung to the tune of the “Marines’ Hymn”:

      From the foothills near Yosemite
      To Temecula down south.
We have fought to kick out Frank McCourt
By this blog and word of mouth.
      OTD knows Frank was greedy
      And a despicable man.
We are proud to claim the title of an LA Dodgers fan.

  29. nedisajerk says:

Well it a good thing Ned didn’t have a GG clause in there contract lol.

  30. 32and53fan says:

Tony Jackson of ESPNLA.com has more about the sale:

Owner Frank McCourt reached an agreement with Major League Baseball on Tuesday night to sell the Los Angeles Dodgers, along with Dodger Stadium and the surrounding real estate, a decision that brings to end not only a six-month legal battle with Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig but also a 7½-year ownership that was simply never embraced by the team’s fan base.

I assume that the sale includes ALL of the Dodgers holdings including any interest in the the Glendale, AZ spring training and Campo Las Palmas D.R. complexes and any other entity that McCourt stripped away in his plundering scheme.

  31. grizzy says:

    Finally.

  32. DodgerZona says:

Finally is right grizz…..About damn time

  33. trublu4ever says:

This makes looking forward to the holiday season a joy, indeed. Just wonder how long it will be before we see any action? Also, would love for the new owner to get rid of most of Frankie’s staff….mainly Neddie & Honeybutt!

  34. DodgerZona says:

For sure Tru….Honeybuns and Ned need to go away and all of McCourts staff….

  35. JhallWally says:

    HALLELUJAH!!!!!

  36. trublu4ever says:

Juan Rivera is officially a Dodger for 2012…..a mere 4M.

    • That’s $2M and an option year too much. Let’s just hope he’s not the “big bat.”

      • JhallWally says:

Yep, another Ned panic move. Probably means the Sands is not going to get a legitimate shot at the everyday LF job. Rivera should only be used as a right handed bat off the bench and to spot start for Ethier and Loney against lefties. I can live with overpaying him at $4M if he is used appropriately. But blocking Sands in LF is not accetable.

We need a new owner soon to stop the Colletti insanity!!!

  37. koufax1963 says:

    Hi OTD,
I am Joyful! I have been waiting for this announcement for a long time. I see Ned is still pulling strings, but I thought MLB had control on dodger expenses over $5K. Still the commish who let mcCourt in, is still there, will Selig be the savior?, and allow an owner who cares in. well shall cross that bridge soon enough, a bit early for celebration shots. and congrats to our 3 GG winners. Wait and see what other awards come to our dodgers, just having a new owner is great, if he/she/they care about good scouting, fundamental dodger way in the minors and supporting an awesome team in the majors.
    GO dodgers!

  38. messagebear says:

As the bidding begins, let me give what I think would be a REALISTIC business evaluation of the franchise and all associated business interests, wherever Frank has placed them over the years that he’s had to mismanage all the assets.

I would bid $650 million and not a penny more. I would be wary of anyone who goes much higher, because the deal ultimately has to make some business sense for the new owner. Forbes magazine estimated the value at about $800 million, but I believe that was a couple of years ago. For those like Frank who think it should be a billion or more, let me ask what has been done to the franchise in the last couple of years that should enhance the value since that $800 million valuation. How many of your homes or other properties have substantially increased in value the last couple of years?

Can we fairly assume that it could easily take $350 million to refurbish and otherwise update Dodger Stadium to bring it back to levels that are acceptable today? Add that to the $650 million investment to purchase and you have that $1 billion valuation. That doesn’t even take into account what needs to be done to bring the farm system back to a competitive level.

While the bankruptcy court has the power, all major non-player contracts should be terminated. That needs to be done so that the new owner can start with a clean slate selecting his own personnel. If he finds merit in rehiring certain management people, he or she can do so on new terms. Hopefully the people left out would be the Neds and Contes and probably a whole slew of ass suckers that have continued on for the seven years of the Frank regime.

    • vl4eccjr says:

Bear I think it will come down to how drastic of a face lift the stadium gets. If the new ownership wants to be extravagant, and go all out, it could be as high as $500 mil. When they added those extra 1000 seats or so a few years back, so wealthy fans could get closer to the action on the field level, it severely changed the playing field for the worse. All that extra foul ground kept more balls in play.

  39. 32and53fan says:

Some people on Inside the Dodgers are hoping people will come back there despite the fact that there has not been a new post since Josh left. I don’t really see the point of doing that. The vast majority of the posts there were marketing advertisements; very little was really “inside” information about the players and organization.

The Dodgers have clearly embraced Twitter and Facebook as the most effective way to put out information to suit their marketing goals. This blog has the official Dodger Twitter feed so we can read their marketing hype right here. It is interesting that the feed has not mentioned anything about McCourt agreeing to sell the team.

The main goal of OTD is to give us a place to talk about the Dodgers without any management spin, whoever that management may be. There are multiple places to obtain news then come here to talk about it. I welcome those of you who are so inclined to create new threads from time to time, something not possible on most blogs.

If ITD changes under new management, provides interesting non sales oriented news and actually responds to some of our comments and suggestions, then by all means utilize that outlet too.

Thank you for your participation on OTD. You have made this site an entertaining and informative place for this Dodger fan.

    • nellyjune says:

I have a feeling your stuck with most of us :)…….good or bad? That is yet to be determined – LOL!!

    • I fifth that.

      Or will drink one.

Or will take one. Nah, too opinionated for that. Scratch that. That was dumb.

    • And yet… I doubt the Dodgers’ front office is falling over themselves trying to read a non-MLB WordPress blog, no offense to the great work everyone does here.

If you want to steer the new owners straight, you gotta nail those theses to the right door.

I love this site as a place to blow off steam, where I don’t have to worry about saying : gasp : a “bad word” or two. But for feedback direct to the Dodgers, the ITD blog was a great place for those who don’t cotton to boxing themselves into 160 character limits or getting “more” ‘d on Facebook.

(And Facebook… yeesh, what a fucking mess. If you thought THIS meltdown was bad, wait ’til everyone realizes how much of themselves and privacy they’ve given away FOR FREE to some chowdaheaded hipster brat… information that, once upon a time, cost money for corporations to obtain).

The people who pigeonholed the Dodgers’ media experience into those boxes in recent years will soon be gone, and, as far as I know, MLBlogs isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Plus, there’s always multitasking. I’m not an ITDer or an OTDer. I’m not even “NSB”. I’m a Dodgers fan. Aren’t we all?

  40. vl4eccjr says:

Well it appears the white flag of surrender has finally been raised by McCrook. Hooray! I’m not ready to start break dancing, or jumping for joy just yet, at least not until all the dust has settled.
When ALL of Franks ties to this organization have been severed I will do so. I’m thinking Ned’s about as nervous as a whore in church now, knowing his days are numbered. Let’s all hope he doesn’t inflict more damage to the roster before he’s kicked to the curb for good.
    .
    .
BTW Congrats to Ethier, Kershaw, & Kemp on winning the gold gloves. I was pleasantly surprised Ethier got in.
    .
tru I think his outstanding arm strength out weighs his nice tush on getting this award. 😉

    • trublu4ever says:

I just like the entire package 🙂

      • JhallWally says:

The package needs to let the bat do the talking and keep its yap shut. He’s getting paid rather well, $10M+, to produce runs, not piss and moan. Grow up, shut up, and put up the numbers.

        • trublu4ever says:

He will….you will be pleasantly surprised. Dre is a good guy and you will realize it before too long. I believe it was a lot of the media who made him look bad.

        • vl4eccjr says:

Wally I think all the players should be coming into spring training with a fresh new outlook on the club & life in general. Maybe Conte could be gone along with Bunnynuts, Frank & Ned. God willing.

          • nellyjune says:

I think Andre would love that most of all…..Conte being gone. In the article about the new Athletic Trainer, it was mentioned that he waited until she got back from vacation to start his rehab. Also, why would he wait to get to Colorado before getting his infected toenail checked out. Then there is the whole knee issue. I think he wanted to wait until the season was over so he would have control over who was working with him on his knee.
            .
As for the comments, I think it needs to be water under the bridge. The Red Sox camp is still spewing out rumors they think Andre would be a good fit there…just as they were the ones who started the rumor he didn’t want to play for the Dodgers in the first place. Andre is very private and doesn’t do well with the media, and we have known that since day one. Yea, I agree, he could have picked better wording on some of the things he said, but I am in the camp of believing he will prove once again why we wanted him on this team in the first place. Just like the difference between the 2010 Matt and the 2011 Matt.

        • JhallWally says:

I hope you are all right about Andre and I am optimistic that a happier and healthier Ethier will be more productive in 2012. He’s going to have to be along with Loney and Uribe if the Dodgers are going to make the playoffs and a real run at the WS.

There is no “big bat” free agent cavalry coming to the rescue.

  41. vl4eccjr says:

The Cubs are looking for a new skipper. Quatte’s kicked to the curb. What a surprise! Aramis wants to test free agency. He’s not worth what he’s getting paid now!

  42. selltheteam says:

It ain’t over til it’s over. I’m not rejoicing until Frankie actually sells and is gone. Also, if the new owner doesn’t make job one canning Ned’s ass, I will personally kick the new owner’s ass.

  43. CONGRATULATIONS DODGER FANS….ALMOST…ALMOST THERE!

  44. CONGRATULATIONS BOYS IN BLUE….SO MANY GOLDEN GLOVES!

  45. trublu4ever says:

Who would you want to be the new owner? Kim Kardashian…but only for 72 days 🙂

    • JhallWally says:

LOL!! I just hope whoever it is gets there in time to stop Nedcompoop before it is too late.

    • Wow, now I have to think…NOT Fox for sure, they will be all business and no heart….just like Frank. I don’t know…most of this men lack the heart part! I don’t know why I’m leaning towards Cuban….if he has balls to dance than he knows how to have fun. He seems like someone who takes care of his employees…??? But who knows???

    • 32and53fan says:

O’Malley would be a good choice. He would partner with some rich guys, maybe Eli Broad, and not have to use much of his own money. At 73, he would not be in it for the long haul but it would be cool if he brought Orel Hershiser under his wing and taught him how to run a team. Hersh was always an egghead, keeping elaborate books on his opposing hitters, and might have the aptitude to learn ownership skills. Once O’Malley retires again, Hershiser could take over the reigns.

  46. Nedcompoops all over everything. He’s deshitz.

  47. trublu4ever says:

The Garvey, Hersheiser group is making a bid….good or bad for us? I also hear that th Magic Johnson group includes Mark Cuban. Have you heard anything else on who may be the leading contenders to own our club?

    • JhallWally says:

Haven’t really heard anything concrete yet Tru. Just the usual rampant speculation about previously mentioned groups. Also the thought that Fox and Time Warner may get involved to get the TV rights. I’m hoping for some sort of timetable for the sale to come to light soon. There should be no shortage of interested buyers. I like the idea of Magic and Cuban teaming up. I’m not crazy about having Garvey as one of our new owners.

    • lbirken says:

Not sure. Garvey was a great player and is still highly popular but he has had some issues with his personal and business life that concern me. I do think he is capable of bringing people together and it would be great to have someone like Hershiser in some capacity with the organization. Magic Johnson would be welcome by me because of his business connections and desire to win. I agree that Mark Cuban might be interesting but I don’t think the other MLB owners want him and his money in their club. Whoever bids for the organization needs to have a strong financial footing and be committed to Los Angeles. At the price any successful bidder will end up paying, it could be a long time to make a profit with all the work that the stadium needs and with the player development resources many of us think has been lacking.

    • Don’t have any problem with Hersh, he may even make a good pitching coach, but absolutely NO to Garvey. Magic/Cuban I could live with. HELL NO to Burke and his commies.

I agree about Garv although as I said, I don’t have any objections to him being a facilitator. I do hope that any new owner or ownership group would have to pass a stiff ethics test although having MLB or Bud Selig involved in that would be a joke.

When I first saw the L.A. Times report about the possible sale of the Dodgers I did not give it much credence. There were no credible sources and few details. Not wanting to be fooled I just let it simmer. Even now that the announcement is pretty much official I will still watch the situation with caution and wait for the details. It will be interesting to see what happens and how fast. At this point I don’t really care much what happens to the McCourts as long as they are gone and run out of town. I don’t even care to hear anything Frank has to say. I do think it optomistic to have new ownership in place by opening day but it makes for a good target date. Let the bidding begin and let’s hope the price is not too high.

Beautiful November poem. You know is the Fall here in Chatsworth when the Santa Ana winds are kicking in. Wonderful way to start November with the announcement of McCourt selling the team and our boys winning the Gold. Now Kemp has also won the SIlver. Let’s follow it up with a Cy Young award for Kershaw.

I am off to AZ for the SABR AFL conference that starts tomorrow.

Thanks for noticing Emma. November in LA is not much like the poem but one can imagine that they are from some four season location where the poem makes sense. I just liked the metaphor of the Dodgers being compared to a beaten and bare rose bush whose roots are as strong as ever under the snow. The new owner as spring will allow the team to bloom again.

    • lbirken says:

That might be interesting. I am still mad at him for selling to FOX in the first place. Not sure how long he would want to or be able to run the organization but at least he would have the credibility.

They talked about the Dodgers on mlb.tv. They said the actual process for new ownership will take well over the time frame it will take to get contracts to our core group, but we kind of already assumed that. I am not sure how that is going to go over with Matt’s agent. They are thinking they will take care of them until next year, and then offer them (Matt and Kersh) long-term contracts for 2013 and beyond, once the new ownership is in place. Plus, they also said there is no chance of getting Fielder or Pujols, not that any of thought that was a possibility in the first place.

I don’t know anything about UZR and until today never heard of that stat. I respect the stat freaks for trying to quantify the game but sometimes the just lose me in all the numbers. My eyes tell me Andre is a decent outfielder who gets to most balls hit his way and who has a respectable arm. If the Dodgers did decide to trade Andre for pitching prospects, who would replace him?

WTG Kemp and Kershaw more award to win now is the MVP and CY.

I just saw that…awesome for them! For having a less than stellar season, our boys did pretty well reaping rewards. Very nice!

      • trublu4ever says:

What makes this award special is the fact that the players themselves vote for the winners.

      • These individual awards makes you wonder what might’ve been had Ned surrounded them with major league caliber players rather than crap like Navarro, Thames and Cormier.

I’m actually happy Ned doesn’t have money to spend and is being pretty well forced to stand pat. In doing so this will probably be hailed as his most successful offseason.

        • trublu4ever says:

I agree. If we can play the entire season like we did at the end of this one, We may hang in there. However, I really wonder if the kids (Gordon, Sellers & Sands) will get the chance to play. Or, rather…will they still be with us, or, will Neddie trade them away for some washed up FA?

    Congratulations to Matt and Clayton!!!

Jamie gets 4 homes and Frank only gets 2. Downsizing at its best – geez!
