The Dodgers won their 81st game last night ensuring another winning season after spending most of the year far below the .500 mark. The team’s surge during the last two months has brought the Dodgers into the top half of all MLB teams, which may not be a good thing according to Josh Suchon of Dodger Talk: “…A team that signs a Type A free agent in the off-season -– you know, like Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder –- has to forfeit a first-round draft pick. But if that teams finishes in the second half of all Major League Baseball teams, then it falls to a second-round pick. So if you finish with one of the top 15 records and sign a Type A, there goes your first-round pick…”
Matt Kemp’s 38th home run sparked a 4-2 win over the D’backs and brought Kemp within two of the 40/40 club with two games to play. His quest for the lead in the batting average is all but over as he is now down by 10 points. He still has a strong chance for the MVP award despite not winning the triple crown. With three more RBIs, Kemp will be in second place behind Tommy Davis for the most RBIs by a Los Angeles Dodger. With 123, he trails Mike Piazza and Shawn Green who have 124 and 125 RBIs respectively.
Tonight could be the end of the line in Los Angeles for Dodgers veteran Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda, who pitched in Japan for 11 seasons before coming to the Dodgers, has yet to decide whether he’ll return to Los Angeles or pitch in Japan next season. “At this moment, I really don’t know,” Kuroda said. “I might stay here, I might go to Japan. It’s 50-50.”
This Day in Dodgers History
September 27, 1961 – Sandy Koufax breaks the National League mark for strikeouts in a season, surpassing Christy Mathewson’s mark of 267 established in 1903. Unlike the turmoil caused by commissioner Ford Frick’s edict of having to hit 61 homers by the 154th game in the extended 162-game schedule to break Babe Ruth’s single season home run record, little is made that Dodgers southpaw’s 268th punch-out occurs in the 151st game of the season, compared to the 142-game sked played early in the century.

According to the L.A. Times, Ned Colletti was told by Frank McCourt that he will have the money too sign Kemp, Kersh & Andre to long term contracts….as well as money for the free agent market. I’d like to know how, especially when he was worried about making payroll?
I heard that Mc**** was selling off property/houses. Also, Jamie is taking less in alimony. Maybe this is where the money will come from. I also think that he will take Beav’s suggestion and launch that Dodger Stadium clothing line featuring outfits that look like empty seats.
That clothing line would make him a bundle 🙂
Collettii is supposed to be the guest on Dodgers Live tonight. So, we shall see what kind of story he weaves.
I don’t agree with Josh Suchon at all on this. I say if the Dodgers sign a Type A, they’ll be no need for a first round pick.
I’m very happy that the team pull itself together and finished with a winning record. In June we couldn’t ask for anything more. We are now playing like one of the best teams in baseball and promising to make the final 8 next year.
Right now we have nothing to do but concentrate on Matt Kemp.
GO KEMVP!!!!
Considering his age, I don’t think you sign Andre long term. That leaves the question – when to trade him. Coming off injury I don’t think you have a choice there but to try and let him rehabilitate his stats and flip him at the trade deadline next year. If his stock is up, you make out like a bandit. If its about where it is now, you’re no worse off and could still squeeze a couple of good prospects for him.
I’m with you all the way and then some Beav. We’ve seen the best that Ethier has and that was 2 to 3 years ago and not worth $10M+. He’s getting older and crabbier. Get the deal done with Kemp and forget about the crybaby prima donna. Ethier is not the future. Kemp definately is.
I can’t see where the money is going to come from to get all this done. I’ll believe it when I see it. Just another spin to sell season tickets most likely. Beside that fact, even with Carte Blanche, Ned will come up empty. Let’s hope that they at least have their priorities in the right order and get a deal done with Kemp regardless of anything else. Then work on Kersh.
I figured some of you would be more concerned with the news Ned had money to spend than if he didn’t.
Yep Birk. Says alot about the job Ned has done spending Franks money. Lets face it, his track record sucks.
Think if you look at the track record, Ned’s wasted 3 to 3 1/2 times as much money as Frank.
Frank’s greedy, but Ned’s an idiot.
Frank has popped for some pretty big payrolls. Ned just has not used the money very efficiently. Depodesta probably would have done better with the budget than Colletti.
Dodgers lineup:
Gordon 6,
Sands 9,
Kemp 8,
Rivera 7,
Loney 3,
Miles 5,
Barajas 2,
Carroll 4,
Kuroda 1.
Don’t look now, but, I think we are pretty much looking at next years lineup. Just add in Ethier and Uribe.
Who would you have in left, Sands or Rivera?
They will either platoon them or, knowing Ned, he will keep Rivera and get rid of Jerry. However, Sands can be a backup for James, provided Loney is still on the team.
Who do they keep…Miles or Carroll? Or, both?
Bench jockies: Miles, Carroll, Ellis, Rivera, and Gwynn.
Oh no, that means Eugeni04ever is out of a job!
Miles. Carroll’s worthless with men on base and his D isn’t much better than Miles’.
It would not surprise me if both are back next year Tru. It follows Neds MO. If I had to pick between the two, I would have to go with Miles because he is a better hitter with RISP. I’m still going to be very curious to see what kind of shape Uribe shows up to ST in.
Ethier in left, Sands in right, Rivera and Gwynn on the bench.
Everyday? Sands. Can’t let Rivera’s two month’s resurgence fool you like it will Ned. That said, I’d still want Rivera back as a back-up and bench guy with some pop.
I think I would lean toward Sands as the everyday player assuming he has a good Spring and gets off to a decent start. Rivera could be a good backup and possibly pinch hitter. He can play some first base as well. I like Gwynn’s work ethic and his desire but other than speed, he doesn’t bring much else. Besides, with slap happy Dee Gordon in the lineup and Miles possibly an everyday player, the lineup needs more pop. I guess a lot depends on what Rivera wants.
In answer to your question Birk. I’d have Ethier in left as a platoon with Rivera.
Dre has played both positions. Just so he’s in there, I don’t care where he plays, Jhall 😉
I don’t care where any of them play as long as they keep their mouths shut and get the job done.
If they ever have a tar and feather party for the two Stow-beating dipshits at AT&T Park, we should take inspiration and have a similar party at Dodger Stadium…. for McCourt and Selig.
NSB, he isn’t worth it.
Which one? 🙂
I’m hoping and praying that when ST comes around, Uribe is unable to play. I know it will cost us some $$$….but, he will cost us much more playing everyday!
I would think you hope he can play and he has a great year. The Dodgers are stuck with him so might as well hope for best. The real question is how long the Dodgers stick with him if he does stink up the place again.
I also would rather he has a great year. He got praise from lots of people when he was signed and had some power playing with SF. Who knows what physical issues he had this year? Hopefully, he will report to spring training healthy and eager to put this year behind him.
I would just hate for him to be Andruw Jones, Part 2. So let’s hope he does have a decent year. Put him at third and see what happens.
LOL!!! What a conundrum. Good points. If they have insurance on him in case of injury as most teams do, then if he doesn’t come back, so be it. No loss. If not, well, another Schidt contract for Ned.
However, in a more realistic light, he will be back and all we can do is hope to god that he is productive. They stuck with him way too long this year when he was pathetic and it really hurt the team. Both on the field and I think, in the clubhouse. A highly paid and pampered player that isn’t producing, is cancer on a team..
Another good question is: How long do they stick with Ethier and his $10M+ if he isn’t getting it done. Dildon kept him in the #3 hole way too long for some unknown reason. Probably didn’t want to hurt his fragile ego. And he still couldn’t get it done even with the leagues best hitter batting behind him.
By the way, Kemp should have been batting 3rd from opening day. Everyone here knew it and it only took Dildon 4 months to catch on. Once again, I think it had alot to do with Ethier and his attitude.
You had better take it easy on Andre or, Nellyjune will have to kick your ass! 😉
Oh well. The truth is not always kind. The Andre Kool-Aid doesn’t work on me. I don’t care if you are cute and had a good season 2 or 3 years ago. It doesn’t win ball games and championships.
I see no reason why Dre shouldn’t be hitting 2nd. Dee, Dre, Matt. The problem is, who hits 4-5-6. Barajas/Ellis, Miles should be 7-8.
If Miles is batting any higher than 7 next year, its going to be another long season. Unfortunately that leaves Sands/Rivera, Loney and Uribe in some sort of order batting 4-5-6.
Truth is, any line-up with Uribe & Miles is weak no matter what.
Sadly, if you are considering Miles and/or Uribe as an everyday player and batting them 5th, you’ve got some serious problems.
I actually think Dre will bounce back numbers wise. Upstairs ???
Sands/Rivera everyday vs. Thames/Gibbons/Gwynn from the start of the season can’t help but be an improvement.
Uribe/Blake vs. Miles/Uribe, IF Uribe even hits .250 will just about be a wash. But they’re going to have to upgrade tremendously at 2B or 3B, and get ML production all year from LF & RF to finish much better than they did this year.
In the end though, its all going to come down to starting pitching, and unless they get another frontline pitcher and/or Billz pulls his head out, they’r going nowhere fast.
What do you guys think about Selig kicking the Dodgers out of baseball? Can he just elimiate us? Does he actually have that much power?
Tru, I have seen those comments and I haven’t a clue what it means. Unfortunately, unless someone can talk some sense into Frank McCourt, it appears the courts may decide what happens. Frank outsmarted MLB by filing bankruptcy, which apparently is against MLB rules. Of course, Frank knows that but also knows MLB runs a huge risk by going to court to enforce its rules. From what I have read, Frank’s challenge to MLB rules could endanger the rules of other sports leagues. He is making a strong case that MLB is treating him differently. Frank’s whole MO is to wear down his opponent and I think he may even have the upper hand.
But let’s be realistic. How in the world can Selig eliminate the Dodgers? How does that solve any problems? The real culprit here is Selig himself for allowing all of this to happen in the first place. Let’s hope MLB’s lawyers are better than McCourt’s.
Thanks, lbirken.
Actually, yes he does have the power as the baseball constitution is written. He also has the power to seize the Dodgers and sell them because Frank filed bankruptcy. Now it just remains to be seen whether or not he has the balls to put those powers and baseballs anti-trust status to the test in the courts. If he loses, Baseball is in for some changes.
Kind of frightening, isn’t it?
Yep. As Birk pointed out, Selig is a pretty big slimeball in his own right. Frank is just a bigger slimeball at the present time.
We’re getting slimed from both sides 🙂
LOL!! Who ya gonna call? Trust Busters!!! Actually it would be pretty neat if the courts busted up the Baseball anti-trust. I’d love to see the salary system more like the NFL. If you don’t perform up to expectations, they can cut your ass and not pay you. Baseballs system sucks. Players get paid more for what they did in the past more than what they are currently doing.
Trust Busters 😉
There should be a salary cap for players. If it were up to me, it would be 3 mil a year maximum, then the bonuses would start coming for the players performances afterward. Average, HR’s, RBI’s, OBP, OPS, GWRBI’s, SB’s, etc. Pitchers; Wins, ERA, SO’s, Holds, Saves, etc.. . .Astronomical salaries are killing the game. I don’t care how talented a player is. NO ONE is worth over 12 mil a year!
OK Outsiders. We’ve got a winning record sewed up for 2011. Hard to believe. About all that is left now is for Kemp to get 40 HRs.
C’mon Matt!! Hit a couple of dingers for us!!!
Go Dodgers!!!
Hopefully, Matty can take advantage of the rookie!
Also glad Dildon didn’t screw around and bat him leadoff. If Kemp mashes these last two games, I think he’s got a good shot at the MVP. It’s gonna be close but he’s really got to mash these two games to have a shot. I think he should get it because he did it almost single handedly most of the year. Whereas, Braun had Fielder batting behind him and a much better supporting cast.
Wrote a quick theme song for Ned:
POOPEYE THE GM MAN
I’m Poopeye the GM man
I’m doing the best I can
Third place has been ciniched
Our season is finitched
I’m Poopeye the GM man
Please feel free to add-on more verses as you deem appropriate.
I work for a slime
Who’s accused of committing a crime
Hopefully both of us will be gone in a matter of time!
Yes, I’m Poopeye the GM
Big money I’m supposed to pay
Kersh, Matty & Dre
But, with Frankie’s finances a mess
I must confess
There is no fucking way
They will ever get their pay!
I’m Poopeye the GM and, I will find
Old broken down players, who can grind.
Sounding like another winner. You’re both on to something. I’m trying to dream up another verse. Maybe I need some inspiration to get my creative juices flowing. . .Maybe a few shots!!! LOL
I’m Poopeye the GM man
I’ve got a stock purchase plan
I don’t give a shit
if Velez gets a hit
I have no attention span

Nice!! Good stuff everyone.
Just good…..not awesome, yet? 😉
LOL!! Freaking awesome!!!
That’s better! 🙂
Good Evening ITD Readers and Writers!!! I have and always will be a Dodger fan first and player fan 2nd (as far as MLB is concerned). The only exception will be is if my son makes it this far and isn’t playing for the Dodgers. Then, my favorite player would have to be him, regardless of the team he would play for :). That being said, I truly do understand the Andre skeptics, and I still love you all :). I have read almost every article that has anything to do with Andre, Matt and James because they were part of that young gun dynasty that Ned, Frank and Joe so badly screwed up time and time again.
.
I believe in all three of them!! I confident if they are with the Dodgers for the 2012 season, they will be stronger than ever. Matt has obviously had an amazing season, but what could’ve been if Mattingly had just done the simple switch of
putting Matt in the 3-hole just a tad sooner. We could’ve been at least competing for a wild card spot. We are so much better (right now) than those two teams competing for it.
.
GO DODGERS!!!
Well said Nelly. Excellent post. Kemp should have been in the 3 hole much earlier, but, the majority of the damage was depending on and being stuck with Thames, Navarro, Gibbons, Uribe, Furcal, Blake, and their like for so long. The team really came together when all of that dead weight shit was eliminated.
I am hopeful that Loney and Ethier will have really good to great seasons next year. I think Billz needs to have a big year also. If they don’t, we will be looking at another .500ish season and no playoffs.
I was hoping Kuroda would put one in Parra’s ear hole. 😦
Yep, me too!!! Someone needs to put that punk on his ass.
Matt!
Damn!
Braves lost again…I’m sure glad we don’t have Lowe on our team anymore!
🙂 Yep, I never cared for his act. Him or JD Drew.
By the way, Prince hit 3 homers tonight and is now tied with Matty. Also, Sux won and so did the Rays. Cards are winning right now.
Wow. Rays and Sux tied. Sure hope the Rays knock them off.
Does that leave the Braves and Cards in a tie now?
Fielder having the kind of night Kemp needed to win the MVP.
If the Cards win, and they are right nw, they will be tied. The Rays have to win tomorrow to force a playoff, I believe.
Sounds like old fat boy was feasting on young & weak Pirates pitching. . . 😦
Seriously, we should just tie McCourt and Selig back to back, and ride them out of town on the same rail. Better yet, they both want to court China so badly, let’s Shanghai them.
.
What’s good for one is as good for both. Neither one is the good guy or the bad guy, they’re both crap.
.
It’s been Selig’s wet dream to do this to the Dodgers ever since they made him sit on a high chair at the owner’s table in O’Malley’s day.
.
And what can I say about Frank McCourt that hasn’t already been said about a backed-up septic tank?
.
Fuck ’em both.
Exactly!! The Dodgers and Baseball as a whole will be much improved when both of them are just a bad chapter in the baseball story.
Is it me or is this game a real snoozer?
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
OMG!!! Open practice for scouts to come and watch a certain team my son is playing for, and guess which team is on the list? ……the Dodgers, among many, including colleges, but still….
.
This game is borrrrrring!!!
How awesome!
Cool Nells! We’ll have him in Blue in no time!!
Great news, Nelly. I am certain he’ll open lots of eyes and excite those scouts 🙂
That is totally awesome Nelly!!! Go Michael!!!
Thanks!!!! We tease each other back and forth. He says I’ll be wearing orange and black again some day, and I tell him it’s going to be him (and hubby) wearing Dodger Blue – lol!!!
Wow – Gordon comes through! But, as Dave (my room mate) says, “Speed kills.”
Freaking Grrrear. What a piece of shit.. If we make it thru the 7th with Grrrearend, we’ve got a good shot with Jansen and Kenley.
Not a good beginning at all. Let us bow our heads and pray.
I’d rather tie Ned and Grrrearend back to back to a stake and burn their worthless asses.
I second that!!!!!
Well if it isn’t our $12M 7th inning man. Another fine Ned acquisition.
Last night on Dodger Talk, Blow and Hummer were saying what a good job he has done this season considering that he was overused by Dildon early in the season. What a load of shit.
What a crock. And you don’t pay a middle reliever set-up man/closer wages.
Only Ned.
KABC didn’t get the radio contract for next year so those homers should be history. I hope the new Dodger Talk host or co-hosts have some balls and aren’t just Dodger ass kissers.
Guess their ass-kissing didn’t get them the new contract for the station did it? 🙂
LMAO!! No, Frank will stab you square in the back while you are bent over with your with your head up his ass..
Oh damn – Grrrrr-rear!!!!!
Elbert may have a flashy ERA also, but he’s still Elbert.
IMO, unless significant upgrades are made to both the starting and relieving staff next year, we’re looking .500 at best again.
Have to agree with you on that. Billz is going to need to get his head out of his ass and we aren’t going anywhere if we have to rely on McDooDoo, Hawksworth, or Grrrrearend.
Wasn’t Hawksworth a Rule 5?
Billz I’d trade. Hell he and Dre ought to be able to get them a pitcher and a catcher.
We got Hawkshit from StLouis for Theriot. Shit for Manure.
Yep, if they are having good seasons, I’d trade either or both of them while the iron was hot.
Wow, a good job by MacTurd. I’d be willing to bet Ned will sign him again to at least a 2-year contract.
Yep. That will help him keep his streak of bad contracts going next year.
Ned’s understanding of statistics is rudimentary at best. He’ll look at 3-1 and 2.05 and proclaim him the best thing since sliced bread. Hell, I’ll bet he locks him up before he can file for FA.
I’m hoping we get the lead…Kenley comes in and nails Parra!
I’m totally down with that Trumom!!! That would be awesome.
Well shit!!! C’mon Kenley!!!!
Heck of a nice bit of pitching, Kenley!
Yay Kenley!!! Clap…Clap
Jansen keeps doing that voodoo thing! 🙂
I love the voodoo thing 😉
Someone needs to take care of Punkarra tomorrow.
Lilly 🙂
As soft as Lilly throws, it won’t hurt enough for me. Hell! Parra may just lean into one like Victorino did to him earlier this year.
Does he know how to hunt for heads? I have to wonder . . . .
They say he is the one guy who would nail a hitter. Even though it may not be hard, it would send the message.
Yep, Lilly is the guy. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t nail him.
I am definitely a KJ and Javy fan!!!! Love the way they pitch!!! Kersh too 🙂
At least we don’t have to worry about Velez PHing.
Pucking Futz!
You said it!
Nice job Josh! On to extrazzzzzzzzzzzzz. . .Sooo sleepy. Hope I don’t do a face plant on the keyboard.
Skinnyswag!
Sandman!
Wow!!! We’ll take it. WTG Gordo!!!!
And, Matty too! Woo-hoo!
WOW! Talk about crazy!
Yes! More!!!
Looks like Micah might not have that shiny 7-0 record anymore.
Way to go Dodgers!!! Now, keep the lead and all will be good 🙂
A.J. Awesome and, Upton just got hit in the head with the ball off the fence!
So, even though it wasn’t Parra, A.J. nailed somebody 😉
WOW! WTG A.J!! Upton getting hit in the noggin to boot! That ought to do it!
Carroll can’t buy an RBI.
That’s why I’m not a fan of his.
He’s ok at setting the table, but clearing it’s another story. I hope it’s adios for him after tomorrow.
Anyone ever keep track of our predictions for wins this season? I said only 75 so that makes me quite a few off.
I was at 71 so I was way off.
Sure hope this lead is enough . . . .
Nice play, Dee!!
Hawks throws pretty hard. How about one in Parra’s ear now?
Hawks…YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO COVER FIRST!
See…now you have two on and the game should be over! Shit!!!!
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hawks suffers from Billz brain fart disease (BFD.)
Hawk makes me suffer heart burn!
BFD…..he sure does!
BBFD (Billz, Brox, fart disease)
What in the Wide World of Sports is going on around here????
Miles proving, once again, that he is not a third baseman.
Totally!!!!
Note to Ned: Don’t bring Hawksworth back next year.
Setting up the save opportunity for Javy……
Come on Javy….do your thing.
Okay…let’s get the next guy, Javy!
F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!
Unbelievable – unacceptable – awwww ********!!!!
This is why Guerra should not be the closer. He almost always walks the first guy he faces.
UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Unbefuckinglieveable! G’night! Rubber game tomorrow.
Well that was pathetic. Thank you Miles. Thank you Hawksworth. And thank you too Guerra.
Please make Kenley the closer next year.
Yep. The bad part is, this good two month stretch is going to lead to some bad decisions. There are alot of guys playing way over their heads right now and it won’t carry over to next year.
Hope that’s the last we ever see of Hawksworth!!! What a bummer.
Bear predicted 79 wins and I said 86. So Bear is going to end up the closest.
All I’ve got to say is “WOW, that sucked!!!”
I feel like I went through the Time Tunnel and came out in the middle of the shit storm of the spring. One minute I’m going about my business and I see it’s 1-1 on Gameday. The next thing I know I see 6-1 Dodgers in the 9th and am feeling great that the boys won another. I go off and do some other stuff then come back and read a few WTFs here and then look at Gameday and see Guerra’s picture for the deciding pitchers. I am thinking “Cool, Guerra picked up the win after the other relievers imploded.” Looking a little closer, I see that Guerra was the LOSER!!! WTF!!!!
