In a better world, we would solve our economic issues and be done with them, move on to fixing the jobs market and then move onto education and taxes. In a sophisticated world, we would think logically before speaking, using our ideas to come to a better accord. However, these ideals and tasks have been put off for far to long, that now, public perception is neither fix nor cut, but rather a simple GET IT DONE.
What can be said about this American treasure commonly referred to as the Los Angeles Dodgers.? Our perception of this team runs wild from acceptable, to deplorable, insulting and plain horrid. No more is it a fallacy of the times, than it is of the people who head it.
Enter one Frank McCourt. Under better brain capacity, he’d at least consider to notion of stepping down, but it is because of this lack of brain capacity that he still scorns us. He considers us the enemy and he the liberator: a fighter of the people, for the people, per-se. He has previously said many times that the media has misconstrued the truth and that he is the victim. Although there may be some truth to this, and to how we arrived at this point in time and place, he cannot deny the fact that he brought this upon himself. The mere fact that his conniving sickening ways were kept hidden for so long, is a testament to our lack of digging for answers, and using our better judgement and logic before purchasing that $5 hot dog, $7 beer, $15 parking and $5.50 nachos, and asking, what is he doing with all that money.
Now we know better.
So with all this hatred for the man, and the lack of interest in anything he does to try and bring fans around, what more can he do.? In his mind, again, he is the victim, and his story has been tangled in a web of lies. And with that, Frank has taken it upon himself to ask Bankruptcy Court, the court that now controls the financials of the Dodgers, to allow him to hire a PR firm so they can tell his story in his way.
Never mind the fact that people whom work for the Organization are made to sign confidentiality waivers and cannot speak about the intertwines of the Organization after leaving the ball-club, but also attesting to the fact that now former Vice President of Communications left his post to pursue the forthcoming promotion of this title with another club, seems fishy. I mean, wouldn’t portraying the Dodgers and all things related to them fall under one of Josh Rawitch’s duties?
So all alas for Josh, as maybe he was fired, or left of his own free will. But why hire a PR firm whose sole focus will be to negate any story about an owner whom we all have seemed to fall in love with. We all know about the stealing, deception, cut backs, and problems that plague this team, but when will the man whose name falls on the deed ultimately see this whole situation for what it is: a no win situation. I wonder how this PR firm will try to fix that part of his image!
This Day In Dodgers History
September 18, 2006
The Dodgers, who are last in the National League in homers, hit four consecutive home runs in an inning when Jeff Kent, J.D. Drew, Russell Martin and Marlon Anderson all go deep in the bottom of the ninth to tie the Padres, 9-9. The improbable feat, which had only been accomplished by the 1964 Twins, 1963 Indians and the 1961 Braves, leads to Nomar Garciaparra’s walk-off two-run homer in the tenth and sole possession of first place as the Los Angeles beat the Friars 11-10.
September 18, 1988
Despite a sore elbow that has plagued him for days, Dodger left-hander John Tudor continues his success after coming to Los Angeles in a trade with St. Louis as he pitches six scoreless innings and picks up the victory in a 2-0 triumph at Cincinnati.
Tudors victory increases the Dodgers lead in the National League West to a season-high nine games over the second place Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants while reducing L.A.s magic number to six.
Tudor, acquired in a trade August 16 for Pedro Guerrero, limited the Reds to five hits before giving way to reliever Alejandro Pena, who pitched the final three innings for the Dodgers fourth shutout in their past eight games.
A crafty left-hander who relied on a change of speeds for his success, Tudor was instrumental in the Dodgers drive to the pennant during their World Championship season as he posted a 4-3 record and 1.91 ERA following the trade.
September 18, 1984
With a 3-0 victory over Milwaukee, the Tigers clinch the American League East title to become only the fourth team in major league history to lead from start to finish of a season. The other three clubs to accomplish the feat include the 1923 Giants, 1927 Yankees, and the 1955 Dodgers.
September 18, 1963:
Dick Nen records his only hit as a Dodger, a ninth-inning homer that ties the score at 5-5 in a game Los Angeles eventually won, 6-5, over the Cardinals in 13 innings. The win gives the Dodgers a three-game sweep over St. Louis, which had been threatening L.A.s lead in the National League. Although that was his only hit, the Dodger players later voted him a $1,000 share of World Series spoils.
September 18, 1947
Jackie Robinson is named 1947 “Rookie of The Year”
So, let me get this straight. The Bankruptcy Court has been asked if the Dodgers can pay for legal fees and a financial advisor fees (both of which are in the millions of dollars each), and now the bankruptcy court is being asked if the Dodgers can pay for a PR firm. What a crock!!! I bet Josh was clawing to get the hell out.
There’s a highy rated publicity firm here in the Seattle area by the name of Lowenstein Olney Pawitch, more popularly known as LIPSTICK ON PIG, because they’ve been repeatedly used by some tarnished political figures. Sounds like the right choice to me to tackle the McCourt debacle.
This is a crock! Why make a costly futile attempt at damage control after the fact? The damage has been done. The way I see it, there is no way this story can be ‘spun’ to make it seem less FUBAR than it already is. Like the old story goes; “It’s like closing the barn door after the animals have already escaped.” This just makes me despise Frankrupt even more. Once again, this piss poor excuse of a human being thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, and is immune from his crimes. PATHETIC!!!

Fabulous thread Yunghitters!!!
.
And thanks for the attendance update Dodgereric!!! The biggest drop off will be 2012 season ticket sales if Frank is still the owner for very much longer,
It is a great thread, Yung. We have a fantastic and unique group of authors here on Outside the Dodgers. Let’s face it, ALL the folks contributing to this blog are special.
I hope Billz has his shit in one bag today, and he gets some decent run support. If all goes well, they can be a .500 team by the end of the day!
When Billz takes the mound, it is a crap-shoot. I find myself more worried when he’s out there than when Lilly is. So, come on Billz, show us why you were given a huge pay day!
From Mark Cuban’s Facebook feed:
“Just a quick update to people asking whether or not I will buy an NHL/NFL/MLB team. The lesson learned from the failed acquisitions of others is that the end game is not buying a team. The end game is buying a team AND having sufficient money to absorb losses and pay for players and player development.
IMHO, some team sales price are outside the buy and succeed zone. They are in the “cash out the former owners, fans be damned” zone.
I wont make that mistake.”
So, does that mean he won’t touch the Dodgers with a 10 foot pole (as the saying goes)? With the Dodgers paying legal fees, financial advisory fees and now a PR firm possibly, how can the Dodgers afford ANY players of substance? The Dodgers still have players on the books that aren’t playing for them. Plus, they have all these multiple year contracts for players who haven’t given the fans too many things to cheer about, other than when they don’t okay. And there really is no end in sight to this fiasco, as Frank just sits back and watches the rest of MLB and it’s fans squirm.
“other than when they don’t play”
Obviously McCourt had a different end game in mind. Probably turning the rim of the parking lot into a mega-development with luxury high rise residential units and high end retail shops and restaurants.
Even if he is forced to sell, he will walk away with millions in profits even after all of his outrageous attorney and other professional fees are paid. In I way, I admire him. Why couldn’t any of us on OTD with no capital of our own buy the Dodgers for $430 million using other people’s money and sell it seven years later for $1.2 billion? It is like all those real estate infomercials that showed people who started with no money down and within a year had 20 properties with $1.5 million equity. It’s a nice trick if you know how to do it.
Maybe you have to be a ruthless, cutthroat, society-climbing low life to pull off stuff like that.
Five bucks say Carroll can’t drive him in.
I’ll take the five bucks in pennies, please!
You can sign Velez with it. LOL!!!
LMAO!!!!
Woo-Hoo!
Bison!!!! Gordon, too!
Clap…Clap
( 😉 )
We need lots & lot of runs to protect us from Billz!
Thank-you, JERRY!
Jerrrrrrrrrrrrry!!!!!
Hay Wally, haven’t looked at the home page blog for a few days until this morning… Some morons over there were talking glowingly of how good JP was and that we should’ve never let him go.
I was so beside myself I couldn’t even type a reply.
These are obviously the same people who think Frank and Ned are doing a bang up job!
Good grief. There are some real goof balls over there. I hear ya, some of the comments are so freaking ridiculous that they don’t even deserve a comment. I almost puke when they talk about Ned doing a good job and the poor on field performance is all because of Frank.
What home page blog?
Dodgers home page. Occasionally I like to slum it and mix it up with them.
Not that I’d ever be one to stir the pot or anything.
Double or nothing says Billz will give some of it back this inning.
LOL!! You read my mind.
You guys don’t give anyone an inch, do you?
Just playing the percentages. 🙂
Hey Tru, now you’ve got 10 bucks to play with.
Now, we can sign Velez & McDooDoo 😉
Uggggggh!!!
I have not seen a report that the Dodgers want to hire a PR firm but it shouldn’t surprise anyone. Hopefully the court will see the waste of money such an expense would be since the outcome doesn’t mean a darn thing. All it proves is what Yung already concluded; Frank lives in some dream world and those around him either do too or they are just chasing the gravy train to the bitter end. Most of what we know about the McCourts came out in the divorce and bankruptcy courts. Even if the McCourts have done nothing illegal, what they have done has been terribly selfish and detrimental to something Frank himself called a stewardship: control of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Frank blames MLB for forcing him into bankruptcy by not allowing him to mortgage more of the future by agreeing to a deal with FOX. The money drain started a long time ago and clearly the divorce made things worse. As fans, we don’t care the team made the playoffs and actually won two playoff series under McCourt because of all this other crap. The organization is certainly worse off now than two years ago. Yes, the economy has something to do with a decline in revenues but good business practices might have kept the team more solvent. The only thing that we can all agree with is that Frank needs the broadcast deal to stay solvent, pay his bills and pay Jamie. A PR firm is not going to change anything.
Exactly!! No PR campaign can undo the gross mismanagement that has left the Dodgers foreseeable future in serious jeopardy. Letting Frank sell off TV rights from 2 years in the future to pay the debts he created in the last 5 years by mismanagement and greed is simply bullshit.
Frank talks about being misunderstood and unfairly treated. How fair is it for him to basically renege on his deal with Fox now.
Amazing…ever since the Dbacks left L.A. they can’t score any runs. Meanwhile, the gnats are tearing it up!
I’m with Nelly on the D’Backs. They are paying for the bad kharma they created. I hope they choke on it!!!!
Gibbie was given a lot of credit for the big turnaround from last season in Arizona. Every interview I heard about him was the same: he changed the attitude and challenged the players. Will he be given the blame if the team collapses down the streatch?
I’ll bet they blame us! 😉
They might if we lay down against the Giants this week.
We won’t lay down against the G’Aints this week.
I also bet they are a little miffed that the Rockies are playing without Helton & Tulo….and, of course, Cargo is hurt again. But, if the dbacks can’t beat the lowly Puds, they don’t deserve to win!
Yes, she was right!
Bison is in beast mode today!
I think Loney has all but locked up a contract for next season. In fact, I think we are pretty much looking at the team we will have next year.
I believe you’re right.
With Ned in charge you never know.
J-E-R-R-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Think that might be enough for Billz?
Not yet 🙂
You beat me to the punch! Seriously, let’s hope Billz isn’ concerned about the same thing.
Wah-Hoo Jerrrrrrry!!! Sands may have Billz-proofed this game. Of course that leaves Grrrrearend, Hawkshit, and McDooDoo.
With all the crap pitching you get in September, its hard to gauge how Sands is really doing.
Interesting observation. Or Loney for that matter.
We shall see what happens Tuesday when Lincescum pitches. Hopefully we can beat his sorry ass and give Kersh the win!
I did not set this blog up to be part of MLBlogs because I did not want any restrictions and I don’t care to be a part of the MLB marketing machine. However, while looking for the blog that Beav mentioned (which I did not find), I saw the following:

Damn Tru. At least you haven’t murdered 300 songs.
( ( 🙂 ) )
LMFAO!!!!
Don’t know for sure if its Gurnick’s blog or not 32. All I know is that its at the end of all the articles/stories they publish on the Dodgers home page. Get some real winners on there.
The standings and almost all of those blogs are a freaking joke. They put more weight on page hits/views than on actual comments and participation. It’s bullshit. Most of those blogs get fewer than 10 comments a week. They all like to blow sunshine up their own and each others asses which from the number of comments they get about real baseball and team issues, is about all they do.
ITD can stick it where the sun doesn’t shine!!!
At least you can speak your mind without being censored here.
I’m surprised I made it in the top ten!
32, interesting stats. Too bad many of the others who use to contribute regularily to ITD have disappeared or been unwilling to post over here.
Why in hell is Carroll still playing? Shouldn’t they be playing Sellers all the time to see if/where he fits in?
I was telling Nellyjune that very thing this morning.
lol quick send Kershaw out in this inning and he could’ve get an easy 20th wins.
Couple more this inning and maybe we can start to relax a little.
Ask and you should recieve and maybe we finally get to see Ely pitch since there is an offday tomorrow.
If Federowictz ( I know I spelled it wrong, but I really don’t care) is Fed-Ex…maybe, Gordon can be Ex-Lax.
Eeewww!! Sounds messy to me.
I guess so….just in one of my moods 😉
Clap….Clap 🙂
There’s a Frank and Ned needing Ex-Lax because they’re full of shit joke in there somewhere, but I just can’t coax it out.
Bear down and grunt my brother. LMAO!!!
Ah christ, think I’ll just pinch it off and move on. 🙂
( 🙂 🙂 )
Reminds me of the old slogan; ‘Take Dulcolax in the pm for a bm in the am.’ 😉
Damn VL. Looks like you really know your shit!!
After the Raiders 4th quarter implosion, it left me in a shitty state of mind. In typical Raider fashion, once again they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory late in the game.
On the bright side though, the Dodgers are winning in a rout, and the Cowboys are down at the moment. . .
LOL!
Looks like batting practice today!
LOL…Vinny is saying,”Come on Chris, get an out!” He’s feeling sorry for their pitcher.
James is going after that patented Ned 3-year contract for a couple months work deal.
LOL!! And you thought Ethier was jealous and pissed about Billzs’ deal. Wow!!!!
I sincerely hope that they concentrate on getting a long term deal done with Kemp. That is the main priority this off season.
O.K., I see things deteriorating around here. The rout is on and I am off. Have a great rest of the day.
You as well Birk!!
They just might implode with you gone, Birk!
Come on Jerry another 3 runs bomb.
WOW! The Texans – Dolphins game is on here. I’ve NEVER seen such a sad turnout for a Phin home game! The blimp shots reveal an almost empty stadium!
Sweet grab, Dee!
Damn, there goes the shut-out!
Oh well, at least it was X-Paul. LOL!!
Who farted Tru? This place cleared out quick.
LOL…I was wondering!
Might have been me. I squeaked out nasty S.B.D. earlier. . .
LOL!!! Cleared out so quick like someone let out one of those beer and Taco Bell bombs.
Must have been the laxative talk earlier I guess. Something was bound to leak out. LOL
Now, you tell me, what other blog talks about this topic?! 😉
It’s why I love it here! I feel like I’m in my element. . .
We all are 🙂
Usually the refernces to vile forms of human and animal excrement in its various physical states (solid, liquid, gaseous) is about the teams play, player performance, Neds dealing, and/or Franks ownership.
I swear I saw paint peeling. . .
LOL!!! Anyone out there familiar with White Castle? Talk about paint peelers. Whewwwwww!!!!
I’m thinking it was the Schlotsky’s sandwich I had for lunch. LOL
Mmmmm, Mmm. Good stuff. On both ends. LOL!!!
LMFAO!!!!
Good for the X-Man though.
Yes it was.
Niners hanging tough against the C’boys!
Loney’s en fuego!
The Cowgirls and the Whiners are having a pretty good match-up for the time being. Sorry about your Raiders. If it makes you feel better, they beat the spread for those of us picking teams based on that.
The defense forgot to show up 2nd half! And all the P/I penalties didn’t help.
Boy!!! You guys are on a roll today – LMAO!!!
LOL!!! We scored a shit load of runs and your mom mentioned Ex-Lax. Something was bound to give.
Just call me the little trouble maker!
I guess so!! Geez!!! I was watching some of the gnats game, and they were having their own slugfest. I’m guessing the Rockies must have gotten the wrong ball bag for this entire series.
Yeah, what the heck happened to the Rox? Alot of people picked them to win the division this year or at least give the G’Aints a run for it. I liked your comment about the bad Kharma the D’Backs created for themselves Nelly.
Well, the DBacks are winning now. However, the gnats won and the Braves lost so the gnats could back door into the playoffs thru a wildcard spot if the Braves implode. The bad thing is the Braves are playing the Phillies their last series. Then you have the Cards in the mix. I know one thing, there are some gnat fans that are going to become Phillies and Dodgers fans for the last week of the season if they want to see October baseball.
Yep. The web is getting very tangled. We just need to win 2 of the 3 from the G’Aints this week and put them out of their/our misery. LOL!!
I’d love for us to put the gnats out of their misery!
It would make my year!
C’mon boys, let’s get hat run back.
Billz might need it.
Jerry’s going to have to do a lot better than that if we don’t want to see Rivera in LF next year.
Yep. Doesn’t really matter what the kids do. Ned will find a worthless, washed up PVL to waste money on and block them.
Anyone know who won the NASCAR race in Chi-town today? I got so wrapped up in the games, I completely forgot about it.
The race is in a rain delay and hasn’t started yet 🙂
Thanks! Sounds like a postponed race. .
Oeltjen’s still on the team eh?
Dildon needs to get Velez into this game now to keep it somewhat entertaining.
He will!
Now, would be the time…with bases loaded!
Oh, well, next inning!
It will be truely cruel if Dildon doesn’t let Velez have a crack at these guys. Geez!!!
Is about time Donny let Ely pitch but to bad it’s a day off tomorrow.
We want Eugenio!!!!
What do you want to bet Ned invites him back to ST next year?
Wouldn’t surprise me. I’m shocked he doesn’t already have Rowland here.
If he does that, we will know for sure, Ned has lost his mind!
We knew that when he signed Schidt. It was confirmed when he signed Cow and Phew. And just so it didn’t slip our minds, he jogged our memory with Uribum and Grrrrearend. Sickening part is, I could go on.
The list would fill an entire page!
Yep, legal size!!!! Groan……….
Your wish was granted!
We have Ely! 😉
There could be a Troncoso sighting today.
Hell, Ely could have done Grrrears job this year just as well or better at a fraction of the cost.
Overtime in Frisco!
LOL!!!!
YAY…HERE COME EUGENIO!
Come on baby, do your thing! Yep, 0 – 33!
Aaaand he’s still a big fat o’fer with the bat!
16 months since Velez had a hit. May 18th, 2010.
So, why the hell is he in the “bigs”?!
Velez’s legend lives on from the Chippewa on down…
Oh the love grows,
Where Eugenio goes,,,,,,
You guys are digging up the musty dusty oldies.
That’s because we are musty dusty oldies. 🙂
I resemble that remark.
Just add crusty!
LOL!!! We go way back.
I am the dustiest oldie 🙂
At least I haven’t pulled out any 30’s or 40’s tunes to parody.
Yet.
Oh, Dildons a joke,
And Frankys broke,
And little Neddys’ team ain’t thriving,
The kids could be thriving too,
Fans are blue…..
Okay…I’m the crustiest, dustiest oldie!
What moron other than Ned wouldn’t have already cut him? That’s 33 wasted ABs. 33 ABs that at the very least could’ve gone to DeJesus to see whether or not he’s got anything.
It has to be because Donnie loves him!
C’boys win. 😦
The end of that game sucked!!!
Not a big Ely fan either. He can be part of a package deal as far as I’m concerned.
So, who are you a fan of? 😉
Besides Kersh & Matt.
Well damn Tru, if you’re gonna make me think I’ll just go home.
Noooooooooo, don’t go home!
Jeez, Ely going for the save…
What? Why let him bat if he’s not going to pitch?
Dildon sucks.
Why sending up a PH in a meanless blowout game lol.
I had a feeling Tronco would show.
Back to .500!!!
Sweet!! I think we can manage 5 and 4 the rest of the way to finish over .500. Especially with Kersh pitching 2 of them.
37,802 paid attendance for Fan Appreciation Day.
Thanks Trumom!!!! What a freaking game.
How many did it look like actually showed up?
Not too bad….maybe 25,000 to 28,000 ….bleachers were still bare.
Wooo Hooo!!! Back to .500!!!
I am watching a special on MLBTV about how scorekeeping and statistics began and it’s history, including how they started using it to scout opposing teams. A number crunchers show for sure.
Ned: “Here’s the list of the guys we’re inviting to spring training.”
Logan White: “I’ve never heard of half of these guys and the ones I do know are way past their prime.”
Kim Ng: “Most of these guys never had a prime.”
Ned: “The fact is we lost our two best players to free agency. We haven’t won a pennant in over thirty-five years, we haven’t placed higher than fourth in the last fifteen. Obviously it’s time for some changes.”
Logan White: “This guy here is dead!”
Ned: “Cross him off, then!”
OK, it wasn’t the Dodgers, it was from Major League. So what?
Although today’s paid numbers broke our 22-game winning streak, it was nevertheless a hideous number for “Fan Appreciation Day” and one that should send shudders through the organization, except that the owner couldn’t care less. Lord, does anyone else remember when this game was a sellout every year?……….in April? Almost 20,000 unsold seats!
