Publicly Stating His Version of the Facts

In a better world, we would solve our economic issues and be done with them, move on to fixing the jobs market and then move onto education and taxes. In a sophisticated world, we would think logically before speaking, using our ideas to come to a better accord. However, these ideals and tasks have been put off for far to long, that now, public perception is neither fix nor cut, but rather a simple GET IT DONE.

What can be said about this American treasure commonly referred to as the Los Angeles Dodgers.? Our perception of this team runs wild from acceptable, to deplorable, insulting and plain horrid. No more is it a fallacy of the times, than it is of the people who head it.

Enter one Frank McCourt. Under better brain capacity, he’d at least consider to notion of stepping down, but it is because of this lack of brain capacity that he still scorns us. He considers us the enemy and he the liberator: a fighter of the people, for the people, per-se. He has previously said many times that the media has misconstrued the truth and that he is the victim. Although there may be some truth to this, and to how we arrived at this point in time and place, he cannot deny the fact that he brought this upon himself. The mere fact that his conniving sickening ways were kept hidden for so long, is a testament to our lack of digging for answers, and using our better judgement and logic before purchasing that $5 hot dog, $7 beer, $15 parking and $5.50 nachos, and asking, what is he doing with all that money.

Now we know better.

So with all this hatred for the man, and the lack of interest in anything he does to try and bring fans around, what more can he do.? In his mind, again, he is the victim, and his story has been tangled in a web of lies. And with that, Frank has taken it upon himself to ask Bankruptcy Court, the court that now controls the financials of the Dodgers, to allow him to hire a PR firm so they can tell his story in his way.

Never mind the fact that people whom work for the Organization are made to sign confidentiality waivers and cannot speak about the intertwines of the Organization after leaving the ball-club, but also attesting to the fact that now former Vice President of Communications left his post to pursue the forthcoming promotion of this title with another club, seems fishy. I mean, wouldn’t portraying the Dodgers and all things related to them fall under one of Josh Rawitch’s duties?

So all alas for Josh, as maybe he was fired, or left of his own free will. But why hire a PR firm whose sole focus will be to negate any story about an owner whom we all have seemed to fall in love with. We all know about the stealing, deception, cut backs, and problems that plague this team, but when will the man whose name falls on the deed ultimately see this whole situation for what it is: a no win situation. I wonder how this PR firm will try to fix that part of his image!

  1. This Day In Dodgers History

    September 18, 2006
The Dodgers, who are last in the National League in homers, hit four consecutive home runs in an inning when Jeff Kent, J.D. Drew, Russell Martin and Marlon Anderson all go deep in the bottom of the ninth to tie the Padres, 9-9. The improbable feat, which had only been accomplished by the 1964 Twins, 1963 Indians and the 1961 Braves, leads to Nomar Garciaparra’s walk-off two-run homer in the tenth and sole possession of first place as the Los Angeles beat the Friars 11-10.

    September 18, 1988
Despite a sore elbow that has plagued him for days, Dodger left-hander John Tudor continues his success after coming to Los Angeles in a trade with St. Louis as he pitches six scoreless innings and picks up the victory in a 2-0 triumph at Cincinnati.
Tudor’s victory increases the Dodgers’ lead in the National League West to a season-high nine games over the second place Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants while reducing L.A.’s magic number to six.

Tudor, acquired in a trade August 16 for Pedro Guerrero, limited the Reds to five hits before giving way to reliever Alejandro Pena, who pitched the final three innings for the Dodgers’ fourth shutout in their past eight games.

A crafty left-hander who relied on a change of speeds for his success, Tudor was instrumental in the Dodgers’ drive to the pennant during their World Championship season as he posted a 4-3 record and 1.91 ERA following the trade.

    September 18, 1984
With a 3-0 victory over Milwaukee, the Tigers clinch the American League East title to become only the fourth team in major league history to lead from start to finish of a season. The other three clubs to accomplish the feat include the 1923 Giants, 1927 Yankees, and the 1955 Dodgers.

    September 18, 1963:
Dick Nen records his only hit as a Dodger, a ninth-inning homer that ties the score at 5-5 in a game Los Angeles eventually won, 6-5, over the Cardinals in 13 innings. The win gives the Dodgers a three-game sweep over St. Louis, which had been threatening L.A.’s lead in the National League. Although that was his only hit, the Dodger players later voted him a $1,000 share of World Series spoils.

Jackie Robinson is named 1947 “Rookie of The Year”

So, let me get this straight. The Bankruptcy Court has been asked if the Dodgers can pay for legal fees and a financial advisor fees (both of which are in the millions of dollars each), and now the bankruptcy court is being asked if the Dodgers can pay for a PR firm. What a crock!!! I bet Josh was clawing to get the hell out.

    • messagebear says:

There’s a highy rated publicity firm here in the Seattle area by the name of Lowenstein Olney Pawitch, more popularly known as LIPSTICK ON PIG, because they’ve been repeatedly used by some tarnished political figures. Sounds like the right choice to me to tackle the McCourt debacle.

    • vl4eccjr says:

This is a crock! Why make a costly futile attempt at damage control after the fact? The damage has been done. The way I see it, there is no way this story can be ‘spun’ to make it seem less FUBAR than it already is. Like the old story goes; “It’s like closing the barn door after the animals have already escaped.” This just makes me despise Frankrupt even more. Once again, this piss poor excuse of a human being thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, and is immune from his crimes. PATHETIC!!!

    Fabulous thread Yunghitters!!!
    .
And thanks for the attendance update Dodgereric!!! The biggest drop off will be 2012 season ticket sales if Frank is still the owner for very much longer,

  5. trublu4ever says:

It is a great thread, Yung. We have a fantastic and unique group of authors here on Outside the Dodgers. Let’s face it, ALL the folks contributing to this blog are special.

  6. vl4eccjr says:

I hope Billz has his shit in one bag today, and he gets some decent run support. If all goes well, they can be a .500 team by the end of the day!

    • trublu4ever says:

When Billz takes the mound, it is a crap-shoot. I find myself more worried when he’s out there than when Lilly is. So, come on Billz, show us why you were given a huge pay day!

  7. 32and53fan says:

    From Mark Cuban’s Facebook feed:

“Just a quick update to people asking whether or not I will buy an NHL/NFL/MLB team. The lesson learned from the failed acquisitions of others is that the end game is not buying a team. The end game is buying a team AND having sufficient money to absorb losses and pay for players and player development.

IMHO, some team sales price are outside the buy and succeed zone. They are in the “cash out the former owners, fans be damned” zone.

    I wont make that mistake.”

    • Nellyjune says:

So, does that mean he won’t touch the Dodgers with a 10 foot pole (as the saying goes)? With the Dodgers paying legal fees, financial advisory fees and now a PR firm possibly, how can the Dodgers afford ANY players of substance? The Dodgers still have players on the books that aren’t playing for them. Plus, they have all these multiple year contracts for players who haven’t given the fans too many things to cheer about, other than when they don’t okay. And there really is no end in sight to this fiasco, as Frank just sits back and watches the rest of MLB and it’s fans squirm.

    • 32and53fan says:

Obviously McCourt had a different end game in mind. Probably turning the rim of the parking lot into a mega-development with luxury high rise residential units and high end retail shops and restaurants.

Even if he is forced to sell, he will walk away with millions in profits even after all of his outrageous attorney and other professional fees are paid. In I way, I admire him. Why couldn’t any of us on OTD with no capital of our own buy the Dodgers for $430 million using other people’s money and sell it seven years later for $1.2 billion? It is like all those real estate infomercials that showed people who started with no money down and within a year had 20 properties with $1.5 million equity. It’s a nice trick if you know how to do it.

Maybe you have to be a ruthless, cutthroat, society-climbing low life to pull off stuff like that.

  8. Five bucks say Carroll can’t drive him in.

  9. trublu4ever says:

    Woo-Hoo!

  10. trublu4ever says:

We need lots & lot of runs to protect us from Billz!

  11. JhallWally says:

    Jerrrrrrrrrrrrry!!!!!

  12. Double or nothing says Billz will give some of it back this inning.

  13. lbirken says:

I have not seen a report that the Dodgers want to hire a PR firm but it shouldn’t surprise anyone. Hopefully the court will see the waste of money such an expense would be since the outcome doesn’t mean a darn thing. All it proves is what Yung already concluded; Frank lives in some dream world and those around him either do too or they are just chasing the gravy train to the bitter end. Most of what we know about the McCourts came out in the divorce and bankruptcy courts. Even if the McCourts have done nothing illegal, what they have done has been terribly selfish and detrimental to something Frank himself called a stewardship: control of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Frank blames MLB for forcing him into bankruptcy by not allowing him to mortgage more of the future by agreeing to a deal with FOX. The money drain started a long time ago and clearly the divorce made things worse. As fans, we don’t care the team made the playoffs and actually won two playoff series under McCourt because of all this other crap. The organization is certainly worse off now than two years ago. Yes, the economy has something to do with a decline in revenues but good business practices might have kept the team more solvent. The only thing that we can all agree with is that Frank needs the broadcast deal to stay solvent, pay his bills and pay Jamie. A PR firm is not going to change anything.

    • JhallWally says:

Exactly!! No PR campaign can undo the gross mismanagement that has left the Dodgers foreseeable future in serious jeopardy. Letting Frank sell off TV rights from 2 years in the future to pay the debts he created in the last 5 years by mismanagement and greed is simply bullshit.

Frank talks about being misunderstood and unfairly treated. How fair is it for him to basically renege on his deal with Fox now.

  14. trublu4ever says:

Amazing…ever since the Dbacks left L.A. they can’t score any runs. Meanwhile, the gnats are tearing it up!

  15. JhallWally says:

I think Loney has all but locked up a contract for next season. In fact, I think we are pretty much looking at the team we will have next year.

  16. trublu4ever says:

    J-E-R-R-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Think that might be enough for Billz?

  18. JhallWally says:

Wah-Hoo Jerrrrrrry!!! Sands may have Billz-proofed this game. Of course that leaves Grrrrearend, Hawkshit, and McDooDoo.

  19. With all the crap pitching you get in September, its hard to gauge how Sands is really doing.

32, interesting stats. Too bad many of the others who use to contribute regularily to ITD have disappeared or been unwilling to post over here.

  22. Why in hell is Carroll still playing? Shouldn’t they be playing Sellers all the time to see if/where he fits in?

  23. nedisajerk says:

lol quick send Kershaw out in this inning and he could’ve get an easy 20th wins.

  24. Couple more this inning and maybe we can start to relax a little.

  25. trublu4ever says:

If Federowictz ( I know I spelled it wrong, but I really don’t care) is Fed-Ex…maybe, Gordon can be Ex-Lax.

  26. trublu4ever says:

    Looks like batting practice today!

  27. James is going after that patented Ned 3-year contract for a couple months work deal.

    • JhallWally says:

LOL!! And you thought Ethier was jealous and pissed about Billzs’ deal. Wow!!!!

I sincerely hope that they concentrate on getting a long term deal done with Kemp. That is the main priority this off season.

  28. lbirken says:

O.K., I see things deteriorating around here. The rout is on and I am off. Have a great rest of the day.

  29. nedisajerk says:

Come on Jerry another 3 runs bomb.

  30. vl4eccjr says:

WOW! The Texans – Dolphins game is on here. I’ve NEVER seen such a sad turnout for a Phin home game! The blimp shots reveal an almost empty stadium!

  35. Nellyjune says:

Boy!!! You guys are on a roll today – LMAO!!!

    • JhallWally says:

LOL!!! We scored a shit load of runs and your mom mentioned Ex-Lax. Something was bound to give.

      • trublu4ever says:

Just call me the little trouble maker!

      • Nellyjune says:

I guess so!! Geez!!! I was watching some of the gnats game, and they were having their own slugfest. I’m guessing the Rockies must have gotten the wrong ball bag for this entire series.

        • JhallWally says:

Yeah, what the heck happened to the Rox? Alot of people picked them to win the division this year or at least give the G’Aints a run for it. I liked your comment about the bad Kharma the D’Backs created for themselves Nelly.

          • Nellyjune says:

Well, the DBacks are winning now. However, the gnats won and the Braves lost so the gnats could back door into the playoffs thru a wildcard spot if the Braves implode. The bad thing is the Braves are playing the Phillies their last series. Then you have the Cards in the mix. I know one thing, there are some gnat fans that are going to become Phillies and Dodgers fans for the last week of the season if they want to see October baseball.

          • JhallWally says:

Yep. The web is getting very tangled. We just need to win 2 of the 3 from the G’Aints this week and put them out of their/our misery. LOL!!

          • trublu4ever says:

I’d love for us to put the gnats out of their misery!

          • vl4eccjr says:

            It would make my year!

  36. C’mon boys, let’s get hat run back.

    Billz might need it.

  37. Jerry’s going to have to do a lot better than that if we don’t want to see Rivera in LF next year.

  38. vl4eccjr says:

Anyone know who won the NASCAR race in Chi-town today? I got so wrapped up in the games, I completely forgot about it.

  39. Oeltjen’s still on the team eh?

  40. JhallWally says:

Dildon needs to get Velez into this game now to keep it somewhat entertaining.

  41. JhallWally says:

It will be truely cruel if Dildon doesn’t let Velez have a crack at these guys. Geez!!!

  42. JhallWally says:

    We want Eugenio!!!!

  43. vl4eccjr says:

There could be a Troncoso sighting today.

  44. JhallWally says:

Hell, Ely could have done Grrrears job this year just as well or better at a fraction of the cost.

  45. vl4eccjr says:

    Overtime in Frisco!

  46. trublu4ever says:

    YAY…HERE COME EUGENIO!

  47. JhallWally says:

16 months since Velez had a hit. May 18th, 2010.

  48. Velez’s legend lives on from the Chippewa on down…

  49. What moron other than Ned wouldn’t have already cut him? That’s 33 wasted ABs. 33 ABs that at the very least could’ve gone to DeJesus to see whether or not he’s got anything.

  50. vl4eccjr says:

    C’boys win. 😦

  51. Not a big Ely fan either. He can be part of a package deal as far as I’m concerned.

  52. Jeez, Ely going for the save…

  53. vl4eccjr says:

I had a feeling Tronco would show.

  54. trublu4ever says:

  56. Nellyjune says:

I am watching a special on MLBTV about how scorekeeping and statistics began and it’s history, including how they started using it to scout opposing teams. A number crunchers show for sure.

  57. dodgereric says:

Ned: “Here’s the list of the guys we’re inviting to spring training.”

Logan White: “I’ve never heard of half of these guys and the ones I do know are way past their prime.”

Kim Ng: “Most of these guys never had a prime.”

Ned: “The fact is we lost our two best players to free agency. We haven’t won a pennant in over thirty-five years, we haven’t placed higher than fourth in the last fifteen. Obviously it’s time for some changes.”

Logan White: “This guy here is dead!”

    Ned: “Cross him off, then!”

OK, it wasn’t the Dodgers, it was from Major League. So what?

Although today’s paid numbers broke our 22-game winning streak, it was nevertheless a hideous number for “Fan Appreciation Day” and one that should send shudders through the organization, except that the owner couldn’t care less. Lord, does anyone else remember when this game was a sellout every year?……….in April? Almost 20,000 unsold seats!
