We found out

On Tuesday night, Gerardo Parra hit a home run, then paused before running the bases just a little too long to suit the Dodgers.  The home run followed a previous at bat by Parra in which he had to duck an errant throw from Hong-Chih Kuo.   A.J. Ellis yelled “You’re better than that.” to Parra after his showboat antics when he crossed the plate.  Clayton Kershaw went ballistic in the dugout and traded shouts with D’backs pitcher Daniel Hudson, who at some point asked Kershaw what he would do about the situation.  “You’ll find out!  You’ll find out!”, came the heated reply from Kershaw, well within earshot of hundreds of fans, players, coaches and umpires.

Last night, leading in the 6th inning 2-0, Kershaw threw a pitch several inches inside to Parra, nicking him on his elbow.  Home plate umpire Bill Welke immediately ejected Clayton from the game.  While Rod Barajas and Kershaw were arguing about that decision in disbelief, Don Mattingly emerged from the dugout just about as angry as he has been this season and argued the case.  Soon however, he crossed a line and was also tossed from the game.  It was highly unusual that Kershaw was thrown out of the game since there were no prior warnings given.

Rookie pitcher Josh Lindblom hurriedly warmed up then took over the pitching duties, determined to hold the lead for Kershaw.  Lindblom made 29 pitches while striking out five batters in two innings.  He was removed for pinch hitter Trent Oeltjen in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Nathan Eovaldi and Kenley Jansen followed with solid performances and the Dodgers won 3-2.

Despite his ejection, Kershaw improved his standing in the race for the Cy Young Award by winning his 19th game and throwing five shutout innings and striking out five.  Welke’s poor judgement robbed Kershaw of the chance to pitch more scoreless innings and build up his strikeout total, further improving his Cy Young chances.

Tony Jackson has more on this event and the reactions from Kershaw, Mattingly and umpiring chief, Tim Tschida in his column.

Today’s probable starters are Dana Eveland, 2-0, 0.60 ERA going against the Pirate’s Ross Ohlendorf, 0-2, 8.03 ERA.

I waited until the new thread so all could see the big figure day…….but first, a public service announcement:

I’m very proud of what Kersh did tonight. He waited until he qualified for the win, he nicked the little shithead enough to send a message, he didn’t go for the head or even a solid back shot, so I really don’t think he’ll get any suspension to harm the Cy shot. He can still drill him next year if he needs to get anything more out of his system. I’ll be very embarrassed if he doesn’t get a big standing “O” by the 9,000 or so in attendance for his last home start in 2011.

MLB should look at both of Parra’s at bats against Kersh tonight. If memory serves, in AB#1, Kersh broke out 0-2. Then he sent a very professional up-and-in pitch, standard for an 0-2 pitch. If they look at the location for that pitch and compare it to the one that grazed Parra, they’re not too far apart. To declare that the pitch was intentionally thrown to hit him and the first one was not is not possible in a rational world. Just another piece of evidence that Major League Umpires need to step down their perception of their own importance. As I’ve said before, the paying customers pay to see pitchers pitch, batters bat and fielders field. Never, I mean never does anyone pay to see an umpire ump. Maybe their mothers, but no one else. Let the players play, you’re part of the field.

    • yay!!..

Honestly, I think we might be closer to the 1 mil figure but your stats are better than anyones..Only Frank, the machines, Vin and MLB know the true #’s…

But in all respects, Pairless (Parra) deserved it. The pissfuckin’ ass raping cuntbag deserved what he got, and still does. I hope Kersh gets him again next time out, and ends up getting in a fight with that piece of shit Pairless..Kersh takes a cleat to Pairless’ face and has him answer his question about how fast he should step off of it..

Kersh did what any of us would of done, and Mattingly grew a pair and stood up for his pitcher. We all know on this team, Kersh has the biggest pair, and more so with wimp Billz not even sniffing the inside plate after something like that might happen to him.

Great for Kersh and even if he gets a fine and suspension, ill help pay for it and ill invite him over to my house so he could have a BBQ or something so he could celebrate a job well done.

PISSFUCK ASS RAPING CUNTBAG CAN SUCK A BIG FAT ONE!!

Kersh still got his win so Daniel Hudson can lick it..

      GO DODGERSSS GOOO!!

  2. trublu4ever says:

I agree with Dodgereric. The umpires, especially this year, have been putrid. I watch a lot of baseball and, they have sunk to a new low. When are they going to learn to simply do the job and not be the center of the game? By rules, a strike is a strike if it crosses the area….not, this umpire won’t call a low or high strike or give you a corner! As for the Kersh ejection…neither side was warned before the game started so, it was totally uncalled for at that moment. That fool could, and still may, cause Kersh to lose his chances for the Cy Young award. What a piece of shit! Torre, being in charge of the umpires, should do something about the crap tha has happened all season.

I know if Lilly were pitching, he would have drilled Parra….granted, he probably would’t have felt it, but the deed would have been done!

  3. selltheteam says:

Kershaw is THE man. I’ve had a lot of respect for him already. Especially this spring when I read that he was still striving to get better. That’s inspiring – no matter how good you are, keep trying to get better. That’s the Kershaw way.

This latest incident shows how much integrity he has – that he’s in it as a team player, and not just chasing his own individual awards. Here’s a good write up from Tim Brown:

“Going inside was the right move for Kershaw”

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-brown_kershaw_ejected_dodgers_hero_091411

  4. Agree with you all…KERSHAW is the man. He is the pitcher we have been waiting for. The ump made a mistake by throwing Kershaw…but hey Kersh sent out a big message to them all out there….DON’T FUCK WITH ME!
    *
Last night’s game was amazing and I was thrill to see our boys in blue give it all they can to stay in the run….THEY WANT THIS! THEY WANT “THE” RING! THEY WANT THE Cy YOUNG AWARD FOR KERSHAW! AND THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR IT ALL! LET’S GO DODGERS.

  5. Some of us compare Kid K to koufax, well after last night, perhaps we will be comparing him to Drysdale.
He is that good, that he can throw the ball on a players elbow! (yea, for the intentional HBP). Perhaps, if he wasn’t so demonstrative on Tuesday’s game, he would of had a warning rather than the ejection. Doesn’t really matter, except for a few more Ks, a really inspired game by the boys in blue. The ump is out of his league, and I really can’t call Kersh “Kid K” anymore, He grew up this season, especially this game. Kudos! Perhaps Parra’s hurt elbow was why he airmailed the throw home to allow Kemp to score.

  6. Kid K will Kersh. But I’m starting to thinK that all pitchers need to have a “K” on their name: Koufax, Kuroda, Kuo, Kershaw…

  7. dodgereric says:

This whole thing reminds me of a story I once heard/read, and I think it was a Satchel Paige story. It’s said that he hit a guy once and he started complaining about it. Satch said something like, “If you didn’t like that one, wait until you get the next one.” And then he drilled him even harder.

  8. I think with that one pitch last night Kershaw has totally arrived as an “ace.” Team first, glory second. Finally, somebody on the team who [to coin a phrase from JoJo] actually “gets it.”

  9. selltheteam says:

Next Year’s Lineup is Tonight’s Lineup

    Gordon ss
    Sellers 2b
    Kemp cf

    Mitchell 3b
    Federowicz c
    Eveland p

  10. lbirken says:

I think everyone has overreacted to Parra but my guess is the Dodgers did not like a Punch and Judy hitter like him watching the ball leave the park. If Kemp had done the same thing, I wonder if anyone would say anything because he is expected to hit them like that. Parra is not. However, I have to agree with everyone else that right or wrong, Kershaw showed us all something we suspected but did not know for sure: he has arrived

  11. lbirken says:

On another more interesting note, my wife called me today and asked me if I wanted to say hello to Wally Moon. It turns out Wally was in the L.A. area promoting his new book and my wife heard where he was going to be today. I had heard him interviewed by Rick Monday on the pre game show the other day and enjoyed listening to him. He was kind enough to talk to me for a few moments and I got a chance to tell him I was at the game in August, 1959 at the Coliseum when Koufax struck out 18 Giants hitters and Wally hit one of his Moonshots over the screen in left field to win that game. He told me that was one of more memorable moments from his career and he seemed to get a kick out of the fact I told him I saw him do it. I will add his autographed book to my collection.

  12. JhallWally says:

Wow, what a game last night. Probably the most butt puckering blood boiling game of the year. Gonna be interesting to see when the next shoe falls in the Pussarra saga. I don’t believe we’ve seen or heard the last of this whole episode.

Anyway, I think last nights win was not only imperitive to maintaining Kershs’ CY hopes, but also our shot at .500.

13 games to go against 4 teams, 3 of which aren’t that good. We need to go 8-5. I like our chances. GO DODGERS!!!!!

  13. JhallWally says:

Thanks again to Dad/Eric for the latest attendance statistics. Now over 600K in paid attendance drop from last season. And I would be willing to bet that actual attendance is now down over a million. I noticed that the McCourts are selling off houses now to pay the bills. Keep up the boycott Dodger faithful. I know it hurts you, but it is hurting old Frank alot more.

  14. JhallWally says:

And, I guess the big news tonight is the long awaited and anticipated Federwhatever starting debue. I hope this kid pans out.

  15. trublu4ever says:

According to the L.A. Times, Major League Baseball is reviewing the Kershaw incident. I don’t understand this one bit. I could possibly see it if he would have thown at his head. I think this is total bullshit!

  16. grizzy says:

lbirken-good story about Wally Moon. I got to see him play in the coliseum, but none of his “shots’. He did a good job for us.

  17. Let’s go baby Blue!

  18. trublu4ever says:

    TATTOO!!!!!

  19. JhallWally says:

Nice job Sellers. Shitty AB by Kemp.

  20. trublu4ever says:

    Crap!

  21. JhallWally says:

    Well isn’t that just fucking wonderful? ( | )~~~Splat

  22. Ker-plop!!

The real Dana Eveland surfaces. Hope no one was counting on him really doing anything. There but for the grace of God goes Lilly.

  23. JhallWally says:

Rats!! If we don’t take 3 of 4 from Pittsburgh at home, I don’t think we will make it back to .500. We should be able to light this Olendorf guy up. His ERA is over freaking 8.

    C’mon Dildon, bring in Ely.

  24. I think Eveland was sleeping there.

  25. trublu4ever says:

They are doing a good job of hitting opposing batters!

  26. JhallWally says:

This is the kind of game that isn’t worth listening to once they switch from Vin to Steiner after the 3rd inning.

  27. Don’t understand why Sands isn’t playing right – Rivera is something of a liability, as he just proved.

  28. Nellyjune says:

I am currently watching the gnats and Rox game. That game is no fun to watch either.

  29. JhallWally says:

Woo-Hoo!! Russ Mitchell with a love letter for Beav. LOL!!!

  30. trublu4ever says:

Finally..we get another run! A shot by Mitchell!!

  31. trublu4ever says:

    And, batting for Eveland…eugenio4ever!

  32. JhallWally says:

Good freaking grief. 0 for 32.

  33. JhallWally says:

Crap!!! Dildon is unbelievable. Why in the name of heaven would you even consider pinch hitting Velez.

  34. JhallWally says:

Not impressed with Kemp, Rivera, and Loney tonight either.
This Olendorf comes in here with and ERA over 8 and breezes thru our lineup for 6 innings with only 60 pitches. Our guys are mailing it in tonight.

  35. trublu4ever says:

Have I mentioned that I hate GrrRear?!

  36. JhallWally says:

Well, what slim chance we had of rallying and winning this game just went out the window with Grrrrearend!!!

  37. trublu4ever says:

    25,381…paid attendance 😉

  38. JhallWally says:

Good thing Dildon saved all his decent pinch hitters.

  39. JhallWally says:

Well, Beav will be happy. His boy Mitchell got a jack. LOL!!

  40. trublu4ever says:

Oh, well. At least they made it interesting at the end.

  41. JhallWally says:

Crap!!! So we lose to a guy who hasn’t won a game since July of 2010. What a stinker of a game.

  42. lbirken says:

Look at the bright side of tonight’s game. Federowicz got his first major league hit and Velez is still 0 for 2011.

  43. JhallWally says:

Just read that Kersh won’t be suspended. MLB basically admitting the ump made a mistake. That, and they probably don’t want him to get pushed back and start against the D’Backs again this year.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dodgers/2011/09/clayton-kershaw-will-not-be-suspended-for-hitting-gerardo-parra.html

    • That’s pretty much what I expected when Tru told me that JoJo was part of the review process. Glad they recognized that Kersh was just doing his job and that the ump was too quick on the trigger.

  44. dodgereric says:

I’m guessing that survey was put out by Selig’s people. I cannot imagine the owner caring a tinker’s damn.
