Another rat jumps off the sinking ship

Rats leaving the Dodgers

Josh Rawitch, Dodgers Vice President of Communications, will leave the Dodgers at the end of the season for the position of Sr. Vice President of Communications for the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He will join the staff of his former boss, Derrick Hall, the former Dodger VP of Communications who is now the President of the Diamondbacks.  Rawitch follows Joe Torre and Kim Ng as members of Dodgers management who have left the organization recently on their own volition.

This Day in Dodgers History

September 13, 1925 – In the first game of a twin bill, Robins’ (Dodgers) starter Dazzy Vance no-hits the Phillies at Ebbets Field, 10-1. The Brooklyn hurler had one-hit the team from the City of Brotherly Love five days earlier.

September 13, 2005 – During the six-run second inning uprising by San Diego, each Dodger outfielder commits an error. The fielding of Ricky Ledee (lf) , Jose Cruz Jr. (rf) and Jayson Werth (cf) contributes to the 6-4 loss to the first place Padres.

Everyone is leaving except the big rat and his minion!

  2. trublu4ever says:

Just wondering if ITD will just fade into the sunset or, will Josh get somebody else to run it? Except for the fact that ITD is where most of us met, I really don’t care. I like this blog much better.

    • I’m pretty sure that Josh left a memo to whoever will take over the media aspect of his job and told them to run for their lives now..

I’m sure Josh is a good person but leaving now, without the season ending, and without a final goodbye address is making me feel a bit jisted.

  3. messagebear says:

As you might know, I’m not one who’s cut Josh any slack, but I’m glad that he’s showing some good common sense and seizing that new opportunity. I only wish that he could step out of the spin zone and call Frank and Ned what they are – real ratfucking bastards. Seeing as he’s got to stay within the MLB fraternity, I’ll understand that he can’t do that. Good luck to you, Josh. I’ll still pretend like I know what you’re really thinking.

  4. selltheteam says:

Excellent illustration to go with your write-up, 32! I’m thinking that Ethier and Kemp will be following the rat-race down the same life-line as soon as they can!

Thanks, It took me longer that I thought it would to change the text. I really need to learn how my photo editor program works so I can do this kind of stuff without trial and error.

  5. koufax1963 says:

Josh was in a tough position, i think he is good guy, bringing OBF to LA from NY, was a good thing, I hope it was genuinely done rather than a promo stunt.
Taking 2/3 from the gnats was more than I thought, although I wanted this team to lose 100 games, colletti to be fired and mcCourt to be ousted before season ends. Donnie still hasn’t convinced me he can manage in the bigs, he takes kuroda out for kou on sunday, and perhaps the worst was letting kou start the next inning. Then he pulls lilly mid-count for relief, let the veteran pitcher finish the inning, Hindsight I know, but it may of been better than jerking lilly, professional courtesy?

  6. No worries STT. Frank can’t contact reality, and Velez can’t contact anything.

Here’s some news that will help to sink Frank’s ship….

Bryan Stow’s medical bills to top $50M

  9. Hi OTD
I commented on Josh’s leaving on the last thread but I don’t mind repeating how much I appreciated the fact that he went all out for me to get to LA, by making all the arrangements.
It’s sad that he’s leaving and I wish him the best of luck.
Billingsley has a real challenge ahead of him tonight trying to win against former Yankee Ian Kennedy looking for his 20th win.
GO DODGERS…even if it helps the Giants.

    • 32and53fan says:

Both Josh and Frank deserve props for bringing you here.

For all the vitriol reserved for Frank McCourt, he should get credit for the good things he has done for the fans. He paid your expenses to make your Dodger dream come true and made a special visit to you in the stands during the game. He hung around after the Dodger’s got their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to meet and shake the hands of fans. Vin Scully wouldn’t even do that. (It was 100 degrees that day and with his fair skin, Vinny did not want to turn into a lobster, so I don’t really blame him.) Frank did a lot more meet and greet with fans than either of the O’Malleys.

That being said, Frank – sell the team, settle the accounts with your creditors, attorneys and Jamie, and just go away.

  10. trublu4ever says:

Thank-you, Jerry for saving Billz’ ass for now!

  11. trublu4ever says:

I was going to give Chad at least 3 innings to implode….I didn’t think it would start from the 1st.

  12. trublu4ever says:

Way to go Dee & Justin!

  13. trublu4ever says:

    Jerry!!!

  14. vl4eccjr says:

Nothing like a two out rally!
Hope they keep pouring it on Kennedy!

  15. JhallWally says:

    OK!! Settle down Billz!!!

  16. I’m officially on board with bringing Loney back for next year. Whatever Hansen’s doing is working. If James can get 35-40 doubles and 12-15 HR along with his D, there are bigger fish to fry on this club than worrying about replacing 1B too.

  17. Billz on the otherhand needs more than what Bunnynutts provides.

  18. nedisajerk says:

I hate the Red Sox but WTG Wakefield on 200th career wins. He has been trying for a long time and finally got it.

  19. Nellyjune says:

Watching the gnats game is like being at the zoo!!! They are all dressed like giraffes and panda bears, and if they aren’t dressed like them, they actually have the stuffed animals. Then there is those wearing those gawd awful beards. Oh my geez!!!!

  20. trublu4ever says:

Mark Grace was a pretty decent ball player but, he is a shitty announcer!

  21. Another rally? Let’s go Dodgers!!

  22. trublu4ever says:

    6th inning….Billz is probably done!

  23. trublu4ever says:

    WTF, Donnie…NOT KUO!

  24. The roller coaster ride is about to begin. Make sure your trays are in the upright position and that your seat belts are properly fastened.

  25. Come on, guys. Let’s get a rally going.

  26. Nellyjune says:

    Oh goodness gracious!!!! Oooochie mama!!!

  27. trublu4ever says:

    Parra is a prick!

  28. trublu4ever says:

Kenley & Javy did great….now, let’s beat them in the bottom of 9th! GO DODGERS!

  29. vl4eccjr says:

DAMN! So much for a walk off. Extras.

  30. trublu4ever says:

I know you guys love Gordon but, lately he is reminding me of Juanpy!

  31. nedisajerk says:

I hate the Yankees but WTG Rivera on #600.

  32. vl4eccjr says:

    Ball twelve! Thar she blows!

  33. &&& That’s the gamee….

Guerra is lost && Mattingly is nowhere to be seen..

    ughhh..

  34. JhallWally says:

    Dildon is a freaking moron.

  35. 32and53fan says:

Time to be a hero Barajas.

  36. and that’s the gameee….

  37. JhallWally says:

Crap!! Tough loss. Crummy way to lose a ballgame. I can’t believe he left Guerra in for 2 innings. Of course, aside from Jansen we don’t really have another reliable reliever. At least Kennedy didn’t get the win and the G’Aints can’t gain any ground. .500 hopes are slipping away.

Kersh will get’em tomorrow for #19.

  38. Kuo needs to be shut down..
    Billz also..

No need to have em in there again

  39. vl4eccjr says:

Hurts to lose like that. 😦

  40. Nellyjune says:

The gnats are tied with the Padres right now 🙂

  41. Nellyjune says:

I get the distinct pleasure of suffering thru both games. Dodgers when they don’t win and the Gnats all the time, win or lose.

  42. trublu4ever says:

Dodgereric ~ this is for you: Mondays Paid Attendance: 30,616 Tonights: 31,404

  43. dodgereric says:

I, for one, hope that Kersh sticks Parra’s dick in the dirt next year, not tomorrow night. No way should he put his 20-win season in jeopardy.

Here’s a nice article on Josh’s departure from Howard Cole’s Dodger blog in the OC Register:

    http://dodgers.ocregister.com/2011/09/13/my-lunch-with-josh/

Those of you who were there will recognize the photo as one taken during “The Tour”. I see D4 in the back at the right and northstate back left. Isn’t that Rose close in to Josh? Forgive me, I’ve forgotten already.

I’ve decided to put quotation marks around 2011 “attendance” figures, since they’re not accurate in the least. At the very least, they should be honest and say “tickets sold”. There seemed to be more people there tonight, but last night was laughable.

I see that Howard used the picture I took of Josh and the ITD group for his blog. I wonder if he found it using the link I put on this blog?

That was a fun day. From our lunch at Phlippes, I know there is a family connection with you and Nellyjune and Tru among others. We didn’t really get too much time to get to know each other that day. That is why ITD and now OTD is so great. It gives us a place to just chat with each other on a daily basis.

  44. Nellyjune says:

Your memory served you correctly. That is Rosie :). Thanks for the link!!! Awesome article!!
