Dodgers Play Doubleheader Today…Maybe

With Wednesday’s game being cancelled, then uncancelled, then finally cancelled again on account of rain, the Dodgers and Nationals will play a traditional doubleheader today, weather permitting.  And with a 50% chance of rain today at game time, that is a big PERMITTING.

Game 1 will begin at 10:05 a.m. PT. The second game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. The probable starters for the Dodgers are Dana Eveland in Game 1 and Chad Billingsley in the nightcap.

Third baseman Juan Uribe underwent surgery to repair a left sports hernia Wednesday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Craig Smith, and Uribe will be able to start rehab within the next two weeks.

Sports hernia symptoms include groin pain along the low abdomen where the abdominal muscles connect with the pelvis and leg. Unlike a true hernia, there is no bulging. A sports hernia is a tear or weakness in these muscles.

Unlike most sports injuries that can be diagnosed easily, there are no diagnostic tests to detect a sports hernia. A misdiagnosis by a doctor unfamiliar with sports hernia symptoms can lead to chronic groin pain and unnecessary delay in returning to athletic competition. It is best diagnosed by a specialist familiar with sports hernia who treats athletes with groin pain on a regular basis.

This Day in Dodgers History

September 8, 1955 – The Dodgers clinch their eighth National League pennant with a 10-2 victory over the Braves at Milwaukee’s County Stadium. Brooklyn’s 17-game lead makes it the earliest date that a team has captured a flag in baseball history.

  1. Here’s to wishful thinking and a history making rainout, thus making it a tripple header or a double header on the 19th or 29th..91 years since the last Tripple Header?

    Let’s make history Dodgers!!

I really do hope we are rained out today. I want the decision to come early….I want our guys in SF early enough to get some rest before we dismantle the gnats this weekend.

    • selltheteam says:

Priorities, priorities. I, too, would like to beat up on the Gnats and take second place away from them. But first, I’d like Kemp to hit a couple taters. If they don’t get the games in today, they won’t likely make them up. Kemp has a better chance of getting to 40/40 by playing 162 games than by playing just 160 games. Just my opinion.

  3. trublu4ever says:

I have finally figured out how to be bold & beautiful 😉

  4. nedisajerk says:

    Gordon SS
    Loney 1B
    Kemp CF
    Rivera RF
    Miles 3B
    Sands LF
    Barajas C
    Sellers 2B
    Billingsley P

  5. nedisajerk says:

Get well Ethier guess it time to called up Hoffmann.

  6. selltheteam says:

WTG Rivera! Hurry up and get these games in. It will be raining soon.

  7. 32and53fan says:

The 2011 Dodgers may be out of the pennant chase, but their forerunners the Brooklyn Bridegrooms were in one of the tightest races in baseball history in 1889 against the St. Louis Browns (now the Cardinals).

The two teams started September deadlocked in the then Major League American Association, and the race went down to the final day of the season in early October. The race included one of the most bizarre and controversial games in baseball history, when the two teams battled in what one sportswriter called “The Frankenstein and Lobster Game” that sparked a near riot at Brooklyn’s Washington Park on Sept. 8, 1889. Check it out to see the weird things that happened on that day.

Fans can follow the race with daily reports at the website http://www.brooklyndodgershistory.com. They are based on the book, When the Dodgers Were Bridegrooms, by Ronald G. Shafer.

  8. selltheteam says:

Deja vu all over again! Rivera gets the job done again!

  9. messagebear says:

I fear we’ve seen the last of Andre in a Dodger uniform. The bad press and feelings with the front office will end this relationship in the off-season. For those who wonder about DeJesus status, I think he will be gone too. Rmember the fiasco with Abreu a couple of years ago concerning his supposed injury, which Ned did not believe. Doesn’t really matter that Abreu didn’t turn out to be such a hot prospect; the front office just didn’t want him around after that episode, and I see this repeating itself with both Andre and DeJesus. Good luck, Andre. I think you’ll make some team happy in the years ahead. DeJesus – who cares; he kind of had his chance, but din’t really make it.

What we do know is that Conte is an absolute failure and Ned an absolute asshole. What a PAIR! Only Frank would have such a tandem.

  10. grizzy says:

It’s already been pointed out, but I’m also hoping for a down pour so our guys can be fresh in SF.

Just checked and we’re up 4-0. A couple of more innings and then the rain. Right now theses games do not mean much in the standings, but I really want to finish at .500

  11. vl4eccjr says:

    Nice going Billz! WTF?!!!

  12. The wheels fell off Bills’ wagon. Hate when that happens 😦

  13. selltheteam says:

Crapheads! Billz is done – put a fork in him!

  14. koufax1963 says:

Oh this does not bode well for fridays game. Seems like our BP will be spent after today. Kid K has to pitch a complete game, yikes.
The Dre thing should not of happened. Conte is a jerk. I don’t know how the communication goes between the trainer/ team/ and mgmt, but it sucks.
Not sure Dre really wants to be a dodger next year, I hope he does because I think he has alot more to contribute. I doubt Lopes will be back either, I echo the sentiment of Message bear, that colletti and Mc Court don’t like to be confronted. Bills just doesn’t have anything on his fastball, hence to the first sentence.

  15. trublu4ever says:

    Glad you are okay, Tattoo!

  16. messagebear says:

Billz is really just a mediocre 3rd or 4th on any decent pitching staff. No wonder Ned would pick him to sign to an extended contract. I would rather have him than not have him, but I don’t expect much more than a .500 type pitcher and certainly not one to make impact in any playoffs.

  17. trublu4ever says:

I don’t mean to be cruel but, Werth has to be the ugliest player in the bigs! He makes my skin crawl….yuck!

  18. koufax1963 says:

Oh NO, here we go, it kou! Can donnie really manage a bull pen, especially when the starter doesn’t go 3 innings. and may have to do it for second game the same day. Notice no question marks for these rhetorical questions. Instead of spahn and sain, Ill just pray for rain

  19. Mattingley doesn’t understand the double switch. Why did he take out the hottest hitter we have in the line-up? He consistently does this and IT DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

  20. trublu4ever says:

    Great…now, it rains!

  21. nedisajerk says:

I love the bullpen work but Donny is crazy and we should’ve had 2 less relievers not used in this game so far.

  22. trublu4ever says:

    Ugh…Piles pops out!

  23. koufax1963 says:

Extra innings is NOT what the dodgers need

  24. koufax1963 says:

Just thinking, did we call up more from AAA,to compensate for Blake and ethier being out, especially with two games today? if not Velez will be put in to PH for the game

  25. trublu4ever says:

    YAY!!!

  26. vl4eccjr says:

    Awesome! WTG Gwynn!!!

  27. vl4eccjr says:

WOW! Gordon’s having quite a game!!!

  28. JhallWally says:

    Alright Gordo, 4 for 5!!!!

  29. nedisajerk says:

Calling up Dejesus and Hoffmann no reason to have Velez here.

  30. koufax1963 says:

Unreal, so far our BP has no hit the Nats.
and Barajas scores from first, lets make “Brad” werth look bad

  31. selltheteam says:

    WTG, Gwynn and Gordon!

  32. selltheteam says:

This team plays with a lot more gusto now that some of the detritus has been swept aside – Navarro and Uribe. Now if we could just get rid of Stan, Ned, and Frank.

    • I’d go for Velez first, then if Uribe falls off along the dirt road path to the finish line, so much better.

    • JhallWally says:

No doubt. We’re gonna be stuck with Frank for awhile now that he’s got things tied up in our slow moving court system. The best way to make this team alot better immediately is to fire Ned. I would also send Conte packing along with him.

      • Jhall, would you respect Frank if he did indeed fire Ned Colleti and Stan Conte?

it’s a question that begs to offer some insight..

would Dodger fans say Thank You Frank, for firing Ned, or would it be pissing in the public troughs where everything just mixes together and nothing is seperable..

        sorry for the sickening analogy

        • koufax1963 says:

I would be less harsh on Mcbroke if he did 1 of 3 things, hopefully all, 1. Can Colletti
along with Conte 2. put some $$$ forth for getting good players 3. selling the team on his own volition

        • JhallWally says:

As I have no respect for Frank right now, I would respect the decision to finally shitcan Ned. It is long overdue. As Koufax63 pointed out, I would gain a small amount of respect for Frank the man if he did back off and sell the team and all entities of his own accord.
Right now however, I believe that Ned is and has been a bigger problem and holds the team back on the field more than Frank.

          • I remember about a year or so ago when I started asking about why Conte was still on this team. And then, I received my answer in the form of Ned still having a job.

Frank has been bent over and has repeatedly been taking it up the rear by his ex- wife and Ned & Stan Corp. wasting money.

I wonder which one hurts more..

            lol..

            😉

          • JhallWally says:

I would have a little sympathy for Frank, but, he brought all this on himself.

  33. trublu4ever says:

    J-A-V-Y!

  34. a winner outta McDougal..

and XMen comes out on DVD tomorrow..

+ awesome commentary (sarcasm) and sheer luck

  35. JhallWally says:

Wow!!! Nice win. Didn’t look to good when Billz fell apart again. Tony Gwynn and the bullpen, stars of the game.
    Go Dodgers, let’s take two!!!

  36. So who’s left to pitch outta the pen after 6 where used..is Loney going to be the mystery pitcher today..??

    that would be sweet..!

  37. vl4eccjr says:

OK Now how long will the delay go on before they call the next one?

  38. A Fan-Base can dream-

In the best interest of bussiness and baseball, Ned Colleti has been released from his contract due to insubordinance and actions unbefitting of front office personel. When asked for comment, Frank stated, “..There came a point where we came to butt heads while trying to find a direction for this ball club. Differences where opined, and ultimately, his decision making was called into question.”

When asked for a rebuttal, Ned said, “..Ask Frank what I said, because these days, it seems as if I’m the one taking the blame for others shortcommings.”

In a related story, Stan Conte was also released due to futility and lack of results. Both Stan and Ned where seen boarding a flight towards Chicago, of which is rumored to be close to signing their future GM. When reached for comment, Cubs front office personel denied reports.

In a farewell address to the players and fans, both Ned and Stan thanked the fans for their years of adoration and support under turbulent times, and for judging him on his impeccable resume, his great signings and the structure and way that he left this team for the future GM of this team. When asked to speak before the team itself, both where denied, and a letter was sent to them by the players, with two pictures inside. One was a picture of the team mooning them, and the other one was of the team throwing up middle fingers.

No one from the team could comment.

  39. nedisajerk says:

Maybe we see Loney pitch today.

  40. vl4eccjr says:

Bad news for Colts fans. Looks like Peyton Manning is to undergo another surgery. He’ll be out for at least half the season. The rest of the AFC south must be happy with this news.

  41. koufax1963 says:

Ah the umpires will wait, …. and some tired dodgers will be on the field at the phone booth friday

  42. nedisajerk says:

Speaking of ump where is Hallion? He was suppose to be the 1st bases ump in game 1 but Rackley was there.

  43. Am I the only one that finds it even a little suspect that now that they need to open up some playing time for Sands that all of a sudden Dre’s knee is now to hurt to continue?

Now Donnie can continue to play Rivera, Gwynn (and by default) Loney.

    • JhallWally says:

My question is why didn’t Ethier get the knee taken care of last off season. He has stated that it was a problem last year as well.

      • It’ll be like Ned to to trade him away coming off knee surgery when his value’s at its lowest.

        • JhallWally says:

Yeah, that would be a Ned move. They’re much better off holding on to him now. Next year he should be healthy and he’ll be playing for a contract. If he is playing well in July next year, that would be the time to trade him. He should have taken care of the knee last off season. Regardless, unless he’s hitting 30 HR and driving in 100 runs, he’s not worth 10M or more per year. They better save the money and get Kemp signed. He is the future. Andre isn’t.

  44. Am I the only one too that finds it odd that they want Federshitz to “learn” the staff before he gets any playing time in? I don’t recall them babying any other catcher they’ve called up like that ever.
    .
Could it be that he sucks and Ned doesn’t want to be opened up to ridicule for trading away Trayvon? If they limit his playing time then they can blame it on “small sample size.”

  45. trublu4ever says:

it is pouring in DC…..why the hell are they making us stay there?!

  46. grizzy says:

Just home from work and I’m overjoyed to see Billingsley is holding up his end.
    *
Has Werth been injured this year? I thought he was way over paid for 85 rbi’s last year, and this year’s numbers are worse.

  47. selltheteam says:

Disclaimer: Outside the Dodgers does not embrace nor reject the use of archaic African American Vernacular English for the purposes of comedic commentary. Black English as derived from West African dialects with it’s regularization of present tense verb conjugation, no use of the linking verb ‘to be’, the completive verb aspect particle and other linguistic constructs is part of the rich tapestry of languages that have been incorporated into modern American English. It is what it is. Can you dig it?
