Who are these guys?

Yesterday, I left my house in Camarillo to head over to Oxnard where I get a better price on a smog check for my truck.  I flipped on AM 1450 KVEN, part of the Dodger Radio Network and recently changed from “The Boomer” baby boomer demographics programming to being part of the ESPN radio group.  I was just in time to hear the dulcet tones of Charlie Steiner describing the Braves three run rally in the second inning.

I got to Oxnard only to find that my usual place had recently changed from a “Test Only” to a test and repair station and could not test my truck until a month from now.  The proprietor recommended a couple of other places I could go to but by the time I got there, they were closed.  For some reason, Saviers Road in Oxnard is filled with Smog Check places and I was able to find one and negotiate a better price.

By the time I was finished and headed home, the score was 5-0 Atlanta.  I turned off the radio figuring that the Dodgers, who came to Atlanta winning nine of their last ten games, had run into a buzz saw of the number two team of the league.  I went home and tried to register my car online only to find that the smog certificate filed electronically from the shop to the DMV in Sacramento had not yet reached the registration web page.  Oh well, I will sort it out later.

I flipped on the TV and fired up my laptop computer to check on the latest OTD comments and was shocked that the Dodgers were AHEAD 8 to 5.  Could it be that the formerly anemic bats that the Dodgers displayed when playing better teams were suddenly energized by their recent success against the Rockies and Padres?

The Dodgers are literally a different team than they were three months ago.  PVLs like Raphael Furcal, Juan Uribe as well as a couple of stiffs named Thames and Gibbons are nowhere to be found.  Juan Rivera has been a pleasant surprise and a clutch hitter since he was cast off from the Blue Jays.  Aaron Miles continues to provide some nice at bats and the solid play of newcomers Justin Sellers and Dee Gordon have contributed to the Dodgers recent success.  Of course Matt Kemp’s career year performance and the resurgence of James Loney and Andre Ethier have rounded out the newly powerful Dodgers.

Let’s hope they can keep their winning ways.  EnchantedTheBeav thought that Blake Hawksworth’s older sister brought us good luck and wanted her back today.  What can I say?  I created this blog for the crazy bunch of regulars that have found a home here away from the scripted marketing hype of that other place.  You asked for her… you got her.  I guess you really like her great smile.

  1. We can already see who will be back and who won’t.

Barajas, Loney and Rivera will get a contract and out of them, the most likely to come back is Rivera. Loney will want his money, and Barajas will not take less than $1 mil to be a backup, unless he’s true to being a Dodger. Rivera has revived his career in Dodger blue and is still a very productive option at LF, if our rookies aren’t good enough for Ned, just like Trayvon Robinson wasn’t enough for him.

Broxton is as good as gone, and will make a cameo in the Phillies or Giants bullpen. The saying is, “if you can’t beat them, join them.”

Padilla and Garland and Uribe will be let go, or at the very least put on a mandatory guide to lose weight and condition. Well, shouldn’t we all be on some kind of plan of the like.

Blake is retiring by signing a 1 day contract with the Indians or Dodgers, and he will be missed.

Miles will be getting that 2 yr contract that Ned’s been wanting to give him

Carroll will leave and we’ll get nothing for him, all the while he’s been OK at best lately, not even playing regularly.

Besides that, I would like to introduce you to our 2012 Dodgers.

I’m just wondering who will replace the girl with the lovely smile when we finally lose a game 😉

  3. vl4eccjr says:

The young lady obviously has more ASSets than just a great smile going for her.
I believe that’s two starts in a row the boys have bailed out Billz. I’m loving the way the team a whole is contributing here lately. Carroll seems to be the only one not getting any RBIs as usual.
I know it was mentioned on the previous thread, but since Navarro left, this team just seems like it got a shot in the arm. With Uribe out of the picture for the rest of the season, I’m sure it has something to do with it also. The pressure seems to be off Kemp, and Ethier with the youths Sellers & Gordon providing some spark. Miles has been solid in all aspects. Gwynn’s sparkling defense, & speed. He’s improved with his hitting. Rivera has done well since coming aboard. My biggest surprise is Loney’s turnaround! Hansen deserves serious props since the previous hitting coach was kicked to the curb also.
I’m not asking for a miracle with the remaining games left, but if they pass the Giants in the NL west, it would make my year!!

Passing the Gnats would be great! I just read where they are going to try Mitchell behind the plate. Hmmm….Barajas or Ellis going to be gone?

  4. messagebear says:

Well yes, she has a nice smile too.
I have a feeling that some in our group have been admiring Andre for attributes other than his batting stance, but fair is fair.

Why is it that the oldtimers could pitch complete games of a doubleheader but today’s pitchers go six innings and it is considered a “quality start?”

      What….no Dre assets today?! 😉

“Dee obviously will play shortstop, for the most part. Is he ready? I don’t know. So far, he’s been successful enough. To me he’s holding his own. He’ll keep getting better, no doubt. He’ll get bigger and stronger. I compare to him (Omar) Vizquel in the beginning. It looked like you could almost knock the bat out of his hands. Some teams look at Dee like that. But he can hit. If we think he can play, at some point we have to let him struggle, unless it gets to the point where you see this is not good for him. He’s a talented kid, and he’ll have to make adjustments, take his lumps. Thats’ how you grow up.”

—manager Don Mattingly, when asked if Dee Gordon is the starting shortstop next season.

But, I guess for today at least, he’s on the platoon schedule, not starting against the LHP.

      • trublu4ever says:

I think Dee really needs to tighten up on defense..however, I think Sellers did a fine job at 2nd ysterday and, I wouldn’t mind seeing that duo starting next season.

  7. Mitchell shouldn’t even be on the 40 man roster let alone starting at third and batting 5th. He ain’t got it and he ain’t never gonna get it.

Whether they’ve got a lefty going or not, its a typical JoJo “reward” to sit a kid who just had three hits the night before.

  8. Hi Everybody
Yes, this has been a wonderful run for our guys. It was highly unexpected. I was worried about losing a hundred games not too long ago and here we are getting closer to .500. This would be great if they can keep this up until the end of the season.

  9. trublu4ever says:

    Nate….the great!

Damn Nate! Can’t throw them right down the middle like that!

  13. nedisajerk says:

Are announces was talking about 2nd baseman hitting 30+ HR’s when Uggla was up and mention Kent and Sandberg they need to shut it.

  14. vl4eccjr says:

Sheeit! Looking at the gameday Nate’s getting squeezed big time!

  15. trublu4ever says:

  16. nedisajerk says:

I think Navarro took all of the defective bat with him.

  17. trublu4ever says:

    WTF……Donnie…a bunt was in order!

  19. trublu4ever says:

    This umpire really sucks!

  20. trublu4ever says:

    Triple f*ck!

  21. trublu4ever says:

I thought Lyons & Collins were boring but, the Braves’ announcers beat them out! Snoozeville, USA!!!

  22. JhallWally says:

    Darn nice job by Eovaldi!!

  23. 32and53fan says:

No wonder I hate Eric Collins… “The unusual and very difficult 3-6 doubleplay” Geez, the ball was hit right to the bag at 1B. All Loney had to do was step on the base and throw to 2B. The SS was right there and had plenty of time to tag the runner.

I pray that Collins is not named Vin Scully’s replacement when the time comes.

  24. As hot as Loney’s been and with Gordon on at first, why in the hell have Loney bunt?

    Playing Donnie Dumbball again.

  25. trublu4ever says:

    Holy shit…how pathetic was that?!

  26. vl4eccjr says:

    Jansen’s dialed in!

  27. trublu4ever says:
