Dodgers Need to be Brave to Play Atlanta

The Dodgers are on a roll.  They have won nine of their last ten games and three consecutive series.  By winning the make up game yesterday in Pittsburgh, they also took that series by winning three of the four games dating back to May 9 when the series began.  The teams they beat lately have been the weaker teams.  All that will change when they roll into Atlanta, Georgia today.

The Braves, who have gone 8-3 in their last 11 games, are 8 1/2 games ahead in the NL Wild Card standings.  Only Philadelphia has a better win-loss percentage than Atlanta in the National League.  The Braves have five of the top 22 hitters in the National League since the All-Star break.  They also lead the NL in homers with 56 since the break.

The Dodgers will need to play their best to win in Atlanta.

Today, Chad Billingsley (10-10, 4.08) goes against RHP Brandon Beachy (7-2, 3.31) starting at 4:35 this afternoon.

This Day in Dodgers History

September 2, 1993 – Drawing a crowd 47,699 for their 62nd home game, the Rockies surpass the 1982 Dodgers by drawing of 3,617,863 fans to Mile High Stadium in Denver setting a new National League single-season attendance record. The expansion club will also break the 1992 Blue Jays major league mark of 4,028,318 before the season is over.

Hmmm…. I wonder if the Chinese are behind him too?

  2. Here’s to finishing off the season strong..

btw, i know its a stretch, but at this pace, if the d’backs and g’nats go .500 vs. each other, and then the dodgers sweep the g’nats and d’backs, we could still win this division. granted, the padres and rockies and pirates would have to beat the d’backs and the same for the g’nats, but in the 6 games left vs. the g’nats, we can take over 2nd and still catch up to the d’backs..

i know its almost useless to even consider this miracle, but this team has a completely different attitude from when they first started the season..

    C’est La Vie Dodgers!!!!

    Beat the Braves!!!!

  3. trublu4ever says:

I’m hoping it doesn’t start out “Beachy keen” for the Braves 😉

  4. trublu4ever says:

Now they are saying Uribe may need surgery. If it should be career ending, would we still owe him money? If, not….PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

  5. selltheteam says:

“…Uribe receiving a second opinion before undergoing a procedure to repair a sports hernia.”

“He would have a normal off-season,” Conte said.,0,5961454.story

  6. selltheteam says:

Uribe turning out to be almost as much of a wiener as Andruw.

  7. selltheteam says:

“The Dodgers will not call up any other players until their Minor League seasons are over. Albuquerque’s season will end Monday. Mattingly said “at least another five or six” players will be added to the active roster.”

Looking forward to seeing: the Sandman, DeJesus, Tray-Rob – whoops!

    • trublu4ever says:

They should subtract Eugenio4ever….release him, please!

      • selltheteam says:

        Just how bad is Eugenio4ever?

        This year, he’s 0-30.

His last hit was on May 18, 2010 in the 12th inning. After that hit, he has gone 0-39.

Prior to that hit, he had a 0-19 streak going back to April 20, 2010. After his next-to-last hit in the MLB in the 3rd inning of April 20, 2010, he has gone 1-59. That’s a batting average of .017

But when you add in the torrid early April 2010 to his 1-59 streak, he is a combined 9-85 for 2010 and 2011. That’s a whopping .106 BA that goes with an outstanding OBP of .183, an astounding SLG of .200, for a mind-blowing OPS of .383 !

Why does TruMom hate him so?

  10. For my brother Wally. Johnny Cash, I Walk The Line:

Since July twelve his hitting has flatlined
And now his yap flies open all the time
Sometimes he finds himself sat on the pine
    Because Dre whines
    JHall’s not fine

He finds that Ned and Don don’t have a clue
One day his knee’s bad, then the next its true
Don’t think he’ll stay next year in Dodger Blue
    Because he whines
    JHall’s not fine

Oh yes his numbers we have seen decline
And for nine plus mil it is a crime
And though his buttocks may still be sublime
    Because he whines
    JHall’s not fine

His pinky keeps from giving things a ride
Out of the limelight’s somewhere he can’t hide
And though he may be swallowing some pride
    Because he whines
    JHall’s not fine
Since July twelve his hitting has flatlined
And now his yap flies open all the time
Sometimes he finds himself sat on the pine
    Because Dre whines
    JHall’s not fine

I did see Matty on Intentional Talk today and, he was great! His smile is great and, his buttocks are pretty awesome too! 🙂

  12. JhallWally says:

Well, I hope we get the good Chad tonight. Should be interesting to see how we play against a really good playoff team. Magic win number to .500 is just 15. I think we can do it.

  13. Billz is already in brain fart mode.

You’d think that since he pitches better with Ellis as his catcher that we might see, you know, Ellis.

He is getting squeezed at the plate though.

  14. JhallWally says:

Rats!! 93, humid, and these guys are making Billz throw alot of pitches.

  15. Someday someone in the organization might want to teach Billz how to pitch.

  16. trublu4ever says:

Just wondering if Billz thinks he gets paid for every run he gives up?!

  17. trublu4ever says:

    Gordon just f*cked up again!

  18. Pretty obvious these guys can’t compete against a real team.

I’ll check in later to see how bad it got.

  19. Great play by Matt and Barajas!

  20. vl4eccjr says:

I still say that weird looking pic on the gameday scoreboard is a player sliding into a base. . .

  21. vl4eccjr says:

Good AB from Kemp there. Goes to show how far he’s come at the plate. Those low, down & away sliders used to eat him up. Not so much any more.
WTG! Must be the Juan show tonight!!

  22. JhallWally says:

Ethier with a duck on the pond. Runner at 3rd, 1 out.

  23. vl4eccjr says:

Sheeeeit! It looked like something was cooking with that double steal!!

  24. JhallWally says:

Rats!! Ethier and Miles are killing us tonight with RISP.

  25. vl4eccjr says:

Nice job Kuo! First time his ERA’s been south of 10 in quite a while.

  26. vl4eccjr says:

    Dre delivers!!!
    What an inning indeed!

  27. JhallWally says:

    Nice job James and Andre!!!

  28. vl4eccjr says:

WOW! Elbert got bailed out from Sellers there!

  29. 32and53fan says:

Wow, I went to get my truck smogged and we were down 5-0. Now that I got home and completed my registration online (the electronically submitted smog certificate apparently did not get into the DMV database at light speed, so it is technically incomplete) the Dodgers are winning 8-5. What has got into these guys?

  30. Damn. I see I need to go out to dinner more often. The boys are showing a little moxy tonight.

  31. Dodgers really wanna play late season catch up..they have been on fire lately, and look loose and happy when playing..

Maybe the news that Uribe is done and out for the season made them all breathe a sigh of relief..

  32. selltheteam says:

    Come on, Javy, bear down!

  33. trublu4ever says:

    Pepto time!

  34. This is why I don’t like Javy in this roll. He just doesn’t have closer stuff.

  35. trublu4ever says:

Woo-hoo! Nice come from behind victory!

  36. selltheteam says:

I lost count! Is that ten out of eleven?

  37. scooby doobie doo where are you??
we need a win tonight now
scooby doobie doo i need you
    to beat those halloweeners

  38. JhallWally says:

Whew!!! Nice win!!! Only 3 games below .500 with 25 to play.

    Go D’Backs!!!!!

  39. lbirken says:

Hopefully Javy will work into this role over time and fortunately the Dodgers have given him a bit of a cushion the past couple of games. I still don’t like the fielder’s indifference with only a two run lead but this seems to be the way the game is played these days. No matter, a win is a win, especially coming from behind on the road against a quality team.

      • lbirken says:

We could look at it this way: Javy is getting a lot of work in games that may not mean a lot with regard to the standings but they mean a lot to his development. He does not have the pressure of a pennant race but is gaining confidence so if that time does come for him, he will be ready. With Broxton most likely done as a Dodger, hopefully the Dodgers have found his replacement. Not like the old days when a former starter becomes the lights out closer.

  40. I was wrong. They could compete with a good team.

You know who’s brought a spark to this team is Sellers. Kinda reminds me of Sax that way.

  41. Hawksworth’s sister brought us luck. I say we have her back again tomorrow. 🙂

  42. lbirken says:

You guys are too much. Have a great rest of the evening and good night.

  43. Think that’s going to do it for me tonight gang. Catch you all again tomorrow.

  44. Nellyjune says:

WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!! Great way to start a 3-Day weekend!!
